Mime-attachment problems on iOS 6.1.3

Hello all,
I have a problem with multiple iPads running iOS 6.1.3. that I can reproduce every time, and would like to verify whether anyone else can confirm that behavior.
Environment:
- Apple iPad 4th Generation, Wi-Fi, 32 GB
- Apple iPad 4th Generation, Wi-Fi + 3G, 64 GB
- both iPads run iOS 6.1.3
- open Outlook 2013 on local PC, select any two e-mails and click forward (those two e-mails will be added as attachments to new message ... extension .eml).
- add another attachment (e.g. pdf file) to that new message and send it to e-mail address of account that you configured in your iPad Mail app.
- open received e-mail through your iPad Mail app. Click "Download full message". When download completes, open "mime-attachment". Mail app crashes / closes.
What I've tried:
- turn on/off iPad (soft/hard (restart))
- removed e-mail account from iPad and added e-mail account again
- turned off all running applications, started Mail app ...
Multiple iPhones running iOS 6.1.3 successfully display "mime-attachment" from e-mails created in described way.
Thanks, MS

  • Email attachment problem on iOS 5.1

Since the update to ios 5.1 all attachments sent from my work email arrive on my iPad as Winmail.dat files.  This does not happen on my android phone (the same email has the File correctly attached and readable.  Furthermore, this problem did not exist prior to updating my iPad this weekend.

  • E-mail attachment problem of ios 4.3

I have the exchange 2010 mail account and recived by iPhone, everything okay before I upgrade the IOS to 4.3...
Now I upgrade the IOS to 4.3, my iPhone can't open the attachment by 3G, it can download, you can see it will finish download job but can't open, or need to waiting 10-15min. (only open the file, not download time...)
I try to using wifi open the attactment(new mail), everything okay...
Anyone know what happen and how to fix it?
    Thank you

Ok, I think I have tracked down the reason this is happening and I have also found a solution to the problem.
    Cause:
If you copy your itunes music library from one machine to another using the finder (copying the directory ~/Music/iTunes) you will have 2 machines sharing the same library ID. This appears to cause the ipad and iphone running ios 4.3 to be unable to distinguish the 2 libraries and it ends up showing just one of them.
    Solution:
Use this KB (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1451) to force itunes to rebuild your itunes library. This have resolved the problem for me and I can now see all 3 copies of my itunes library at the same time.
    OBS!
Be aware that if you follow this solution you and you are syncing a IOS device against the library you are rebuilding the IOS device will do a full re sync since it believes the library to be a new one.

When did this start?  What was the last thing you changed before problem started?
Have you tried sending the attachment from a different account.  Have a friend send you an attachment. Get a gmail account.
Send the email with attachments to two different accounts one to your ipad and the other to a gmail account in a web browser and not on an iPad.  See if you can read the ones to the gmail account.

  • Ios 7 cannot open mime-attachment.ics from outlook

I downloaded ios 7 the other day on my 4, and I cannot open my mime-attachment.ics from outlook. I have already deleted and reinstalled my mail account from which these files originate, without any success. Amy Ideas?

    Hi all,
Same problem. None of the suggestions worked for me. Even the innovative work aroung by alstarck (in outlook uncheck ICalendar) is no good since i get ?????? in the mail header and when trying to create an event it creats it on current date and not in the intended date.
If this ICS business is not fixed soon I'm seriously considering dropping Iphone alltogether because this is the last strow, in addition to the very poor ICalendar-Outlook communication. It hurts my work.
    Any Idea/knowledge/comfort?
    Thanks

  • Calendar invite attached to email as mime-attachment.ics now does not open in ios 7.0.3

Calender invitations arriving as email attachments mime-attachment.ics were opening fine but since upgrading to 7.0.3 they do not open - how do I get this working?

    Hi s.kouris,
I'm afraid that unless you are able to contact the previous owner and have him wipe the device, or provide you with his Apple ID password so you can delete the iCloud account, you are out of luck.
With iOS 7, an Activiation Lock was added to deter thieves. This lock prevents anyone but the owner of the device from deleting the iCloud account and restoring the device:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht5818
Unless you are able to reach the original owner and get the device wiped or the iCloud account deleted, you are stuck with a brick.

  • TS1702 mime-attachment.ics problem

When I'm sent a calendar entry (appointment) from a colleagues pc using Outlook it arrives as a mime-attachment.ics. Until recently I could click the icon and it would register as an appointment on the iPhone calendar. For reasons that mystify me it doesn't do this now. Can anyone please tell me why, and what I can do to rectify this? Many thanks

Outlook does allow for the outlook calendar invite to be forwarded as an iCalendar. Yet when it is sent it is still sent as a '.ICS' attachment.
That's because .ics, .ical, .icalendar are all the same:
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ICalendar
About all you can do is hope Apple implements support for handoff of .ics attachments from Mail to Calendar on the iPhone. You can certainly express your desire for that:

  • TS1347 ios 7: how can i open a mime-attachment.ics file?

since i installed ios7 on my iphone i can not open mime-attachment.ics (invitation sent from an outlook email) files in my calendar. does anyone know what i can do to open these files in my calendar?

All email attachments are encoded before being sent are encoded with MIME.
If your receive an email attachment that is not recognized by the computer or mobile device, that usually means there is not an application available on the computer or mobile device that is compatible with the attachment type.
    For the iPhone's email client:
    Viewable document types
.jpg, .tiff, .gif (images); .doc and .docx (Microsoft Word); .htm and .html (web pages); .key (Keynote); .numbers (Numbers); .pages (Pages); .pdf (Preview and Adobe Acrobat); .ppt and .pptx (Microsoft PowerPoint); .txt (text); .rtf (rich text format); .vcf (contact information); .xls and .xlsx (Microsoft Excel); .zip; .ics

  • Why does my .jpg file sent from my laptop change into a mime-attachment when I try and retrieve it on my iPad?

I am trying to send myself pictures and simple graphics that I have created in photoshop so that I can save them in my photos app on my iPad and iPhone. I've tried a variety of file sizes and even saved them out as .png and .pdf files, but when I send them and go to my mail on the iPad, they show up as  mime-attachments which cannot be opened.
When I look at the files in the inbox on my laptop, they are exactly as i sent them. When I look at the same exact email on my iPad and iPhone it shows as the mime-attachment.
    What gives????

Set up drop box on computer and iPad use it to move photos instead.

  • Need HELP - Need to send MIME attachements, not UU-encoded.

Some important recipients are unable to view attachments I send them b/c Mail, by default, sends UU-encoded attachements instead of MIME attachements.
Is there any way to configure Mail to send MIME attachements?
FYI to any other people having problems SENDING attachements (this took a while to figure out):
Google, Yahoo, and some other mail services are not particularly UU-encoding friendly, and the recipients at those addresses sometimes receive a bunch of garbled 'code' or 'script' instead of the actual attachment file.
I've read lots on these discussions from people trying to deal with READING MIME attachements that other people have sent them, but cannot find any info on switching the SENT preferences to use UU encoding for attachments instead of MIME.
If anyone can clarify, PLEASE, PLEASE HELP.
I use .mac to sync my 2 Mac Pros, MB Pro, iPhone, and three Mac Minis, so I'd really like to keep everything 'in sync' with Apple apps. Otherwise I'll have to switch to Entou-rage or Mozilla, which I don't really want to do...
Thanks in advance for any insight or advice...

I've taken the liberty of re-arranging your question for clarification.

Which one do you want to use? UU or MIME?
I do not think that Apple Mail sends UU-encoded attachments. UU is really old.
There are two settings that can fundamentally change the way Apple Mail sends messages.
    1) Plain text vs. Rich text. With plain text you can't change the fonts or colors or anything else. There is a slight possibility that this mode sends UU attachments, but I can't check from the PC in front of me. Still, I doubt it. Rich text allows fancy fonts and colors.
    2) Send Windows-friendly attachments. This will prevent Apple Mail from sending Macintosh-specific information in an e-mail message. In all cases, Apple Mail only sends standards-forming MIME e-mail messages, but many (all?) PC e-mail clients barf on this 100%-legal MIME e-mail message.
Is there any way to configure Mail to send MIME attachements?
Make sure that Windows-friendly attachments is turned on. The only downside is that other Mac users might not get resource data or might have problems with files lacking extensions. No one should be using resource data or files without extensions anymore, so this question is moot. If you do need to do that, wrap your files in a ZIP.
Google, Yahoo, and some other mail services are not particularly UU-encoding friendly, and the recipients at those addresses sometimes receive a bunch of garbled 'code' or 'script' instead of the actual attachment file.
This may happen regardless of what you do.

Here is a little write-up I did a few years back on this issue. According the the Apple discusssion regulations, I should say that I do sell a MIME-decoding tool through the link above. However, that tool will not help you send MIME e-mail messages. I'm not trying to sell you anything. These days, any decent e-mail client can handle either UU or MIME messages with no problem. There are a few notable exceptions to this, and unfortunately, those exceptions tend to have millions of customers. It is getting better though.

  • Mail forwarded to Hotmail has MIME attachment

    OSX 10.4.5/Mail 2.0.7
I've been having a persistent problem for some time now. When I'm out of the office, I have a rule set up to forward my mail to my Hotmail account, so that I receive an alert on my cell phone (Verizon). The mail arrives at Hotmail with a MIME attachment, making it unreadable on the phone thru the Hotmail web browser function.
I've got Mail set up to compose in Plain Text, and the option for replying in the same format is not checked.
If the incomming message has an attachment in the first place, I guess I can understand why it might get MIMEd when forwarded; but even text only messages get MIMEd.
    Any suggestions?

Hmmm... good suggestion. I do have signatures, but they're plain text.
But in a possibly related issue, my signatures are buggy in Mail. I have them set up to auto insert depending on the account I'm sending the mail from (one is work, one personal) but they sometimes it doesn't choose the right one, and if I switch the sending account after the message is composed (but before I send), any attachment is deleted when the signature changes. But if I hit undo, the attachment comes back. I've always chalked that up to Mail's general buggyness... or perhaps some wierdness in synching with my laptop. But maybe it's related?
I just deleted my signatures and rebuilt them from scratch. I wonder if I should check the box "always match my default font"?

  • How  can i listen to voicemails with a mime attachment

I have u-verse unified voicemail messages forwarded into my business e-mails.  They come in as a mime-attachment.  I cannot open them to listen to the voicemails.  Any idea if I need an application to hear these messages?  Of if there is a specific setting I need to use?

Rudegar is correct.  You've got to have a headset that is A2DP capable.  Now the good news, and this is not an advertisement.  I have a Samsung H1700 that is an A2DP unit.  It works GREAT with my 4S.  I've never had a connection problem, I can leave my phone charging in the house and go into my front yard and use my phone.  It has voice prompts, so when you go out of range it tells you.  It also tells you when it connects to the iPhone.  It's cheap, comfortable and looks professional.  The charge lasts forever the way I use it... and I do use it.  Another great unit that has never given me connection problems is the Jabra  BT530.  It also  is an a2dp unit, but it's not as loud as the Samsung and I have a hearing loss so I need the Samsung.
I keep reading where folks have BT problems, but I've gone through a 3GS units and two 4S units (the first 4S had a serious battery issue, but no issue with bluetooth.
    Hope this helps.
