Mini CDs

I'm sorry if this is already addressed but I've searched to no avail. Is there an adaptor for the mac that will allow me to burn onto a mini cd? The hockey rink shaped ones that people use with products like a business card. I know with a pc you just put it in the tray that slides out. However with the DVD/CD drive being built in on a mac, I'm assuming I need some sort of adaptor. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

  • Burning mini CDs or DVDs

How can I burn mini CDs or DVDs on my Macpro? Do I need to purchase some type of an adapter?
    Thanks.

Press the Eject key and look at the tray. If it has an indented region to keep a small disc centered, then it is OK.

  • Using mini CDs in the macbook pro?

Is it safe to put a small mini CD into a macbook pro? I was not sure what would happen since there is not a tray to place it into.
    Thanks.

No, you cannot use anything other than standard discs in your MBP.

  • Can anyone recommend a Mac-compatible reader proven to successfully read SIM cards? Amazon doesn't seem to have anything with easily-installable software (mini-CDs) that allows one to actually copy data on SIM to computer.

Thank you in advance for leads.

    Thank you!

All new drives need to be partitioned GUID and formatted Mac OS Extended, Journaled before they can be used.
OK, is that an option I'll be prompted to by the OS or do I have to "tell" that to...Disk Utilities (?)
If cloning is your purpose then use Disk Utility's Restore option. It will clone the drives and their Recovery HD partitions automatically.
I didn't know that Disk Utility had an option for cloning a bootable drive...is it better than CCC? (I have used neither one) I really would like to save $40 and avoid downloading additional software/applications...please if you don't mind...what option would that be once I click on "Disk Utility"? If you know of a good link or reliable article on the topic that will work for me too.
Test a clone be trying to boot the computer from it.
Any bootable drive in any bay can be used to boot the computer. Use Startup Drive preferences to set the desired boot volume.
Erase the target and try again.
But if the computer fails to start because I didn't create a good copy, how do I go back? Keyboard shortcuts? I keep reading that a wired keyboard must be used...and that's scary. If that's true, could I hook up any of my Windows based keyboards via USB?
Erase the drive and install OS X. You cannot use any software installed by the prior owner that was purchased via the App Store including OS X. You must start from scratch. (this actually is 5B rather than item 6.)
Well, he created an Admin account for me and I have been handling updates and everything with the new password he created for me. I wonder if I could access the Apple Store with my ID though...it's all under my name in that computer though, so I figure that at the Apple Store I'd just enter my ID...I guess, I have not tried that yet
    Yes.

  • Using side loading dvd drive with mini dvds

I am setting up a holiday project for my neices and nephew to make video christmas cards using photos and video from all year. The video is stored on the mini dvds that my sister uses in her Sony video camera. I have never tried to load a mini dvd into the imac since it doesn't have a tray. Has anyone ever done this?
    Please advise.

You should not use the mini-DVs or mini-CDs in a slot loading iMac. If you do insert one of those discs you may have to disassemble the iMac and the drive to get the disc out.
BTW, this is the discussion area for the iMac G4.
    The iMac G4 has a tray-loading drive.
If your iMac doesn't have a tray it is not an iMac G4.

i'm newt to apple and have just put a mini cd in my imac and it wont eject.....help

As you've already found, you can't use mini cds in slot-loading drives (which is what Apple uses, as well as many PCs now).

  • How do I read a mini CD

    Hi
I just purchased a 52 in 1 card reader and it comes with the drivers on a mini CD.
How do I get this into the disk slot on my new Macbook Pro?
    Steve

The internal superdrive won't accept mini-CDs. I'm not entirely sure why since, a) mini-CDs have been around for quite some time, and b) there are other slot-loading drives that handle mini-CDs.
Regardles, a USB storage device (such as a card reader) ought not need any sort of drivers/software at all to use. The reader itself should not appear as an icon on your desktop. Without a card inserted into the reader, you ought not get any indication the reader exists unless you use the System Profiler tool to see what's connected to the USB bus.
However, when you insert a card, it should appear on the desktop as a disk (if it's readable on the Mac). If the card is blank and unformatted, you'll need to start up Disk Utility to format the card.
The USB standard for storage media is very simple. All UNIX systems (including OS X and Linux) treat all USB storage devices similarly and drivers are never required.

  • Mini CD ... will it run on an iMac G5

My brother sent me a mini-CD, a "pocket" CD. He thought it would run on my iMac G5. I put it in and no icon appeared. Pressing eject didn't eject it either. Had to restart and hold eject to get it out.
Does anyone know if the smaller, mini CDs are supposed to run on iMac G5s?
    Thanks
    CCCarol

    Hi ccCarol,
Never load a mini CD into a slot-loading drive, it might damage the drive. See Using nonstandard discs in optical drives.

  • Using small CD-ROM's with Mac Mini

Can I insert a small or mini CD_ROM into the Mac Mini slot? I bought a USB turntable and the software for it is on a mini CD-ROM. I am worried about inserting it.
    Anyone know?
    Thanks

There are adapters available that snap around mini CDs to make them the same size as a normal one.
You might have to shop around as you don't want any that make the CD thicker than 1.2mm, and it might void your warranty if you use it. Apple itself recommends you don't use mini CDs at all.

  • I have a mini-CDR containing photos shot with a Sony Mavica camera in 2004. How can I access the photos from my iMac?

Will my iMAC DVD accept mini-CDR's or do I need to convert to standard sized DVD?

Slot loading drives do not accept mini CDs. You either need it transferring to a standard CD or get an external tray-loading CD/DVD drive.

  • Since the MAC Mini has a slot for CD insertion I cannot visually tell if

Since this MAC Mini has a slot for inserting CDs how can I tell if it will accept and read video dics that are routinely 3 1/2 inches in diameter? These are discs used in MINI DVD camcorders.

You cannot use the mini CDs in your Mini. If you try to do so, you can do serious damage to the mechanism -- and they won't work, regardless.
If you need to use odd-shaped or smaller CDs, an external firewire tray-loading drive would be a solution.

  • Mac OS X Server in Mac Mini

I recently bought an used mac mini and when I turn it on it asks me for the user login information which I do not have. When I get to the login menu it says MAc OS X SERVER, So I guess it has the Server installed?(I don't understand much about the "server") ... I tried restoring the mac mini with the mac mini CDs but I guess since it has OS X Server installed it won't let me do it because I keep getting the Kernel Panic. Is there anyway I can restore the mac?
    thanks!

This would be better asked in a different forum like http://discussions.apple.com/category.jspa?categoryID=158
    but since you're here...
If you boot from the disks thatcame with the Mini, you should be able to erase the HD using disk utility. You should then be able to install OS X. You can also skip DiskUtility, and choose the erase & install option.
If you're getting panics while trying this, you are likely looking at a bad HD or some other bad hardware (like memory, or even the logicboard).

  • I have inserted a mini cd in my Mac Book Pro and cannot eject it. I have tried re-starting with F12 depressed and re-starting with the mouse pad depressed.

I have inserted a mini cd in my cd drive but the drive did not detect it; I am unable to eject the cd. I have tried re-starting with F12 depressed and also re-starting with the mouse pad depressed.
I am in a country where I belive there is no Apple support - Azerbaijan.
Apart from a tin opener, any other methods for extracting the mini cd.
I only found out that mini cds are not suitable after inserting this one and then reading 2 help manuals!!!

Take it to a place that repairs computers if you're not close to any apple authorized dealer.
You user guide clearly states that you can not use smaller CDs in your Macbook.
Lesson learned.  Hopefully a repair shop can get it out for you.
Do not try to take it out yourself.  You might cause more damage than good to your macbook.
    Good luck.

  • Can i use mini cd in super drive

Can I use , play mini cd in the super drive ?

You should not use mini CDs in slot-loading CD/DVD drives which of course includes the super-drive fitted to MacBook Pro laptops, the super-drive fitted to older iMacs, the super-drive fitted to older Mac mini computers and the external USB super-drive.
The super-drive fitted to older Mac Pro computers is a tray loading drive and it would be safe to use a mini CD in it.
Note: For the same reasons you should not use CDs or DVDs with paper stick-on labels in slot-loading drives.
