Mini 1010NR Linux XP Reinstallation of XP stalls at first window

First the situation:  I have a netbook HP 1010NR with a solid state drive 8GB.  Originally this netbook came with XP because I have the license and key sticker on the back.   Presently, it has Lubuntu (Linux) installed.  I want to revert back to XP.  Ordered the recovery discs using the serial number of the netbook.
The operating system CD boots fine and starts the process of installing all the drivers necessary to start Windows to continue with the installation.  I'm sure we all know this by heart.   The problem is reached when all the drivers have been installed and the first installation screen tries to start up.  It just sits there.  No screen.  Just the initial blue screen with the message along the bottom in the white bar informing that Windows was starting up.
I've tried USB DVD/CD because I have one.  I made a USB bootable flash drive and it stalls at exactly the same spot.  I have an old XP Prof CD and it stalls at the same spot.  All work fine on a different computer.
I've called HP support with the phone number that came with the recovery discs.  I have to tell you now that I'm profoundly deaf.  After a significant amount of time (you can imagine), the conclusion was that I have a bad CD and a replacement will be sent to me at no cost.   As of this moment I have not yet seen it.  It is early.
I have who possibilities:  The BIOS may be out of date and the SSD partitioning may be causing the stall.  I can't upgrade the BIOS for XP installations because it requires XP running to download and install.  The Linux version allows you to burn a bootable CD and use that to upgrade the BIOS but I don't want Linux.  I want XP.   Assuming that it is a SSD issue, I have no drivers I can use to overcome this block.  As you may recall when installing XP, you are asked if special drivers are required for the hard drive.  If so, hit F6.
Information about the system:   SSD is a ATA SanDisk pSSD 8gb.  Processor Atom N270  1.6 Ghz, RAM 2 GB.  [Serial number removed for privacy]
Any suggestions?

Hi:
Now you have the Mini 1010NR, not the MIni- 210-1010NR, correct?
The drivers would be different.
It sounds like you need the SATA AHCI drivers.
I have attached the ones you need for the 1010NR below.
Please read this guide below on how to slipstream the drivers (unless you have a floppy disk drive to load the driver at the F6 prompt).  You cannot use a USB flash drive for the F6 prompt. That prompt will only work with a FDD.
Read the section under Intel drivers and then read the guide on how to slipstream all of the drivers.
http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Operating-Systems-and/SATA-drivers-for-XP-solution-on-0x000000...
Now, if by chance you do have a USB FDD then you can extract the drivers below onto a FDD, hit the F6 key and when the installation stops and asks you to select the driver you need from the list showing on the FDD, then you use the Up/Down arrow keys to scroll to and find the Intel(R) ICH7M/MDH SATA AHCI Controller.
That is the specific SATA AHCI driver needed for your MIni 1010NR.

  • Mini 1010nr USB not working

I have a HP Mini 1010nr running ubuntu 10.10 and none of my USB ports are working. I have checked if it is an OS problem and its not. the USBs are not even showing up in the bios. I know there are bios updates available but I cant flash my bios because my usb ports aren't working. Any help is appreciated.

A BIOS update would not be likely to fix bad usb ports. The trouble is that there is no support for Linux from HP. I have also put the Ubuntu netbook edition on a couple netbooks and had no problems. All netbooks have essentially the same hardware with an intel Atom processor and an intel 945 chipset, which is mainstream and supported by any 2.6 Linux kernel. If the BIOS does not give you the option to boot from an attached usb stick or a usb floppy drive I hate to say it but I think you have a motherboard issue. The only way to be sure is to roll back to Windows but that will be tough with no usb ports.

  • Hp Mini 1010NR Can Solid State Hard Drive be replaced with a normal drive?

HP MINI 1010NR- Part Number FT315UA -8GB Solid State Drive Running Windows XP Home Edition
The Hard Drive is listed in Device Manager as a ide\disksandisk PSSD 8GB  SSD 4.47
I have Windows XP fully updated and Microsoft Works 9.0 Fully updated on this computer and it reports that I am Low on Disk Space.
I love this computer but I must have more disk space to make it more functional to use.
    My question is:
Can I replace the solid state drive with a platter type (normal) 250 gig hard drive. If so what size 1.8" or 2.5" and what capacity? Also, what type connector on the hard drive would I have to have to connect up to the computer? IDE- PATA -SATA?
I really hope that I can do this as it would make this computer very usefull to me.
    Thank you,
    Redtail1949

    Hi,
The solid state drive is SATA (the 8GB SSD from the service guide is).
    See this maintenance guide: http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c01683469.pdf
I can't say if a SATA hard drive will be working but a 16GB SATA SSD (probably 2.5", but you can find it out yourself) should work. The 16GB compatible SSD is SATA so I would buy one..

Just got a new Ipad mini 32 and can't connect to my HP Pavilion DM1 windows 8 via bluetooth. I get to the stage where you have to confirm on both systems the generated code and then it goes in error. Not supported. Any clue ?

Unless you have an iOS app that uses BT for a specific purpose, such as file transfer, BT on the iPad alone, as stated, does not support it.

  • HT1846 The 2012 Mac Mini's are listed on this article. Can I run windows 7 64-bit on it and/or the 32-bit?

The 2012 Mac Mini's are listed on this article. Can I run windows 7 64-bit on it and/or the 32-bit?

I would buy nothing less than Windows 7 64-bit Pro.
32-bit only addresses 3.5 GB RAM ... 2012 Macminis can hold 16 GB.
64-bit Home addresses 16 GB RAM.
64-bit Pro addresses 192 GB RAM and han an XP mode.
This is all about having a good version of Windows for future use.  Yu can buy "Syem Builder" version of 64-bit Pro for $140.

  • First single-boot Linux, in the future multi-boot after addition of Windows

The given hardware setup is 32Bits Pentium 4 with blank SATA HDD and BIOS. GPT is in seek on that HDD, not MBR. As next it will be setup to single-boot system with Linux. Means amongst others the disk is to be partitioned.
However it is unclear if Linux will satisfy the user of this system. It will show in middle or long term if the satisfaction is present or not. Therefore the plan B is in setup now as well. It means, should it in the future turn out that user will have Windows
instead of Linux indeed, such a OS will be added to this system - means in no way a replacement - a smooth transition only accepted, a transition which surely need some extent of time. It will be added in the multi-boot fashion, not as VM - due to quite vintage
hardware state. Let's assume in such a case the Windows 8.1 will be taken.
As for current stage of works - means the disk partitioning - which measures of precaution must be met now in order to make such and system extension in the future possible? Just to leave a free space on disk for needs of future Windows installation? Must the
reservation be made in specific disk regions or no matter? Is it necessary for this reason to create now a partition of specific type, with specific properties? Anything else to be considered?
There are lots of articles and howtos in the web regarding multi-boot questions however all they address the reversed situation, first Windows then add other vendor's OS.

    Hi,
I agree with BoYans's opinion. MBR style is applied to your computer. If you install Windows after Ubuntu, There are two approaches for you from Ubuntu official website:
One is recovering GRUB after reinstalling Windows.
Another is master Boot Record backup and re-replacement.

  • HP mini 1010NR not usable outside US!

I recently bought a mini notebook model 1010NR. I read the couple of sentences in the manual about international use which were totally ambiguous but seemed to suggest that it was usable elsewhere. Having now brought it to France, I just inquired online about plugging it in here and was informed via Chat (i.e.  HP robot) that it requires a voltage converter in areas with 220v current. These cost about 50 euros/$70 here, plus they are extra weight and inconvenience to lug around.
Is there really no other way to use mini notebooks in countries with 220volt current? Can't I just buy a 220v power cord to connect the power supply to the AC/DC box?Why is HP not more upfront about this, given that it's completely normal to switch the voltage when you take other computers to 220volt areas? I could have plugged it in and fried the whole thing.

    Backferry

The AC converter incuded with your North American 1010NR CAN be used in other countries, with the exception of Germany for some reason. You just have to have the correct cord and plug for whatever country's electrical system your are using ... the converter does what it is supposed to do and will step down the power and the Hertz cycle [North America is 110 v 60 Hz, most of the rest of the world uses different voltage and plug configurations, and  50 Hz cycle power] for use in the computer. Unfortunately HP charges an ridiculous price [$65 USD] for example for stronger power cord and large plug with fuse that can be used in the UK/Ireland and SIngapore. If you go onto the HP Parts website you'll see all the different power cords ... but you can't order them online you have to call in the US 1-800-227-8164 with the parts number and your computer information]. I'll use my old Dell laptop overseas - they only charged $15 w/shipping for a UK power cord.

I found the main Windows 7 key sticker under the battery. Where do I find the rest, such as the activation code that I'll need for clean reinstallation?

Sorry, I don't understand your question.
I've been able to activate clean Win 7 installs by using the CoA sticker key.  Activation will fail and offer phone activation.  That leads to an automated procedure where Windows provides a set of digits that one enters, and then the phone robot offers a string of digits that activates.
What do you mean by activation code?
