Migration interupted at the 95% point, 750GB aleady moved from the TM
I was trying to build a new system disk on an external drive using the Time Machine files. After 9 or so hours it just about reached the end with minutes left to go when the power failed. I forgot to plug the drive into the UPS, so it went down with the power. It is very difficult for me to take the computer out of service while starting again from scratch. Is there any way to use the Migration Assistant as a background task, continuing to take files from the Time Machine and putting them on the external drive... basically continuing where it left off. I tried running the Migration Assistant, but it ignored the files that had already been moved, discovered there wasn't enough free space left to start over again, so quit. I tried booting to the installation disk in hopes it would look at the target drive and determine which file were already moved, but that didn't work either. Any other options?
Will the Mac boot from the external HD? If it will, and assuming you know at what point it failed (ie., what you have and what you don't), you might be able to restore the remainder via the normal TM interface. You will, of course, have to restore to an "alternate location" (see #16 in the Frequently Asked Questions *User Tip,* or at the top of the Time Machine forum).
If all your user accounts are there, it might work. What I'm not sure of is how and when MA sets permissions and other "housekeeping" type things.
If the Mac won't boot from the external HD, then you probably have no choice but to erase it and start over.

Yes, my PowerBook G4 is still trucking along. It is running OSX 10.4.11, but I just bought a new iMac that is running Mountain Lion. I just tried to use Migration Assistant. It told me to update Migration Assistant on the G4, but I can't find an update for anything earlier than 10.5. Get info then check permissions then add your curent user name (it was probably different on old Mac) and give your username full read/write permissions.

I use Windows Vista and Microsoft Outlook. After migrating to iCloud, the calendar of iCloud tranferred only part of my past Calendar items to the folder iCloud Calendar in my Outlook. How can I transfer all the entries? In iCloud's site all are there.
If the calendar is on iCoud.com, all you would need to do to get it on your phone is go to Settings>iCloud on your phone, sign into your iCoud account and turn Calendars on. The iCloud calendars will then download to your phone.

I have just used migration assistant to import photos (using an ethernet cable) from my PC. It has worked but they have gone into a new user on my MacPro. How can I merge them into the one user account.
How many pictures (or how many bytes) are we talking? Now that the pictures are imported one way to cross users is to use a removable drive (although large volumes of files preclude this).
The other is to login as the user where the pictures are, then copy them into the public drop box of the user where you want the picture.
The arrow is showing (in ths example) copy files from the Pictures folder for my user to the guest user accounts public dropbox. When you do this you may have to authenticate and you won't be able to see the results of the copy until you log in as the other user.
All users are in the folder "/Users/" -
I'm trying to use Migration Assistant to update my new Mountain Lion iMac from an external USB hard disk drive. I told it to look for a drive, yet it is constantly saying that it is "looking for other computers". It doesn't find the external drive ... it just endlessly looks for other computers. Why is it looking for other computers at all, when I told it not to?
Wow, the wording in Migration Assistant is misleading. I've never used it before, so I thought I would try to copy my files from the external drive ... my old iMac died, but I managed to get everything I need off it, using the 'cp' command in single-user mode. So I guess I'll just have to manually copy the files from the external drive to the new machine. I was hoping that Migration Assistant might help somehow, but obviously not.

I am in the middle of a inter forest migration and have created the target domain (TargetDomain.local) 2008R2 and Source Domain (SourceDomain.Local) 2008R2 with a two way trust. I have installed ADMT 3.2 on a server in the Target Domain. I am able to migrate
users form the source domain to the target domain. I have copied the OU Structure from the source domain to the target domain. The issue I am currently facing is that I would like to find a way to migrate all users from the source domain to the target domain
and the users migrate to the same OU as the source. I have looked at the include file option but cannot find a way of specifying the source and target OU's.

You need to create the same OU on target domain, then do the user account migration.
On Organizational Unit Selection page, select Browse and select target OU, then click OK.

Will migration assistant change the default display settings on my new Mac?
I just set up a new iMac and used Migration Assistant to load from my Time Machine. But now the display looks muted and not as bright. Would Migration Assistant change the default display settings on my new Mac?
Migration Assistant may not be the cause. But you should reset the NVRAM and see it that fixes the issue.
Shut down your Mac.
Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command (⌘), Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
Turn on the computer.
Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys before the gray screen appears.
Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the third time.
Release the keys. -

had a lot of trouble with this too. I had tried everything, from the internet time zone changing, restarting computers, physical time zone changing, firewalls, all that, and nothing worked.
but i just tried this and it worked.
1. in iTunes, go to Store, then go to authorize computer
2. sign in with your AppleID, and authorize your computer to purchase iTunes stuff.
that's it.
I scoured the internet and found nothing that said that had that as a solution.

on my windows XP pro PC i opened windows migration assistant and the first message is: "Cannot start Outlook Express. The application can not initialize the storage. The computer doesn't have enough memory or your disk is full. (0x80007114)"
On my windows PC outlook express is NOT running and as far as i know, NOT installed.
How do I install Outlook Express??
I want to use my new Imac.....Disk storage issues frequently happen if the hard disc is over 85% full. Make sure your trash can is emptied after backing up any files you want to keep elsewhere.

Just got an iMac. I am trying to use Migration Assistant. The Mac side seems to be doing it's job, but my PC just keeps "Waiting for the Mac to connect." For over an hour.
Probably a PC issue, you can try calling AppleCare, you are covered for 90 days from the date of purchase and can find the phone number in the owners manual. Also please look over:

We are preparing to upgrade from SAP 4.6c to SAP 6.0 (ERP2005), but we dont´t have so cleare how to migrate to the new ledger (from table GLT0 to FAGLFLEXT).
We made some esenaries and these ones are:
1. A company code has been executing a technical upgrade to 4.6c to 6.00 this process will be finished on September 30. His commercial period is January 1 to December 31 of 2007; the final closure of fiscal year will accomplished on January 15, 2008. Can I activate New G/L on date October 1, 2008?
This costumer doesnt have special ledger and parallel ledgers.
2. We made an exercise an activated New G/L inside an upgrade process, the balance of the already tabulated are registered in the classic ledger (GLT0) and the new operations are registered in the new ledger (FAGLFLEXT). <b>How can I translate the balance (migrate data to the structure) to the GLT0 to FAGLFLEXT?</b>

ArielIt could depend on whether you want to use Document splitting or not.
If you intend to use <b>document splitting</b> in the new General Ledger, activate the function for validating the document splitting in your productive system before the migration date. This means that you should upgrade to ECC 6.0 in one fiscal year, activate document split validation before the end of that fiscal year and <b>migrate to the new General Ledger in the next fiscal year.</b>
If you <b>do not plan to use document splitting</b> in the new General Ledger, you can upgrade to ECC5.0 or ECC6.0 and <b>migrate to the new General Ledger in the same fiscal year.</b> -

When you use Migration Assitant it creates another user account and puts your files there. Please log out of your normal account and log into the new account. Had you use Setup Assistant when it asked if you were migrating that would not have occured. You have a couple of options, combine the two accounts (not recommended) or start over, use Setup Assistant and have everything in one user account.
