Mini book mini review

I recently ordered a package of three mini books
Time to print - 4 working days from transmit
Time to ship (standard) - 4 days from west coast to east coast
Now for some details
The front cover and back cover are made of card stock. As far as I can tell you can only put a picture on the front cover - so the back cover will be white. In addition there is no printing on the inside face of the front cover.
The picture on the front cover may cut a few pixels off on the right edge. I left 1/4 inch of white space around the picture and the text on the front cover and had a bit less on the printed right hand edge.
The inner pages are printed on double sided paper with a mildy shiny finish (no one would describe it as glossy). The quality of the paper is what would be expected in a good textbook.
I did not see any loss of the image on any of the edges but of course the binding obscures about 1/8 inch of whatever edge is inside. The book creation process indicates that may happen by adding a shadow to the inside edge. I did not layout any of my pages crossing the centerfold - but certainly you would have to be careful not to put anything important in that area.
The colors were excellent - perhaps less saturated than what I see on the screen but pretty much what one sees when moving to print.
You should probably order an even number of inside pages. If you don't the back side of the final page will be white.
One of my originals had 450 pixels along the long edge and I was given a resolution warning - which suprised me as this was only going to be a 3.5 wide image - anyway I upsized it in PS and put it in and it looks fine.
I kept the text that I added simple but like others I found the text style selection process quite difficult.

Yes it is, exactly in that order!

    Hi Peggs,
    Try this:
Open your iBooks app on your iPad
Select the Store Button at the top
    Select Purchased at the bottom
You will see your AppleID on the right at the bottom, then Redeem, then Support
Click on your Apple ID, and when the AppleID window comes up with the options, Sign Out
Then Sign In again and try redownloading your book

  • Where are my mini books !

This morning (Wed 27th Sept 06) I sent an order for 2x 6 mini books (12) and I don't think they got to their destination, 5 hours later I was still asked not to quit Aperture as the last of my 6 books were not yet sent...I decided this was an error as it never takes more that 10 mins to send mini books. Now I am left in limbo land "Where are my books" have they arrived. As a professional using Aperture I need answers to these questions but I have know way of finding out if they arrived in Holland and this is not good enough.

I'm glad everything worked out for you, but for godsake start transferring purchases onto your computer. Occasionally things are no longer available from iTunes/App Store, for whatever reason, but if you transfer purchases you'll at least have a copy on your computer.

  • Mini book, can't remove "title here"

After creating an album with a different company, I have spent all day resizing and centering the pages to fit in mini albums for their family members.
    Finally, I'm done.
Problem: on the cover page I dropped a photo in. There is the text that says "title here". I thought I would just be able to click on it and edit. But I can't. When I click on it, it only allows me to edit the whole page, not the text. I haven't been able to find any way to fix it. Can anyone help?
    Thanks,
    ~Trish

Switch to layout mode. It's the button with a dotted rectangle on it to the left of the T icon above the viewer.

  • What do I need to connect my late 2009 Mac book (mini display port) to the TV and get sound?

    I'm totally confused!
I have a late 2009 model Macbook. And I want to connect it to my TV.
So my research has led to believing I need a Mini display port adapter and a HDMI cable - but from some of what I have read, this won't carry sound...
Can anyone clarify this and what I do actually need?

The Mini DisplayPort to HDMI doesn't carry audio unless you have the Mid 2010 model 7,1 and there're no audio plugs on most TVs to work with HDMI since it's expecting audio with theHDMI.
If you have the Late 2009 model 6,1 White Unibody with the MiniDisplay Port there is an adapter that can combine video and audio to HDMI.

  • Need some Vista drivers for NB100 mini book

    When I installed vista on NB100 I can't find drivers for :
    Network wired card
    wireless
    webcam
    and display driver
    Where Can I find them?

    Hi,
I think you must search on external websites. Toshiba doesnt provide Vista drivers on this notebook because the system requirements of Vista are too high for a mini notebook and Windows XP or Ubuntu will run smoother as Vista.
Anyway, here are some examples where you can search:

  • The real difference between iPad Mini & iPad Mini Retina

I was window-shopping on the Apple-direct store's "refurbished & clearance" web site, and noticed that iPad Mini and iPad Mini with Retina Display are now available for resale there.
If I want to use an iPad Mini for certain functions, such as:
1: checking e-mail and address books while on-the-road
2: using an AppleTV and adaptors to wirelessly give presentations via Airplay to business meetings via HDTVs and projector-screen rigs
3: giving one-on-one image presentations for business/personal discussions using the tablet directly
4: consulting maps, weather forcasts and various light web-browsing
5: dappling in art tablet apps, note-writing, and math (calculator apps)
6: using the iPad as an entertainment device (playing music, watching movies/TV)
... then what is the real difference, functionally, between the iPad Mini and the iPad Mini with Retina Display?

  • Is the Mac Mini's mini-optical limit of 96 kHz/24 bit output a software or hardware limitation?

I'm interested in using a Mac Mini as a transport for hi-res music up to 192/24 by connecting it to a seperate DAC using TOSLINK. I believe that when running OS X the output from the mini-optical jack is limited to 96/24. My question is whether by running Linux  or Windows (via Bootcamp) I can get around the 96/24 limit, or whether the limit is due to hardware. If running Linux, I'd probably use XMBC to play the music and control it  using the XMBC Remote ap for iphone.
Also, I'd love to know if anyone else is using a similar setup, and if so, how it's working out.

Unfortunately, my 2010 Mini I use as an HTPC is interfaced
via HDMI to my Yamaha Rx, so really can't give any recommendations.
However, as with all audio gear, these devices can range from
a few dollars to nearly a thousand (or more).  To see what I mean,

  • New Mac Mini - NO MINI DVI TO VGA!!

Apple why on earth can I not choose the VGA adapter over the HDMI in my order? Your margins are fat enough as they are, now if I need/want this Mac Mini I gotta chuck/ebay the HDMI adapter and buy the VGA adapter to get it to work on our VGA displays.
Please offer at point of sale which adapter is required, I bet you any money there are far more VGA displays out there than HDMI's especially in the school's environment where the mac mini is the perfect product for IT admins to wedge Mac's in to the PC room.
Oh and while I'm at it. Give us front panel USB ports!

Sorry, but I for one have no idea what you're talking about. Apple doesn't even offer an HDMI adapter, so there's no way they could in any fashion be forcing you to get one. Perhaps you're referring to the mini-DVI to DVI adapter that is included? If so, then Apple's clearly including the adapter that's going to be most applicable to the majority of users (many if not most modern monitors and current televisions supporting DVI). You can submit your comments to Apple via the feedback page:
    http://www.apple.com/feedback/macmini.html
but I would doubt that they will not start including the VGA adapter. At best they might remove the DVI adapter and just let people choose, but my guess is that they won't want to ship the Mac mini with no way at all to connect a monitor. Given the relatively low price of the VGA adapter for those who need it, I wouldn't expect any sort of change. But you can offer your suggestion.
You can submit your suggestion re. front-panel USB ports through the feedback form as well.

  • Home Hub 3 - Slow Booting - min 10 mins to get a u...

My Infinity setup is a rocketship. Needed a change to an 'N' class PCI wireless card in the PC, but it is smokey.....reliable 20+ MB/sec download, 7MB/sec upload. And it hasn't been installed for 10 days yet, and the engineer reckons that the service settles down properly after baout 10 days.  Yeah, right
The only blot on the electronic horizon is that my HomeHub3 takes ages to connect once it's powered on. I reckon that the minimum time form switching it on to a useable broadband connection at the PC is 10 minutes, and generally it's 15-20 minutes.  And that includes seveeral minutes of messing about with the completley useless browser pages that the HH3 puts up ..... giving rickall info except sometimes it changes the admin username.....and sets it to exaclt what it was before. Duh.
Anyway, it is a pain in the rump to go through this grief every time I start up - every time I want to do a bit of internet shopping or whatever, it's taking longer to start the BB link than to find and order the shopping. Grrrrrrrrr....
Can anyone tell me: is my HH3 DOnald Ducked, or are all of the Infinity connections as scrappy to start as mine?
    Yours in Hope...

    I was going tosay:
Turning the Active NTE on/off not the HH3 will cause IP profile change via DLM s as that is what maintains the synch rate and ithe IP profile is based on fluctuating synch rates.
Turningthe HH3 off will simply drop the PPP session and give you a new IP on restart
    However that's only partially true.
DLM as writtten up in sin 498 is based on the synch rates and sets the profiles on BT openreaches ssytems hwoever sin 495 which describes the BT Wholesale side goes on to say:
Unlike other WBC (Wholesale Broadband Connect) access technologies, WBC FTTC accesses use the PPP (“Point-to-Point
Protocol”) session establishment to inform the BT Wholesale BRAS of the Openreach line
rate. It is therefore essential that the PPP session is re-started every time the VDSL line retrains.
To ensure this, the PPP / L2TP timeout values must be set to less than 20 seconds.
ie everytime your HH3 establishs a new PPP session the BRAs isinformed of the current synch speed. Given that (certainly judging by my event logs) the PPP is remotely reset on a daily basis then IMHO turning it off manually makes no difference.
Mind you I can never understand why someone would would turn their router off before going to bed ;o)
DISCLAIMER: although I work in the industry I do not work for BT and any opinions given are purely my own.

  • Mac Mini & Mac Mini Server

    Hi
I would like to know the "suitability" of Mac Mini or Mac Mini Server for web hosting (multiple domain/site) purpose. Some basic assumptions include : budget less than USD$5, user base / concurrent access less than 500, hosted at data centre with average bandwidth (not sure at the moment though).
Basically, I am disappointed with the purchase experience with Windows server. I have ready cash but the reseller seems no so keen. Perhaps, I am not the big spender. I wanted Windows server is because my developer is "brained-wash" in Windows world. He uses the standard PHP, mySQL related stuff. So I am trying to "brain-wash" him to Mac but it's a challenging task for me with little knowledge on the subject matter.
I need to know if Mac Mini and or server is "powerful" as compared with Windows server. I know it is not a very "fair" question but if I know there is very few people use such, then I more or less know the answer.
    HTH.

    Some things to consider.
The mini server will consume low power, generate little heat, and can be packed densely into a data center, achieving high levels of clustering or redundancy.  The flash storage is plenty fast but not spacious.  They are also cheap enough to buy two to form a level of redundancy, especially if you are using a load balancer.
However, Mavericks Server no longer includes MySQL.  This download you must do yourself.  PHP and Apache are present but Apple is not always the fastest to patch these two products.  You can replace the stack with a MAMP install which might serve you well.  Server.app does not expose all the Apache features that a hosting service may want/need.  However, you can edit the conf file manually.  If you are planning on giving your customers remote access, FTP is hobbled in Mavericks and you need to do a ton of work (or buy something else) to get multi-tenant chroot.
Regarding "powerful"... If you are using the device for a single task, then the issue falls to the performance of the network card in comparison to your internet connection speed.  If you are getting a 100 MB connection then the possible concurrent requests will never saturate the server.  This assumes that your HTML and images are optimized and you are not sending out a bunch of 1 MB GIFs.  Also, the consideration is Apache vs IIS.  Apple provides Apache and a simple interface for "casual" web services, usually one site or to support its own services.
Keep in mind that there are many Linux solutions that exist in which the cost of hardware might be equal to or less than the mini.  And in this case, you are getting the raw LAMP stack that you can more fully customize and patch.

    2. Click Address Book on the left. If you see any blank addresses under Shipping Addresses, make the visible address your default, and then delete the blank address.
    3. Click Phone Numbers on the left, delete all phone numbers, and save your changes. When you successfully place an iPhoto order, your phone number will be copied from iPhoto to My Info.
    4. Check Apple ID, Email, Subscriptions, and Contact Prefs and make any necessary corrections. Save your changes.
    5. Now open iPhoto.
    6. Select a photo and choose Order Prints from the Share menu.
    7. Click Account Info and sign in using your Apple ID and password. If you are unable to log in, try changing your password in My Info using the directions in step 1 above. Then return to step 6 and try again.
    8. Click Edit Shipping and choose Add New Address from the Address pop-up menu.
    9. Add the desired address into the fields, making sure to create a new label, such as "Home." Then select "Make this my default address" and click OK.
    10. Now delete any other addresses listed by selecting them and clicking the Delete This Address button. You should now have only your default "Home" shipping address left.
You should now be able to submit your iPhoto order successfully. If the difficulty persists, please reply to give me the exact error message you see. I will do my best to help you resolve the issue. Thank you for your patience.
