Migration of Htmldb 1.6 to Apex 3.2

Hi All
I am a new user to Apex ,I wanted to migrate our one applicatioin which is running on HTML db 1.6 to Apex 3.2
Please help to know the steps, tutorial which can be used to complete the same
Regards
Manish

Mark,

After the import into APEX 3.2, I noticed that none of my users from HTMLDB 1.6 were created in APEX 3.2, (perhaps the export from HTMLDB 1.6 does not by default include users). I found that Users, and User Groups can be exported from HTMLDB 1.6 (under Export/Import, Select Export, select Workspace button), which I have done.

Apex users are a part of the application workspace. And if you login as the apex_admin and do a workspace export, you will see the insert scripts for creating the users.

Oracle flows engine schema APEX_030200?

You are right.. Oracle Application Express is installed in the FLOWS_030100 schema.

  • Migrating from htmldb 1.5 to apex 2.2.1

    Hi All,
We are in the process to migrate our environments (a total of 8) to the latest version of Apex (htmldb).
In order to do that we are looking for the following documentation:
    1) Bugs solved for version 1.5 in the new releases.
    2) New features available that we have to be aware in order to evaluate/use them.
    3) Differences in the way we have to work in v2.2.1 comparing it to v1.5. We have to train around 25 developers in the new version in order to not lose productivity.
We also are planning to migrate to the Oracle Modern Look and Feel. Is this theme included in any of the new versions of Apex?
Any suggestion to do our migration smoothly will be appreciate.
    Regards
    Harvey

    Harvey,
As a start, you should gather and read the Release Notes and Installation documentation for version 1.6, version 2.0, and version 2.2.
You're not going to find a comprehensive bug list that goes back to 1.5.

  • Htmldb application export to ApEx

    Hi
We are going to upgrade our htmldb 1.6 to Application Express 3.0. Since apex will be running in a new machine we have to import htmldb export file to our new apex environment. The question is, can it be done?
    Best wishes
    Kristin

    Hi Kristin,
    Yes sure...no problem at all.
Your APEX administrator can export the workspaces (if it's important for you to maintain the same workspace information, such as cookie users etc), also you can use the APEX interface to export your individual applications, or if you have a lot of applications you can use the APEXExport command to automate the task for you.
You can use the usual DB tools to export your schema and data, such as exp/imp, or my personal favorite datapump (if you've never used datapump, it rocks for migrating data between servers).
I wrote a blog post about APEXExport a while ago, which you might find useful -

  • Migrating Access DB to Oracle Hosted APEX environment

I was wondering if there was a way to migrate an Access DB to the Oracle Hosted APEX environment using the Oracle Migration Workbench? You have to specify the location of the DB and schema and I don't know this information since the DB location is on the Oracle Hosted site. I would like to evaluate the migration functionality of the APEX tool without having to download it locally along with Oracle 10G. Is there a way to do this using the Hosted website?
    Thanks!

The quick answer to this is no.
However, there are some services (http://www.appshosting.com) which do offer that type of access at no charge.
    Thanks,

  • Upgrade HTMLDB 1.6 to APEX 3.0 - what do I need to do?

We're using HTMBDB version 1.6 - is the upgrade to Apex 3.0 straightforward (can someone point me to where I can find documentation for how to do this)? Do we have to upgrade to an intermediary version, or can we go straight to 3.0? Are there any known issues with applications that have moved to 3.0 that I need to look out for?
    Thanks.

Just install ApEx 3.0 and your HTMLDB will be automatically updated.

  • Upgrade htmldb 2.0 to apex 3.0

I have the database where originally was installed htmldb 1.6 and after successfully upgrade to 2.0. After I was trying upgrade to 2.2.1, the upgrade was successfully, but all application were messed up, ever uninstall didn't help. I did import htmldb schemas from export dump file, before started installation of Apex 2...2.1.
This time I did export/import htmldb schemas and my schemas to another test database, Run installation Apex 3.0. It has a lot of errors in the table FLOWS_030000.WWV_FLOW_UPGRADE_PROGRESS, It is actually 577 records in this table. I was testing applications, they looks okay.
Do you think I should go and install Apex 3.0 in my main database?
Can I experience later some problems?
    Thanks MB

    Mary,
It is difficult for me to understand the whole situation from your description. Let us go one statement at a time:
I have the database where originally was installed htmldb 1.6 and after successfully upgrade to 2.0.
So this statement, or situation, is not related to the current situation, is that right? All was well with your 2.0 instance?
After I was trying upgrade to 2.2.1, the upgrade was successfully, but all application were messed up, ever uninstall didn't help.
I have no idea what you mean.
I did import htmldb schemas from export dump file, before started installation of Apex 2...2.1.
I don't understand. You imported which schemas that you got from where? And why?
This time I did export/import htmldb schemas and my schemas to another test database, Run installation Apex 3.0.
Export/import of the Application Express schemas is not like installing the product. SYS grants will be missing.
You need to refine the process until there are no errors.

  • Migrate Oracle Forms 4.5 to APEX

    Hi Gurus,
We are in the process of migrating Oracle Forms 4.5 to Oracle APEX 3.2.1. In order to use the Forms to XML conversion tool, they say the Form version should be at least 6i.
I would be more grateful if somebody can get me Forms 4.5 to 6 or 9 migration guide and if possible some examples, so that I can proceed with this migration.
Any help on this would be very much appreciated.
    Thanks and Regards,

Oracle supports there tools because there are often needs to move technologies. What made Forms the right choice 10 years ago may not mean it is the right choice now. Hence, it might make sense to switch. Any tool which can take you some of the way can be a help. However, we also have to be realistic on what these tools can do.
If you are aware that a tool takes you to a solution which is less than optimal than if you had designed it from scratch but its good enough for you then fine. If thats what you want and the tool does it for you then go for it.
My experience, and I'm fortunate to have worked with hundreds of Forms customers/projects is that the hype/excitement sometimes has to be balanced with some practical real world experience.
Even moving PL/SQL from Forms into the database is a difficult task and thats the same language.

  • Migrating Forms with User-Info to Apex

    Hi,
i am using forms with CLIENTINFO-Bean (javabean running in forms9), to save who (OS-Username, e.g. windows user), where (workstation-name and ip-address) modified records.
I wonder if its possible to get similar functionality within apex? I assume this cannot be achived with javascript - just with a java app?
any help would be appreciated. i would really like to migrate this app to apex...
    kind regards
    Günther

    Hello Günther,
If relevant you could dive into [NTLM Aiuthentication|http://jastraub.blogspot.com/2008/03/ntlm-http-authentication-and.html].
APEX is a browser app and can even run on a mobile phone, and there is no os-user on an iPhone I guess.
In a IE environment you can get the username using an ActiveX object, but a user has to accept running such an object...
You could also go for an SSO / LDAP solution so your :APP_USER = OS Login.
I'm afraid it won't get better than that....

  • Migration from Oracle Forms to Oracle Apex 3.2

Hi I am learning Apex, I mainly work in Oracle developer. I have converted one Oracle form into Oracle Apex. the migrated Form appears on the screen, works, but not as I like it to be. All the triggers are migrated into Apex but they don't work as they did in Oracle Form. I cant make the form work as it should be. please help.

Triggers in forms will NOT work EXACTLY like they do in Forms, that is the nature of the beast.. APEX runs under a browser and you are running with html events to trap on..
Suggestion, the Forms conversion tools converts only so much, you will have to do some work to get what you want. Also, I would suggest re-evaluating your application, since it was probably a client server based application, moving it to the web will involve some re-engineering..

  • Migration from HTMLDB version 1.4 to 1.6

I would like to find out if its possible to upgrade HTMLDB version 1.4 to 1.6.
Can you send me more information about this please and my email address is [email protected]
    thanks Peter

    Peter,
You should export your workspace, applications, images, css, etc., from your 1.4 installation to files. Then install 1.6 and the 1.6.1 patch. Then import/install the workspace, all applications, images, css, etc., from the files you saved into the new HTML DB instance.

  • Upgrade from HTMLDB 1.6 to Apex 2.2.1 -- Steps

    Hi,
Does anyone know where I can download the Install software to run on HP-UX to upgrade to newer version? ...
I tried looking in the otn download center, all I get is a command line install/upgrade not the Oracle Universal Install.
If you know please include the URL...
    Thanx
    Vijay.

    Hello Vijay,
To upgrade your HTMLDB you need to run the new version installation. The installation script will identify the existing version and will upgrade it. You run the installation script using sql-plus, and not a universal installer. You should download the distribution file, unzip it, and read the installation manual. It will give you a clear view on the process.

  • Problems with saving after Migration on ApEx 2.2

    Hi,
we migrated from HTMLDB 2.0 to ApEx 2.2.
    Now our end-users have problems.
They want to save their changes and after pressing the change button an empty page appears.
So they go back with the internet explorer back-button and press the save button again. Now the changes are saved in the database.
Does anybody have the same problem?
Is there a solution to fix this problem?
    Thank you in advance
    Ulrike

Yes thank you very much. This is the solution.
But it's a pitty that we have to change the CSV endcoding option for all our applications after migration manually.
    Kind regards Ulrike

  • Proting HTMLDB 1.6 application  to Apex 3.2 on a new machine

    Hi,
I have an application that is running on htmldb 1.6 .
We want to port this to apex 3.2 running on a new hardware.
Which would be the best approach here?
    I have exported/imported workspace successfully.
But what about the rest of the application?
Note that we wish to leave htmldb 1.6 installation on the old machine.
    Thanks in advance

    Here is the solution.
I have managed to migrate the application from HTMLDB 1.6.1 to any higher version (e.g. Apex 3.2 or Apex 4.0) just by running the installation of the respective version.
The problem is that I had first installed htmldb 1.6.1 in the new machine that had Apex 3.2 preinstalled (I guess it came along with Oracle 11g R2 installation)
Although I was allowed to install HTMLDB 1.6.1 on the new machine, the migration to APEX4.0 did not find my existing application that was deployed on HTMLDB 1.6.1 and thus it did not migrate it. I guess the migration checks only the latest version (Apex 3.2) that it is installed and ignores all applications deployed on previous versions (That's why my application was not migrated)
After that I had to manually de-install both APEX 4.0 and APEX 3.2 completely and then re-install APEX 4.0. In this scenario the application is successfully migrated from HTMLDB 1.6.1 to Apex 4.0
Thanks for the help any way.

  • Oracle Apex to Oracle Apps Forms migration

Is it possible to migrate a form exsisting in Oracle Apex to Oracle apps forms? If so pl tell me how this could be achieved.

    Hey men!!
In my opinio in not posible because in oracle Apex you have another kind of programming, and in Oracle forms you others type of tools for example: triggers, I said isn'tr posible because there isn't a tool or an application that can help you in convert from Apex to Form, it's very extrange circumstance.
This is posible but... you have to program, typing and all of anything for converting to Oracle Form if you don't want to do anything you have to pay someone for developing that ,
in others words you have/must (to) start from the beginning,
    from zero.
Unfortunately today there is not application that can let you do that.
    I hope this helps,
    Best Regards my buddy.
