Migration Workbench Installation
I am having a great deal of trouble installing Migration Workbench. I am running the enterprise version of 9i. I have downloaded the newest release of Workbench. I run through the installation process and am told that work bench has installed correctly.
When I run Workbench for the first time to create a repository I am told that no plugins have been installed and the process is aborted. When I try to install the Access plug-in I am told that Workbench is not installed!
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Hi,
The MS Access plugin should be installed into the same Oracle Home (directory) as the Oracle Migration Workbench. If not you will encounter the message 'No plugins installed'.

Problems With Auto Update of Migration Workbench.
I'm running v1.5.1 on MAC and am starting to look at migrating a MYSQL database to ORACLE.
I wanted to make sure I had the latest updates so I used the "Check for Updates" function, which showed there were two updates available.
Oracle Migration Workbench - Translation Core
Oracle Migration Workbench - Translation Sybase.
I'm not doing a Sybase conversion so figured I can leave that one alone.
I ticked the box beside the first option, and I got the following ERROR:
*An error occurred downloading updates. Click Back to return to the previous page and retry installation, or Cancel to close the wizard.
Seeing the URL, I thought I would try to download and install the zip file manually. I was able to download the zip file and save it to my local drive successfully.
However, when I try to install from a local file, I get the following error dialogue.
UNABLE TO INSTALL UPDATE
This update cannot be installed. It requires other extensions which are not installed, or which are installed but incompatible.
Extension: oracle.dbtools.migration
Req. Version: Min=11.1.1.54.44
Installed: Not Installed
After checking in the help About section, I see the following... I'm kind of at a loss for what to do next.
Thanks in advance.

I was able to Download Migration Workbench with no problem. The problem comes in during installation. According to the info on workbench, it specifies that you can migrate to 8i and/or 9i. Do you have a version of Migration workbench that will migrate Access and Sybase Apps to 8i?
We are using: Oracle 8.1.7 on Windows 2000
Error Message: "Oracle Migration Workbench 2.0.2.0.0 must be installed in Oracle 9.0.1 home"
ThanksWhat this message really means is the following:
If you have an Oracle9i installation you can install the Oracle Migration Workbench into that directory, OR you can create a new directory and associated Oracle Home and install it into that directory.
Therefore if you have Oracle8i, install the Oracle Migration Workbench into a new Oracle Home.
The Oracle Migration Workbench does support the migration of non-Oracle databases to Oracle8i and Oracle9i.
And yes we will be changing the message! :)
If you have any further problems post a message to the Oracle Migration Workbench forum.

Unable to Install Migration Workbench
Iam trying to install omwb_92012.exe on my machine.
It throws an error
"unable to install the oracle migration workbench into the specified directory"
and quits.
I have a oracle 8i home on my machine.Does this matter?
Please suggest!
Thanks in AdvanceYes, The latest version of Migration Workbench was built against 9iR2 and needs to be installed in a seperate home or a 9iR2 home. This should not be an issue, you can just specify a different home at install time via the Oracle installer.

Installing Oracle Migration workbench 1.2.2.2.0
I have Oracle 8.0.5 client and server installed on NT workstation 4 sp 5. I have oracle home pointing to this installation of Oracle. But when I use Oracle universal products installer to install this software I get message:
You should be in admin group of your local NT machine(which I am as I installed Oracle 8), or you do not have enough disk space( which I have almost 700 MB free) or you are pointing to incorrect oracle home. Please advise.
Thanks..
SumedhaOracle Migration Workbench 1.2.2.2.0 is based on Oracle 8.1.5
8.0.5 uses a very different oracle installer, please install the Orace Migration Workbench 1.2.2.2.0 in a seperate (new) Oracle Home.
You may need to do some sqlnet configuration so that the Oracle Migration Workbench can connect to the 8.0.5 database.
I hope that helps,

Hi,
We face an issue while migrating an SQL Server 2005 DB to Oracle 11.2. It fails during the process. I hope someone on the forum has seen this before and can give us some advice.
I use the latest version of SQL Developer with JRE included (3.2.20.09). The JDBC driver to connect to SQL Server 2005 is 1.2.0
Here are the steps we take in the Migration Workbench wizard:
I made an online extract of the SQL Server database.
Using the workbench in SQL Developer I created a migration repository in schema PDM_MIGRATION.
Next I start the migration, it captures the tables fine, but immediately after the start of the conversion I get a failed message without further explanations.
This is the content of the error xml:

Does anybody know what this error means and what steps we should take to continue the migration?
I see the PDM_MIGRATION.MIGR_FILTER is a type.
Many thanks in advance,
KrisHi Wolfgang,
Thanks for your reply.
This is how the type MIGR_FILTER looks like:
create or replace
TYPE MIGR_FILTER IS OBJECT (
FILTER_TYPE INTEGER, -- Filter Types are 0-> ALL, 1->NAMELIST, 2->WHERE CLAUSE, 3->OBJECTID LIST
OBJTYPE VARCHAR2(40),
OBJECTIDS OBJECTIDLIST,

WHERECLAUSE VARCHAR2(1000));
I think the repository user has the correct privileges. This is the overview of privileges it has:

After using BCP to collect metadata information on the source database, I tried to capture the source data model and got a "Capture aborted" message on the progress screen (even though then it appears a dialog window reporting "0 errors and 0 warnings", funny!). Down there is the error log OMWB generated. After reading some posts, I changed some columns of the OMWB dictionary that holds the source database name, but still got the same error. If someone can enlighten me on this toppic, I'd greatly appreciated it.
Here's the error log of OMWB:

Error when using Oracle Migration WorkBench (Sql Server 2k to Oracle 8i) -
A serious problem in Migration workbench - BUG!
When migrating a MS SQL Server 2000 database to Oracle
using Migration WOrkbench 2.0.2 I've run to a serious problem.
Capturing the source database went OK, then creating the
Oracle model started and it finished after some time, but -
after looking at the Oracle model pane I could see no
objects mapped!
SInce it looked almost impossible to get any technical
support I started to hack thru the Workbench repository
myself and found out that the objects were actually mapped,
but the user which owned them was not mapped to some reason.
Namely, when issuing the query
SELECT obj_owner, count(*) FROM om_obj_info GROUP BY obj_owner;
I saw most of the objects owned by the user named
'<DOMAIN>_Administrator' (that what was captured from MS SQL)
while the user mapped in the Oracle model was named simply
"Administrator". After updating manually the obj_owner
field for all those records with 'Administrator' I could
see the migrated objects on the Oracle Model pane.
However that way of doing the job seems rather owful for
me since I will be to perform migration many times for
individual objects - I want them to appear immediately, not
after hacking thru repository!
Who may help to find a GOOD workaround?
I may provide the export file of the Migration Workbench
repository if needed.Vitaly,
can you use the sp_changedbowner with the parameter "sa" if the database you are migrating is not already
owned by "sa". If this does not help you, please send the error.log file which can be found in the
%ORACLE_HOME%\Omwb\logs directory as well as a zipped version of the repository, if possible,
to [email protected] and we will be happy to investigate the problem further.
Regards,
Tom - Team OMWB. -
Migration Workbench hangs during 'Mapping Indices'
During the creation of an Oracle Model, Migration Workbench hangs after displaying the message 'Mapping Indices'. The problem can be reproduced with 100% reliability. The Migration Workbench task must be ended with Task Manager. The source is an SQL Server 7.0 database. Oracle is 8.1.7, Migration Workbench is 1.3.1.0.0 and the SQL Server option is 1.3.1.0.1. Any idea what the problem might be?
Hi Peter,
This sounds like it could be a bug.
Can you try the migration with a new repository first? If the problem persists then please e-mail [email protected] -
SQL Developer Migration Workbench - Migrate only one Database?
Hallo!
We want to use Oracle SQL Developer Migration Workbench Early Adopter for migrate some Databases from SQL 2000 to Oracle 10g R2 (on XP SP2 SQL Developer 1.1.2.25.79).
The first Database we can migrate to Oracle. The Loader files in OMW are better!
On next day the menu capture schema was not reachable ( gray) . What can we do?
Thanks.
MichaelMichael,
<p>Have you seen the Getting Started guide? It looks like you have just started and not taken the next step. Once you are connected to your repository, select the SQL Server connection and use the "Capture..." option in the context menu for that connection.

Migration Workbench for migrating IBM DB2 on OS/390 to Oracle 10Gon Solaris
Hi,
We are looking to migrate an IBM DB2 database on OS/390 onto Oracle 10G on SUN Solaris. Can anyone help us with a migration workbench toolkit for the same.
Regards,
Jagdish NarayananJagdish,
We don't currently support migration from DB2 on the OS/390 platform. If you need a solution now, you might investigate a solution from one of our migration partners like Ispirer: http://www.ispirer.com/products/

Oracle 10g Migration Workbench 10.1.0.4.0
Hai,
Could any of you explain me about Oracle 10g Migration Workbench 10.1.0.4.0
product and also about the features and usage of this project.
Thanks in advance.
A.Mohammed Rafi.Sandeep,
Have you used this user which holds the omwb repository before for a migration? When you connected the first itme, did you get a message, that the repository tables did not exist and would you like to create them?
Are you using the connected or disconnected source model load?

Oracle Migration Workbench download not working
I logged in to download the Migration Workbench, I was asked to complete a survey. I completed the survey, and then was taken to the download page. When I clicked on the link to download, I got an URL not found message. When I go back, it asks me to go through the whole process over again.
The link on the page was incorrect and I believe it was fixed. Please try these direct links:

Oracle SQL Developer vs Oracle SQL Developer Migration Workbench
Gurus,
Can anybody let me know what's the difference between Oracle SQL Developer vs Oracle SQL Developer Migration Workbench tools.
I am in the process of Migrating MS-Access Application to APEX. So the example says me to use Oracle SQL Developer Migration Workbench. Is this part of Oracle SQL Developer? If yes, I know SQL Developer is free.
If not is Oracle SQL Developer Migration Workbench if free?
Thanks and RegardsThank Oracle ;)
(well, it's the least they can do after you paid big $$$ for the database)
Regards,
K.
