Migration path for us.

Guys
We are using MDEX 6.1.4 in production. This was the version released by Endeca (not Oracle Endeca).
We have a dash-boarding kind of application that uses the JAVA Endeca API with Endeca EQL/RRN and Analytics queries. We have guided navigation features in the application, and they work great with Endeca analytics being used to render charts and tables.
Now we are thinking of upgrading to the Oracle Endeca version and we are stumped. There are 2 paths available to us - Endeca Commerce Platform that allows us to keep the existing pipelines, and also allow us to use the Content Assembler API and Analytics API. The other product OEID is touted for BI type customers. We are a BI type customer - but we do all our BI type queries using Endeca Analytics API.
Can anyone tell us how to proceed? We also have OBIEE in-house - and are we better off biting the bullet and going with OEID and a major rewrite? Or should we go to Oracle Commerce and keep most of our Forge and other stuff?
Thanks and warm regards
Venkata Jagannath

HI Henno,
you question: "Can the Treasury "box" be running New GL while the core system is running the old one? (We are currently interfacing via FIDCMT IDOCS. It is not foreseen that document splitting will take place in the Treasury environment.) "
We are currently running on ECC 6.0 with New GL.  The Idocs for the FI interface have not changed but the main concern about what you are trying to achieve is that in the future when the "core" system migrates to New GL they might require document splitting which in turn could affect your treasury box set-up.  More likely, you will have to synch both boxes to provide the data that would be required to post correctly in FI core.
What this means is that if you have not defined the right characteristics (document splitting, etc.)  in your treasury box you will have to do a re-implementation of New GL and this will require SAP help...so you might end up implementing new GL again in both  your system in April 2012.
I have to assume also that the team for the April 2012 implementation does not have the final requirement as yet.  So I would not advice you to active new GL until you can synch up with your core system set up.

  • Suggested migration path for 10G rel 1 (90400) installation to 10.1.2.0.2?

We are a heavy forms/reports shop. We have just gotten done installing 10G Rel 1 (9.0.4.0.0), and now that the latest version of the App Server has been released, I'm wondering what the suggested Migration Path should be? And whether there are any "must have" features that will make an appreciable difference in forms/reports. Or, should we just install the latest patchset for our 904 installation and be done with it?
    Thanks in advance.
    Phil McDermott

Hmm... well, I'm going to be testing the forms/reports features of 10.1.2.0.2 just as soon as I get time, but what I'm hoping for most is that forms will work with SSO through the webcache. There is a bug in 9.0.4 that I'm aware of where SSO fails while working through the webcache. Oracle said they were working on the issue...
...anyone here know if Oracle fixed that bug? It may be a while before I'll have the time to play with 10.1.2.0.2.

  • Migration Path for Organizer?

Out of curiousity, what are the "natural" migration paths from Organizer?  Do any software "read" the Organizer DB and convert to their own format (ACDSee?  Lightroom?)?
I'm not planning to move off Photoshop Elements any time soon, but Organizer doesn't appear to get a lot of attention from Adobe and lots of us like to have a Plan B.
I'm not too concerned about Slide Shows (I like JAlbum) or the "map" feature (other free or cheap applications do map tagging in an easier and more standard way).  I'm mostly concerned about tags, notes and collections.
    I know you can force Organizer to write the tags out to the fiel in a standard way (IPTC categories I think) and comments and dates are written to the EXIF header.  But that's "Plan C" ;-}

Before jumping into the migration/conversion process, I would like to get an excellent understanding of the problems and limitations of the conversion process. Is there a book or document that provides an extensive description of the conversion process and identifies comprehensively and fairly the problems and limitations of such a conversion?
Also, in order to learn to use efficiently Lightroom: is there one or two books that you would recommend me more than others?
Finally I have also a probably simple question: I am not motivated at all to use RAW because of the huge amount of Disk Space required for 30'000-50'000 RAW Photos (andbecause of the time and Disk space required for Backups of such large amounts of Photos). Will I be able to use all (or most?) nice features of Lightroom, even if I continue to use jpeg File formats?
There is no book that covers conversion from PSE to Lightroom.
In general, the conversion from PSE to Lightroom does most of what you would want it to do, so I wouldn't fear the process. The conversion from PSE to Lightroom is not perfect; for one thing, version sets are lost, as there is no concept of version sets in Lightroom. Stacks are maintained upon conversion. Tag hierarchies don't show up in LR exactly as they were in PSE; but its relatively easy to recreate your hierarchies in Lightroom.
I recommend Martin Evening's book, The Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 2 Book: The Complete Guide for Photographers. I have become quite dis-illusioned with Scott Kelby's books for a number of reasons, so I dis-recommend them.
Your disk space problems exist whether or not your photos are in Lightroom or PSE or neither or both. Lightroom doesn't make this worse or better. Getting more disk space makes this better. Lightroom is an excellent program for RAW photos; it is just as excellent for .jpg photos. What you lose in photo quality is not because of Lightroom's ability to handle .jpg photos; you lose in photo quality because your originals are .jpg and what ANY program can do with these is less than what ANY program can do with RAW photos.
And by the way, I find myself frightened by the thought that someone has 30000 to 50000 photos and doesn't do backups because of disk space problems. This is a recipe for having zero photos some day when your hard drive crashes. If you can't make backups because of disk space issues, I would strongly recommend that you remedy this by getting another hard disk before you address any conversion to Lightroom issues. Spend that money on a disk drive rather than on Lightroom

  • What is the simplest migration path for a Word Newsletter to InDesign?

I support an educational organization in the creation, layout, update and publication of a multi-page (between 8-15 pages) newsletter newsletter on a monthly basis.
The layout changes every month depending on content.
Updates come to me in all different formats from plain text emails to PDF files.  We use graphics and pictures of all formats.
Each page is either a one or two column format, some pages contain tables and some do not.
Many pages contain graphical elements like horizontal lines to break up each article.
The newsletter is currently created, updated, converted and published with Word 2013 in Compatibility Mode in .DOC format
I would very much like to migrate this newsletter to InDesign.
    How do I start?
    Thank you for all comments!

How do you start? make a newsletter template with your static content, master pages and styles, then you can place or paste text from pretty much any source, and place your images. Each month you start fresh from your template. It's actually a lot easier, in my opinion, to do this kind of layout in ID than it is in Word.

  • Upgrade path for BI Publisher

    Hi,
We are using Oracle BI Publisher 10.1.3.4.1 deployed with in Oracle application server SOA suite 10.1.3.1.0 on its own. We plan to upgrade our application server area to WEBLOGIC suite some time soon.
Finally, we want to deploy Oracle BI Publisher into WEBLOGIC suite along with oracle forms/reports etc with high availability.
I checked with oracle through SR and as per them as of now there no migration path for Oracle BI Publisher on WEBLOGIC suite.
    1) Can any one give idea of what will be migration path for Oracle BI Publisher on WEBLOGIC which will co-exists with oracle forms/reports etc
    Thanks

We are trying to create graphical reports from Oracle Financial Statement Generator (FSG) xml output. I personally have extensive exposure working with XML (BI) Publisher but until recently I have never tried to use the BIP charting wizard to create graphical reports from FSG xml output out of EBS 11i/R12.
I created an SR with Oracle but they had to create an enhancement request for this issue. Does anyone know or have any idea on how we can accomplish this. The charting wizard pops up but the xml tags available do not make any sense.
If anybody has any idea please send me an email at [email protected]
    Thanks,
    Leo

  • How to find out import & export path for object migration between D Q & P?

    Hi guys!
Is there a way, how to find out export and import path for object transport on XI?
    Thanx!
    Olian

    Hi,
Have a look at these links.
When we do an export of the IR or the ID Oblects, a typical path at which it gets exported in the XI Server is as follow:
    For IR Objects:
    “C:\usr\sap\PI1\SYS\global\xi\repository_server\export “
    For ID Objects:
    "C:\usr\sap\PI1\SYS\global\xi\directory_server\export"
Now in case you need to import the ".tpz" that you have.... You need to place it in the path mentioned below and u will be able to do import it from IR or ID...
    For IR Objects:
    “C:\usr\sap\PI1\SYS\global\xi\repository_server\import “
    For ID Objects:
    "C:\usr\sap\PI1\SYS\global\xi\directory_server\import"

  • New Clean Mac - Best Migration Path?

I currently have a iMac G5 running Tiger and iLife 06 and have just recieved a new iMac with Leopard pre-installed and was looking for some advice in the best migration path.
I would like to know wether people recommend just using the Migration Assistant to get everything across or should I start afresh and copy across specific photos, music, mail files etc?
The question stems from the fact that the G5 has had a couple of upgrades in its time and I look at things such as the iphoto library files and they seem to be mutiple libraries (ie iphoto library, iphoto 6 library) and other duplicate files. So not sure if MA will sort and clean these out or will copy all across?
Any thoughts would be apreciated........thanks Daniel

    Hello Daniel,
Very similar issues here. Just upgraded from a G4 to an intel 2.4G. I cloned the G4 onto an external. Set up the new iMac. Connected to the external and ported across only those files I wanted or needed. Now have a clean iMac with no clutter or unwanted junk on it. Double checked that everything was in order before wiping the external and cloning again.
Hang on to the G5 - Just in case you missed something. A flash drive or CD will resolve any issues.

  • 11gR2 RAC stability and migration path

We are preparing to go from a 10g Data Guard environment (1 primary and 1 physical standby) to an 11g RAC cluster on Sun M5000s (Data Guard will not be part of the final configuration). We have heard that 11gR2 RAC is not yet mature enough so we are considering going to 11gR1. I'm curious what the general consensus is regarding the stability of 11gR2 RAC.
Also wondering what the best migration path would be. We are considering upgrading the 10g Data Guard databases to 11g and then creating a RAC physical standby database on the 11g cluster for the primary database on the old server. The migration to the new RAC cluster will consist of a failover to the new 11g RAC database and will involve minimal downtime. The 10g Data Guard databases and servers will then be decommissioned.
    Thoughts?

You will be surprised if I said Oracle RAC11gR2 seems to be a new version NOT a new realease of Oracle RAC11gR1.
Many new features, surprises, bugs, yes bugs....
I suggest to directly address to Oracle itself , to your support at Oracle , as it seems to be a production DB. DOnt take the risk to decide from this forum , ask oracle experts at your support!
    Good luck

  • Migration Path from v2008.3 to v9.3.2

Is there a migration path from v2008.3 to v9.3.2?
Our v2008.3 environment is on a Windows 2003 server, therefore we cannot do an in-place upgrade to v9.3.2 (on Windows 2008R2).  CatalogDeployer does not work between v2008.3 and v9.3.2.
Any ideas on how to move the services from one environment to another?
    Please help!

We were on 2008.3 and then went to 9.1 SP2.  The upgrade meant we had to install the last service pack for 2008 and then install to 9.1 and then install the SP2 pack.  This change fro 2008.3 to 9.1 SP2 was a big pain for us on the Reporting side.  The MyServices and ServiceDesigner pieces had little problems.  This was an upgrade from Win2003 w/ SQL 2005 to Win2003 w/SQL 2008.  We've been running 9.1 SP2 on SQL2008 for a year now with no problems.
We are now upgrading to 9.3.2 and are just going to run the 9.3.2 installer.  We will have new servers put in place with Win 2008R2 and on the database side have just done an inplace update from SQL 2008 to SQL 2008 R2.  This means that currently we are running 9.1 SP2 on SQL 2008 R2 in production.  We run a very high volume for RequestCenter so the setup works fine for us in this topology.  Going to Win2008 we are going to copy the database tables and run an in-place upgrade on the newly built Win2008 app server.
As for CatalogDeployer, we kept the old environment and the new environment around while testing the upgrade.  This meant we could make changes to Prod using the old environment and then once production was upgraded, we deleted the old environment.

  • No oci jdbc11 in java.librar.path for SQL Developer 2.1 EAI

Just migrated my connections from 1.5.5 and tested.
I have the one with the JDK built-in.
I browsed to it and it comes up.
However when I access a connection I get the below:
no oci jdbc11 in java.librar.path for SQL Developer 2.1 EAI

I got it to work using a BASIC call instead of my normal TNS call.
We use MS SMS to package the Oracle client and SQL Developer and push it out to users so we don't have people visiting desktops. Also, we use OID to store the entries instead of a tnsnames file so that we don't have to maintain a TNSNAMES file.
I am testing 2.1 as we would eventually upgrade when it goes GA.
2.1 seems to be built on Oracle 11g. Issue will be that since 99% of our databases are 10gr2 as well as 100% of our client population will be be forced to upgrade the Oracle client to use 2.1 as we do today without lots of changes for the end user?
We don't broadcast the information the average user requires for a BASIC connection so that is out for non technical users..
We have SQL Developer 1.5.5 right now and this is not and issue.
Hopefully, this will be resolved during EAI for 2.1.

  • Essbase Migration Path 6.5 to 9.3.1

My company needs to migrate from Hyperion Essbase 6.5 to 9.3.1.
I have been told that this can be done from 6.5 --> 7.1.3 --> 9.3.1
    I have received conflicting advice that it needs to be done this way 6.5 --> 7.1.3 --> 7.1.6 --> 9.2.1 --> 9.3.1
What is the optimal and shortest path for this migration?
Any help and experience shared is much appreciated.

My first question would be why are you only going to 9.3.1? Sice it appears you upgrade seldom, why wouldn't you upgrade to 11.1.2.1? As for upgrade path. The path you mention is if you are upgrading in place. Since you are going from such an old version, I'll guess you are going to be on new hareware as well. If it is just Essbase, you could migrate individual objects export and import data, redo your security (and most likely go to external authentication) and be set to go. Talk to a qualified infrastructure consultant as the install for 9X and 11X are more complicated than 6. (I used to carry 6 around with me on a cd)

  • Relative path for images in RTF templates

    Hi everybody!
    When I insert an image in a RTF template, I put its path into the web dialog, in order to see correctly the picture when I open the report from the xmlp server, in this way: url:{"http://servername/analytics/res/Images/image.bmp"}
How can I make this path relative, in order to see the images even if the server name changes?
    Thanks so!
    Francesco

    Hi Tim,
I am using BIP 10.1.3.3.2. I am able to access system variable CURRENT_SERVER URL.
    Steps:
    <?param@begin:CURRENT_SERVER_URL?>
    <xsl:value-of select="$ CURRENT_SERVER_URL"/>
CURRENT_SERVER_URL is getting printed in BI Publisher. Value displayed is http://xx4697.xxx.co.in:9704/xmlpserver.
Now we are importing xsl into RTF template. File aaa.xsl is stored at [BIP_Installation_Directory\oc4j_bi\j2ee\home\default-web-app]
We have hardcoded the path for XSL in RTF. The path is <?import: http://xx4697.xxx.co.in:9704/aaa.xsl?>
As we want to set dynamic path we changed hardcoded xsl path to <?import: {$CURRENT_SERVER_URL}/../aaa.xsl?> but it is not working. Sometimes BIP is taking local path of MyDocuments folder and sometimes Desktop path. If I put that XSL file in MyDocuments folder or Desktop, it is working fine. But ideally it should refer [BIP_Installation_Directory\oc4j_bi\j2ee\home\default-web-app] path...
