Migration the db portion only to different server

Gurus,
Current configuration of EBiz application is
AIX 5.3 - Apps (11.5.10) + db (10.2.0.4) on the same server. The plan is to delink the database from the existing AIX server and migrate to different hardware so that database can be on a different server and apps can continue on the same server.
One of my friends suggested me to move the concurrent manager portion also to the db server (New server).
Does anyone buy that idea?

i Just had discussion with one of colleague,i believe you can archive it, but you can't use shared applications option, if you use diffrent os, we have setup that discoverer running on HP Unix and EBS 11i in Linux, I am not sure about diffrent OS for EBS configuration, what is current OS and what is new OS.

According to your description, When you move a database from one server that is running SQL Server to another server that is running SQL Server, a mismatch may occur between the security identification numbers (SIDs) of the logins in the master database
and the users in the user database. As other post, you can use the sp_change_users_login stored procedure to map SQL Server logins. Also , you can use the following statement after doing the restore database. It will
fix the mis-mapped SID inside the restored DB.
ALTER USER <username> WITH LOGIN = <username>

Migrate the document from database to Content Server

Dear All;
There is a ECC6 using for 5 years and I am setting up a External Content Server which link to this ECC6 server, from now on the new incoming documents like scanned document, email etc will save to Content Server.
However, for the past 5 years those old incoming documents that save in the ECC database, how can l migrate it to Content Server? In the past the document mostly save with GOS (generic object service) option.

from DMS point of view I would recommend you to see the reports DMS_KPRO_CONVERT and DMS_KPRO_CONVERT2 which can be used to transfer original files from older storage to KPRO storage logic.
If you want to move the originals from an archive or vault to a Content
Server, please use the DMS_KPRO_CONVERT and DMS_KPRO_CONVERT2 report I
would kindly ask you to see teh documentation on DMS_KPRO_CONVERT report
in transaction SE38, which explains the whole process and gives
necessary information.
This conversion program offers two possibilites:
- Complete migration:
The meta data of the document info record and the checked-in original
application files are migrated together. The checked-in original
application files are transported into the storage catgories.
- Step-by-step migration:
In the first step meta data is migrated. The original application files
remain in the old storage data. The migration of original application
files starts after you have processed the files with the integrated
viewer and checked them into a secure storage area.
I hope this information could be useful for you. Further I would
really recommend you to get in touch with your local consulting
organisation because this is a very critical and individual process.
To grant that the whole migration is done correctly I can only advise

Is it possible to mirror the BC database on a different server?

This may sound like a strange question.
I am working with a client in Italy to build a contest website. The rules in Italy state that the participant data must be held on a server in Italy - Alternatively if the data is held on a server outside of Italy they permit us to "mirror" the database on a server in Italy.
We are hsoting the BC website in the European data centre which is hosted in Dublin, Ireland.
Have you any suggestions on how I could mirror the database on a differnet (non BC) server?
All suggestions . comments are most welcome.

remove entries in FND_NODES for old servers
run AC
(Above steps do for DB tier then CM and then AdminTier - supposing admin and DB are diff nodes)

We have to discontinue a SAP Server as it is aging and on disk space. We are running SAP 4.7 SR1 1.00 in this server.

Thanks for your effort. But let me tell you the scenario in detail.
We have a server dl2kdv01. In this Server SAP R/3 4.7 SR1 100 IDES (Kernel 620)is running. Due to hardware problem and disk space problem management has decided to move this SAP System to a new Server dlwsdv10 where only Solution Manager is running. Ours is a Dev. env. SAP systems are running on Windows 2003 Server with Oracle 9.2 DB.
Now as I cannot find R/3 4.7 SR1 200 IDES. So I have downloaded R/3 4.7 SR1 2.00 IDES (Kernel 640).
Now my question is,
1. If I install the downloaded version than how I will add the database of old SAP to the new one.
Whether I have use transport client method or any other system. I need full step-by-step procedure.
2. Whether all programs and adapters designed in the earlier version will fully compatible to the new SAP System.

Writing the files in different server

Hello
I am using oracle8i. I am converting the data into XML files. My company wants to
keep the converted XML files in different server. I am planning to use UTL file to
create the files. So UTL FILE would not write in another server. What is the
best way to solve this issue ?.
My option is
1. Create the XML files in Oracle server(using UTL FILE).
2. Write the batch script to move the files to another server.(can you give me a sample script for writing the batch file ?)
Is there any other alternate way to solve this problem ?.
I would appreicate if you could give me any other simplest way.

Is it possible to manually setup a Folder Redirection Policy on SBS 2008 for one user? Also are you able to set up folder redirection on a different server than you have SBS 2008 on?

User setting can be found:
Windows SBS Console > Shared Folders and Web Sites > Shared Folders - in Tasks panel click on Redirect folders for user accounts to the server.
Under Folder Names Select folder(s) you want to redirect (e.g. Documents).

How can i Migrate a database from DB2 to SQL Server 2008r2.

Kindly help me letting me know the process for migrating the database from DB2 to SQL Server.
1) Is there any way to migrate a database from DB2 to SqlServer. (My assumption is we can not migrate database, if wrong correct me gurus).
2) Or we can only transfer data from that DB2 database to SQL Server (Using SSIS packages).

You can do an easier installation by only using base release of 10.1.2.0.2. What I stated would be good practice:
By * DB 10.2.0.3 ---- > u mean (Database Version) => Yes, use Database version 10.2.0.3
By * Identity Management 10.1.4.0.1 (OID/SSO) -----> u mean (Application Server infrastructure) => Yes, use Identity Management 10.1.4.0.1 instead of the infrastructure on Application Server 10.1.2.0.2
By * Application Server 10.1.2.0.2 -----> u mean (Middle Tire Forms&Report Services) => Yes, use Application Server 10.1.2.0.2 as middle-tier. When installed, upgrade it to 10.1.2.2 (with the latest patchset)
By * Patch Application Server DB client to 10.1.0.5 ----> u mean what? => Before you upgrade AS to 10.1.2.2 it's mandatory to upgrade the Database client software in the Application Server 10.1.2.0.2 home to 10.1.0.5. Default is 10.1.4. You'll see database client version by for instance starting SQL*Plus.
For your Developer (Forms) upgrade: Forms 4.0/4.5 - 6i -> 10g. See: http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/forms/htdocs/upgrade/index.html. If you have tons of Forms, then I recommend using a tool like the great PITTS.CON (http://www.pitss.com/en/pcon/index.htm).

I could pass the database logon in Reports with subreports but the reports with subreports with different server name I can not pass the logon information . Do you have any idea how I can do that to pass the database logon with different database or server name ?

You can use the Subreports collection of the ReportDocument object to access all the subreports in your main report. These are returned as ReportDocument objects. Once you have your subreport as a ReportDocument you can loop through your Tables collection and set the ConnectionProperties to your appropriate Server/Database. How can I move the distribution database to a new server?

I need to migrate an old distribution database to a new VM. My understanding is that you can detach/attach the distribution DB to make this easier. What are the 'gotchas' in this process? Do I need the detach/attach the system databases as well? The distributor
is facilitating data from Oracle to SQL Server.
Another question.. what are some good benchmarks for figuring out how much horsepower I should have set up in my VM that running distribution?

As your description, you want to migrate the distribution database to a new server. Based on my research, you need to remove the replication, create the distribution on the new server, and recreate publication and subscription according to Satish's post.
So you don’t need to detach or attach the distribution database or system databases.
To make this process simple, you could use SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS) to generate scripts and run the scripts to recreate publications and subscriptions or drop publications and subscriptions as the screenshot below. Checking ‘To create or enable the
components’ generates the script for creating the publications and subscriptions, and Checking ‘To drop or disable the components’ generates the script for dropping the publications and subscriptions.
Firstly, please use SSMS to generate the script which is used to create publications and subscriptions.
1.Connect to Publisher, or Subscriber in SSMS, and then expand the server node.
2.Right-click the Replication folder, and then click Generate Scripts.
3.In the Generate SQL Script dialog box, check ‘To create or enable the components’.
4.Click Script to File.
5.Enter a file name in the Script File Location dialog box, and then click Save. A status message is displayed.
6.Click OK, and then click Close. For more information about the process, please refer to the article:

Secondly, follow the steps above, check ‘To drop or disable the components’ to generate the script used to drop publications and subscriptions. Then run the sript to drop publications and subscriptions.
Thirdly, please disable distribution using Transact-SQL or SSMS following the steps in the article:

Fourthly, please create the distribution at the new server using Transact-SQL or SSMS following the steps in the article:

Unable to create dataset against OLAP Cube from different server

Hi guys,
If I load Microsoft SQL Report Builder on the BI Server, I am able to create a dataset against the OLAP Cube I created on the BI Server, however if I try to run the Report Builder from a different server I get the following error:
"Unable to connect to data source 'MyOLAPCube'.
A connection attempt failed because the connected party did not properly respond after a period of time, or established connection failed because connected host has failed to respond 172.20.112.82:2382
A connection cannot be made to redirector. Ensure that 'SQL Browser' service is running."
I have had no issues starting the SQL Browser service, however if I try to run it in console mode, I get the following error:
'SQLBrowser: Warning: failed starting OLAP redirection services with error 1.'
I have checked online and seen a few similar issues online however I haven't been able to resolve my issue with their resolution.
Any help is appreciated.

Yeah there is a firewall running on both servers, however I had opened port 2383 and was still unable to make a connection. It is using a named instance on the server (servername/instancename) and it is configured to use port 0, so I therefore assume
it should be using port 2383 by default? Or as it's a named instance, is the default port 2382? Maybe it would be better to configure it to use a specific port and open the port on the firewall?

Named instances use dynamic port assignments. As the discovery service for Analysis Services, SQL Server Browser service listens on TCP port 2382 and redirects the connection request to the port currently used by Analysis Services.
So you can open the port 2382 for Named Analysis Services Instance remote connect.
