MIME files on MBP

How can I open MIME files on MBP? Is there anything for it?

MIME is actually originally an e-mail standard (it's the standard that, among other things, allows e-mail to contain stuff other than plain text, such as attachments, etc), though some elements of MIME types are now used by HTTP (= Web browsers). MIME encoding is most frequently a colloquialism for base64 encoding, the encoding standard that MIME specifies for binary attachments to convert them to a form that e-mail servers that could ordinarily only handle text, won't choke on.
Stuffit definitely handles base64 encoding; not sure if it properly deals with all custom e-mail header data that programs may attach, though.
If you're getting a MIME error message in a Web browser, then that probably means that the Web server you're trying to access is really badly configured; it could also mean that you're trying to do something unusual and you're missing a helper application, as NICKG117 suggested.

  • ~Can't open "noname" MIME files in Gmail~

    I've searched for this topic, but can't understand all the tech-speak! I'm in my 20s, so I'm not dumb, just not in the loop. Someone break this down for me in layman's terms.
    I use Gmail for my primary email. Lately, I've been getting attachments from family members who use PCs. These attachments are always called "noname." When I hit "download," I get a message saying that it is a MIME message and asking what application I should open it with. I always get a bunch of nonsense no matter what I open it with! It looks like it's trying to be HTML, but opening it with Firefox doesn't work. Neither does opening it with the StuffIt Expander.
    Even when I hit "View as text," it doesn't make any sense. I'll paste a copy below. Can someone please tell me what application to open up MIME files in?

    It sounds like gmail has serious problems with MIME data. That isn't something it should have trouble with. It has been solved for a long, long time now.
    Even when I hit "View as text," it doesn't make any sense. I'll paste a copy below. Can someone please tell me what application to open up MIME files in?
    Ordinarily, your e-mail program.
    I have a program I used to sell years ago when people started sending MIME e-mail messages that AOL couldn't understand. Perhaps I should update it if all the world is switching to gmail and gmail doesn't handle MIME either. 1996 is here again.
    Anyway, click here to download it.
    Technically this is a shareware program and technically I could make money from it. But very few people need this program anymore and it should work just fine for you in "demo" mode.

  • Need to create a MIME file to FTP to customer

    Hi Experts,
    I have a requirement to generate a MIME file that will consist of am XML file and 1 to many attachments.  This file will then be sent via FTP to a client.  Searching within the SCN community has proven very difficult because I am NOT looking to do anything with the MIME Repository.  I just want to create a file with a .MIME extension and having the appropriate tags.  We are not wanting to send this file via email.
    I have found several queries on similar topics but they do not appear to have a solution.  Does anyone know of the proper Functions, Class methods or procedure to accomplish this within ABAP?
    Best Regards,
    Terry

     $props = @{"FirstName" = '';
                'LastName' = '';
                'UID' = '';
                'Site' = '';
                'Description' = ''}
    New-Object PsObject -Property $props | Export-Csv c:\powershell\myfile.csv -NoTypeInformation -Force
    that's the closest i have been able to come, but it seems to put the columns in a random order..
    $props=[ordered]@{
    FirstName=''
    LastName=''
    UID=''
    Site=''
    Description=''
    New-Object PsObject -Property $props |
    Export-Csv c:\powershell\myfile.csv -NoTypeInformation
    Formatting is important down the road.
    ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

  • How to read a mime file

    Hi gurus,
    is possible to read the attachments of a mime file ? The file is located in the file system and after read the content of the file and store it in a string I would retrieve the content like this :
    MimeMultipart mm = MimeMultipart(theMimePartString) ;
    BodyPart bp = mm.getBodyPart(1);
    but the body part is null here.
    Anyone has suggestions on how to do this?
    Thanks in advance.

    What exactly is in the file? Is it an entire MIME message? If so, use the MimeMessage constructor to read it.

  • Mime file "hyjack" by Quicktime

    Installed Quicktime Pro 7. Have fax system on network, faxes in tiff format (must be mime encoded).
    When I first open a fax, Windows ask if I want to associate Mime files with Quicktime. First time I said yes. Big mistake because the file comes up in Internet Explorer and I can't find a way to make it open with the preferable picture and fax viewer. Tried to find option to turn off that association, but can't.
    Uninstalled Quicktime Pro, rebooted, reinstalled. Opened a fax this time clicking no to the file association and checking the never ask me about this again. Well, low and behold, I go to open a fax and there it is in Internet Explorer.
    What the heck is going on? How can I fix this permanently? If there isn't a simple fix, please consider adding a file association option for mime files to Quicktime.
    Thanks
    P4 Intel 5160 chipset   Windows XP Pro

    QuickTime Control Panel Browser tab. Click MIME Settings, remove file formats and restart QuickTime and your browser.
    It's been a part of QuickTime since version 3.

  • Malformed mime file and Symantec AV SMTP Gateway

    Hi
    We are running 2 versions of JES at the moment, 2003Q4 and 2004Q2, both fully patched. We have just discovered that any messages with attachments that are directed through our AV ASPAM gateway from these systems are dropped with the following error.
    Scan Status: 56 - Malformed MIME file
    The AV product is Symantec AV for SMTP Gateways 3.1.2.35
    On further examination of the AV logs it appears that e-mail from other institutions also running iMS
    are also being dropped.
    The response from Symantec is as follows
    "This error indicates that the scanned email message did not conform to the Multipurpose Internet Mail Extensions (MIME) standards as set forth in RFC 2045 - RFC 2049. Strict adherence to this standard prevents incoming email with virus payloads encapsulated within malformed MIME headers and form."
    See
    http://service1.symantec.com/support/ent-gate.nsf/docid/2002112109330754?Open&src=w
    I have also discovered that similar problems are being encountered by a user trying to send HTML messages via Sun Java Mail.
    So, has anybody seen this beforeand know of a fix? It is a rather frustrating problem.
    I can provide a copy of the full message text if required.
    Many thanks in advance
    Bernard

    Bernard,
    We are using Symantec AV SMTP Gateway with Messaging Server 6.1 and are not experiencing the problems you mention, though we did see a few such issues with an older rev (we're currently using 4.0.0.59). Some of the fixes Symantec lists with ver 3.1.7 are:
    # Some multipart MIME messages with nonstandard boundary markers incorrectly parsed
    # Some multipart MIME messages with numerous plain text attachments not parsed correctly
    # Some multipart MIME messages containing two terminating boundary markers for the primary (outer) boundary generate a false positive malformed mime error
    You might consider upgrading your AV SMTP Gateway to see if this fixes the problem.
    Regards,
    Brian

  • Photos as MIME files

    My good friend has a blackberry. When he send me photos, the attachment says "MIME file" and I cannot open it. Any cure for this?

    All email attachments are encoded while the message is sent and MIME is used for the attachment encoding and decoding when the recieved message is opened. When "MIME file" is shown instead of the attached file, this means the attached file is not recognized or supported.
    Were the photos being sent captured by the Blackberry? Do you know the file type for the attached files?
    These are the email attachment file types the iPhone supports.
    Viewable document types: .jpg, .tiff, .gif (images); .doc and .docx (Microsoft Word); .htm and .html (web pages); .key (Keynote); .numbers (Numbers); .pages (Pages); .pdf (Preview and Adobe Acrobat); .ppt and .pptx (Microsoft PowerPoint); .txt (text); .rtf (rich text format); .vcf (contact information); .xls and .xlsx (Microsoft Excel)

  • Plug-in for Mime files for QuickTime missing.

    I've been trying to view certain videos and listen to streaming music and sometimes it works (never that well) and other times it doesn't. I'm using QT not WM and when it works the videos don't play in the viewer. They usually download to the desktop and then have to be manually played. When it doesn't work I get a small blue box with a question mark and the following statement:
    The page has content of MIME type “application/x-mplayer2”, but you don’t have a plug-in installed for this MIME type. A plug-in should be available on this page:
    http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/download/default.asp.
    I can't find the correct plug-in(s) on the website. What should I do?

    Hi Jeronimo and welcome to the forums!
    These are the downloads and the settings you need in order to view/hear pretty much everything that the net can throw at you: The setup described below has proved repeatedly successful on both PPC and Intel macs, but nothing in life carries a guarantee!
    It is known to work in the great majority of cases with Safari 3.0.4, QT 7.3 or 7.4 and OS 10.4.11. (If you are running Leopard, ensure that all plug-ins have been updated for OS 10.5.2, but please see my footnote).
    Assuming you already run Tiger versions OS 10.4.9 or above (this has not yet been verified with Leopard) and have Quicktime 7.2 or above, and are using Safari 2 or 3, download and install (or re-install even if you already had them) the latest versions, suitable for your flavor of Mac, of:
    RealPlayer 10 for Mac from http://forms.real.com/real/player/blackjack.html?platform2=Mac%20OS%20X&product= RealPlayer%2010&proc=g3&lang=&show_list=0&src=macjack
    The new RealPlayer Plus (v.11) is still in beta and therefore free, but works well on Tiger. It includes a download function, and you can get that here:
    http://uk.real.com/player/mac/
    Flip4Mac WMV Player from http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/player/wmcomponents.mspx (Windows Media Player for the Mac is no longer supported, even by Microsoft)
    Perian from http://perian.org/
    You should read this support page http://perian.org/#support in case you need to delete older codecs.
    Adobe FlashPlayer should first be uninstalled using the appropriate uninstaller available here: http://kb.adobe.com/selfservice/viewContent.do?externalId=tn_14157&sliceId=2 and then the latest version obtained from here: http://www.adobe.com/shockwave/download/download.cgi?P1ProdVersion=ShockwaveFlash and installed.
    (You can check here: http://www.adobe.com/products/flash/about/ to see which version you should install for your Mac and OS, but please see my footnote if you are running Leopard.)
    In earlier versions than QT 7.1.3 in Quicktime Preferences, under advanced, UNcheck Enable Flash, and under Mime settings/Miscellananeous only check Quicktime HTML (QHTM).
    You should also ensure, if you are running Tiger 10.4.11 or Leopard, that you have downloaded and installed the correct version for your Mac of Security Update 2007-009.1.1, which also deals with the Quicktime/Flash issues you may have experienced, such as the '?'. What happened was that both Quicktime as well as Adobe FlashPlayer tried to play the Flash video at the same time. This no longer happens. (N.B. Security Update 2007-009 1.1 requires both a restart and a permission repair.)
    If you get problems with viewing video on a website try moving this file to your Desktop:
    Hard drive/Library/Internet Plug-Ins/QuickTime Plugin.webplugin
    and then restarting Safari. If all now works, you can trash that file.
    In Macintosh HD/Library/Quicktime/ delete any files relating to DivX (Perian already has them). However it should be noted that Perian is not an internet plugin and will not play DivX files imbedded on a website. For that you will need the DivX Player browser plugin available from http://www.divx.com/divx/mac/
    Now go to Safari Preferences/Security, and tick the boxes under Web Content (all 4 of them) to enable Java.
    Lastly open Audio Midi Setup (which you will find in the Utilities Folder of your Applications Folder) and click on Audio Devices. Make sure that both Audio Input and Audio Output, under Format, are set to 44100 Hz, and that you have selected 'Built in Audio'.
    Important: Now repair permissions and restart.
    You should also consider having the free VLC Player from http://www.videolan.org/ in your armory, as this plays almost anything that DVD Player might not.
    FOOTNOTE
    If you are running Leopard:
    Some users have mentioned that the latest Flash Player (v.9.0.115.0) conflicts with Leopard, and that they have needed to revert to v. 9.0.47. This can be downloaded from here:
    http://kb.adobe.com/selfservice/viewContent.do?externalId=tn_14266&sliceId=1

  • Had a problem copying files, now MBP won't mount the external HD`

    Hi
    I thought to put this in the MBP forum but since I thik it may be the OS I decided to post here.
    I have a newer MBP with OS 10.5, I have an external LaCie c0nnected via eSata to keep my firewire 400 port free. I mounted another external HD to the Firewire port and the computer recognized it and I started copyig some files from the LaCie to the other external. Both formatted HFS+ Files were QT files. Somewhere during the copy process things locked up. I had to force quit the copy process, then coldn't restart the computer so had to ue the boot button to turn it off. Now I can't connect anything to the FW port. The MBP won't mount the 2nd external HD so I can get those files copied. I brought up my FCE and connected the external monitor to the FW port but now that doesn't work either and it was working this morning.
    I hope I didn't blow the FW400 port! Is there any way to 'clear it' in case it's still looking for that HD? I don't kow if I'm asking theright way cause I'm really new to MAC's. I tried the Disk Utility to verify the disk and got an OK message. What else can I try?
    Thanks
    Allen

    Hi VK
    Well I didn't blow the FW port. My video editing partner came over today to discuss a project we're working on together. He has FC Pro and I have FCE4. So I mentioned the problem to him cause it was his HD that wouldn't mount.
    We had FCE open so I was showing him my external monitor fed via the FW port wasn't working either. He went to the View menu then to Video out and then to refresh video devices. BINGO! The external monitor started working. So it wasn't the FW port but apparently the FW was locked up or looking for the other HD. Now it's working. But I haven't tried connecting another external FW HD yet.
    Thanks for your help

  • Can I share files between MBP & my iPad

    Great response !

  • Import files from MBP to iPad?

    Finding it impossible to transfer a Keynote presentation from my MBP to my iPad via email or otherwise. Am I missing something? The FAQs are not helpful.

    In addition to the method noted by the Apple support document (file sharing via iTunes), you can import a Keynote file to the iPad via iWork.com. I've done it successfully.
    So there are two ways to move a file in:
    1) file-sharing from the Mac you sync your iPad to
    2) iWork.com which should work from any Mac

  • Using iPod tp transfer files to MBP

    I put everything I want to transfer to my new MBP onto my video iPod. (music, videos and photos) I want to upload eveything on it to the MBP and then erase and re-format my iPod to Mac from Windows.
    How is this most easily accomplished?
    <-----------------very inept computer user.

    Well, first you have to enable your ipod for disk use, by checking the box manually manage songs....
    I think you already did that since you alredy tranferred your files to your ipod
    next you just have to connect your ipod to your mac , wait for it to recognize the ipod, and copy all of your files to your mac.
    As easy as that
    to re format your ipod i think you have to run the latest ipod updater on your mac with the ipod connected, i really dont know.
    But i did the same thing as you to tranfer my files and i did'n need to reformat my ipod, it works perfectly fine with my mac.
    hope this helped

  • Using files with MBP from windows7 on TC

    As title says. I want to back up all myfiles from my windows 7 laptop. (It’s going in for repairs) I have tons ofmusic I would to have on my TC and use on my 17' Gen2 MBP. How would I go abouthaving these files usable so iTunes can see them on my MBP? Or do I have tohave them locally on my MBP? If I do how can I transfer them to my MBP usingthe TC? Should I use the migration assistant? I guess I want to use my TC as astreamer for music. But I also want the pics from that same laptop on TC so I can access them with the MBP.
    Thanks
    Jason

    Bump please
