Migration Strategy IDOCS or FTP

Hello Friends,
I have roughly around 8 million records which I need to transfer from Standard R/3 to a staging layer ( not decided yet mostly DB2) .
I am looking for a strategy as how to transfer this large amount of data from SAP using IDOCS or FTP and which would give me a better performance and tracibility.
Also if you guys can tell me what is the advantage of using BIZTALK inbetween them when using IDOC ?
Regards,
Sohail

Hello,
Better performance depends upon how you design the itnerface to extract data .If it's customised interface using which you are going to generate idocs or extract data into file for FTP ,then good design & coding is necessary.
& as far as tracability is concerned ,then first question is you want to trace records by some parameters ? If yes, then IDoc may not be correct. Then your extraction interface will be better .You need to design it using parameters based on which file will be generated & send it to other system via FTP.& that file you can use it to check records(e.g. as per sales org, customer, material etc.)
So the criteria for which you need tracability that has to be taken into account for selecting transfer method.(idocs/FTP).& also which method will involve more development efforts that also matters.
BIZTALK can be used as an intermediate tool which will help transfer of SAP-readable IDocs to receiving system readable data (e.g. sap -> middleware tool -> receiver system)
Hopw this helps.
Thanks.

• IDOC to FTP File - Error : SAP:Stack No receiver agreement found for send

Hello Friends,
I need to configure a senario Idoc to FTP File, Í did required settings in R3 and in PI... , did mapping and configuratino in PI... and when I send my idoc I got error msg in monitor
<SAP:Stack>No receiver agreement found for sender ,BMG_ASN_File_Component to receiver ,GTN_224,http://adis-bmg.de/asn,SI_BMG_ASN</SAP:Stack>
I search the fourm but did not got my answer, me just a bit confused...
In my senario I have having followings:
1. Bussiness System ( RFT : sender R3 system). ( I have define a party and make a connection under Idoc Partner )
2. Bussiness Component ( ZTEST_COMP as on Reciever side is File Server, so I define the reciver as bussiness component )
3. Communicatin Channel
File with protocol FTP having communicatin component as my Bussiness Component ( reciver ). there I defied the required info for FTP
4. Reciever Determination
Sender:
- RFT
- Idoc-Interface
- urn:sap-com:document:sap:idoc:messages
Reciever
communication party = space
communicatin component = ZTEST_COMP
Configure Reciever:
There I again define the communication component as ( ZTEST_COMP)
5. Interface Determination
-RFT
- Idoc-Interface
- urn:sap-com:document:sap:idoc:messages
Reviever:
ZTEST_COMP
and define the mapping which I did in design ( although I have seen some threads where mentioned we dont need maaping in this case ) ?
6. Reciver agrement
sender:
- RFT
Reviver:
- ZTEST_COMP
- SI interface ( SI_BMG_ASN )
and included my CC for file .....
Now when I send Idoc I got error msg that Reciver is not found : am I dong something wrong ? do I have to defien a bussiness system instead of Bussiness Component ?
Pls suggest...

( I have define a party and make a connection under Idoc Partner
Do you really need a party in your communication? Should it not be a partly-less communication.
In the receiver agreement ensure that you have included the inbound message interface.
communication party = space
No need to give any space.
In the Interface Determination i hope that you have included the receiver meessage interface and then the corresponding Interface Mapping.
If still not works then make some dummy changes and again activate....correspondingly check the cache status of the ID-objects

Abhishek.

hi all
i am doing the abover scenario.
in message monitoring R/3>XI>FTP is successful
FTP>XI>R3 System Error. How to handle the ACK.
MY Question is Do i have create any message mapping etc., to process the ack. or it will be automatic with the LS.
I dont have access to SLD currently.
ERROR MEssage:
Unable to convert sender service to an ALE logical system
thanks

HI Sri,
According to your Error message , What I can understand is , there is no proper logical system/business system is created between XI and R/3.
If you have access to Tcode-SM59 of R/3 system/XI system, try to test the connection. If everything is correct, go to Business system in the COnfiguration and check for the "Adapter Specific Properties". If it is pointing correctly to R/3 system, then it is ok.

Regd. ACK- Are u talking about Idoc Acknowledgement/FTP Ack ? If FTP, then there is no application ack. supported by Legacy systems like File System.

• IDOC to FTP keeping IDOC format

I am trying to ftp an IDOC to another server without it converting to XML format. I know there is a global setting to not convert for the IDOC adapter, but I do have 5 other scenarios that need the XML conversion. Is there a way to have a scenario that goes like the below...
IDOC -> XI -> FTP
and keep the actaul file in the IDOC format?
Thanks

Hi,
have a look at this weblog to understand one
of the approaches:
/people/alessandro.guarneri/blog/2006/03/05/managing-bulky-flat-messages-with-sap-xi-tunneling-once-again--updated
the second approach is to use module IDX_XML_TO_IDOC
as described here:
https://websmp108.sap-ag.de/~sapdownload/011000358700001795162005E/HowToIDocXMLToFlat.pdf
these two should give you a good starting point:)

• Migration Strategy- AIA

I have tried to find out documents related to migration strategy(if any) defined by Oracle but could not find any. Can anyone point to any document/link so that I can know what values are to be populated in Oracle AIA for successful migration of Siebel CRM & Oracle BRM data?

Small databases could be migrated using conventional export/import for 9i and Data Pump for 10g. For larger databases I would consider transportable tablespaces.
I don't think that the migration strategy really depends on the fact that the target will use RAC One Node.
Much more important in my opionion are:
1. how much downtime you area ready to accept
2. what is the size of the databases
3. physical location of old and new server (in the same data center or in different data centers)

Can someone please throw some light on interfaces and the migration strategy of OM data apart from BDC and LSMW.

I feel LSMW is the Best way as you know what are the inputs which are giving in the Template and how it is getting Uploaded
for OM Data upload
you have to upload 1.Objects First 2. Relationships of that objects

• Data Migration Strategy: Legacy to CRM (BP and Case)

Hi,
What is the best strategy to implement in migrating data (Master and Transactional) from a Legacy System (text file) into SAP CRM: Legacy System Migration Workbench (LSMW), Master Data Manager (MDM) or ABAP? And what are the reasons?
Thanks,
Nhlanhla

Hi Nhlanhla,
You can achieve this by IDOCS or XIF Function Modules.
Preferred is develop a program using CRMXIF_PARTNER_SAVE and CRMXIF_PARTNER_REL_SAVE for better performance. Here you will find Z fields create through EEWB also.
For IDOCs
Message Type CRMXIF_PARTNER_SAVE_M
Basic Type CRMXIF_PARTNER_SAVE_M03
Message Type CRMXIF_PARTNER_REL_SAVE_M
Basic Type CRMXIF_PARTNER_REL_SAVE_M02

• Family Migration Strategy needed (from mobileme)

My brain is about to explode. I have read countless articles about mobileme to iCloud migration, and I am NOT clear as to how to accomplish this...
- I have an "AppleID" ([email protected]) that I have used for my family for countless years to purchase iTunes content.
- I have a mobileme account ([email protected]) that I have been using for a few years for iCal and Address book sync between 3 family iPhones and 3 family macs. Yes, we all share calendars and contacts.
It is my understanding that iCloud does not want us to share contacts and calendars. But as a family we want a single address book -- at least a subset of our addresses should be "shared".
I know that we can use the old AppleID for the store -- [email protected] -- ok, fine.
BUT - what is the best solution for:
- iCal calendars. We want to share our calendars between all macs and all IOS devices;
- Address Book. We have a family shared database -- and we want this shared. In our perfect world, we would have a group shared address book, and then local, non-shared part (didn't Now Contact handle this just perfectly 12+ years ago?)
Am I reading this corectly that we can have a 3rd AppleID for certain iCloud services? Is this true? But the "migration" is going to be a mess since we already are using, "[email protected]" for mobileme -- yes?
CAN I DO THIS:
1. use my existing [email protected] AppleID for iTunes (purchased content) for ALL devices;
2. use my existing [email protected] AppleID as MY iCloud address - for all iCloud services EXCEPT calendar, address book and photo stream;
3. create a new [email protected] AppleID for wife's iCloud services, EXCEPT calendar, address book and photo stream;
4. create a new [email protected] for daughter's iCloud services, EXCEPT calendar, address book and photo stream;
5. create a new [email protected] for FAMILY SHARED iCloud services: calendar, address book and photo stream;
Will this work for us?
Yes, WE WANT to share our calendars, our contacts and our photos.
Will the fact that I already have 2 Apple IDs (and one is mobileme) get in the way?
Is this strategy of a "3rd/SHARED" AppleID for contacts and calendars the correct approach?
Is there a best-way to do the migration?
Is there a worst-way/guaranteed to fail/avoid-or-else method?
WE DO NOT use mobileme or appleID for email.
WE HAVE gmail accounts in addition to our [email protected] addresses.
My macs are still on Snow and my iphones are still iOS 4.x (all iPhone 4), so I can't really try it and revert. I really want to take advantage of Lion and iOS5 features -- but if I can't do the shared calendars AND contacts, I need to find the solution before I do this.
Thanks in advance for your assistance here.
J

CAN I DO THIS:
1. use my existing [email protected] AppleID for iTunes (purchased content) for ALL devices;
2. use my existing [email protected] AppleID as MY iCloud address - for all iCloud services EXCEPT calendar, address book and photo stream;

5. create a new [email protected] for FAMILY SHARED iCloud services: calendar, address book and photo stream;
You should continue to your iTunes Store ID as you have done before, logging into iCloud sync services won't change this.
You can do all that you suggest however you can only log into one iCloud account at a time and your suggestion would require you to keep logging in and out of accounts which would all be rather clumsy.

• IDOC to FTPs performance issue

Hello everyone,
I have a scenario BS_A:idoc > xi > BS_B: file via ftps (ftp over ssl/tcp).
For each idoc two different files (content conversion) are created in the same directory.
I therefore have one receiver determination and one interface intermination with 2 inbound interfaces + interface mappings + 2 file receiver adpapters.
I have a performance problem when more than one idocs are created at the same time. First message goes through very fast. The ones after that take there time.
It takes 10 to 30 minutes (and some times more) for 2 idocs to deliver successfully 4 files at the other side.
Note 1: I do not exprience this when i work with normal FTP.
Note 2: I have unchecked the "Maintain at order time" check box in the interface determination. If checked then the QoS is set to EOIO.
Thanks in advance for any input or suggestions.

• Migration Strategy: 8.1.7.4 to 10.2 - Windows OS

Hi all,
I am looking to gain some insight to help formulate a strategy for migrating our 8.1.7.4 OLTP environment to 10.2. Our current OS is Windows 2000 Advanced Server. Our target OS is Windows 2003 Server.
Would anyone here care to share the steps they took to accomplish the same migration? Did you try several methods and what worked best? Did you migrate to 10g on the 2000 platform and then move to 2003? Did you install 10g on 2003 and then migrate your 8.1.7.x instance to it there. Did you run the two environments in parallel for a time while keeping them sync'd?
I am really just getting started on this and would appreciate any insights and advice I can gather. Thanks for any assistance you can lend.

8i is NOT supported on Windows 2003, so you cannot clone your current 8i database to the new server (if that would be possible, you could do a direct upgrade from 8.1.7.4 to 10.2).
It's only my experience (because it should work, both sites are Windows, same software (here I assume it's not 64bit Windows)), but I don't recommend to upgrade to 10.2 on Windows 2000 and afterwards to transfer to 2003. Better handle this environment as 2 different platforms.
So it remains the good old export/import to to this task. You will have a downtime,
after the setup on the new machine has finished, you have to export the data without any user activity. Then you have to import the dumpfile.

• RDS for SAP data migration through IDOC's

Dear Experts
Just now we have installed BODS 4.1 and RDS also installed now. I am in the process of exploring the RDS. I found all the migration objects is available in the form of IDOC's. Now my questions are
How to work on custom IDOC's. Do i need to extensively code on R/3 side to upload the custom fields. Like user exit or BADI for custom fileds
If yes then i would say implementation time through RDS will remain more or less same time.
Through BODS or by RDS migration objects is there any way without coding on ABAP R/3 side, Can we achieve migrating custom fields
Please let me how to achieve above requirements by RDS
Thanks
Vijay Mukunthan

Hi Vijay,
You are right, the standard content of the Rapid Data Migration RDS packages brings the content with the standard IDoc interface for SAP standard only. So custom objects are not pre-built with the package. However, we incorporated the foundation to include custom coding as easy as possible:
1) IDoc
We are using the standard interface technology IDoc. IDocs do have an enhancement concept which is described in the online help. There are three main cases and all of them are supported, however two need additional coding:
Z-fields: Additional fields in existing tables lead to IDoc segment extensions
With the IDoc segment versioning concept this is easy to realize without any ABAP coding
Z-tables: Additional IDoc segments will be necessary and lead to a new IDoc version
With the IDoc versioning concept you can easily add Z-segments with leveraging provided user exits
Custom business objects:
You can even create a complete own IDoc message type in Z-namespace for own stuff, leveraging the given ALE layer of the IDoc middleware
2) Enhancement guide
With the RDS package we offer an enhancement guide which helps you to modify the jobs and data flows in the SAP Data Services content according to the changes in the target IDoc structure to reflect additional fields and tables. We built it as a step-by-step guide following for a sample IDoc type but will work similarly for any IDoc.
Best regards,
Frank Densborn.

• IDOC- XI- FTP Partner function LI error party normalization

Hello,
Within XI we have a scenario where IDOC->XI->file(FTP).
IDOC is send using sende partner function LI and also receiver partner function LI.
We get the following Error when calling the FTP adapter:
Error during party normalization (party = 0000790463, agency = CED291, schema = ALE#LI) Normalization: Alternative party ID '0000790463' does not exist (agency 'CED291' and scheme '&PARTY_SCHEME&')
We can not change the way IDOC is sent out of SAP system.
The only way we can avoid this error is to create a (dummy) party and adding the identifier: agency=CED291 Scheme=ALE#LI name=0000790463.
However we do not want to create the dummy party.
Anybody a clue??
Thanks and have a nice weekend.
Emile

Additional information: When the receiving system is connected via HTTP-Adapter, the dummy party is not necessary.
This appears not to be very consequent.
Can somebody explain...
Tnx

• Business partner Migration Strategy

Dear All,
We have one project on CRM migration of Business partners along with marketing attributes from 4.0 to 7.0
There are two approaches u2013
1. Either the data is transferred from CRM 4.0 to CRM 7.0
2. Data is transferred from ECC6.0 to CRM 7.0
Which would be a better approach and why ?
Cheers,
Disha

Disha,
Since you have a requirement to transfer marketing attributes. Generally marketing attributes are maintained in CRM, so its easy to transfer from CRM to CRM. CRM4.0 and CRM7.0 data structures are almost same.
You need to go with data transfer from CRM 4.0 to CRM 7.0 using XIF concept.
Which requires very less configuration and easy maintenance. It transfers data through IDOC.
To achieve this create site, subscriptions in SMOEAC tcode.
Activate delta through CRMXIF_C1 tcode.
