Migration of BW to HANA Data Base

Hi Experts,
For Migration of BW 7.3 SP7 to HANA Data Base , I would like to know procurement details for HANA data base.
suppose current Database used by BW in production is 468GB (51%), assuming for HANA database (ROW and column store) it may require say 350GB space.
In that case , how many CPUs will be required??
as per details i believe , production system can be only on 1 HANA DB, and for Dev. and Quality we may require separate HANA BOX.
Also, w.r.t. Master and slave, at least 2 BOX are necessary (since scale out option is possible).
So does that mean , total 4 BOX are required?? or 2 HANA BOX are enough, may be of T-shirt size 'M' 4 CPU sockets.
Please correct me if this is not the case..
Thanks and Regards,
Amit.

Hi Victor,

  • Migrate existing data base to oracle 10g and cluster it

    hi
we are currently using sql server 2000 and due to some servere dead locks in the application and due to some load issues we wanted to migrate it to oracle 10g.
At the same time we wanted to have clustered environment in the same server
    That is windows server.
Can any one suggest how migration can be done..easily ie..by oracle migration work bench or what...
At the same time can any one suggest how to cluster data base in windows server
    Thanks
    vkumar

This is re-engineering from one database platform to another.
You will have to take into consideration several aspects of your application, from SQL comptability to the application performance (SQL) in the Oracle environment.
There is no magic to this puzzle, the amount of task involved in moving from one database to another depends on complixity of the application and how many database operations will have to be changed. I would suggest /recommend that you should start with a POC on a specific module /area (probably the most complex) of your application and this should give you some idea in the efforts of doing so.

  • SAP R/3 TO DATA BASE?

My scenario is to send the data from SAP R/3 TO oracle data base which updates the data\chages in oracle data base?
    Explain me this scenario?
    Thank you

    Hi,
When you need to load information into an SAP R/3 system from a legacy system, a set of tools that falls into the Data Transfer catagory are used. Between 3.1H and 4.6C there were major changes in this area of SAP. The old Data Transfer Workbench can be used, or you can combine the new tools with programs that you write to effectively manage a data transfer project. SAP offers The Data Transfer Guidebook www.saplabs.com/dx to help guide users through the process.
Moreover,  the new functions use BAPI interfaces and reduce the time and cost of mass data transfer . The
DXWB also integrates batch input and direct input based on the business object's
load programs. The DXWB is a one-stop-shop for all data transfers and contains
the Data Mapping and Conversion (DMC) tool and integrates with the Legacy
    System Migration Workbench data mappings.
The DXWB provides central functions to facilitate required DX tasks:
. Organize DX-related work (project organization)
. Access to DX-related documentation on specific topic
. Understand the SAP target structures
. Edit data file for test purposes
. Map legacy structures to SAP target structure by using DMC
. Run the required ABAP-based DX programs
. Log technical and application errors
. Correct erroneous records before reprocessing

  • Infected files found in mail data base.

    Greetings to everyone,
A few days ago, ClamXav detected infected files when scanning my mail data base. One of wich was a phishing kind of mesage, and the other was defined as a trojan. It turns out that they were mesages from 2009, by the time when i had a G5 Power PC. I've never open theme, nor clicked the links attached. Now i have a new Mac, but those mails are still in the data base; i think they migrated from my imap account. Any way, i red the ClamXav developper's page and he says that its not advisable to trash out or put this kind of files into quarantine. it bothers me that they still remain in my user's library.
Can someone give me a tip on how to cope with this issue?
    Thank you!

I wish you had asked this question in the ClamXav Forum where I would have found it earlier.
Unless the infection name contains "OSX" it's almost certainly not anything that can impact your OS. But there still could be a couple of issues.
If the infection name contained the word "Heuristics" then it means that phishing message was not positively identified as a phishing attempt, but something about the way it was formatted looked suspicious enough to warn you about it. All such messages should be read before you delete them, as they could well be a false alarm.
The other question I would have asked you is what e-mail client you were using on your G5. Some e-mail clients (including Apple Mail in the early days) stored all their e-mail in one large database. If you were to delete the infected file, you would lose all your e-mail, so an alternate procedure is necessary to find and delete the message.

  • Upgrade data base from sql server 2005 to sql server2008

    Hi guys,
What is the best way for upgrade my SQL Server 2005 data base to SQL 2008?

It depends on how you want migrate, in-place or side-by-side?
In-place: Run a backup of all databases and then install the new SQL Server version
Side-by-side: Install the new SQL Server, backup all database of old SQL Server and restore them on the new one. Then copy all logins from old to new server.

  • Data base change

    Hi all,
We are changing data base from Mainframs to  Solaries Oracle. Shall we face any problems while migrating date from Mainframs to Solaries. Could you please give which type of problems we will face.
    Regards

A heterogeneous migration must be done by a certified migration consultant on-site (http://service.sap.com/osdbmigration).
Apart from that follow the guides (http://service.sap.com/systemcopy) and use the latest tools (R3load, R3ldctl, libdb*.so)

  • Enforcing integrity using oracle specific data base commands .v. using fron

Full subject : Enforcing integrity using oracle specific data base commands .v. using front end.
It ought to be generally accepted that it is better to enforce integrity directly in the data base using constraints, dependencies, triggers etc rather than leaving it to specific front end programmes.
In my view, the chief advantages - of enforcing integrity directly in the data base - are:
    (1) No process can violate the integrity.
    (2) Being server centric, these commands run on the server and so can be easily sized in one place.
    (3) One time data migration (imports) into the system using Oracle tools or SQL commands would also need to conform to the integrity constraints. Thus an implementor would be assured that the basic data is alright.
I am faced with a situation where we are about to implement a new Oracle based package. During data migration, when we discovered that there are no integrity constraints built into the target data base, the package vendor asserted that it is not necessary to build in integrity into the database. This seems to be an extreme and risky view.
Further, it is argued by the package vendor that putting constraints directly in the data base would significantly increase the needed resources (RAM) on the server. In my view, this increase is trivial and anyway, hardware costs are crashing day by day.
In the absence of integrity checks in the data base, it seems to me that every program would have to extra zero value work to ensure integrity of the end user data. It will still never be complete.
I would like to know the pros and cons of implementing without integrity constraints.
    OK.

OK.It's a shame you seem to be so far into the process and committed to this vendor. I once had a vendor tell us his product would run on Oracle but they recommended MS SQL Server because "oracle can't handle more than 5 concurrent sessions." I made sure that vendor didn't make the short list.

  • Auto Reconnection of Oracle Tuxedo 11.1.1.2.0, 64-bit to Oracle Data Base

    Hi Dear,
We have Recently Migrated to Oracle Tuxedo 11.1.1.2.0 Running on RHEL 6.3 and connecting Oracle Data Base 11.0.2.0.
We are informed by the Oracle Tuxedo Support that This tuxedo version Automatically re-connects to the oracle database once the Data base is rebooted.
Because of the above impression we removed all our reconnection code from our applications.
But unfortunately the servers are not automatically re-connecting to Oracle DB.
Can you Please let us know, whether really this version automatically re-connects to Oracle DB??
If Yes, How?? I mean is there any specific configuration to be done on Tuxedo??
    Thanks in Advance .... :)
    Rgds,
    Plaban

    Plaban,
There are two ways to manage connections to Oracle Database (or any other XA compliant resource manager) with Tuxedo.
One way is to use the XA interface. This involves spcifying information about the resource manager in $TUXDIR/udataobj/RM, building TMS servers linked with the resource manager, using the "-r rmname" option on buildserver, and specifying the TMS server names and an OPENINFO string *GROUPS section of the UBBCONFIG file.  When this option is chosen, application servers will not contain any logic to connect to or disconnect from the database and appllication servers will not contain any SQL statments to COMMIT WORK or ROLLBACK WORK.  All of this will be managed by Tuxedo.  If an XA call indicates that the resource manager is unavailable, Tuxedo will try to reconnect to the resource manager when subsequent tranasctional requests are received.  (Note that if a server in an XA-associated group receives requests outside of transaction mode, then Tuxedo will not issue any XA calls and will not know if there are any problems with the database.  You can specify AUTOTRAN=Y if you want to ensure that requests to certain services are processed in transaction mode.)
In releases prior to Tuxedo 11.1.1.2.0, it was necessary to set the TUXWA4ORACLE environment variable for this automatic reconnection to work when using Tuxedo with Oracle Database. (This was due to different interpretations of the XA standard back when BEA and Oracle were separate companies.) Starting with Release 11.1.1.2.0, it is no longer necessary to set TUXWA4ORACLE when using Oracle Database with Tuxedo.
There are also special considerations when using Tuxedo with Oracle Real Application Clusters, as described at http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E35855_01/tuxedo/docs12c/ads/adorac.html .
The other way to use Tuxedo with a database is to not use the XA interface and to manage connections to the database in the application. If this is done, then the application needs code to connect, disconnect, and reconnect to the database and to commit or rollback work where appropriate. If the XA interface is not used, then Tuxedo will not have any involvement with connection or reconnection to the database.

    Ed

    Hi,
What are you trying to achieve with a single WITH clause and no SELECT?
Please see this from the documentation if you want to use it properly :
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/server.102/b14200/statements_10002.htm#i2077142
Apart from its true purpose of subquery factoring, the WITH clause is often use here and there to simulate a table content, but you'll always need a SELECT.
Maybe that's what you were trying to do?
As for your question, starting with release 10.2, Oracle provides XMLTable to shred XML documents into relational structures.
    For example,
    with t as (
    select xmltype('<Message-Header>
    <Message-Id>1234</Message-Id>
    <Sender-Company-ID>4569</Sender-Company-ID>
    <Sender-Company-Name>abc company</Sender-Company-Name>
    <Sender-User-ID>AA</Sender-User-ID>
    <Recv-Company-ID>050</Recv-Company-ID>
    <Recv-Company-Name>XYZ pvt.ltd</Recv-Company-Name>
    <Creation-Time>20101019 15:59:39</Creation-Time>
    </Message-Header>') as xml from dual
    select x.*
    from t,
         XMLTable(
          '/Message-Header'
          passing t.xml
          columns
            message_id          number       path 'Message-Id',
            sender_company_id   number       path 'Sender-Company-ID',
            sender_company_name varchar2(30) path 'Sender-Company-Name',
            sender_user_id      varchar2(30) path 'Sender-User-ID',
            recv_company_id     varchar2(30) path 'Recv-Company-ID',
            recv_company_name   varchar2(30) path 'Recv-Company-Name',
            creation_time       varchar2(30) path 'Creation-Time'
         ) x
;If you're working in PL/SQL, and the XML resides in a variable, you can directly do (with necessary datatype conversion in the SELECT) :
    insert into your_table ( <your_columns_list> )
    select <your_columns_list>
    from XMLTable(
          '/Message-Header'
          passing your_xml_var
          columns
            message_id          number       path 'Message-Id',
            sender_company_id   number       path 'Sender-Company-ID',
            sender_company_name varchar2(30) path 'Sender-Company-Name',
            sender_user_id      varchar2(30) path 'Sender-User-ID',
            recv_company_id     varchar2(30) path 'Recv-Company-ID',
            recv_company_name   varchar2(30) path 'Recv-Company-Name',
            creation_time       varchar2(30) path 'Creation-Time'
