Migration via wireless network

The migration assistant on the iMac I'm trying to migrate from (B) recognises the MacBook I'm trying to migrate to (A) but when I input the passcode from A into B it spends ages "searching for other computers" and then eventually gives me the boxes for the passcode again. Eventually the MA on Mac A tells me that the network connection has failed.
I'd like to resolve this but would I be better off using a firewire, although I will have to buy a 400/800 connector?

Thanks very much for your response. I've accessed the document you noted and installed the 'Sharing Setup' software (although Spotlight seems unable to locate it).
I tried Migration Assistant again on the wireless network, but it is still not working. On the source computer my destination Mac is recognised and I'm asked for the passcode. Having inputted the code I get the message "Preparing for information" and then it reverts to the passcode page again (still recognising the other computer). When I input the code again I get the message "Searching for other computers", which continues ad infinitum.
I'm looking to get the 400/800 firewire connector I need tomorrow, but presumably I will still have the same problem with MA?

  • HT3231 How long migrate via wireless network?

How long does it normally take to migrate all data from one Mac to another via a wireless network?

It may, depending on the configuration of your Network Preferences.
If you're about to give up on wireless anyway, try plugging in the cable and then turn off AirPort by clicking one of the computer's WiFi menus and selecting "Turn Wi-Fi Off". Migration Assistant will probably pause for a moment or two, after which it will either continue at a faster rate or simply give up. In the latter case you will have to start it again.
When you do leave Wi-Fi "off" to ensure it uses the wired connection.

  • Connecting MacBook to printer via wireless network

I have a wireless network via cable modem with some PCs attached and a printer but am having trouble connecting my new MacBook to the HP LaserJet 2100 printer via wireless. I do not have airport express and not sure I need it to have the MacBook print to this printer. Please advise.

    Hi topgunner,
How is the printer connected? Are you trying to share it via a PC through wireless? Or is it connected directly to a router/hub that is enabled for printer sharing?

  • Laserjet 200 will print via wireless direct but intermittently (once) via wireless network

Tried various troubleshooters on Hp and Apple websites to get this working consistently.
Installed new drivers for OSX Yosemite 10.10 - thought all would work fine as went through installing, printing test page etc.  Then printer becomes unavailable - although it is on the list of printers.
Same thing has happened variuos times after re-installing it.
Will print directly via USB and wireless direct - but I want to print via the wireless network.
tried all the usual things - making sure on the right wireless network, restarting everything etc.
Using an airport router - are there some settings on this that may be causing an issue - odd though as will print once when initially connected to the wireless network.
    Any ideas?

    Hi @iphonebore,
    Welcome to the HP Forums!
I understand that your HP Laserjet 200 M267NW will not stay connected to your wireless network running Mac OS X 10.10. I am sorry to hear this, but happy to help!
    Please see the following guides:
'Printer is offline' Message Displays on the Computer and the HP Printer Will Not Print. (Follow the steps for Mac OS X 10.7, and 10.8, as they will work on 10.10.)
Printer Does Not Maintain a Wireless Connection. (This will help you with maintaining the wireless connection.)
As well, please see this post, Incoming and Outgoing Printer Ports, by @VisionAiry, and verify that none of these ports are being blocked by your router.

  • Can print via usb, but not via wireless network

My new MacBook Pro prints to my Epson RX500 when the printer is connected via USB to the MBP. However, when the the printer is connected by USB to my desktop PC running XP, the MBP does not print to it. I can see disks and transfer files wirelessly among desktop PC, laptop PC & MBP. The MBP finds the RX500 on the network, and has a driver for it. I can set it as the Mac's default printer. When I print, say from OpenOffice or TextEdit, the dialogs seem ok. Sometimes I see the print queue icon wink in and out on the dock. But the document doesn't get printed. The desktop says the printer is shared, and I can print over the wireless network from my PC laptop running XP.
One of the Apple troubleshooting pages suggests that I should have the same driver version on my XP desktop and my Snow Leopard MBP. I don't know how to tell what version the PC is running.
    Any suggestions?

Just to be sure - you know that you can't use Epson's "USB-only" driver for printing to a Windows-shared printer?
You must use the Gutenprint driver - that's why Apple included the Gutenprint drivers in OS X.

  • Connecting to Windows Computer via wireless network (Password issue)

I have a wireless network set up at my house, and we all can see each other's shared computers, and the windows machines can connect to each other without a problem.. but my Mac cannot connect to them, but they can connect to me. When I goto "Connect to Server" it asks me for a username and password for the windows machine.. I don't know what to do from here!!! Please help, thanks a bunch

In your Sharing panel, did you go into "Options" and check the box for sharing via SMB?
Then from XP you should be able to reach the Mac via //(ip# or DNS name)/
and you should see the available shares.

  • Can't connect PC and Mac to print via wireless network

I have the HP Office Jet All-In-One 6500. I've never been able to get both my Mac and PC to print wirelessly.
First, Mac worked fine wirelessly, then had to print via ethernet for PC. Then that quit working for PC. So I uninstalled printer drivers on PC, reinstalled and it works great printing via the network.
However, now my Mac -- my main computer -- wont print. It spends hours "connecting....." MacBook running Leopard OS 10.5.8.
Why can't both computers access this printer over the same wireless network? Absolutely NO settings were changed on my Mac from the time it worked, until now. Only thing I did was get the PC to work.
I've tried turning the printer off and restarting.... didn't help.
I bought this wireless printer so that both computers could use 1 printer.... I don't want to have 2 printers for my little office! Please help HP!

First, please look on the label underneath the router and let us know the exact model and hardware version of the router. Also check which firmware you are running on the router at http://192.168.1.1/ and verify that you are actually running the most current firmware. You can find out which is the newest firmware on the downloads page of the linksys website.
Second, is it possible that you used the Mac before to connect directly to the internet without the router? In that case it could well be possible that the Mac is still doing so, connecting to the internet itself, bypassing the router and thus terminating whatever internet connection the router established before (which the PCs were using).
Third, after being kicked out, please check the following in a command prompt window on the PCs ("Run..." and enter "cmd"). "ping 192.168.1.1" you should still get replies.
Fourth, what is the IP address and gateway address which the Mac gets when getting online?

  • Possible to Scan via Wireless Network?

Is it possible to add a flatbed scanner via an Airport wireless network? I have my Airport network set up and I am able to print wirelessly. The printer is an Epson all-in-one (Stylus Photo RX 500) so it includes a scanner. I can scan when hooked directly into the computer via USB but I have not been able to do so wirelessly. Is there a way to set this up, or am I limited to wireless printing only?
    Any thoughts would be appreciated.

We have a cable modem that is currently set up to provide a LAN to a PC and desktop mac via ethernet. We recently purchased a laptop with airport extreme. Instead of stringing new cable and to give complete mobility with laptop, thought to set up a wireless netwrork, and bought a netgear wireless modem.
I not quite sure I understand your current network configuration as you described it. What is the make/model of your cable modem? ...and what is the model of your wireless Netgear router?
If I understand what you're trying to achieve, then your network configuration should be something like the following:
Cable modem > (Ethernet cable) > [Internet port] Wireless Netgear router [LAN port #1] > (Ethernet cable) > [Ethernet port] PC, AND
[LAN port #2] > (Ethernet cable) > [Ethernet port] Desktop Mac, AND
    (wireless) > wireless computer(s)
I tried to dial in to the netgear wirelessly, but kept comin gup against dead ends between not finding a netwrok, etc.
Do you mean you tried to access the Netgear's web-based administration pages to set it up?

  • Hp v40 on xp desktop and is shared via wireless network. laptop with windows 7 wont print on v40.

Can't print from laptop (windows 7) via wireless router .to desktop (windows xp) with usb attached HP v40 all in one.
    Laptop (7) ----- wireless router ----- desktop (xp) - -usb-- HPv40
Worked when laptop was running xp.
Laptop spools print job to desktop and seemingly completes, but the desktop simply ignores the print job.
    No error messages.
printing from the desktop work just fine.
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

I am reporting this as solved. I submitted this problem. The problem started when updated my laptop from Windows XP to Windows 7. When I did, The Lexmark printer on my desktop worked find with the new laptop system. The HP V40 did not work. The Desktop simply received each print job submitted from the Laptop (via a wireless local network) and discarded it. I could see the print job come into the V40 print queue and could see it disappear.
Here is what I did to solve the problem:
I tried a dozen or so combinations of removing and installing the printer on both my Windows 7 laptop and my Windowx XP desktop (with the V40 attached via USB), and manually removing and installing print drivers on my desktop  PC, it finally works. What did I do? I have no idea, but I believe that manually removing the v40 drivers on the desktop was part of the solution. While viewing the available printers on my XP desktop, I clicked on File and one of the tabs led me to a place where I could remove drivers for each printer ( I just removed the ones for the V40).
Here is what I DID NOT DO:
I did not follow the advice of the HP support person that I contacted via the telephone. That advice was to reinstall Windows XP on my desktop. That clearly was not the problem when I spoke to him. But he would NOT listen to reason. Thankfully, I have enough PC knowledge to know that his advice bas bogus
I am pleased with the resulting availablilty of the V40 again.
I have no idea how to officially close this problem.
I would be happy to discuss this with anyone else who has a similar problem, but when I submitted this problem with my name and email address, the moderator removed my problem submission. Hence, I think anyone who wants to know more is out of luck.

  • HP Officejet Pro 8610 does not connect to laptop via wireless network

I have a new HP Officejet Pro 8610. It is connected wirelessly to my home network. My laptop, running Windows 7, is connected to the same network, but cannot find the printer. I have tried turning everything off and resetting the router, but still have the same issue - my laptop cannot find the printer.
I am able to email a document from my laptop to the printer using the printer's email address.
What can I do to get my laptop to find the printer on the wireless network?

    Hey!
This is an issue with your wireless, you either have to get your router looked at you are looking at relocating your printer and your router so they are closer together. If you are able to connect all of your devices to the network fine when you are in the same room; Call HP Technical Phone Support.
If you are in Canada or US call 800 474 6836, or you can Contact HP Worldwide.
HP printers generally have a 1 year warranty from their purchase date, you can verify the warranty using the following link if you would like; warranty check.
    I hope this helps.
    I worked for HP.

  • Using a printer via wireless network

I am new to MAC and am not quite sure what I'm doing with it yet! My question is how can I make my Mac book recognize my printer through my wireless network. I have 2 other PC's and a labtop in my home that all recognize each other and use the same printer. Is there a way to do this with my Mac or do I need the "airport" thing I keep reading about?

I'm also new to this Mac environment and I'm having the exact problem as you. I cannot install to my windows shared printer (Canon LBP3050). Hope somebody can explain a step by step guide to installing Windows Shared Printers. Tried this done that but nadaa.. Pleaaaseee advice.

  • Cannot print from Macbook Air to Lexmark x2650 on Windows XP via wireless network (Linksys e1550)

Unable to print from recently purchased Macbook Air via wireless router (Linksys e1550) that is connected Windows XP which is connected to Lexmark x2650 printer.  Macbook Air is connected to wireless router and able to access internet.  Windows XP printer is set-up for sharing and I am able to see and add printer from Macbook Air.  I have installed Lexmark 2600 series driver on Macbook Air.  Macbook Air sends print job to print queue and print job is released from queue but does not print on Lexmark printer connected to XP.  Any suggestions?

Hi Wade, and Welcome to the dicussions.
I think it's how the PC is setup and interpreting the Mac's drivers, should just pass them on I think, but here's a way to get most any Mac to print to most any printer on an XP machine...

  • C4750 Connection via wireless network to my Mac

My C4750 Photosmart Printer is connected to our home wireless network and the home PC can print to it no problem. I'm trying to set up my Mac to be able to print to it also when the Mac is connected to the same home wireless network.
From the System Preferences and Printer menu on the Mac, I can see the printer and can see it sitting "idle" and when I try printing a job it says "In Use" and the print job appears on the Printer icon with the "1" indicating it has one job waiting and it says "Connecting to Printer" but the print never starts.
    Any help would be appreciated.

    Hi MaciHawk,
I did some investigating and I found that no actual software and driver package is available for this operating system on your Mac.  We can try to check the Apple updates for anything new or we can try the HP Printer Drivers v3.0 for OS X.
Other than that, the only thing else we can do is upgrade the operating system on the Mac.
    Thanks for your time.

  • Copying itunes files via wireless network?

I'm trying to consolidate my PC's itunes library with the one on my recently purchased macbook. I am able to access and listen to the music through a wireless network (if itunes is open on both computers), but I'm confused as to how to add the shared files to my mac's library permanently. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

well this is what i did on my macbook to get it from my itunes.
In the findre menu select go and connect to server and enter your pc's ip address. It should come up and just enter the name on the other computer and password and u should be in.
Also remember to enable sharing in the system prefrences and select personal file sharing. And do what ever on ur pc to allow sharing.
    Hope this helps!

  • Migration Assistant not working with OS X Lion via Wireless Network?

Anybody know how to assist me here?
Basically, I have two iMacs on seperate floors of my home.  They are newer models (both purchased last year) and I have upgraded both of them to Lion and just ran a system update on both of them to ensure they are both running the exact same OS with updates and all.
When I attempt to use the migration assistant over my network, it just says its attempting to find the other computer but never moves past that step, as if they aren't connecting or even finding each other at all.
I'm relatively new to the mac family and am very happy I've finally made the switch last year and am still learning the in's and outs and am simply stuck here and not sure what to do to get this to work.
    Thank You

Try running software update to install 10.7.1.  This update reportedly fixes your issue.  Check out http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1437 for more information.
