Mini and Adobe CS3 vs G4 tower and CS2

Graphic artist is using
tower G4 Dual 1GHz
2mb L3 cache per processor
1.5 gb RAM with Creative Suite 2
I am suggesting we move on to a MacMini 1.66GHZ with 1 gig Ram using CS3...
Any opinions on relative speeds - I have CS2 on a Mini and it is slower than the G4, but I'd reckon CS3 on Intel would be quicker? All we would install would be Office and CS3.
(more RAM is an option, but just out of the box - what do you think?)

CS3 would indeed be quicker on an Intel mini since it's Intel native, thus runs without the memory and performance hit caused by Rosetta. I'd expect a 1.66 mini with 1Gb RAM and native software to outperform a dual 1GHz processor G4 by a notable margin, suffering only from a slower hard drive. However, since you note the intention to also use MS Office, which is NOT yet Intel native, I'd expect running that to cause the system a significant slowdown because it would require Rosetta to run in the background. Under that circumstance, I'd urge the system to be upgraded to the max of 2Gb RAM, which should allow enough room for CS3 to run well, and still provide sufficient RAM to get reasonable performance from MS Office. Alternatively, you could perhaps download Neo Office instead (it's fully MS Office compatible, free and Intel native) in which case 1Gb would be sufficient (2 would be better).
And just to add to the possible complications, I'd also want to throw in an external, faster, FW drive, which could be set up to boot from and squeeze even more performance out of the system.
Ooops - ON EDIT: Neo Office can be found at http://neooffice.org/neojava/en/index.php

  • Adobe CS3 Upgrade on 2.4 GHz MacBook Pro

I am planning to purchase the new generation MacBook Pro in about a month.
My question is about Adobe CS3. I currently use CS2 on an older G4 PowerBook because I could not deal with the performance dip on the older MacBook Pro (1.83 GHz with 512MB RAM). So I have a licensed copy of CS2 for PPC. If I buy the Upgrade Version of CS3 at a much reduced price, will the transition to Universal work on a MacBook Pro? No more Rosetta? Performance problems solved?
I realize Rosetta probably struggled with my previous MacBook's speed and lack of RAM. But I don't want to go through that hair-pulling again. I don't get into that advanced PhotoShop, etc. of CS3 but I'm willing to upgrade just to have it Universal and be more reliable. And, of course, I'd like to save the $800 on having to buy the Full Version of the software.
    Thanks everyone for your feedback.
By the way, I had the same performance issue with MS Office for Mac. Almost 30 seconds to open Word! Anyone know if this becomes a non-issue with newer Macbook Pros??

Your problem your your previous MBP was simply RAM. 512MB when trying to use CS2 products is simply insanity. If you opt for a new MBP with the standard 2GB, better still with an upgrade to 4GB, then CS3 will perform extremely well. RAM us hugely important and one of the biggest bottlenecks in today's hardware and software requirements.

  • Can I install Adobe CS3, and upgrade all the way through to CS5.5 on Lion?

    Hi,
I have registered Adobe Suite products since CS3 (DVDs) and been incrementally upgrading to CS5.5 on my Macbook Pro late 2008.
I recently bought a Mac Mini Server and I was wondering if I will be able to install my Adobe CS3 (imaged disks or external super drive) then run all my upgrades (see below) all the way through CS5.5 without any issues.
    1) Master Collection CS3 DVDs
    2) Design Premium CS4 DVDs
    3) Design Premium CS5 Download
    4) Design Premium CS5.5 Download
I have read somewhere that I could perhaps skip the 2 older CSx, and instead, just install my CS5 from download and enter the earlier serial numbers (CS3 + CS4) requested. But until I receive the Mac Mini with Lion, I cannot try this and confirm if this actually works.
Has anyone performed a similar installation on their Lion OS?
    Thank you.

  • Adobe CS3 and MacBook Pro: any problems?

i am about to purchase a new 15" macbook pro and adobe cs3.
has anyone experienced problems or issues with cs3 running on their macbook pro?
    thanks!

    Hi,
I have purchased CS3 and I have a G5 Tower and a MBP dual 2 core (bought it 2 months ago)
Let me tell you that I am very unpleased with CS3 on both machines.
On the G5 it is 10 times slower than CS1 for some reason it takes a lot of processing power and RAM wich the G5 does poorly.
On the MBP it processes fine but I only have 1 Gig of RAM and I feel that I don't have enough. Plus it doesn't help that a laptop HD is slower at opening files so it really makes it look like it runs slow...I should of bought the 24in imac instead due to the fact that it doesn't cost 900$ to buy a extra 2 Gigs of RAM
    and the HD is faster

  • Will Adobe CS3 and earlier run on 10.8

Will versions of Adobe CS3, and other programs run on X10.8? Also, do I need to upgrade to 10.7 before 10.8? I am currently running 10.6.8.

    Photoshop CS3 system requirements
    Mac OS
PowerPC G4 or G5 or multicore Intel processor
    Mac OS X v10.4.8-10.5 (Leopard)
    512 MB of RAM
    64 MB of video RAM
2 GB of available hard-disk space (additional free space required during installation)
    1,024 x 768 monitor resolution with 16-bit graphics adapter
    DVD-ROM drive
QuickTime 7 software required for multimedia features
Internet or phone connection required for product activation
Broadband Internet connection required for Adobe Stock Photos* and other services
I think your CS3 is just to old.  I upgraded mine to be compatible with OS 8.  (I agree with skipping OS 7)

  • Adobe CS3 Suite -- How to Get InDesign and Acrobat Pro to Install?

I uninstalled and deactivated my Adobe CS3 Design Premium from my 1st gen Macbook (2006) and installed it on my 3rd gen Macbook Air (2011). When I installed CS3 using the original discs, InDesign and Acrobat did not install properly. How to fix?
    My questions:
    1. Got any ideas how to install InDesign and Acrobat Pro without uninstalling the whole CS3, running the cleaner tool, and reinstalling everything again? I tried to rerun the installer just for InDesign and Acrobat Pro but I got the same result -- no install.
    2. Installing CS3 takes forever -- at least several hours. Is it because I'm sending it over my wireless network? (I'm "sharing" the DVD drive on my other Macbook because my Air doesn't have one.)
    Thanks so much!!
(More background, in case it's useful -- before installing CS3, I had run the Adobe Creative Suite Cleaner Tool to clean up the mess I made when I tried to migrate CS3 using Mac's migration assistant. I learned, thanks to this forum, that I couldn't use the Migration Assistant tomove CS3. I also found that the unistaller didn't transfer, so I manually deleted folders and then used the cleaner. It worked wel enough to allow me to install everything but InDesign and Acrobat Pro.)

Thanks Jeff (and Manish). I'm all for better reliability and a quicker installation.
This may seem like a dumb question, but how do I properly copy the CS3 install files onto a USB? Drag and drop everythng from the CD? Can I not just copy the files onto my desktop and install from there? That is what I thought Manish suggested, to install from the desktop.
I had tried this method. After copying the install files to the desktop, here's what happened: I clicked the setup application and it opened, but it immediately detected that I had CS3 installed and wouldn't let me go any further. Perhaps that was due to other problems resulting from use of the Migration Assistant.
Previously, when I used the install disk on the shared drive, I was able to open the setup and install the couple of CS3 programs that weren't installed the first time around. That installation attempt failed and led me here to my original post.
    Many thanks!

  • Adobe reader waits about 5 mins and still fail to accept pdef drop from 3rd party applications

The Adobe Reader Version 7.0 on Linux SLED 10, waits about 5 mins and still fail to accept the drop of pdf file from another application.
The drag source create a tmp file in the /tmp directory and drag target type is text_uri_list. with XDND as protocols.
Would it be possible to find out what is required to accept drop for the Adobe Reader ? and why does it takes about 5 mins to return drag fininsh events ?
    Thanks

    Hello,
Unfortunately, the 7.0 Reader doesn't accept drag-drop on the application window. However Reader 7.0.8 (and the upcoming Reader 8.1) does.

Hi, I need to activate my Adobe CS3 on a new computer because my old one died and I'm having difficulty. Tried the normal registration way and then logged in with my Adobe ID and can see the software and activation code already registered. How to get it on my computer registered?

If your two activation are in use you need to call Adobe. Install CS3 to to point of activation and call Adobe at that point.  They have help me in cases like your My Disk crashed and I replaced it. Could not deactivate the crash activation.  I done that twice over the years I've been using  PS for around 20 years

    Hello,
Certain Firefox problems can be solved by performing a ''Clean reinstall''. This means you remove Firefox program files and then reinstall Firefox. Please follow these steps:
'''Note:''' You might want to print these steps or view them in another browser.
#Download the latest Desktop version of Firefox from http://www.mozilla.org and save the setup file to your computer.
#After the download finishes, close all Firefox windows (click Exit from the Firefox or File menu).
#Delete the Firefox installation folder, which is located in one of these locations, by default:
    #*'''Windows:'''
    #**C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox
    #**C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox
#*'''Mac:''' Delete Firefox from the Applications folder.
#*'''Linux:''' If you installed Firefox with the distro-based package manager, you should use the same way to uninstall it - see [[Installing Firefox on Linux]]. If you downloaded and installed the binary package from the [http://www.mozilla.org/firefox#desktop Firefox download page], simply remove the folder ''firefox'' in your home directory.
#Now, go ahead and reinstall Firefox:
##Double-click the downloaded installation file and go through the steps of the installation wizard.
##Once the wizard is finished, choose to directly open Firefox after clicking the Finish button.
Please report back to see if this helped you!
    Thank you.
    <!-- VERY important to include-->
<b>WARNING:</b> Do not run Firefox's uninstaller or use a third party remover as part of this process, because that could permanently delete your Firefox data, including but not limited to, extensions, cache, cookies, bookmarks, personal settings and saved passwords. <u>These cannot be recovered unless they have been backed up to an external device!</u>

  • I have been using Adobe Photoshop Elements on an older Mac...just bought Mac Mini and migrated all my files...but 4.0 Does not work....can I upgrade PSE 4.0 to PSE 13?

I have been using Adobe Photoshop Elements on an older Mac...just bought Mac Mini and migrated all my files...but 4.0 Does not work....can I upgrade PSE 4.0 to PSE 13?

Yes, any version of PSE qualifies for upgrade pricing, but if you're in the US you might want to consider running the trial  for now and waiting for the black friday specials, when the full version will be a lot less than the adobe upgrade price.

  • Adobe CS3 and Mac Pro

For professionals using Adobe CS3 on Mac Pro about how much RAM is needed to run all 6 programs together efficantly? I'm looking into upgrades and really need some advice- Any out there to give?
    Thanks,
    Port

It depends. If you work with files greater than 1GB, almost as much RAM as you want/need (8GB would be good).
    What do you have now?
Are you use to using a large fast scratch RAID to help?
The more programs running (and not just CS3 but others as well) the more the merrier.
Same applies to whether you want 2.66 or 3.0 or 8-core model.

  • Windows 7 and Adobe CS3 Production Premium?

I'm about to upgrade to Windows 7 Ultimate, and would like to know if Adobe CS3 Production Premium will install on
    Windows 7 64-bit?
Has anyone experience any problems?  Is there anything I should be aware of, or extra steps that must be taken during the installation of CS3?
    Thanks.

It should but why in the world would you stick with 32 bit video apps if you're moving to Win 7 64 bit? You can upgrade for a pretty reasonable amount and take advantage of the new machine. Put a boatload of RAM in there and you'll be a lot happier.
You can save $40 right now on Amazon with free shipping: http://amzn.to/e7sMSp
Finally, I'm assuming that this is about a new machine. If you truly mean you're upgrading Windows, then make sure you do a CLEAN INSTALL. Do not do an inplace upgrade of Windows.

  • Adobe cs3 @ win xp 64 bit and 16 gig of ram

im editing images with huge file size in adobe cs3 and i want to make it fast. can this machine help cs3 on it's performance ???
    OS - xp sp3 64 bit
    motherboard - gigabyte ep45-ud3p
    CPU - intel core2quad Q8200 @ 2.33GHz(4 CPUs),~2.3GHz
    GeForce 9500 GT
    RAM - 16 GIG ddr2
    thanks in advance

XP 64 is unsupported and causes countless problems with Photoshop it also lacks drivers. CS3 is 32-bit only.
    I would use CS4 and either Vista64 or Win7 64-bit OS.
