Mini can see iMac, but iMac can't see Mini

Hi there.,
I upgraded both my iMac and Mini (iMac I use in study, Mini as a media centre) to 10.6, but I had a number of issues with running 10.6 on the Mini - mainly the widely reported, er, 'issue' surrounding the remote control and the unbearable DVD playback in Front Row. Therefore I now have:
iMac running 10.6.1
Mini running 10.5.x (the latest version)
In the past I had no issues with screen sharing, however I can no longer see the Mini on the list of Shared devices in the Finder on my iMac. I was expecting the Mini to not have joined the wi-fi network as it had fallen asleep, however when going into the living room to check it was on the network and has my iMac listed there as a shared device which it has no problems connecting to.
Very annoying as I set up downloads from BBC iPlayer during the day (before my BT throttle back iPlayer traffic in the evening!). It's much easier to do this from my desktop iMac than going into my living room, powering up the TV and squinting at the TV set as I navigate the BBC iPlayer website with a keyboard on my knees!
Does anyone know if this is a some kinda one way 10.5 Vs 10.6 compatibility issue?
Thanks

What you are experiencing is very common in Sno. You will have to use connect to server to find you mini. Once you connect the mini may show up in finder for a while, but usually will disappear. Connect to server isn't so bad as you can store the various servers in the connect to server "text box." I am the only one I know of who solved the problem. The only problem is that I don't know how I did it. I started out by not letting any of my machines sleep and when they would appear in finder, I would access the server several times. Maybe good old Sno learned, but I doubt it. Anyway, now I have 4 wins (2 Vista and 2 Win7) and an iBook that I can see consistently in finder. I still can’t let one of the Wins sleep though. Go figure.

  • IMac can see Mini's network, but Mini can't see iMac's network

Hi every nice person in there that have certainly helped a lot of pepople!
What is happening to me is when...
1.On each computer (Mini and iMac), I Open and login
2.On each computer, I Activate airport in the top-menu-bar
3.On the iMac, in Airport in top-menu-bar I Create a new Network - Name, Auto, Options WEP with working password, OK
4.On the Mini, in airport in top-menu-bar I Select the created Network and enter the WEP password
5.On the Mini, if I rapidly go to "Network", whom it's over "Mackintosh HD" in the sidebar of a Finder's window, I see two File flashing one time:
    "My Network" and
    "WORKGROUP".
But, when the Mini Create a network, it works perfectly.
    Can you help?
iMac G5 and Mac Mini Mac OS X (10.4.6)

In order for a computer to show up in that network window, Personal File Sharing must be turned on the Network preferences (System Prefs > Network >Services). Once Personal File Sharing is turned on for both computers, give it a minute and they should both show up fine.
    Good luck,
    Jason

  • MY IMAC don't see the main server and all the network! I didn't nothing on his system, but since some days it is out of network on my company. And what is curious is that others computers can see mine. Some one can help me??

My IMAC lost the network, it can be seen but cannot see! What I have to do?

    You're welcome.
Voicemail is left at your carrier's server. That will continue to work unless you report your iPhone as lost or stolen with your carrier.
You may never find it again and you can't if the iPhone remains offline or out of service which means the iPhone is powered off or doesn't have cellular reception.

  • How can I see the total number of books (size of library) on iBooks on my iMac and IPad Mini?

I have installed iBooks on both my iMac (main library) as well as on my iPad Mini Retina. I can't seem to find where to see the total number of books in each library? Can anyone enlighten me please? I can see the covers, lists etc. but nowhere how many books I have total in each library (Total: X number of books stored) or something like that. Can someone point me where this information is viewable?

Did you have 'find my iPhone' activated on it? Because if you go to iCloud.com you can log in there and you can remotely lock or wipe your device.  From what I hear, the police won't do anything about going and fetching stolen iPads and iPhones, but if you have find my iphone/ipad/ipod/mac turned on then it will give you a map of where it is.
Just keep in mind that sometimes iTunes does ask you for your password regardless, and only a few weeks ago apple brought in security questions, so everyone had to fill in security questions for their iTunes account to make it more secure If all else fails, ring Apple cusomer support and they might be able to bar your account or something, however you may have to make a new account (the might be able to set it up so you have all your previous information on a new account)
    Hope this helps!

  • We have an iMac OSX Lion.I received a CD with photos on it by a friend of mine. She scanned the photos to her computer and gave the disk to me . I installed it yesterday. I can hear the disk spinning but no pictures come up. What would be the problem?

We have an iMac OSX Lion.  I received a CD with photos on it from a friend of mine. My friend scanned the photos to her computer and gave the disc to me. I can hear the disc spinning but the pictures aren't coming up to view. Before having the iMac I had a Dell computer.  I was able to view the photos at that time. Is there something I can do so I can view them on my iMac? Thank you.

The information I see in disk utility is the following: MacIntosh HD superdrive. 1TBST31000528A S Media

  • IMac can see my Macbook Air but not my Macbook

Recently upgraded iMac and Macbook to 10.5.8, Macbook Air running 10.5.7
Both laptops connected to iMac via Netgear wireless router.
    All was fine until yesterday.
Now my iMac can't see the Macbook but can see the Macbook Air when I go to Finder/Network on the iMac.
Curiously, the Macbook and the Macbook Air can both see the iMac when I go to Finder/Network on the two laptops.
Have unplugged the wireless router from the mains for five mins to reboot it.
Can confirm that Security/Firewall on the Macbook is set to "Allow All Incoming Connections"
    Anyone any suggestions???

  • Single account on imac can see but cannot connect over network

This one is driving me crazy:
As of this morning I cannot connect to other computers in our network. Using other accounts on the same imac is no problem, but mine simply refuses.
I can see the rest of the network, connect to the internet, print, etc., but if I try to actually connect to another machine I get the error that it cannot find the original item (the error is in Dutch so I cannot give the litteral version)
Network, firewall and sharing settings seem to be the same as the other, working, accounts as far as I can tell.

OK, we found the problem. my permissions were screwed up...

  • Can't see external HD on Mac Mini from iMac

For months I had an alias on my iMac desktop that opened my external HD, connected to my Mac Mini downstairs.
It worked flawlessly. Both machines on Leopard.
I upgraded my iMac to Snow Leopard on release day (Mac Mini is still Leopard). I haven't connected to the external HD from the iMac since, but I tried it today and it can't find it.
I can browse the Mac Mini, and connect as my admin account and browse the entire Mac Mini HD, but the External HD just doesn't show up.
The external HD is still working fine on the mac mini itself, I just cant see it remotely.
Snow Leopard issue or something else?
    Cheers

Apple told me that the HD drive doesn't show up on other user's page, as it has been hidden on purpose by apple, and only shows up on the main user of the computer, Are you the main user on the computer, if so maybe a problem but if you are an added user it just shows up a blank screen

  • My iMac can not see my mini Mac via Airport extreme using host name, only via IP address. What am I doing wrong ?

I have an iMac and a mini Mac attached to the same Airport extreme. It would appear that Bonjour works because I can see the hostname of the mini Mac server in Finder on the iMac.
But if I type in the host name (myminimac.private) in the Safari browser at the iMac it can not find the mini mac. However if I type in the IP address of the mini mac server it can see the see it.
It used to work but I must have done something to mess it up.
    Anybody any suggestions ?

You have the wrong card. You need the original AirPort card for your G4.
...how the **** do i get the Superdrive to open up so i can put in a CD/DVD?
If the keyboard has a media eject key, press that. If not, hold down F12.

  • I have recently deleted several old backups from a portable usb drive (formated NTFS-3g(MacFUSE). The macmini can´t see it anymore but my imac does?

I have recently deleted several old backups from a portable usb drive (formated NTFS-3g(MacFUSE). The macmini can´t see it anymore but my imac does? The usb ports of the mac mini can still see my other drives formated with FAT32.

Thanks, it is working now, after I have installed NTFS3G.
I did not format the drive. I was using it as purchased to do backups for a while. After the corporate backup system was working correctly again I was using the disk at home for my homevideos. Since the corporate backup was running correctly for ten days in a row, I have decided to delete those backupfiles on the usb drive. Each backup was a folder consisting of almost 30GB data, mirroring the servers harddrive which is running on windows xp. After I have deleted those folders, only the video files remaind and I could not open the drive on the macmini anymore.

  • If I buy a mac mini now, can i see it on a imac 21.5 inch i got last year for christmas?\

I want a mac mini but i don't want to pay $1,000 for a thunderbolt display, but i also dont want to scrap my imac since it has gotten really slow even after i cleaned up the hard drive

Yes, using a Thunderbolt to Thunderbolt cable in Target Display Mode.
see > iMac (Mid 2011) and later: Target Display Mode does not work with Mini DisplayPort cable
also see > Thunderbolt ports and displays: Frequently asked questions (FAQ)
Can you tell us more about your 2011 iMac, what App's you run on it and why you think it already needs to be replaced? Plus please tell us that you did not load MacKeeper or some other AV junkware on it?
It should not already be that slow, I have various Intel Mac's ranging from 2006 thru 2010 and none are what I would call slow.

  • Air drop problem: My macbook can see the imac but not vice versa.

I had the same problem on my mac mini.
Makes sure your computer is on the following list.
Only the following Apple computers are able to take advantage of the Air Drop feature:
MacBook Pro (Late 2008 or newer)
MacBook Air (Late 2010 or newer)
    MacBook (Late 2008 or newer)
    iMac (Early 2009 or newer)
Mac mini (Mid 2010 or newer)
Mac Pro (Early 2009 with AirPort Extreme card, or Mid 2010)

Remote App on iPad connects but drops after about  20 mins. Need to turn  off wait about 1 minute, then turn on wifi on iMac before it can reconnect. Need some help please.
Already gone through troubleshooting guide a zillion times. Thanks.

This worked for me... A little time consuming but once you get rolling it goes GREAT... Thanks....
I got my artwork and saved it to my Desktop
Opened up Microsoft Paint and clicked on "File" and "Open" and found it to get it on the screen to resize it
Clicked "resize" and a box for changing it opened up
Checked the box "Pixels" and "Unchecked maintain aspect ratio"
Set Horizontal for 640 and Vertical for 480
Clicked on "OK" and went back to "File" and did a "Save As" and chose JPEG Picture
It came up "File Already Existed" and clicked "OK" (really did not care about the original artwork I found because wrong size)
Went to iTunes and on the movie right clicked on "Get Info", clicked on "Details", then "Artwork"
Go to the little box on the top left that shows your old artwork and click on it to get the little blue border to appear around it and hit "Delete" to make it gone
Click on "Add Artwork" and find it where you put the one from above on your Desktop and hit "Open" and OK and your new artwork is now there and all good.
Sounds like a lot of steps to follow but after around 5 or so you will fly through it. This worked perfect on my iPhone 6 Plus and I have artwork on my Home Videos now.

  • Purchased Pages 09 yesterday. It shows up in my iTunes purchase history, but is not in my App Store list of purchased apps.  It was purchased and downloaded to my 13 macbook.  I want to install it on my iMac, but can't do so until I see it in App Store.

I purchased Pages 09 through the App Store on June 22 from my Macbook.  It downloaded and installed, but is not in my list of AppStore purchases.  I need it to show up in my App Store purchase history, so that I may download and install to my iMac where I do more of my work when at home.  THe app does not show up in App Store purchase history on either machine, however it does show up as purchased under my iTunes account.  Yes, I could probably just copy the application from one machine to the other, but if it doesn't show up as an App Store purchase I won't receive any product updates.
Should I refute the credit card charge through my credit card company to get Apple to fix the issue?

    (2) That option partially works, but is not acceptable in the long term.
    (3) I do indeed now have the application on both machines.  If I look for the Pages 09 application in the App Store application, it shows up as installed.  However, it does not show up in my purchase history!  This is critical as far as I'm concerned because I will not see security updates or feature updates unless it shows up as purchased from the App Store.  In fact, I'm hoping that I'll get a free upgrade to Pages 11 (if it comes out soon) based on how recent I've made the purchase of Pages 09.
    (1) good news
    (2) I can't decide for you. Remember that I am an end user like you.
    (3) (a) I never saw security update applied to an iWork application.
    (b) for the update, as the app if flagged as installed you will get the update if Apple deliver an ultimate one (update 9.0.6)
    (c) don't dream. Apple never did that. What they do is to deliver a free upgrade to buyers of a machine when the corresponding order was delivered after the product announcement (example : Lion if you order a mac to morrow)
Pages '11 (maybe it will be Pages '12) will not be an update but an upgrade and in such case, we must pay.
I got the described behavior for the app named "The Unarchiver" and, applying what I described, the app behave now as it must do.
Please, click my blue name to get my address then send a mail to this one.

  • Recently I bought a mini DVI to HDMI converter  from eBay for my iMac 21.5 Mid 2011, but only later I realised that it does not have the mini DVI port in that. How can I connect my iMac to a LG smart TV through a HDMI cable?

This is the picture of all the ports from my iMac
This is the mini DVI to HDMI converter which I bought from ebay. And I have the HDMI cable to connect it to my TV
Could anyone please suggest me a solution how I could connect my iMac to the LG smart TV? Also I need to know if this transmits the audio as well to the smart TV?
Suggestions are welcomed. I really appreciate and thank you for your time

I would suggest looking into a Thunderbolt to HDMI connector. In this case, you may be able to use the TV as an external monitor. For this option, please confirm through additional research. I have not tested it personally.
You can also use an Apple TV, which connects with HDMI. In this case, you can use Airplay Mirroring. Not all Macs support Airplay Mirroring, so you need to check first. I have a Mid-2011 27" iMac, and it supports Airplay Mirroring. I don't use it often because my TV is in another room, but I just tried it and it worked. It had to change the screen resolution to work well, so I don't know if I would want to use it as my day to day monitor. http://support.apple.com/kb/ht5404
