Migration Strategy Using The Golden Gate
Hi All,
I am a DBA and new to the Golden Gate area. We are planning to migrate the one of our database (24/7 availability).

RDBMS Version: 9.2.0.5
Os: HP-UX
Size: 2TB
TARGET
RDBMS Vesrsion: 9.2.0.5
OS: Linux (x86)
What is the best approach to migrate the data using golden gate ? Which method of initial load will be preffered ?
I appreciate if some one shared their experiences (preffered method/time lines).

You would pay to license GoldenGate, but are using a desupported release of Oracle? If you are on support, simply upgrade to 10g and use transportable tablespaces. That's a no-brainer. Or, for whatever reason you cannot upgrade to 10g, use multiple streams of export/import. Or, use Streams. At face value, your combination of Oracle and wanting to use GoldenGate sounds like you aren't paying for either one.Yes, we are aware of 9i database support but we didn't get a chance to upgrade for all good reasons(old vendor app doen't support anything but 9i untill now. But we are going to
migrate the database to new platform(linux) and to 10g (as vendor certified th 10g but not 11g ).

I can't see my external disk source when trying to migrate data using the Migration Assistance.
I have an external hard disk (Lacie) with all my backed up data. After doing a clean install of Mavericks I now want to migrate my data using the Migration Asistance but it is not able to find the source.

we have SQL Server 2012 and from my reads and understanding OGG supports SQL Server up to 2008. not to say it wouldn't work on higher versions if installed. in the link above check out the SQL Server installation chapter. before purchasing the license I would contact Oracle.
maybe someone here has installed it on a higher version and got it to work. we are currently working on setting up OGG to work on Oracle to Oracle servers. -
Does Migration Assistant use the most recent time machine backup?
About to transfer my old macbook pro harddrive to my new imac..and when im in migration assistant it allows me to select ALL applications (not individual ones unfortuantely) to transfer from my time machine backup...curious, does it transfer all apps I have ever had on all my backups? - there is probably 20 different backups. I have cleared a ton of useless apps off my MBP and did a fresh backup hoping those would be the only ones to get transfered?

- You need to create a separate directory on the NFS where both systems have access
- you need to configure the export machine as "server" (read the docs!)
- you need to configure the exchange directory on both export and import migmon

I think you need to do the same setup as other GG versións :
1. Install Golden Gate software on extract/replicat sites
2. Create GG User with the necesary privs.
3. Set Min Logging level at database level.
4. Set TRANDATA for the tables that you like capture changes
After, you need analyze the objects that you need replicate and define the capture process.
To use GG on a MultiTenant Database, you need define at extract level the PDBs and the objects that you need extract. Remeber that in a Multi-tenant enviorment, only a set of redo logs exists,then the capture process is Multi-Tenant aware, because allow
set the PDB and the schema and the objects that you like capture. It is called qualified three-part name, PDB.SCHEMA.TABLE
Example:
SOURCECATALOG FINANCE TABLE SAP.*; ---> Source is the way to inlcude the PDB

Golden Gate Sequence Value replication?
Hi all,
I have searched the web, and read the Golden Gate documentation but I've found mixed answers.
I'm just trying to ascertain for certain whether it's possible to automatically replicate sequence values in a bi-directional configuration. Both databases will be identical and both will be 11gR2 with the latest version of GG.
If it is not possible to automatically increment sequences in a bi-directional configuration, what are the best practices for maintaing them?
One option is the alternate sequences on each database, one with even values (for example) and one with odd values, but this requires deployment of new sequences on both databases, something we were hoping would be taken care of by the replication. (yes the sequence creation can be taken care of but the value is not incremented on the target database).
another way that we thought of off the top of our heads is to have an on insert trigger (we only use sequences to generate surrogate keys) which will select nextval from the target database via a db link, but this seems somewhat cumbersome.

Valid for Extract
Use the SEQUENCE parameter to extract sequence values from the transaction log forpropagation to a GoldenGate trail and delivery to another database. Currently, GoldenGate supports sequences for the Oracle database.
NOTE DDL support for sequences (CREATE, ALTER, DROP, RENAME) is compatible with, but not required for, replicating sequence values. To replicate just sequence values, you do not need to install the GoldenGate DDL support environment. You can just use the SEQUENCE parameter.
GoldenGate ensures that the values of a target sequence are:
● higher than the source values if the increment interval is positive
● lower than the source values if the increment interval is negative
Depending on the increment direction, Replicat applies one of the following formulas as a test when it performs an insert:
source_highwater_value + (source_cache_size * source_increment_size * source_RAC_nodes) <= target_highwater_value

source_highwater_value + (source_cache_size * source_increment_size * source_RAC_nodes) >= target_highwater_value
If the formula evaluates to FALSE, the target sequence is updated to be higher than the source value (if sequences are incremented) or lower than the source value (if sequences are decremented). For example, if the source highwater value is 40, and CACHE is 20, and the source INCREMENTBY value is 1, and there are two source RAC nodes, the target highwater value should be at least 80:
40 + (20*1*2) <80
If the target highwater value is less than 80, GoldenGate updates the sequence to increase the highwater value, so that the target remains ahead of the source. To get the current highwater value, perform this query:

- Can I set-up OGG to synchronize only a subset of tables within a schema ? (for ex: 10 tables out of 50 tables in a schema)
- Once the synchronization is set-up after the Initial Load, can the synchronization be paused (for few days) and then resumed again seamlessly ?

Yes, the TABLE option in the extract needs to specify the table name (not a wildcard ( * )). The replecat needs to be done the same way.
Example:
--Extract--
TABLE <SCHEMA>.<TABLE_NAME>
--Replicat--
MAP <SCHEMA>.<TABLE_NAME>, TARGET <SCHEMA>.<TABLE_NAME>

Once the initial load is done, you can turn off the replicat for a few days. Only thing is that you need to make sure you have space for the trail files that will be generated and access to any backups/archive logs that you may need later. -

We are trying to decide the use of Golden Gate in our project, but I have not been able to determine if our database and OS are compatible and supported.
We have IBM DB2 UDB v.8 with Z/OS 1.11
I have downloaded the Certification matrix (http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/middleware/data-integration/goldengate1111-cert-matrix-349179.xls) and I did not see any Z/OS version, but I have seen some presentations that say that OGG can run in a Z/OS with DB2.
¿Anybody can help me find information?

Actualy Oraclle had published some version after 11.2.1.0.5?

I got a solution for this
when i was typing ggsci from the command prompt( I am using RHEL 4, and I was not in the directory where the golden gate binary files were there)
I was getting the error :
[oracle@dbsrv1 ggs]$ ggsci
Oracle GoldenGate Command Interpreter for Oracle
Version 10.4.0.19 Build 002
Linux, x64, 64bit (optimized), Oracle 10 on Sep 22 2009 14:18:08

so i moved to the directory where the golden gate binaries were extracted and user the command there, the executable ggsci was there so i have run
./ggsci
and I was successfully able to login
[oracle@dbsrv1 goldengate]$ ggsci
Oracle GoldenGate Command Interpreter for Oracle
Version 10.4.0.19 Build 002
Linux, x64, 64bit (optimized), Oracle 10 on Sep 22 2009 14:18:08

Successfully logged into database.

so directly run the command from the directory where the executable is there, you will not get the error -
Golden gate monitoring script for struck processess
Hi Folks,
The requirement is to get an email if any of the golden gate process struck on particular RBA for long time, even there are many tails file to be replicated.
The status of the process is running and there is no lag.

Of course, you can use GoldenGate "monitor" (part of the GG "management pack"), which has this functionality. Optionally, if you're already using EM, use GG monitor + EM integration. See: Management Pack for Oracle GoldenGate
Otherwise, you have other options: query the status of running processes using ggsci; or, configure GG to write reports (to dirrpt/{name}.rpt) with the info you need; and/or generate warning messages (to ggserr.log), and periodically parse these files for the relevant info. See the GG Admin guide, "Monitoring Oracle GoldenGate Processing".
As an example using ggsci from a script:
$ echo 'info myextr showch' | ./ggsci | egrep 'Checkpoint|RBA'
Checkpoint Lag 1:24:07 (updated 00:00:07 ago)
Log Read Checkpoint File dirdat/tc000000
2014-01-23 06:14:41.000000 RBA 4338

Although, configuring GG to report lag warnings, and then using scripts to monitor ggserr.log would be simpler & more flexible. -
Monitoring tool for Oracle Golden gate

I am new to Oracle Golden gate. I did the setup for one way replication golden gate and wanted to monitor it for any alerts.
I am wondering if we have any tool to monitor the golden gate and send the alerts if any issues like OEM grid?
