Milton Keynes / Bradwell Abbey Exchange / FTTP Tri...

Hello all.
I live in Broughton on the eastern edge of Milton Keynes, served by the Bradwell Abbey exchange.
I've read various reports of FTTP being trialled here instead of infinity.
At the moment I get a quite good-ish 3.5 - 4 mbps speed on a new estate.
I've contacted BT who have no information about any FTTP trial or if/when Inifnity is coming.
Here in MK, we don't have the option of Virgin Media, they run the old Cable TV system but it's not digital, so most have Sky, but for any broadband in MK, you need a BT phone line.
I've seen lists of exchanges due for Infinity (Stony Stratford, Wolverton, Newport Pagnell, Milton Keynes (Bletchley)) but not SMBA listed due to this FTTP trial.
Openreach vans are here there and everywhere in MK digging up beside the grid roads (phone lines follow the grid roads, reason why the lines are so long and alot of MK people get vast differences in speed).
In our new flat, there is an openreach faceplate (flat is 1 year old).
Anyone in BT or on this forum that can advise what is and what is planned to happen for those on the Bradwell Abbey exchange in MK as reliable informaion is more or less non-exisitant.
Thanks all

Actually, although my telephone number does not give an Infinity date on the BT site, I see there is a new(ish) section that lists Milton Keynes as getting Infinity around 30 September 2010.
On the www.bt.com/infinity site "How to get it" sub-section:
Follow the "when we're planning to come to your area here" link for South East.
http://www.productsandservices.bt.com/consumerProducts/displayTopic.do?topicId=29017#fiberMapConsume...
I will add that I read somewhere that when they refer to "Milton Keynes" on Exchange lists, they exclude Bradwell Abbey Exchange (code: SMBA, in Fishermead) as that is part of the FTTH trial. So:
- if you in MK but not on SMBA exchange, Sep/Oct 2010 may be when you get lucky.
- if you are on SMBA exchange, and possible outside the FTTH trial area (If that part turns out to be true), not sure what this will mean (like me, also Broughton)
One the subject of how much of SMBA will get FTTH, I read on of the BT/OpenReach public docs, that they intend to roll out FTTH to as much of SMBA as is practical (economical) possible. Still room to exclude the far reaches of MK, but I am hopeful.
"early summer" is here BT - get a move on!

  • Email Offering 100Mb Infinity Trial in Milton Keyn...

    Hi all
Today I received an email from BT offering access to the FTTP trial. I eagerly called the number and was told (not unexpectedly as I've been checking the Infinity checker regularly) that I can't get FTTP at my house.
I've read the FAQ's re: availability, but my neighbour's house which is physically attached to mine (which mine is an end of terrrace in Walnut Tree, Milton Keynes) can get it. So can my neighbours on the other side (not attached to my house).
In 2003, I took part in the 21CN fibre trials where BT tested speeds up to 10MB. What I don't understand is how I could have fibre back then, but not now?
The lady I spoke to earlier at BT was very helpful and genuinely sorry that she couldn't get me on the trial.  I'm on the Bradwell Abbey exchange which is enabled, but she said the problem was likely to be at my cabinet. She also said that there's nothing she can do and it's down to Openreach and unless they say the service is available, then I'm stuck on my 1.5Mb ADSL.
Now I know my cable goes a different route to my exchange than my neighbours as they were able to get ADSL long before I could. But surely my copper cables aren't involved with FTTP? I thought FTTP would involve new fibre cables going straight to my house? During the 2003 trials, the BT engineer accessed a BT man-hole cover immediately in front of my driveway and attached a box on the outside of my house. 10Mb in 2003 was heavenly!
I don't mind not being on the trial, but I'm really worried that I'll not be able to get Infinity even when it is launched as a full product in January 2012. If any BT guys are reading this, I'll happily swap everything to BT - tv, telephone, internet, etc if I can get Infinity. I'll happily kick Sky into touch
It's so frustrating that every house around me can get it, yet mine seems to have been excluded. If I'm never going to get fibre, I'd just like to understand the reasons why.
Any suggestions on what I can do? The key point is that I had fibre in 2003 - I'm really at a loss to understand why fibre may not be physically possible now?
    Thanks

    Hi all
    Thanks for the responses.
I have a BT manhole cover right outside my house and when I was on the 21CN trials back in 2003, the engineer did some work on that and routed the cable right up to my external wall where the master socket is and added the box.
I also guess the people I speak to in BT are reliant on what their pc tells them. The lady I spoke to last was the 2nd in about 4 weeks. Prior to that I got the same answer about 6 months ago. Could the information held on their database about my line be reliant on the distance to my exchange and therefore wrong in some way?
My delay in getting ADSL I think was down to technology advancements - my copper wires take a longer route (about 6.5km I think) than my neighbour's, so the noise levels on my line were too high. There's no aluminium on my line as far as I know.
As for the email, I'm guessing it looks like the standard email the earlier participants on the trial received - it said the trail ran until 31st December, was free etc etc.
I have no issue waiting for the full retail product as I've waited this long already. But it'e the reassurance that I will be able to get the service when it's released that I'm after

  • Aluminium cables in Milton Keynes

Im due to receive BT infinity in the near future and im  getting slightly concerned about that aluminium cabling in the Milton Keynes area, i was just wondering if anyone in the local area has BT infinity and have they experienced any problems!  I am in the Oldbrook area of MK1 Cheers

I think you will be served by Bradwell Abbey exchange which is a mix of FTTP & C, do you know which version your grid square has? BT class it as BT Infinity Option 3. I know over the road is FTTP which if it is you won't need to worry, the fibre will replace your aluminium all together.
You may find that you have your current WLR line is replaced and you move over to FVA & BB on a simultaneous provide so that your Openreach modem runs your phoneline and BB.

  • Video issues on A1286 MBP (denounced by Apple Milton Keynes)

    I have an MBP.
The problem is that the video appears garbled when going from full screen to minimised. I cannot press icons at all.
Apple store replaced my logic board as it had a fault but still I am having problems with video.
Apple store (Milton Keynes) say it's "not their problem" and they have turned me away (after spending £1600) on an MPB with the excuse that it's firmware related and they had seen it before but Apple dealt with it.  They said that Apple haven't acknowledge the fault on my model.
So I am left with a product that is not "fit for purpose" as there are video problems.
I dont care what is causing this.  I know its Apple's fault as I have booted it off one of their generic OS/drives and the problem is still there.
I am fed up with Apple now and the customer service at MILTON KEYNES store is a disgrace. So much so that I as a customer have had to contact Trading standards to investigate this case.
All I want is my Apple Mac Book Pro to function correctly.
    See screenshot here:
    http://i978.photobucket.com/albums/ae269/seanoturbo/Screenshot2011-02-26at150240 .png
To view you have to remove the space between the 0 and .png that Apples code keeps inserting.  They are doing this to stop spam I guess but it's simply a case of deleting the space between the . and 0 so its 0.png and not 0 .png

I've read your post five times now, looked at your screenshot three times, and I still can't make heads or tails of what your problem is, never mind suggest how to solve it. Can you explain clearly what isn't working as you expect? Your problem statement above ("The problem is that...") is completely opaque.

  • Is ipad2 wifi 3g 64mb have stock in Milton Keynes or London in white colour

Is it possible to get any supplier in London or Milton Keynes today with stock

User to user forum, no Apple here.
Since we have as much control over who receives iPad stock as you do, not much we can do for you.
    Call around and find out.

  • Thankyou Apple Milton Keynes! Dust under screen!

    Hi everyone!
I've never felt compelled to write on the forum before, but today is different!
Thought I would lighten the mood a little bit.
Over the past few days I have noticed several dust specks appearing under the screen of my 3g. I have had the phone since launch day and so far been delighted.
So today I booked an appointment at the Genius Bar at Milton Keynes, where I was treated very nicely, and walked out 10 minutes later with a brand new flawless device without any argument at all. All of the staff were very sympathetic and helpful. Not like any other phone company that will argue till the sun goes down that it's not their fault!
All in all, very impressed, and delighted with my perfect new iPhone 3g!
    Thanks for reading!

Funny... I've been compelled to write in these forums ever since I purchased my iPhone! Dust started collecting under my screen after a week, so I sent it back. Eager to please and with great enthusiasm, they replaced my iPhone immediately! with a refurbished phone that had a blown speaker...
Then I got a dropped call while talking to customer support. I'm so absolutely infuriated and on the edge that I can barely NOT kill everyone in sight. But at least I was nice to CS agent on the phone. That's good karma, right?

  • Exchange 2010 Trying to Deleting Database Mailbox(DB13), error database "DB13" has multiple copies on other servers. Must remove all copies from other servers

Help, not sure how to proceed via Powershell or EMC.
    Thanks!!

    Hi,
Please use this command to check the status information for copy of database “DB13”
    Get-MailboxDatabaseCopyStatus -Identity DB13
In the name field, we will know the copy stays on which server. Then use the following command to remove these copies.
    Remove-MailboxDatabaseCopy -Identity DB13\MBX -Confirm:$False
Use the EMC to remove a mailbox database copy:
In the console tree, navigate to Organization Configuration > Mailbox.
In the result pane, on the Database Management tab, select the mailbox database whose copy you want to remove.
In the work pane, on the Database Copies tab, right-click
the database copy that you want to remove, and then click Remove.
Click Yes to remove the database copy.
After removing these database copies, then try to delete this mailbox database.
    Best Regards.

  • FTTP trial in MK

I see that Openreach has been laying Fibre in and around my street on Kents Hill  in preperation for the start of the FTTP out of the Bradwell Abbey exchange.  I also hear that PlusNet has already got people signed up and are looking to start installations in the next 2 weeks.  So when is BT Broadband goind to start?

Don't know when BT Internet will start putting people on the Trial, but in the BT Community forum link below they confirmed they would (eventually). Sky and Zen are taking names, but Plusnet has their first trialist connection on Monday 12-July.
Here are a couple of good threads on the MK FTTP trial:

  • FTTP Trial For Flats.

If you are lucky enough to live in an FTTP area & live in a flat or apartment the below may be of some use to you. I saw the story in a local paper in Milton Keynes where the Bradwell Abbey exchange has FTTP. Not sure how you volunteer but I got on to the FTTP trial for houses early last year by registering an interest for Infinity on the BT website.

Great info, I remember reading this a while back but I lost the links

  • WHEN?! 0.1 mbps speed...

I like in Great Linford in MK which is cursed with some of the slowest speeds in the country due to the VERY old ALUMINIUM wiring.
We are currently with BT and at the moment my DL rate is 0.1 mbps.  I've never seen the speed about 0.5 for me.  This is actually ridiculous considering we're paying for a broadband speed but I have never seen Milton Keynes on any of the Infinity line-up.  I need to know if we're going to get Infinity and, if so...WHEN?!

One should never assume anything, but I assume you are on the Bradwell Abbey exchange which is in Fishermead. Some of that echange is FTTC enabled, although Bradwell Abbey is on the FTTP trial.
You would need to look around your area and see if any of the cabinets have been upgraded. I'm connected to the Milton Keynes exchange and live in Newton Longville, and Infinity went live in April. There is hope for you yet.

  • FTTC Delays, and Poor, Poor Service.

    Hey,
I live in Old Farm Park, Milton Keynes.
We were told last september that FTTC would be coming to our home in December 2010.
This date was pushed back to March 30th 2011 and as you can imagine we were extremely disappointed.
Just one week before activation, this date was further pushed back to June 30th 2011 and we were stunned.
Now, in April; houses 25 meters to my left are receiving over 32 Meg downloads.
Houses a mile to my right are receiving over 100 Meg downloads.
We are in the middle, receiving 0.9 Meg.
To add to this fustration, which is extreme.
    - We had no Internet for the entire two weeks from Christmas to New Year due to a faulty line.
    - It took (ongoing) 5 Months to fix, during which time the broadband cut off whenever the phone rung.
    - Whereby the speeds were constantly fluctuating between 0.05 and 0.9 Megs.
    - A Brand new line was installed which experienced exactly the same problems.
    - We have had over 10 BT Openreach Engineers to our house and they haven't improved our service
    - We are on the Business Broadband option (expecting a better service)
    - We have been paying over £40 per month.
    - We have had constant disappointment for over 3 years.
We are averaging at 0.9 Meg.
Despite living in a Modern Area, relatively populated with £££ to be made.
    How can this be justified?
    James.

I'm not sure, but is Old Farm Park served by Bradwell Abbey exchange??
If so then I think the delay in the FTTC is due to the current FTTH/P trials in the area. I know I have seen installs as far over as Walnut Tree so not sure if your area is covered or not. I understand the trial is due to finish by October 2011, but this date has been extended a few times already.
I think there are 400+ homes in the trial getting 40Mb+ depending on the various stages of the trials. Some are at 100Mb. You won't see any new cabs over this side of the city as most of it is in the ground, but the give away is little white boxes on the front of the houses near to the grey cable box.
