Miix 3 - Removing recovery partition

I recently bought a Lenovo Miix 3 10 and would like to get some additional space by removing the recovery partition.I've created a new recovery on a USB-memory using the Create a Recovery Drive -tool but after it's completed, it does not ask me if I would like to delete the old one (which is odd because all guides say that this should happen). So is it safe to remove the recovery drive and how do I do so??

Are there any updates on this topic? Any official statement from Lenovo somewhere?I want to install Win 10 on that device as well and additional space would be great. Looking forward for any feedback. R

  • How to remove recovery partition of HP Pavilion X2 10

HP Pavilion X2 10 comes with a 32GB drive, like many other Windows 8 tables, and only 14GB is available to users. The free space is decreases as I install and save data to the device, and quickly reached 3GB to a level that machine start reising waring.
After making recovery media, I tried to remove the recovery partition, but I could not find the way. In Windows' Disk Management, I does not show an option 'Delete Volume' for the recovery partition. The official procedures with HP Recovery Manager did not work since there is not 'Advanced options'

Does anyone know how to remove a recovery partition in Windows 8 tablet devices?

You can't remove the recovery partition because it is necessary for WIMBoot. Basically, the recovery partition has a copy of the Windows image that it uses to boot the system. This is done to save disk space on the primary partition, but doesn't seem to help much on the Pavilion X2. If you try and remove it with a third-party utility, Windows will be unable to boot because it can no longer find the necessary system files. Here's an article about WIMBoot and how it works: http://www.howtogeek.com/196416/wimboot-explained-how-windows-can-now-fit-on-a-tiny-16-gb-drive/
The only solution I've found is deleting all partitions and installing a fresh copy of Windows 8.1 from a flash drive. This will create a traditional Windows installation, without WIMBoot. Note that this will still create a recovery partition, but it will be very small (less than 500mb in my case). My Pavilion X2 had about 20 gb of free space after installation, on a 29 gb primary partition. This is without any updates installed.
The real mystery here is why the "HP Support Agent" didn't know any of this, and essentially advised us to destroy our Windows installations. HP needs to train their support agents better.

  • Remove Recovery Partition from Vista T61

Yes, I want to remove the entire partiton so that I can ghost the image with ghost 11. As it is now ghost 11 fails on the restore once it hits the recovery partition. Our customers don't need the R&R partition so getting rid of it would be the easiest way around this in my experience. HP has a simple option to get rid of this but I see no such option on the T61.
    Thanks

Yes. I think this to be true. I no longer have the back up restore capability on my machine but it works just fine. I used FDISK and reformatted the drive and everything is fine. I got a virus that I think corrupted my boot information. That is how I had to learn so much about bringing this nice machine back up to speed.

  • Is it safe to remove recovery partition once USB recovery created?

I use hybrid SSD/HDD for a purpose of caching (Intel Rapid Storage Technology) - more than 30% of SSD is used for system recovery partition which I consider as useless waste of fast SSD resources.
Therefore, I would like to remove this recovery partition. I've already created USB recovery... is it enough and safe to be able to restore factory settings if things go wrong in a future?
    Thanks.

I don't have Toshiba machines here, but I routinely remove OEM recovery partitions after creating external recovery media.
We create full-disk backup daily and don't have much use for them anyway. (Use them only to test whether a problem stems from hardware or software.)

  • Unable to remove recovery partition

I have Win 8 on an acer notebook.  I've created a recovery disk on a memory stick and now I want to delete the recovery partition as I only have 32Gb  memory and want to recover the 6.5Gb used by the partition.  Trouble is, in the disk manager
right clicking on the partition only brings up  the help command.  I  clicked on the 'remove partition' message before creating the disk although it seemed to be already highlighted.  I have tried everything but can find no way of removing
or shrinking the partition.  Can you help?

  • Recovery Partition Miix 10 Tablet (IdeaPad)

    Hello
I cannot recovery my Miix 10. It always sais: recovery partition missing. I guess the preowner deleted this partition.
Can i download the recovery partition somewhere?
What are the correct steps to do a fresh factory default install (without the recovery partition)?
    Thanks

    Hi,
what you are asking for is definitely possible.
This simplictic free tool is designed to create backup image file from removable storage device like USB stick or memory card:
    http://sourceforge.net/projects/win32diskimager/
I haven't personally used win32diskimager to backup/restore my Miix2 recovery USB but had success with it in the past in other situations.
Other commercial alternatives could be for example Acronis Image or Symantec Ghost. Sadly otherwise great Macrium Reflect Free Edition can't be used for given task as it is intentionally crippled to not work with removable drives.
    EDIT: another suitable tool:

  • How can i completely remove the recovery partition?

Hi, i own an HP notebook model Pavilion 15-e070sl and i want to know how i can remove the recovery partition. I just performed a clean install from my System Recovery DVDs and i don't need the recovery partition anymore (since i got those DVDs), so i decided to delete it from the HP Recovery app; now the data has been deleted but i have a 17GB circa unallocated space on the disk, and i'd like to merge it with C to get some more space, but i don't know how to do it. I tried with thw windows disk management and i can't, i tried with easeus partition master but after moving those two little partitions before the unallocated space or even deleting them (see the pic http://img850.imageshack.us/img850/6928/1lge.png) i can't expand C: to get rid of the unallocated space.
    Any suggestion?
    This question was solved.

    Hi,
Assuming E: is the Recovery Partition. Please try:
Right-click Computer > Manage > Storage > Disk Management, then right-click the graphic of the E partition and select Delete. The partition returns to Unallocated for a Primary Partition or Free Space if it‘s a Logical Drive within an Extended Partition. Delete the partition if it is an Extended partition.
Now right-click the graphic of the C partition and select Extend.
Note: C and E must be sitting next to each other.
    Regards.

  • Recovery partition has been removed

    Hi sir
I recently purchased a HP pavilion g-1202 TX series, I have installed Windows 7 64-bit OS, I found that I had only single drive i.e. C: for use, thought of creating another partition and shrunk the C drive, after this I found that HP RECOVERY MANAGER SAYS "Recovery partition has been removed - the recovery media creation option is no longer available"
Then again I tried expanding the C: drive back to its old stage, even then I found the same error, Now how can I get back HP RECOVERY.? and create Recovery Partition?

if you havent created the recovery media already from your computer, there is only option to get media from HP.
contact HP to order Recovery media. in most countries you can order it online, else contact HP phone support.
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?cc=us&lc=en&docname=bph07143
if no  option to order media for your country, contact country HP support.
visit www.hp.com and select country from the left botttom. now select contact HP or connect with HP. reach support to get a set of recovery media to make your computer recover and work as factory install.
hope it helps. Good Luck !!!

  • Remove the Recovery Partition from an HP Stream 14-z010nr Laptop

I used the Recovery utility to create a recovery thumb drive.  I would like to remove the 7GB recovery partition from the 32 GB SSD on my machine.
    How do I do so?
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

A number of laptops and tablets from different manufacturers have the same problem.
    The usual reply is:
Use an SD/microSD for the extra storage.
    The slightly better reply is:
Install programs directly to the SD card by creating a folder on it called "Program Files" then just change the drive letter when installing.
But some software will not allow you to install to removeable media
    The best reply is:
    1) Create a new folder on C: called "MicroSD" or similar (your choice)
    2) Right-Click on "My Computer/This PC" icon and select Manage
    3) Select Disk Management
    4) Right-Click on your SD card (usually D and select Chang Drive Letter..
    5) Click the Add... button
    6) Choose "Mount in the following empty NTFS folder" and browse for your new folder
    7) Click OK
    8) Return to C: in Windows Explorer and find your new folder, which will now appear as a shortcut
    9) Right-Click and select properties
    10) de-select "Read only" and click OK
    11) Double-click the shortcut and create a new folder "Program Files". If you are on 64 bit windows create another called ("Program Files (x86)"
    12) You should now be able to see the "Program Files" folder if you open the D drive with Windows Explorer. This proves it works!
You can now install all and any software on your newly created folder, including all 10GB of Visual Studio 2013!

  • Removed Lion Recovery Partition!

I have removed the Lion Recovery partition and shat should I do now to get that back again?

Download Carbon Copy Cloner and WinClone 3
Get two blank external drives, make sure they are formatted GUID and OS X extended journaled in Disk Utility (actually check Winclone for their external drive format requirments for Windows)
Use CCC to clone the OS X partition to one external drive.
Use Winclone to clone the Windows Boot Camp partition to the other external drive.
    Disconnect all drives.
Now the problem is how to get Recovery HD back onto the machine.
If you upgraded 10.6 to 10.7/10.8, then hold option/alt and boot off the 10.6 disk, use it to erase the entire internal drive of everything, then install 10.6, upgrade to 10.6.8 and reinstall 10.7/10.8 from AppSore by option click on Purchases or whatever it uses, that will put the Recovery HD back on the machine.
If your machine came with 10.7 or 10.8, then hold the command option and r keys down and boot the machine on a fast Internet connection (Ethernet the router preferred) and this will load Internet Recovery from Apple's servers. Use Disk Utility there to erase the entire drive of everything and quit, then reinstall OS X from Apple's servers, it will recreate the Recovery HD partition that way, as it's assuming it's a new drive it's installing on.
When you have your machine in order, go to BootCamp and set up your partition again, then quit.
Hold the option/alt key down and boot off the OS X "CCC" clone you made, now use CCC to reverse clone OS X back onto the internal drive.
Connect the Winclone drive, run Winclone and clone that back onto your BootCamp partition.
When done, reboot and disconnect all drives, head to System Preferences > Startup Disk and set it to either OS X or BootCamp as the default boot. As you know if you change your mind to hold option key at boot to go to the other instead.
