Migration on Unix OS

Hi,
I want to migrate data from Oracle 7.3 to Oracle 8 on Unix Operating system.
Is the process same as the one followed on NT Operating system?
What is the much preferred method , using migrating utilities or import/export ?
Thanks !

Hi,
IPC does not run on Unix back in 2.0c days.
Can't answer the rest as not a basis person.  Would really suggest you contact you local SAP representative for supporting this option.
Best solution would be to upgrade CRM of course!
Cheers
Andrew

    Hi Rajesh,
Could you briefly explain me the scenario in which you want to transfer the data ?
    Upto my understanding:
If you want to transfer the data from SAP to legacy system, through ALE u need to have translation programs, u can use BAPI's for this.

    Hi,
This forum is intended for questions about migrating to Oracle from non-Oracle databases.
It is dificult to say whether Linux or Solaris would be the better platform for you as there are so many factors involved.
It would be better to ask this question in a different forum - try one of these -

They may be able to give some advice.

  • Migration of Unix Forms fmb/pll/mmb code to Windows 2000 platform

Hi, I am now runnning a forms 4.5 application on a COMPAQ TRUE 64-bit OS platform. However, as I have decided to switch to a Windows 2000 platform, may I know whether are the Unix fmb/pll/mmb source code that I have be re-usable in the Windows environment ? If it is not just copy and recompile, then what must I do to re-use the Unix code?
    Thank you very much.
    Regards.
    Isaac Tan

    Hi,
I did port our forms application from Sparc Solaris to NT/2000 2 years ago. Porting from unix to windows is easier than windows to unix (no dll's to worry).
You will need to compile the pll files first, then the mmb files and then your forms. You can create a batch file to do this (there are related postings on OTN and Metalink regarding such .bat files).
You might have problems with your icons and fixing it is easy. Also, if your application is for client/server, then on windows it will use the MDI screen - but this is not a problem at all - it will (especially menus) will be displayed on this MDI screen instead of the individual client/server form.

  • Concurrent Reports failing after migrating to UNIX and RAC

    Hi,
One of our customer was running Oracle Apps 11i (11.5.10.2) with Apps Tier on Windows 2003 and Db Tier on Sun Spark Solaris. Recently they migrated and upgraded the Apps Tier to Sun Spark Solaris and the db tier to Oracle 10g R2 RAC.
Since then some of the concurrent reports (custom) in the Arabic interface are not working properly. We found out that when the report is run and when the session NLS_LANG is explicitly set to AMERICAN in the Before Report Trigger the report runs fine. But if the NLS_LANG is "ARABIC" the reports returns error like "Program was terminated by signal 11" in Arabic.
As a workaround we have put NLS_LANG=american in before report trigger to alter the session as a workaround.
Any hint to resolve this issue?

Apparently as400 is not case sensitive OS, AIX is so this is causing issues after the migration to UNIX (AIX).  What do you recommend for analysis of what will need correction in SAP system - config / tables entries / variants / code?  Is there a way to make UNIX files case insensitive?

  • Migrating Windows platform to Unix R3 release 4.6C

Can folks share what their experience has been with this type of migration. Our company has a highly customized R3 environment with a very large DB and a large connected landscape of standard ALE and non standard file transfer in and out and are about to embark on migration to Unix from Windows.
This is a box slated for retirement and eventual migration to a new box. We do not want to upgrade 4.6 to ERP2005 for example with the complexity we have already created
There is very little written on migrating from Unix to Windows and the pitfalls that i can find and so I am looking for real life experiences on issues and resolution to assist in our planning effort.
Thanks in advance for this information.

-> you will need sap onboard, meaning you'll have to order the <b>migration check/service</b> - otherwise the target platform will no longer be supported by sap
-> you will need a <b>certified heterogeneous system copy consultant</b> who will perform the actual steps (or at least sign them...)
-> as you will stay on 46C you must have <b>extended support ordered</b> - otherwise no support from sap
-> have a look at sapnet, alias OSDBMIGRATION
<u>the procedure is roughly as follows:</u>
    a) order dbosmigration check/service and migration key(s)
    b) set up your target box (win2k3, 64bit etc.) according to instguide
    c) get instguide 46C <b>and</b> homogeneous/heterogeneous system copy guide + relevant notes (557255 & 578004 are very important!)
    d) install r3setup on source box, export database using r3setup and template dbexport.r3s
    e) transfer export data to target host (using ftp for example)
    f) install rdbms (if you're on oracle or db2; sapdb will be installed while setting up database instance)
    g) install central instance using r3setup and template central.r3s
    h) install database instance using r3setup and template dbmig.r3s
    i) perform post installation activities
if you're on oracle you might think about "upgrading", for example from 9.2 to 10.2...an export done under oracle 9.2 can be imported under 10.2 if the database export was done using sap export routines such as r3setup...

  • 4.6B Migration+Upgrade - ECC6 Discussion

We will be upgrading from 4.6b on a Windows/SQLServer platform to ECC6.0 on a Unix/DB2 platform.  The first step in this process is a migration to the new OS and RDBMS.
I would like to discuss the potential pitfalls of the migration to Unix and DB2 here.  Perhaps you've been through this process and can give me some input on what to watch out for?  I already know of a number of things that will break due to EXEC SQL use.
    Thanks for any input.

    Dear Crew,
It is not the direct answer of your question but while upgrading you might need them.

After opening the site, please select the Source Release Version which is 4.6 b Then Select the Target Release Version which is "mySAP ERP 2005" or ECC 6.0
Select the Solution Area like Financials, Human Capital Management, Sales....
Select module like MM, PP, SD, QM.....
    Click on Search
Then it displays the Release Version and the Delta Functionality. which can be downloaded to a word document if required.
and also check the release notes of ECC 6.0 in service.sap.com.

  • Recommendations for upgrade & migration path/documentation

I have a client running portal 3.0.9.8.0 and Forms/Reports 6i on Windows 2000. The repository database is running on some flavor of HP unix, HPUX I believe.
They want to upgrade portal and reports to the latest, but not forms (apparently there is some functionality that they use that is no longer present in the more recent version). They also want to move the portal and reports to a second unix box...
and they only want ot give me one day of downtime to accomplish this (Sunday of course).
Would it be better to migrate the midtier ot unix and then upgrade, or upgrade and then migrate to unix? I'm thinking probably the latter since getting the older installation media for HPUX might be a challenge...
Also, can I just move the .rdf files and recompile on the HP machine, or is there something more that needs to be done there? Not finding a lot of documentation on migrating reports... mostly just seeing forms.
Can anyone point me to some good documentation?
    TIA
    Marion

GPS is actually easy and quick for the most part - typically an event easily assigns to a single location so you open the info pane for the event and assign the GPS to the whole event at once
In other instances when you are moving you still can assign a location to the first photo in a location, copy the photo (edit menu ==> copy or Command-C) and select the remaining photos at that location and paste the location (edit menu ==> paste location)
Of course I got a GPS camera which is even better  - and reason to get a new camera
The places display is fun - especially on the iPad - and the maps for books are great for vacations
