Migration QA methodology

After migration of the data, is there a methodology for making sure all the data has been migrated correctly to the the Oracle Datbase.
Thanks,
Eyal

Eyal,
you didn't tell us from which foreign database you have migrated. If it is SQL Server or Sybase then have a look here:

  • Informatica and DAC questions

I understand that ODI is the tool of choice for the Analytics apps, but Informatica was still supported. Informatica is our standard integration tool, so we would like to upgrade ahead of Informatica version retirement.
    1) Is Informatica 8.x supported for the Analytics apps? If so, which sub version?
There is a Enhancement request in Metalink that says support will appear in the Tenerife release, but I have been unable to find confirmation.
    2) Does anyone have good migration strategies/methodologies for break-fix that invovle DAC changes. Wholesale DAC repository migration is ham-handed at best and recoding DAC elements after a move to a QA or Production is simply wrong.

ODI is not yet supported for any of the BI Applications.
The target is CY 2008 for one of the Analytic Apps to be able to use ODI.
We will continue to support Informatica going forward and recently renewed an agreement with them.
    To your other questions:
    1. No, INFA 8 is not yet supported but probably this CY.
    2. There are some documents that cover migrating and DAC Repository, etc. Yes this process needs to be improved but it is almost impossible to capture mechanisms that could compensate for every possible choice a customer could make.

  • Discoverer 4i to OBIEE migration methodology - Oracle Recommended Way

    Hi,
We are looking into a scenario where we are required to migrate large number of Discoverer 4i reports to OBIEE. We have good number of custom reports(approx 200) and views too that are to be migrated.
Am aware about the migration assistant that comes along with OBIEE 10.1.3.4. It's a very useful tool, BUT we need to consider the following facts before proceeding:
    1. The tool is not for migrating Oracle E-Business Suite Discoverer reports (BIS).
    2. The minimum version of Discoverer EUL that can be used with the Assistant is 10.1.2.n.
    3. The version of the RPD file that is generated is dependent upon the installed version of Oracle BI EE that the Assistant is run against but must be a minimum of 10.1.3.4.
What is the Oracle recommended approach... complete rebuild of the repository in OBIEE/ Migration from 4i -> 9i ->10g and then to 10.1.3.4/...?
Appreciate inputs from the product gurus and experts.

Ok firstly I'm not sure there is an Oracle recommended approach for migration,.
However based on my experience at an eBS client - the Discoverer workbooks were very different from what we wanted to achieve with our new OBIEE dashboards. The Discoverer folders were based on complex views which joined relevant OLTP tables together and contained both Dimension attributes and Facts in the same folder. They were used by our users mainly to extract data at the transaction level into Access databases, this is something we were keen to move away from, and adopt a more Analytic top down approach, drilling into the detail as in Disco. This did require some additional work with our user base to see what they were actually doing in Access and if we could do this in OBIEE, which in most cases we could (although we did use Apex in places too).
We looked at the migration tool, and it seemed to do a decent enough job technically, however for the reasons above ie. the move towards a top down solution we decided on a manual build approach.
The model for OBIEE had to be different, we broke down the views into their component Dimensions and Facts for - whilst the Physical model was 3NF, we ensured the Business model was a pure Star Schema (this was recommended by Oracle). The Subject Areas were kept quite small, and aligned to the business process, no more than 10-12 logical tables with a couple of fact logical tables, and most of all our dev teams had a set of guidelines to follow to ensure we had consistent repositories (Object Names, Ordering, Logical Levels etc..)
If you are using eBS i would have a look at some of the BI Applications Oracle have produced, you may get a good idea for best practise and standards for producing a repository from them. Also the new 10.1.3.4 dashboard has some examples of good layout, and some nice tips (ie. One Answer per Dashboard page, Prompts at the top etc...etc..)
    Good Luck.

  • Apex 4.2: migrating db tables between servers - methodology

    Hello
I’m just about to start migrating DB tables from apex.oracle.com onto our local server (by copying the CREATE statement from the Object Browser > SQL tab and then later exporting/importing data via Excel).
Can anyone confirm that this is the best approach as there are ~45 tables and I wouldn’t want to later discover there was a quick way to export all the tables in one go (they all begin “AA_” so I had hoped I could refer to them collectively in one mega export).
Similarly it would be good to know if there is a way to generate SQL that both CREATE and INSERT statements in one go.
    Thanks

  • Folders affected after KM Content Transport using ICE Methodology

    Hi All,
I am encountering a strange behaviour when I use ICE methodology to Transport KM Content.
When I migrate a particular folder using ICE package, the folder gets transported successfully to the target system, but after the Transport, the other folders in the target system are getting affected.
Can anyone tell me the reason for this starnge behaviour of ICE package.
Any kind of help would be greatly appreciated.
    Regards,
    Adren

    Follow below defined process
    Go to -
    >Content Administration--->KM Content->go to ice(folder)->go to Syndicator->go to Global Offer> Clear (delete) all folder shortcut links>above breadcum you will see Folder command click there-> Select New>Select Link>Browse and select the folder you want to transport->select the folder link and click on Complete Package--> file will be downloaded
This file you can upload in other server through Content Management---->Package Upload---> Browse and select file and upload
I think you must be doing the same process but you might not be clearing old folder links which can cause the problem and replace other folders whose link is there available in Global Offer folder.(This step in process is highlighted with underline)
Just Clear and try once ....

  • Data Migration techniques

    Hi Experts,
I want to know about data migration techniques and how we can best use MDM while migrating old version of R/3 to new version of R/3....
I have implemented SAP MDM in cases where we have number of SAP R/3 instances across different region and we were taking data from different R/3 one by one and doing data stan'zation, consolidation, Harmonization and all... I am not talking about all this...
There was a good explanation from <b>Markus Ganser</b> about <b>Duplicate data and identical data</b>... I know all this..but my question is when I have <b>only one SAP R/3</b> and I still want to implement MDM solution while migrating my old R/3 instance to new one, How can I proceed in this scenario? What is the data migration technique...
I know the common answer will be to use MDM as a middle ware..take Master data from old instance and after consolidation, send it back to new instance and at the same time send tran'data directly to new version... But is this worth doing this? Is there any other approach?
If there is any document on this or any one have idea about data migration techniques while implementing MDM solution than send me documents on [email protected].......
In short, I am looking for below 3 points while doing migration along with SAP MDM

  • Migration of data of GL 10.7 for 11i

    Good morning
To do the migration of data of GL, do I need to use some tool??
Will I have to use SQLLOAD, to do a package, to use IMPORT/EXPORT??
Somebody can give me a trick, it can be a link, article, document
    Thank you!
    JOSE CARLOS

    Hi Guys,
Following up on your discussion of upgrading. If I have a new server, doing the latest Apps 11i install (stable one) and then load my previous version's data (therefor take the export and import it into the blank installation... is that the common methodology. We are on Apps 11.5.9, no patching done for a year, and now we have to move forward, so I have been contemplating best methodology. I take it to be something like this? : Note (Single Node Server Installation)
    1. Get new server, install new OS (SuSE Linux 9)
    2. Install blank Oracle 9i DB
    3. Install Oracle Apps on Server
    4. Take Backup before Importing current data from DB.
    5. Run in Parallel for a month to confirm data to be 100% correct.
Thanks, a yes or no (if that simple) will suffice

  • Migrating IR Reporting to new server

We are moving from an old production Workspace server to a new one. It will be the same version of Hyperion (11.1.2.1) and have the same name - this is simply a Hardware upgrade. The problem is that there will also be a new repository database server. Is there a way to migrate the repository from the old server to the new one?
The issue is this: We have lots of users that have saved Interactive Reports (IR), and if the reports won't run after the migration, there will be a great wailing and gnashing of teeth from our user community. Joking aside, we would very much like to avoid this. We are told that LCM is the proper methodology for migrating - will it also preserve the repository entries so saved IR reports will continue working? If not, what can we do?
    thanks,
    -pat

LCM is the best way to migrate from environments or even between apps on the same environment. So you shold be fine to:
    1. create LCM
    2. install new server, hyperion software,
    3. restore via LCM
The only issue I could see coming up relates to the ip address which would be different from old to new server, which is why LCM should get around that.
*I haven't used LCM for IR reports specifically, but all for other workspace items:  FR, WA reports and user settings are migrated if you chose to do so.

I have several Access 2000 databases that I would like to convert to Oracle 9i. I'm interested in tools/methodologies used by some of you to perform this kind of task. Any help is appreciated

IIRC, it's free (as in free beer). But to be sure, you should contact your Oracle representative.
Anyway it would be strange to have custommers pay for a tool that helps them to migrate to a platform for which they'll pay license (big bucks), support, etc...

ASAP methodology is one methodlogy used in implementing SAP .
The ASAP methodology adheres to a specific road map that addresses the following five general Phases:
    Project Preparation, in which the project team is identified and mobilized, the project Standards are defined, and the project work environment is set up;
    Blueprint, in which the business processes are defined and the business blueprint document is designed;
    Realization, in which the system is configured, knowledge transfer occurs, extensive unit testing is completed, and data mappings and data requirements for migration are defined;
Final Preparation, in which final integration testing, stress testing, and conversion testing are conducted, and all end users are trained; and
Go-Live and Support, in which the data is migrated from the legacy systems, the new system are activated, and post-implementation support is provided.
ASAP incorporates standard design templates and accelerators covering every functional area within the system, as well as supporting all implementation processes. Complementing the ASAP accelerators, the project manager can create a comprehensive project plan, covering the overall project, project staffing plan, and each sub-process such as system testing, communication and data migration. Milestones are set for every work path, and progress is carefully tracked by the project management team.
    Hope it will help you.
