Migration win2008r2 to new domain with ISCSI NAS

Hello
I need to move entire server from abc.com domain to zyz.com domain, but the server has an attached iscsi nas (maybe is a qnap).
the permission were done with windows not the nas GUI. I worries would be the permission being removed.
I will be using quest migration tool but still not feeling great about it.
what are my changes of losing permission or maybe needing to do the iscsi under windows.?
thank you

Hello,
this require the change to the other new forest with ADMT, free from Microsoft or other migration tools.
If the users, machines etc. are migrated and the trust is still available you can use robocopy for the data to migrate to the other domain.

  • OID/DAS migrate content to new install with a different realm - help

    Hi all.
    Need some advice.
We have a dev/test 9.0.4 (10gr1) apps environment that has a specific domain. However the PROD domain is different as the person who installed it couldn't work around the fact that the server had a different domain name than test/uat. So they put in place a Virtual Host.
I want to fix this as PROD is different to dev/uat.
    1) I believe this can be done using the OUI_HOSTNAME of the runInstaller option on a new install
    Can anyone confirm this ??
    2) Once I build a NEW 9.0.4 infrastructure/middle tier with the correct domain - how do I:
    a) Migrate users from "bad" domain to new infrastructure tier domain and maintain all SSO/privledges ?? Ldap export and import ??
    b) Migrate my content across => we are using oracle Portal and an OC4J instance. I assume I can do a 'portal export' from old install and import into new install ?? IS this valid ....... and then just re-deploy the "ear" file to new application server install ??
    many thanks on your advice

I figured out the answer shortly after posting my question:  I booted to new disk in the FW enclosure while attached to my MBP, and ran Migration Assistant, selecting to copy data from the (old) internal disk to "this mac".  I'll see how everything works six hours from now...

  • File opening throws RBS exception after migrating to a new farm with sql 2012

We have successfully migrated the SP 2010 -sql 2008 r2 wss_content to a new sp2010 farm with sql 2012. The old and new farms are configured for RBS - FIlestream.
In the new farm when tried opening a document we see the below exceptions in event viewer. The documents open fine for admin users and fail for others. I have verified all the permissions on the blob store file location and it looks good. Users have no
issue uploading new files over and below the set the file size limit.
Any suggestions on how to debug this would be great, do we need to rerun the .migrate() to realign any of the blob file references, we played around setting the max file size couple of times.

Migration - its a content db backup/restore/mount to new farm with sql 2012 from sql 2008 r2
Okie here are the results after we tried to narrow down the issue to few steps-
This issue happens on documents that are already existed in the content db prior to migration. we picked two docs from one library. DOC A and DOC B of close to same size..
DOC A - file size 64k, rbs max size set to 1mb.
Regular User and SPAdmin both can open fine, check out n check in successfully.
no entries made in event vwr of front end and DB server
DOC B - file size 64k, rbs max size set to 1mb
SPAdmin - can check out n open fine, but cannot check in back - file not available error
Regular User - cannot open the file - file not avialable at the url
Both users can view doc properties at lib level..
Errors found in event vwr of DB server -
"FILESTREAM file named with GUID '00311100-0000-51eb-f3a8-0b387bc5c5ce' that belongs to
FILESTREAM data file ID 0x10001 does not exist or cannot be opened."
    and
"The operating system returned the error '2(The system cannot find the file specified.)' while attempting 'FsDoHandler::CreateFile' on 'H:\Blob_Store\a06953ae-6f49-43b1-9c2d-fefb13bda9fe\1c581a4a-b450-4143-bc3d-8d419b49b0fb\0000eb20-000066ff-0002'
    at 'fstrman.cpp'(2075)."
I incline to believe that the references for documents in blob store could have been corrupted for some documents during the migration. Any new docs uploaded to content or to blob are all accessible fine.
I'm not sure running .migrate() will re align the blob file references? Any ideas on how to effectively get this resolved..

  • I have firefox sync setup in my laptop with firefox 3.6. I am migrating to a new laptop with firefox 4. How to import the synced entries from my old browser?

I have been using Sync plugin with my Firefox 3.6 installation. Now I am moving to a new laptop with Firefox 4. How do I import the synced entries from Firefox 3.6 to Firefox 4?

    Hi!
You have 2 options. If you decide to use Firefox Sync to do it, follow the instructions described here: [[How to sync Firefox settings between computers]]
The other option is to do it manually. To do so, you need to migrate the profile. Follow this steps: [[Backing up your information]]

  • Migrating to brand new machine with iTunes/iCloud in mind?

Okay all, this might not have been clarified yet by Apple, but here's my question:
I'm finally migrating from an iBook G4 to a MacBook Air as we speak. The vast majority of what's on the HDD on the iBook is music (40 some odd gigs!). The new machine has a 64 GIG HD, which was a very deliberate choice on my end, as I am a major Spotify user and was planning to really run with iCloud for my music needs.
Anyway, question is, does my music have to physically stay on my new HDD in order for iTunes to scan my library and give me availablity to it via the Cloud? For obvious reasons of storage limitations, I couldn't keep all of it on the MacBook just so that I could at some point stream it.
So does/will the Cloud constantly update and check back in with what I've still got physically on my main machine, or could I move it onto the new machine, have iTunes scan it, then move it off, rinse/repeat as necessary?
    Thoughts anyone?
    Thanks...

It would have been wiser to use the TM backup rather than your old machine. Also it would have been wiser to have followed the on-screen directions when the machine first started up in Setup Assistant. In short, let it work and finish, there is no method to speed it up. In the future to gain speed use faster connections such as Firewire, Ethernet or if you can Thunderbolt.
Also you may want to book mark and use Pondini's Lion or Mountain Lion Setup Assistant tips guide.

  • How to best migrate userdata to new machine with clean install

We currently run OS X Server 10.4 on a G4. It's about to give up the ghost, so we want to migrate/move the server to a G5. We could clone the drive, however, I think a clean install would be best to clear out any oddities that may have played a part in the servers demise.
Is it possible to do a clean install OS X server from onto a blank hard drive, i.e. not an upgrade install. And then migrate the importatn user data, passwords and other important settings etc?
Or will I have to recreate all users, passwords, shares etc?
Thanks in advance for any tips.

    Hi
Is it possible to do a clean install OS X server from onto
a blank hard drive, i.e. not an upgrade install. And then migrate
the importatn user data, passwords and other important settings etc?
Yes. Passwords don’t transfer over however. Its simple enough to force everyone to change their passwords at next login using Password Policies. If your user base is not that large you could always key them in.
On the old server unshare any share points first before copying over. I personally like to create a new enclosing (top-level) share point that is named the same on the new server and then copy over the folders/files within. Propagate permissions from there. If the shares are on a RAID or an external device then just unshare them and re-attach to the new server and proceed from there. Although not necessary its a good idea to restart the server after doing this especially if the volumes have also been ACL enabled which you should disable first.
Exporting and Importing Users and Groups from WGM is simple enough.
In Server Admin above the settings button for each service configured is the property list icon. You can drag this to the desktop or a memory stick and use these property lists to re-configure the new server. If you suspect that any oddities on the old server are down to a suspect service then don’t bother and re-do the service from scratch. If you are using internal DNS Services then I would also advise to redo this from scratch unless you are absolutely certain that there was nothing wrong with the service on the old server. The only plist that I would advise not to transfer over would be Open Directory if its anything other than Standalone. You can transfer over and re-locate the LDAP database if it is an OD Master but again if you suspect your original oddities stem from there then don’t bother. In my view unless you have absolutely never had a problem and you are not changing anything I would always start from Standalone and promote from there.

  • Proper way to migrate OS to new SSD with mSSD cache Intel RST installed ?

    Hi everyone,
    I have a laptop hp envy dv6 7300 CTO.
it has  750 GB SATA  with 32 GB  mSSD for Intel RST cache now.
Right now,  I am purchasing 500 GB SSD to upgrade my HDD so I guess I do not need intel RST to work with my new SSD.
I am not sure about how to disable intel RST cache properly (without damaging OS)
    I think
    1.  Backup my important data
    2.  Disable Intel RST in laptop BIOS  , just change from <enable> to <disable>  and hope system will resolve everything.
    3.  make sure system run in AHCI mode, check boot order
    4.  Boot to windows , make sure everything work fine (should see new 32 GB drive)   uninstall intel RST driver stuff.
    5.  Clone HDD to new SSD
    6.  install SSD to laptop   , set boot order
Am I correct about process ?

Erico has a guide on moving to SSD ,with several methods:

  • Migrate from Standard 2003 domain with seperate Exchange 2003 to SBS 2011 - possible? how-to?

    Hi there,
I am currently planning on replacing two servers (one server 2003 standard (DC) and one server 2003 standard with exchange 2003) with a single machine running SBS 2011.
I already did several migrations SBS 2003 to SBS 2011, SBS 2008 to SBS 2011 - and I am wondering if the same can be done from 2003 Standard with separate exchange server 2003 to a single SBS 2011. Technically I can see no reason why this shouldn't work -
but so far I have been unsuccessful in finding guidelines or at least some success-stories from other users.
Did anyone do something like that? Any caveats I have to be aware of? Or is it supposed to be flawless as the SBS to SBS migrations I did so far?

    Hi,
From the problem description, I understand that you would like to migrate Exchange server 2003 on Windows Server 2003 to SBS 2011.
At first, I would like to clarify one thing. Microsoft doesn’t have the official documentation towards this scenario. And Microsoft doesn’t
    recommend dealing with that.
I noticed that there are two servers in your organization. One is Windows server 2003 for DC; the other one is Exchange server 2003. So it can’t
be the same as the documentation (Migrate to Windows Small Business Server 2011 Standard from Windows Small Business Server
    2003).
I got your key point that you would like to know the detailed procedures (HOW TO). I suggest that you could visit the
SBSmigration.com to get further information you need. Since it’s not the Microsoft official method,
please do the test before your put it into your production environment.

  • Migrating To A New PC with Windows 7

I currently have a Dell laptop running Windows XP and PSE 6.  All of my photos are stored in a folder called My Pictures on a network attached drive designated as drive L:  I just received a new Dell laptop with Windows 7 64-bit and the network attached drive has already been configured to drive L: on that machine.  I would like to know, if I can just install PSE 6 on the new laptop and then copy the catalog folder from the old laptop to the same location on the new laptop.  I am hoping that if the drive assignments are the same and the folder structure is unchanged, then PSE on the new computer should have no trouble locating the files. I am hoping to avoid backing up and restoring the catalog and the files.
If there is a better strategy, I would like to know that before attempting this.
    Bob

Oh, sorry, I forgot about slide shows.  There's a bug in PSE 6 that requires the catalog folder to remain in the same path for all time.  If you try to move it, even with the File > Catalog > Move or Rename commands, the slide shows stop working.  (This was fixed in PSE 7.)
But in your situation, you can't easily put the catalog in the same place, because C:\Documents and Settings, though it exists in Windows 7, isn't accessible to users.
    Luckily, there is a workaround:
    1. Make a backup copy of the catalog.psedb file.
    2. In the Organizer, delete the slide shows from the catalog.
    3. In Windows Explorer, go to the catalog folder and find the "projects" subfolder, in which there will be one .psess file for each slide show.
    4. Dag each .psess file into the Organizer.

  • Migration of SCCM 2012 SP1 to SCCM 2012 R2 in a new domain.

I am wondering if it is possible to migrate objects from a SCCM 2012 SP1 server in one domain to a new SCCM 2012 R2 server in another domain ?
I read this article, but it does not state this particular combination.

    Thx
    Thomas

For Migrate from SCCM 2012 SP1 to SCCM 2012 R2 in same environment/Domain, it's support and applicable.
But migrate to new domain, it's not support. Also you can't migrate database for new domain or object. you will need to rebuild it.

  • New domain, Roaming Profiles, Outlook 2010 gives error 'Your Outlook data file cannot be configured'.

    Hi there,
I have recently setup a new domain, with a new domain controller and new exchange 2013 server.
these are running on a cluster of 2 x hyper-v 2012r2 hosts. All VMs are running server 2012 r2.
although I don't think that has any bearing on my issue.
I have migrated all of my existing user machines to the new domain.
    We use roaming profiles.
When a user logs into their PC for the first time, all is ok.
when a user logs into a different machine (they log off of their first machine and then log into a second machine),
they get the following error when opening outlook.
'Your Outlook data file cannot be configured. C:\Users\%username%.domain\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Outlook\[email protected]'
I can manually resolve this on each machine by doing one of the following.
    1. Before the user logs in, I log in as an administrator or browse to the pc from another machine create a folder in users called 'whatevertheuserssusernameis' (please note, I actually put in the user's username, ie OKIRWAN)
when the user then logs in, their profile is created in %username%.domain instead of %username%.
I believe this is the route of the problem, as when we added the new machines to the domain, and they logged in for the first time to their 'usual machine', there was already a folder in users with their username, so when we added to the new domain and logged
in for the first time, it created a new folder called %username%.domain, however when the user logs into a pc they never have logged into before, it creates their profile in %username% but their roaming profile is looking for their OST in C:\Users\%username%.domain\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Outlook\[email protected].
    2. My second way around this is to go to control panel and mail and remove and recreate the users outlook profile.
As I have 100 users, who move to various different machines, these manual options are not really viable.
I have tried redirecting the OST file to c:\OST via group policy, this did not resolve the issue.
All users are local admins on their machines.
if I open outlook as administrator then it loads ok and creates the OST file in C:\Users\%username%.domain\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Outlook\[email protected].
however if I close outlook and open it again without running as administrator I get the following error.
File access is denied. You do not have the permission required to access the file C:\Users\%username%.domain\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Outlook\[email protected]. (even administrators on that PC have full access to that folder).
All users are running outlook 2010.
Any help would be much appreciated.
    Kind Regards
    Owen
