Migration won't detect the iMAC..

Hello,
I see a lot of people are having problems once they have selected the files to migrate however I'm not even getting that far. Any ideas as to where am going wrong? I have a Dell Laptop (XP SP 3) and I want to move everything onto my spanking new MacbookPro (purchased today). The Migration assistant in the laptop (which doesn't open automatically after it's been downloaded BTW) opens and says it's waiting for the connection to the Mac, the progress scrolls but it finds nothing.. The Mac however sees the comp and gives me a code but the laptop doesn't ever get that far... They're on the same network (otherwise the mac wouldn't even see the comp right? and I've tried putting an ethernet connection between the two but still no progress)...
So, what should I do? (no technical jargon please :-))
Very frustrated..
Thank you!

Please read and follow the directions in Lion Setup Assistant tips. Because you have already started the iMac and used it I would recommend starting from "Second chance...."
Also I'm guessing you may be new to OS X. If that is correct I would recommend book marking and using:
Switch 101
Mac 101

I have a PowerBook G4 with a non-functioning monitor.  It used to work with an external monitor, but I reinstalled the OS, which cleared the display preferences and now when I restart it won't detect the external monitor. This means I can't use the computer anymore. How do I fix? I tried using the Command+F2 keyboard shortcut, but it doesnt' work.  It's possible that since I reinstalled the OS, it still needs to be set up, so there's only a welcome screen (but since I can't see it I'm not sure).

There is no limit to the number of times you can re-install Office on the same computer.

  • Won't detect the router.

    Hi,
I am trying to install a WRT54G model router. It goes through the setup and all the lights and everything else is correct but when the software tries to detect the router it always says the is cannot detect it.  I am able to access the router with 192.168.1.1  so the cables work, but i don' t know what to do at that stage.  My computer is running XP if this is an issue.  I have no experience with networks. This is my first time installing a router
    Thanks

•if you're running cable ISP go to MAC ADDRESS clone on the blue tab click enable and click clone your pc's mac - don't forget to save settings
•if you wanna personalize wireless settings go to wireless creat your own network name
•if you want a secured wireless network go to wireless security subtab on the blue bar - i suggest WEP encryption
•then last thing go to status tab and check if you have internet ip address , if yes power cycle modem and router for 1 minute check internet connection after
•if DSL who's the ISP? what's that brand of the modem?

  • Setup won't detect the router

Every time i run setup(on both my PCs), it won't recognzie the router. I have all the cables hooked up correctly, and even my USB adapter on my other PC is on the network. The problem is that one cannot access the internet. The router i bought is legal,i purchased it at Wal-Mart. Can someone here help me?

As you are using USB adapter on VISTA Operating System…..try to download the updated drivers ( If available) on http://linksys.com/vista  …..  remove the older drivers from programs & features in control panel….check if it works or not.

  • My iMac goes into sleep mode, won't come out until I unplug and replug the computer then hit the power button. Just hitting the power button alone won't restart the iMac.

My Imac goes into sleep mode but won't come out.  The keyboard/mouse won't rouse it and the power button won't do it either.  I have to unplug the computer, re-plug it in and then hit the power button.  Help?

I looked around the internet and found an old post that seems to have solved the problem.  I had a relatively new USB port (powered) that I unplugged and, ta da, the problem disappeared.  I'm not sure why this happens (I'm not a tech person) but it seems like this should have been worked out in testing somewhere.

  • Why can't I sync my facebook invitations to my iCal?  My Mac Mail won't detect the date/time on the email anymore.

I have been trying to sync my facebook invitations to my iCal and no longer able to do this through my Mac Mail.  When I would receive a facebook invitaiton through my comcast email, I used to be able to hover my mouse over the date/time of the invitation and then I could easily "Add to iCal" or "See Date in iCal", but am no longer able to do so.  I can still add other invitations, just not the facebook invitations.  Any ideas?

You can get your photos off your phone.  If they are all in Camera Roll just import them to your new computer (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4083).  If some of them were synced to your iphone from your computer (i.e., in photo library) just use an app like PhotoSync and send them to your new computer wirelessly.  For that matter, you can sync your phone with your new computer without losing your data and settings if you carefully follow this guide: https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-3141.  Your only issue will be non-purchased music on your phone which is not in your new iTunes library, which will require 3rd party software such as Touch Copy to transfer from your phone to iTunes (or you will have to rip you CDs again to import them).

  • My iPhone displays as available in my PC, but my PC won't detect the photos on it. How can I fix this?

    See title

    A couple of other possibilities:
The CD is dirty / damaged / suffering from "CD Rot" - sometimes CDs may seem to play fine on a CD player (or using the CD-player function of a PC) but will not transfer correctly to a computer - this is the result of the way that CD players auto-correct the datastream from the CD where PCs, when reading the audio CD as data, do not.
Enabling the error correction function in iTunes import may alleviate if not fully resolve this
Use an alternate tool to extract the audio from the CD - Exact Audio Copy is probably the best out there, as it can be configured to attempt multiple reads of every audio sample on a CD to get a consistent result.  Then import the resulting files into iTunes.
You don't say whether this is specific to one CD as in the original poster's case, but the "crackling" symptom has affected a significant number of users of the 64-bit version of iTunes 12.1.0.71 - these are mostly addressed in the most recent update (12.1.1.4), but if nothing else works it may be worth trying this alternative installer: iTunes 12.1.1 for Windows (64-bit — for older video cards)

  • My MBP won't detect a projector even when I reboot the system.

I can connect to a monitor, so I know the adapter and cable are working, and my old HP will connect to the projector so I know it's not the projector, but my MBP will not even detect that a projector is connected..  I have tried multiple projectors as well.  I am using a VGA cable with the apple adapter.  I have read old threads, but there doesn't seem to be anything recent, and it seems like people were able to find the projector after restarting the system.  I have tried all of the various displays sizes and colors; I have tried connecting the cables in various orders as one person said this worked for them, I have tried turning off the computer first, then connecting everything, I have tried connecting everything then restarting, but my computer just won't detect the projector(s).  Any thoughts?

You can ignore those instructions. Adobe has what I believe is an easier way to install Flash by using the manual installers. See the Adobe troubleshooting guide - http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/191/tn_19166.html#main_ManualInstaller

  • My computer won 't recognize the airport extreme base

I have an imac connected to the airpot extreme base and works fine, but both my powerbook and ibook won't detect the airport extreme base. I used to have an airport express and all three computers co-existed in harmony.
I've tried every setting and still the base goes undetected. The only way that the powerbook can detect the base is by going through the router, but can't go wireless. What am I doing wrong?

BarbQ, Welcome to the discussion area!
Try configuring the AirPort Extreme base station (AEBS) so that it is using a channel between 1 and 11.
Configure the AEBS so that the SSID (network name) IS broadcast.
As ALpianoman suggested, ensure that the AEBS is configured to work at 2.4 GHz and in an 802.11g compatible mode.

  • Computer won't detect audigy

    Greetings all:
I looked for a while in the forum, but did not find this question, so here goes:
I purchased an audigy 2zs platinum 0 months ago and had no problems until a month ago when I had to reformat and reinstall windows (one of my sata raid dri'ves died/fried). The windows install was on a new dri've, so there are no residual drivers from the previous install (to my knowledge - but I have tried to install it a few times now). Now windows xp home will not detect the audigy 2zs at all. It does detect the midi/game port on the card. I have also been able to use the firewire port on the card. It just won't detect the card, and I have had to revert to the onboard sound. It will only recognize the card as a "pci audi device" and not as a "audigy 2zs" like it did when I first bought it.
I like the zs, plus the front i/o bay is handy. Any thoughts on this problem? I have already tried a different pci slot with the same result. Is there a way to force the driver install? Is there a residual driver I am missing? Could the card be fried?
    Here is my setup:
p4(478) 2.8 ghz, asus p4p800 dlx, ati aiw 9800 pro, audigy 2zs platinum, old-fashioned ide ata hd for now.
    Thanks, Christopher

I think you may have misunderstood. If you do it that way and navigate to the windows CD then yes, it will install the windows driver. But i meant the Creative CD. If you install the basic CREATIVE card driver you should then be able to install all the other software. But the basic driver should sound no different than with the software except that the software allows you to EQ it and such.
Your problem as i understand is that windows DOES recognise there is a device there, but doesn't know where the driver is. So you need to manually navigate to the basic driver on the CD and once thats installed use the CD to install the software.
Also, i don't see why you can't just uninstall the unknown device in device manager, then without rebooting install from the creative CD as you normally would. In other words, the reason trying to install from the CD as normal isn't working right now is because of the unknown device in device manager. Some kind of conflict between that and windows knowing what to do with the CD install when you try that. So uninstalling the device first then doing a normal instal may also work.

  • Itunes won't detect ipod...

Hey all. I previously installed my ipod on my computer with all the software and it was working fine. It was working perfectly. I decided to return it to get a smaller version, but before I did that, I had to restore the factory settings. I later decided to keep the current ipod, but now itunes won't detect the ipod. I tried reinstalling the software numerous times and it didn't work. I also plugged it into a different usb port like the manual suggests but it still doesn't work. Can anyone please help? thanks.

Upgrading the Linksys Router's Firmware   Question  How do I upgrade the Linksys Router’s firmware?
Answer  The new firmware adds numerous functions to the router. To setup a Linksys router with a DSL connection you need to perform four steps:
    1. Downloading the Firmware
    2. Upgrading the Router’s Firmware
    3. Completing the Firmware Upgrade
    4. Completing the Firmware Upgrade Process
    Downloading the Firmware
    Step 1:
Before downloading the firmware, make sure your computer has an active Internet connection. If your computer is plugged directly into the router and cannot get online, disconnect your router and plug your computer directly into your cable or DSL modem.
    Step 2:
To go to the Linksys download page, click here and verify the model and version number of your Linksys product. For instructions, click the link How to find Model number.
    Step 3:
After obtaining the model number of the Linksys router, enter the model number in the Enter Model Number field, then click GO.
    Step 4:
Look for Locate Version Number and select the version of the Linksys product from the drop-down menu.
NOTE: In this example, we used WRT54G v.6. The Image may vary depending on the model number of the Linksys product.
    Step 5:
After selecting the version, scroll down and look for Downloads For The WRT54G then click Firmware to get the latest firmware.
    Step 6:
If you are using Windows XP Service Pack 2 (SP2) and Internet Explorer, you may see a “Pop-up blocked” message in your browser Information Bar.  Click the bar and select Temporarily Allow Pop-ups and click Firmware again.
    Step 7:
Click Save in the File Download dialog box that appears. Look for the  Save As dialog box, choose a location for the file like the Desktop and click Save. When the download is complete, click Close, if prompted.
NOTE: The name of the file may vary depending on the firmware file of your router.
    Step 8:
If the firmware file you have downloaded is on a zip format, double-click on the zip file and extract its contents to a single folder or to the Desktop.
NOTE: You will need to use a utility to open and extract files from the ZIP file archive. Popular software to use is WinZip®. To download WinZip®, visit http://www.winzip.com. You can also use the built-in unzipping features of Windows XP to unzip the contents from the archive.

  • Computer Won't Detect iPhone5?

    Hey,
I recently bought an iPhone5 and downloaded and installed iTunes etc. I installed all required updates.
Problem is, my computer won't detect the iPhone at all. I've tested my old phone and my computer picks that up just fine, but with the iPhone it doesn't find it at all. I'm not just referring to iTunes. It doesn't pick it up at all, as in it doesn't show underneath MyComputer or under Removable Devices.
    Can anyone help?
    Thanks,
    Greenation

I would call Apple or take it and its cable to an Apple store. It could be a bad cable, even if it charges, because there are 8 wires in the cable and only 2 are involved in charging. If you plan to take it to a store make a Genius Bar appointment first at http://concierge.apple.com/reservation/us/en/

  • ITunes won't detect updates

For some reason, my iTunes 10.4.1 won't detect the newest update for my iPod touch 3g (the current software is 4.2.1).  Please help!  I have already tried syncing and restoring.

My guess is that you really have a 2G iPod.  Those can only go as high as 4.2.1.  If yours is an 8 or 16 GB model it is surely a 2G since Apple only made 32 and 64 GB 3G iPods.  A 32 GB can be either a 2G or 3G.  To identify yours go to:
