MIME type settings for browser are IGNORED

I have the following problem since Quicktime 7 Preview 2:
Quicktime by default has many mime types associated which I don't want to be played by quicktime in my browser.
For example .mp3
So I deselected everything but Quicktime movies in the mime type associations.
But no matter what I deselect there - Quicktime is stil playing everything in the browser.
It seems that Quicktime conmpleteley ignores the mime type settings in the preferences and plays everything by default!
What do I need to do to fix this?
In versions 7 Preview 1 an lower these settings worked just fine.
And as long as this isn't fixed I won't use Quicktime 7...

The "hijacking" of files types and file extensions has been a part of every piece of software I can remember. Particularly with browsers and media files.
Not all browsers use the same types of plug-in architecture and this may be what you're experiencing.
It's been a long time since I fired up Internet Explorer on my Mac. Many browsers still use its style.
On a Mac (maybe the same on a PC) Internet Explorer uses its own "File Helpers" for MIME types. These can be edited using its "preferences".
Try changing the settings in IE. You'll find them under "helpers" (or something named like that).
Because Microsoft has tried to put its own formats in "front" of viewers these obstacles will now be part of much of your online experience.
User (viewers) do have most of the control. It's a shame that we have to fight just to get what we want in our online experience.

    .i have done settings in spro OPPE order type is given.in MD04 manual conversion planned order to production order system asking order type ,but i given order type in OPPE
    What are the settings for  production order directly from sale order at the time of RUNNING MD50
    Regards,
    Naresh.

    Hi,
    You will not get a production order out of MD50. That would have to be set up in the SD customizing for the sales order item, but I am not sure that would work with your two-plant setup.
    After MD50 you need to run CO41 for the collective conversion (and I also recommend the mentioned production scheduling profile customizing and then maintain this profile in the material master work scheduling view)

  • PSE9 - import / open settings for jpegs - are there any?

    Hi all,
    I'm a LR3 user mainly so have very little idea about PSE9 but my Dad's Panasonic Lumix FS10 takes all images at 180dpi and this cannot be altered.
    Is there any way of getting Elements 9 to alter the resolution that it immediately displays the images at, as unlike LR3 there doesn't appear to be any 'export' facility where you can batch export loads of images and have individual 'save' settings for each export.
    Altering each and every image to 72dpi before saving as jpeg is a complete pain in the whatnots.
    I've tried the batch convert option for all open files but it saves a copy of each file which ends up bigger than the original!
    Many thanks in advance.
    Dave.

    DPI is an arbitrary number set by the camera manufacturer.  Some cameras show 180, some 240, some none, which  is defaulted to 72.  The file size is not influenced by it.  DPI = dots per inch is only relevant for printing and should be referred to as PPI (pixels per inch).  The really important values are the pixel dimensions of an image.  Of course, the file size is also dependent on the picture quality and compression algorithms.  If you 'converted' from 180 to 72 and afterward had a smaller file size, then a additional compression must have taken place, which would have lessened the images' quality.

    Thanks for this Juergen,
    are we now heading to the "eye of the beholder" scenario though?
    If the images 95% of the time are going to be used for posting on the internet / viewing on PC monitor use (this being maxed out at 72dpi), and no image quality loss can be seen between the 2 (72dpi & 180dpi) files, the user may as well stick with the 72dpi conversions and have smaller files then?
    When the user normally then reduces the image dimensions to 1200px on the longest side, surely the 72dpi verisons will be better for them?
    Granted as I mentioned before, the images may get used for printing once in a while, but again, I use my full-sized images at 72dpi and can get pin sharp A4s out of them whenever I want.

  • How do I set the conversion settings for Word to ignore outline autonumbering for headings?

    I have a user manual in Word that uses outline autonumbering for Heading 1, Heading 2, etc. For example, "1.0 Introduction," "1.1 System Settings" and so on).
    I know when setting the conversion settings for FrameMaker, you can select the Ignore Autonumber option in the Conversion Settings dialog to keep only the paragraph content. I don't see anything like this for the Word Conversion Settings. Does this capability exist?

    To clarify:
    I have my paragraphs in Word set up with the required numbering properties using Word's Style settings. In Word, I want the headings to be numbered 1.0, 1.1, 1.1.1, etc. because the intent is for the reader to read through the manual like a book - from start to finish.
    I'm single-sourcing my manual from Word into RoboHelp to generate an online help package. However, I do not want my RoboHelp headings to be numbered because the user may or may not read each topic in order (in other words, they may only need to read what's in section 3.2, but won't get there by reading sections 1.0 through 3.1 first). I might also clarify that each heading is its own topic - so Section 3.2 would be a separate topic from 3.0 and 3.1.
    So for example, in Word, it reads like this:
         "1.0 Introduction
         [content goes here]
         1.1 System Requirements
         [content goes here]
         1.2 References
         [content goes here]"
    And in RoboHelp, I want it like this
         "Introduction
         [content goes here]"
         ---[end of topic]---
         "System Requirements
         [content goes here]"
         ---[end of topic]---
         "References
         [content goes here]"
         ---[end of topic]---
    Does that make sense?
    So how do I keep the numbering in my Word document, but set up the Conversion Settings in RoboHelp to ignore those numbers and only include the text following the autonumber? I have been able to do this when single-sourcing a FrameMaker book into RoboHelp.

  • Global MIME type settings in JDS

    I've recently started working with JDS on Solaris 10. I want to create global MIME settings so that any user that logs in will have the same file associations. I've gone through all the info from the GNOME website regarding update/changing the MIME database (create Overrides.xml run update-mime-settings). However, I can not get the settings to take effect for all users. Basically, I want to set the file associations as root and have them be the same for all users.

    I too need this information, but seeing it's been over a year and no one replied to the thread starter.....

  • Registry settings for drivers are missing..Please reinstall iTunes

    I haven't been able to find a post with a similar problem.. please forgive me if it's already been dealt with.
    I got this new computer last week, a Dell Studio 15 running Vista. A few days later I installed iTunes 8 with no problems. I started importing my music, no problems. Today I opened iTunes and a warning message came up:
    "The registry settings used by the iTunes drivers for importing and burning CDs and DVDs are missing. This can happen as a result of installing other CD burning software. Please reinstall iTunes."
    I clicked OK but itunes opened and worked fine. I imported and burned cds with no problem on iTunes (I've played a DVD on WMP, but that's the only other media program I've used), so iTunes seems to recognize my cd drive. Eventually I uninstalled and reinstalled iTunes to get rid of that message, but it still came up. I also tried repairing iTunes, but that didn't get rid of it either.
    What I don't understand is why the message still comes up even though it has no problems importing or burning cds. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    I'm having exactly the same issue and it seems this can help:
    iTunes uses GEAR software drivers for importing and burning CD’s & DVD’s. Re-installing (or installing the latest GEAR drivers seems to fix this problem. No reboot required for this install.

  • Uploading files Mime Type not correct for Office 2007 default extensions.

    hi all,
    My company has recently moved over to MS Office 2007 and the default extensions for word, excel etc are now .docx, xlsx etc (ie xml based).
    Unfortunately now when we upload files through APEX to the database the MIME TYPE value for these files isn't being recognised and not loadeding correctly into the APEX_APPLICATION_FILES table and subsequently any future retrieval of these files fails.
    I could put some logic inthe up load procedure to look at the filename in APEX_APPLICATION_FILES and hard code in the releavnt mime types but this still causes problems when retrieving the content.
    Has anyone come across this and got a workround? Is it a bug in AE?
    regards
    James
    FYI - using APEX 3.0.2 over 11G.

    I have not any response to my question and not sure if it is in Apex I need to look or the tomcat server that I need to look. I have a useful application to try to show others what Apex can do for our customers to collaborate. However, most of our customers are using office 2007 so, hoping this is possible.

  • Caching MIME types in browser using a servlet (independent of the app-code)

    We are using jboss 3.2.6 app server to deploy an ear. To reduce the server round-trips and network latency, we created a servlet that caches various MIME types in the browser.
    package foo.bar.nw.cache;
    import java.io.IOException;
    import javax.naming.directory.DirContext;
    import javax.servlet.ServletException;
    import javax.servlet.http.HttpServletRequest;
    import javax.servlet.http.HttpServletResponse;
    import org.apache.catalina.servlets.DefaultServlet;
    public class TomcatDefaultServlet extends DefaultServlet {
         protected void serveResource(HttpServletRequest request,
                   HttpServletResponse response, boolean content) throws IOException,
                   ServletException {
              super.serveResource(request, response, content);
              DirContext resources = getResources();
              String path = getRelativePath(request);
              ResourceInfo resourceInfo = new ResourceInfo(path, resources);
              String mimeType = getServletContext().getMimeType(resourceInfo.path);
              System.out.println("mime type = " + mimeType);
              if (mimeType != null
                        && (mimeType.equals("image/gif")
                                  || mimeType.equals("text/javascript")
                                  || mimeType.equals("image/jpeg") || mimeType
                                  .equals("text/css"))) {
                   response.setHeader("Cache-Control", "max-age=7200");
    }The above code set the max-age to 2 hours. We created a jar file for the above class and deployed it C:\sw\jboss-3.2.6\server\<server-config>\deploy\jbossweb-tomcat50.sar
    And also made the appropriate entry in the file C:\sw\jboss-3.2.6\server\<server-config>\deploy\jbossweb-tomcat50.sar\conf\web.xml.
    The problem is that sometimes the 'expires' attribute of all the files in Temporary Internet Files shows date-time and sometimes it shows 'None'.
    We tried using the code below but no luck.
    response.setHeader("Expires", "Mon,18 Jan 2038 16:00:00 GMT");
    Not sure on how to verify if they are getting cached on the browser (IE 6).
    Any help will be appreciated.

  • What are the best export settings for a HD video in Premier Pro CS4?

    Hi!
       I've been having so much trouble with this issue and it's something that continually frustrates my boss. I have a HD video the settings for it are
    FPS 23.98
    1920 x 1080, then a few lines down it says 1408 x 792
    16 bit,
    2 channels
    48000 Hz
       What should the settings be when I make a new sequence?
                 When I look at it in the window in Premiere Pro I have to contantly 'shrink' the image to fit the window, is that something I should be doing or does it indicate the sequence settings are incorrect?
    But more importantly what should the export settings be? I exported a 4 minute long video and the size was 1 GB, I know that's too big.
    I need to export it without loosing any quality and export another one that meets the Youtube and Vimeo limits on size.
    Vimeo is 500 MB per week, sometimes I upload 4 videos per week. I think Youtube you can only upload 500 MB at a time.
    I need to get smaller sizes with loosing the least amount of quality possible AND the best export settings for quality, so I guess I have 3 separate questions-
    What are the best sequence settings for HD video?
    What are the best export settings for HD without loosing any quality?
    What are the best export settings for the size to come out around 500 MB with loosing the least amount of quality possible?
    Thank You!

    On the above thread I used the 5th anwer, and it's going to take about 7 hours to export a 4 minute video :/

    It Stands for "Coder Decoder."
    Your format is like a container for your video file. Certain containers can hold certain codecs and not others. Other containers can hold other codecs. Sometimes different containers can hold the same codecs.
    This might be a bad analogy but I'll give it a try.
    A coffe cup (container) can hold pretty much any liquid you drink, where a red solo cup (container) won't hold scolding water. So, the coffe cup would be your container of choice most likely because it has the most options for liquids (codecs). But, you might want a red solo cup for just a single crappy beer at a party (a moderate quality streaming video on the web). In that case, you don't need all the optoins of another container.
    In Premiere Pro CC H.264 is a Container and the Codec in one option. This has been streamlined for web distrobution of video to be played in browsers without things like Flash or special players.
    Were as if you choose the QuickTime Container there are over 40 codec optoins (at least on my machine with additinal ones installed) but you may run into an issue where your browser doesn't support QuickTime playback.
    I would say that your container is for compatability with players and your codec is taken into consideration when looking at the quality of the compression.
    Yesteraday I wrote a blog entery on Exporting from Premiere Pro and found that the MPEG-4 codec inside of the QuickTime container gave me much richer colors than the H.264 container/codec option.
