Military Channels in HD?

Is it me or is there no Military HD channels? I see both Military channels on channels 125 & 126 but nothing in the HD range.
Koz

I don't think either one of those channels are available in HD

  • Did anyone else just lost a whole bunch of channels?

    Hello all,
I was just curious but  did anyone else just lose a bunch of channels. I live in the Columbia, Maryland area and as of today 1/6/2013 just noticed alot of channels went to subscription based.
    I lost the following:
    BBC America
    Nickolodeon 2
    Fox Movie Channel
    The Smithsonian Channel
    American Travel Channel
    Nat Geo Wild
    History Military Channel
I lost them without any warning and was curious if others had lost them as well. In the past we had lost the Funmation channel, ABC News, and CLOO. I was wondering if I had lost these channels because of a specific reason.

What package.  In the past many people who had earlier versions of the Extreme package lost these channels to match the current version of the package.  These may all be in the ultimate package, and some strangely are in prime and ultimate but not extreme.

  • Is the ATV right for my needs in home theatre

Ok, I am considering the ATV to go with a home theatre set up.
But, I have questions that I can't seem to find here.
The Tv networks, that ATV support, is lacking. Will there be more in the line-up in the future? I enjoy TLC, Military channel, History channel, Discovery etc.... I did not see them listed. Did I miss something?
If I don't need the Tv shows, rent/buy movies options, which don't seem to work very well by the looks of all the troubleshooting posts, will the airport express fulfill my music and photos streaming needs by using Front Row? Or is there more to the ATV that I am not seeing?
Also, is it better to hook the ATV to a receiver via HDMI or Digital optical-then HDMI from the receiver to the HDTV-thus letting the receiver do all the work versus going straight to the tv. Does one produce better sound and picture?
    Cheers

    Jolly Giant,
That comparison was extremely helpful. I have heard and read on many forums about the Mac Mini. I have read that the built in DVD player in the Mac, supports 1080P and 24 fps. So, by using the Mac Mini option, you don't necessarily need a blue ray player thus achieving the same results.
true. keep in mind, though, that you will need a keyboard and mouse to some extent to operate the mini. consider if you want those gadgets in your living room.
But, then I would have to run an ethernet cable internally from my computer to the tv, which is not a problem.
take a look @ powerline adaptors such as these.
With the ATV, I am concerned that the airport/wifi option will result in slow service. Is this true? I have Time Capsule as my router-which runs on N and not G band.
ATV is wireless n capable (so is the mini) and that should provide enough bandwidth to view HD content. both ATV and mini also have gigabit ethernet ports.
also, in my experience the difference between 720p and 1080p is hardly discernible for the average eye and it would take a real good TV set to be able to tell them apart.
personally, i like the mini to be my central media server because, once set up, i can put it somewhere in the house (don't even need a monitor attached - just use screen sharing) but i'd opt for the ATV in my living room every time.
so, it comes down to your preferences. ask ten people and you will probably get ten different answers.
whichever way you choose, you can't go wrong and that's the main thing.

  • Date and Time channels in Diadem files

I'm developing a tool to convert data files from or own format to Diadem data files format, producing a header (.dat) and a binary file (.r64).
From my source data files, I have to convert a date channel and a time channel. Is there a way to store such channels in binary format (in the .r64 file) ?
I got the GFS's pdf "Description of the Data formats and File set properties", but I didn't find any info about binary date or time channels.
    Thanks for help.

    Michel,
The starting point is 01.01.0000 at 00:00:00. This time/date is the value '0'. The DIAdem time channels will be accurate until at least 12/31/2078, starting at 10/15/1582. This is due to changes made to the Gregorian calendar made back in 1582 concerning leap years.
Today (04/18/2202) at 1:00:00 PM (13:00:00 military time) would be the value 6.31862676E+10. This number represents the number of seconds that have passed since 01.01.0000 at 00:00:00.
DIAdem provides two functions to convert numbers into time data and time data into numerical data. They are TTR (time to real) and RTT (real to time). The DIAdem help system contains additional information on how to use these functions.
Let me know if there is any additional information I ca
    n help you with.

We are in the military overseas in Japan. Is there anyway of being able to access our itunes account on our apple tv here?

It should be on systems (I believe on channel 683) before the tourney begins.  Check on Monday even if it doesn't show in the guide (try direct tuning the channel # since the guide sometimes lags channel adds).  Knowing Verizon though, no guarantees.

  • Request for the Mountain (MTN) Channel

I would suggest Verizon add the MTN channel to its channel lineup.  MTN sports coverage would be something that military personnel  in my area of the country (Northeast) would love to see on FIOS.  COMCAST has already added this channel.  Thanks.

  • New DVR Issues (First Run, Channel Switching, etc.)

I've spent the last 30 minutes trying to find answers through the search with no luck, so sorry if I missed something.
I recently switched to FIOS from RCN cable in New York.  I've gone through trying to setup my DVR and am running into issues and was hoping for some answers.
    1.  I setup two programs to record at 8PM, I was watching another channel at the time and only half paying attention.  Around 8:02 I noticed a message had popped up asking if I would like to switch channels to start recording.  I was expecting it to force it to switch like my old DVR, but in this case it didn't switch and I missed the first two minutes of one of the shows.  I typically leave my DVR on all day and just turn off the TV, this dual show handling will cause issues with that if I forget to turn off the DVR.  Is there a setting I can change that will force the DVR to choose one of the recording channels?
    2.  I setup all my recordings for "First Run" because I only want to see the new episodes.  One show I setup was The Daily Show on comedy central, which is shown weeknights at 11pm and repeated 3-4 times throughout the day.  My scheduled recordings is showing all these as planned recordings even though only the 11pm show is really "new".  Most of the shows I've setup are once a week so they aren't a problem, but this seems like it will quickly fill my DVR.  Any fixes?
    Thanks for the help.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

I came from RCN about a year ago.  Fios is different in several ways, not all of them desirable.  Here are several ways to get--and fix--unwanted recordings from a series recording setup.
    Some general principles.
Saving changes.  When you originally create a series with options, or if you go back to edit the options for an existing series, You MUST save the Series Options changes.  Pretty much everywhere else in the user interface, when you change an option, the change takes effect immediately--but not in Series Options.  Look at the Series Options window.  Look at the far right side.  There is a vertical "Save" bar, which you must navigate to and click OK on to actually save your changes.  Exiting the Series Options window without having first saved your changes loses all your attempted changes--immediately.
Default Series Options.  This is accessed  from [Menu]--DVR--Settings--Default Series Options.  This will bring up the series options that will automatically be applied to the creation of a NEW series. The options for every previously created series will not be affected by a subsequent modification of the Default Series Options.  You should set these options to the way you would like them to be for the majority of series recordings that you are likely to create.  Be sure to SAVE your changes.  This is what you will get when you select "Create Series Recording" from the Guide.  When creating a new series recording where you think that you may want options different from the default, select "Create Series with Options" instead.  Series Options can always be changed for any individual series set up later--but not for all series at once.
Non-series recordings.  With Fios you have no directly available options for these.  With RCN and most other DVRs, you can change the start and end times for individual episodes, including individual episodes that are also in a series.  With Fios, your workarounds are to create a series with options for a single program, then delete the series later;  change the series options if the program is already in a series, then undo the changes you made to the series options later; or schedule recordings of the preceding and/or following shows as needed.
And now, to the unwanted repeats.
First, make sure your series options for the specific series in question--and not just the series default options--include "First Run Only".  If not, fix that and SAVE.  Then check you results by viewing the current options using the Series Manager app under the DVR menu.
Second, and most annoying, the Guide can have repeat programs on your channel tagged as "New".  It happens.  Set the series option "Air Time" to "Selected Time".  To make this work correctly, you must have set up the original series recording after selecting the program in the Guide at the exact time of a first run showing (11pm, in your case), and not on a repeat entry in the Guide.  Then, even it The Daily Show is tagged as New for repeat showings, these will be ignored.
Third, another channel may air reruns of the program in your series recording, and the first showing of a rerun episode on the other channel may be tagged as "New".  These can be ignored in your series if you set the series option "Channel" to "Selected Channel".  Related to this, if there is both an SD and HD channel broadcasting you series program, you will record them both if the series option "Duplicates" is set to "Yes".  However, when the Channel option is set to "Selected Channel", the Duplicates Option is always effectively "No", regardless of what shows up on the options screen.
As for you missing two minutes,  I have sereral instances in which two programs start recording at the same time.  To the best of my recollection, whenever the warning message has appeared, ignoring it has not caused a loss of recording time.  You might have an older software version.  Newest is v.1.8.  Look at Menu--Settings--System Info.  Or, I might not have noticed the loss of minutes.  I regularly see up to a minute of previous programming at the start of a recording, or a few missing seconds at the beginning or end of a recording.  There are a lot of possibilities for that, but the DVR clock being incorrect is not one of them.  With RCN, the DVR clocks occasionally drifted off by as much as a minute and a half.

  • New .TV (pets, recipe, etc.) and Viacom channels not in zap2it or Tivo guides

So, it's been about a month since the new .tv channels came out and two days since the Viacom HD channels were introduced.  And zap2it.com, Tivo, etc. all still don't list ANY of the new channels in their programming guides.
I've opened cases with Tivo.  With Zap2it.  With Verizon.  Everyone points fingers saying it's the other's fault.
In the meantime, for the .TV channels that got added a while back, if you go to zap2it, or Tivo, you get "loor633" for channel name and "to be announced" for guide info for pets.tv.  You get "loor599" for Cars.tv.  You get "loor674" for MYDestination.tv.  Etc.
And for the Viacom channels, you also get nothing.  Just blank space with "to be announced" for programming info.
From what I understand, Verizon needs to tell Tribune that their channel lineup has changed.  And Tribune, Zap2it and Tivo all claim that Verizon hasn't done that.  Verizon, of course, is silent on the matter and the "fiber solutions center" says there is nothing they can do right now and that channel info for the .tv and Verizon channels might get added to online guides in a few MONTHS!?!?!?!?!?!?
Why does this seem to be a problem with Verizon's lineup and no one else's?  When I had Dish, Zap2it would have updated listings within 2 hours of new channel additions.  When I had Charter, both Zap2it and Tivo had channel guide info for new channels usually the day BEFORE the channel was added.  But Verizon doesn't seem to provide Tribune with new channel info / guide data at all.
Having had FIOS for less than two months, I'm not happy.  I'm almost certain the goal is for Verizon to get me to dump my lifetime Tivo service and instead pay them $15.99 for their DVR.  But trust me -- I'd rather go back to Charter first.

I do not understand why you folks are blaming Verizon for this. Please give me a moment to explain my theory.
First of all, I have been for a long time a very dissatisfied user of the FiOS Guide data. So dissatisfied that late last year I sent an email to Verizon's CEO expressing my dissatisfaction, and providing examples and pointers to various forum threads discussing the problem. I received maybe 4 or 5 phone calls about the issue, no resolution, but I was told the procedure for the FiOS Guide was this:
Each channel (say ESPN, whatever) develops the data, and sends it to FYI Television of Grand Prairie, TX (in the DFW area). FYI gathers the schedule info from all of the channel providers and once a day sends that data to Verizon. Verizon then inputs the data to the Guide and bingo, we see it, good or bad (lots and lots of bad IMO). I have no way to know if this is really the process, but this is the way it was explained and it makes sense to me.
Now, lets talk about one of the other guide providers for the Tivo or whatever. It seems to me that a very similar process would have to take place: channel to guide data collector to actual guide data provider (maybe the last two are one and the same?).
Now, where would Verizon be in this process for the other guide data providers? Seems to me nowhere, it should be the responsibility of the channel to notify the data provider that the channel is now on FiOS, what the channel name and number is, etc.
I am sure you will disagree with me, but where am I wrong? It seems to me you should be complaining to the channel providers, not Verizon.

  • Channel Guide Update - Questions & Concerns

In speaking with customer support this morning, it would appear that my only recourse for letting Verizon know that I don’t like the new Channel Guide is to make a post on the forums and this seems like the most applicable one.
To start, there was absolutely nothing wrong with the old channel guide and I can’t figure out what the new guide does better aside from possibly displaying 2 additional channels per page…at the cost of incorporating a GIANT active dvr UI (user interface), an awful color scheme and a PiP window in the channel guide that seems to have had its size reduced to about ¼ of the previous one.
Does anyone know if there’s a way to change the display back to the old style or at least something close to it? I only had 15 minutes to play around with it this morning before work, but the rest of the new display styles are even worse than the standard one and I was hoping there was another options section that I didn’t notice as far as the overall display goes.
For those of you who use the verizon DVR services, that display has also changed and I can only assume that it’s geared towards displaying commercials while we use the dvr functions b/c there’s no other reason for it to take up so much room on the screen at the moment.
The previous dvr display used to consist of a small horizontal bar across the bottom of the screen that displayed the basic channel info (channel #, name of the show, run time etc etc), showed you the speed at which it was rewinding or fast forwarding and the point in the show that you were currently watching. With the update, the DVR window is MASSIVE and it has to be taking up close to 1/3 of the screen when you hit the FF, RW or play button. However, even with the new giant dvr display, there’s nothing being utilized in the actual display and I have a feeling it’s going to be used for corporate commercials or simply advertising verizon on-demand programming.
The new channel guide is clearly slower than the old one too and as I said earlier, I just didn’t see anything that warranted the huge makeover and I have trouble understanding how this new version of the channel guide could’ve possibly been beta tested by anyone and wound up in this state.
I love the verizon internet speed and I’ve come to find that their customer service is excellent, but this change was possibly enough to make me drop the full package I currently utilize and simply maintain the internet going forward for the sake of accessing websites like hulu & netflix for my television needs.

Agreed.  The new guide format is slow, the text is difficult to read, but worst of all, you can only see a few channels at
a time when scrolling.  With hundreds of channels, you need to be able to glance at many channel listings quickly
on one screen, before quickly scrolling to the next screen.
I agree this is so bad that I will have to look at cable or satellite options if the old channel guide is not restored, at least
as an option.  It was great!   Why fix what isn't broken?  Or more to the point, why break something that was an asset
    to the service?
If FIOS tries to hold me to whatever the term of my contract period and penalizes me for dropping the service, my
position would be that the service provided by FIOS with the new channel guide is materially and adversely different from
what I signed up for, and this unilateral change on the part of Verizon voids my obligations under the deal.  But all
I really want is the option to return to the prior channel guide format.

  • Channel 0 deselection and JCSystem.makeTransientByteArray memory issues

    Hi,
I am writing an applet that should among other things generate HMAC-SHA1 value. However, JCDK 3.02 Classic edition RI does not support Signature.ALG_HMAC_SHA1. That is why I had to make my own HMAC-SHA1 based on MessageDigest.getInstance(MessageDigest.ALG_SHA,false)The problem is that when I transfer data to my HMAC-SHA1 function I create byte [] workbuffer = JCSystem.makeTransientByteArray((short)(blockLength + datalength), JCSystem.CLEAR_ON_DESELECT); inside of my HMAC-SHA1 function. I cannot do memory allocation in constructor since I don't know the data length in advance. This function works fine only the first time, on the second run the apllet runs out of memory.
From my MIDlet I call myConnection.close() to close the connection and deselect the applet before passing new data to applet for HMAC generation. But according to Security and Trust Services APIs for Java 2 Platform "the application selected on channel 0 is not deselected at the time the connection is closed but remains selected until a new connection is established on channel 0". So, the next time I open connection to my applet and pass data to HMAC-SHA1 I get throw_error(SYSTEMEXCEPT_NO_TRANSIENT_SPACE) from cref in the console window.
Is there anything I can do with this memory problem? How can I eventually deselect the applet to free the memory?
    //Aleksandr

    Argh! Poor card :-)
NEVER allocate memory outside of the constructor or initialization methods (called once then disabled)! Forget JavaCard 3, use 2.2 and remember you have 2KB RAM in all cards of these world. The 2MB-RAM/16MB-Flash cards simulated in the javacard SDK for netbeans exists only in the imagination of this spec creators.
Allocate a fixed size buffer and process data in blocks. The update() method is here for this purpose.
This is not java desktop, memory is more than scarce!
transient memory allocated with the TRANSIENT_DESELECT flag is allocated for every logical channels to allow implementing multi selectable applets with independent contexts.
transient memory allocated with the TRANSIENT_RESET flag is allocated once for every channels.

  • How do I find the digitizer for a channel?

I am trying to make a VI that is generic and is configured via a single config file.  The file currently lists all the physical channels along with other things like the name and red/yellow limits for each channel.  Currently, the sample rate is hard-coded in the VI but that should be in the config file too.  The issue is that there can be only one sample rate for a given DAC card, so it doesn't make sense (to me) to add a rate column for each channel in the config file (I think it would be misleading to the operator).  Instead, I'd like to create a task list that gives the name, DAC card, sample rate, and other parameters for each task.  Then I should be able to figure out which channel is on which DAC by looking at the physical channel name ("Dev1/ai0").  The problem is that SCXI conditioner cards show up in the device list just like PXI ADC cards.  The user could have named them anything in MAX, so I can't tell which ones are DAC cards.  Is there a property node trait for channels that can tell me what its digitizer card is?  I've looked around and can't see anything appropriate.
    Thanks.

    Hi,
I have attached a simple program that can extract the device details on a PC. The code only currently tells you what type of device you are querying. You can easily extend it to find out which device is the digitizer(M series/E Series). I have saved it in LV 8. Not sure which version you are using.

  • Looking for a simple app that can output 8 channels simultaneously.

    Hello esteemed audio community.
I have to create a little effect for an upcoming party. For this I have created the following audio tracks in Garage Band:
    - 4 separate audio channels (stereo front and stereo rear)
    - one mono combination of these four tracks (to drive a Light organ gizmo - makes the light flicker with the audio)
    - and finally two separate tracks with simple 1Khz pulses to trigger relays for a fog machine.
I now need to be able to play these 7 tracks simultaneously and send them to different amplifiers and relays. So I need two things: 1) a software that can play them and 2) a hardware interface that can take these 7 channels out of the computer and convert them to line levels analog signals.
I thought this would be pretty straight forward but it turns out that it is not, unless you want to throw $$$ at it which I really can't afford.
Software wise, unfortunately, GB can only output 2 audio channel at one time. So I need to find a little app that can offers multitrack output. Ideally it would some shareware thing that would allow me to load in up to 8 tracks saved from GB, adjust their individual levels and then output them.
Second issue is hardware. Here I have found the M-Audio 410 firewire. This box will take up to 10 audio "returns" and output them to analog. They can be found used for about $150. So I think this might work.
Budget for this setup is very limited, hopefully no more than $150. Quality does not have to be very high although a good bass response will be important for the effect. I don't need any recording. Only playback.
Would any one have any suggestion on how to best accomplish this? If this software does not exist, how complicated would it be to write it? Would Applescript be useful for this? All it needs to do is read 8 audio files (2 minutes max), allow me to adjust their level and output all 8 at the same time.
Thank you very much for any help.
    Bo

Ah. I'm surprised, but there we go.
    Have a look here ...
    http://jam.hitsquad.com/vocal/about2136.html
(courtesy of googling 'OSX free multitrack recording software')
Didn't have time to do more than skim, but 'Ardour' looked promising. Protools is the only one I've used, the full product is one of the industry standards, but the free 'lite' version listed here seems to be limited to 2 in/out as well.
Referring to your original post, I'd think trying to write or 'script' something would be a nightmare ... synchronisation of streams within something like Applescript would be a major issue, quite apart from anything else.

  • Would like to know which /beta/ I have from beta channel

About Firefox says (today) I have version 25.0, which is what it said when I had an update waiting. I then accepted the update, so I should have a version that is different than I had before, but About Firefox didn't change what it showed me.
At one time the About Firefox dialog did show us beta channel people which beta they had.
I looked at the "Troubleshooter" data posted with this question and I can't see how YOU (Firefox developer) can tell which beta I have.

I have a different version than I had before, so it's not as simple as "you still have [the beta of] Version 25". My question is similar to, "I had 25 dollars and some change, and then I found a penny, how much money do I have" and someone tells me I still have 25 dollars. It's not wrong, but it's not what I want to know. I want more precision.

  • Using a variable in communication channel

    Hi,
I have a lot of Communication Channels looking for files in the same directory. This directory's path will be changed soon and so I assume I'll have to change all my Communication Channels.
I was wondering whether there was a means of using a variable for the Source Directory in order to just have to change its value where it is defined and not every where it is used...

    Hi,
Is this a sender file adapter? or a receiver file adapter?
You can make a change / make the receiver file adapter's directory dynamic by setting the value during runtime in the mapping.
Use  this blog and the code in the blog to acheive this,
    /people/michal.krawczyk2/blog/2005/11/10/xi-the-same-filename-from-a-sender-to-a-receiver-file-adapter--sp14
Sender File adapter, I dont think this is possible.
