Mini display port to DVI not working

The mini display port of my late 2009 27" iMac is not working with DVI.  Using the same monitor, DVI cable, and mini display to DVI adapter, I can connect my Air with no problems.  So the monitor, adapter, and cable are fine.  I can also connect my iMac to the same monitor using a VGA cable and a mini display to VGA adapter.  So the problem clearly seems to be with my iMac.  Has anyone had similar problems?  Any advice?  I think the image quality of DVI is substantially better than VGA so I really would like to get this working.  But I don't think the difference is worth carrying my 27" monster into the Apple Store. I could buy a mini display to HDMI adapter, but I would rather not buy yet another adapter (I think I have about 15 already with my various idevices) - and it might not work either. The DVI setup is simple and really should be working.  I bought a monitor and also a HD TV with DVI ports specifically for this.  Thanks.

Hello,
Using the VGA connector, what resolution is set on the Monitor?
Is there any input choices on the Monitor for port or source?

  • Belkin Mini Display Port to HDTV not working anymore with MBP

I have a MBP V 10.7.5 and I was using a Belkin Mini Display Port to HDTV. This was working perfectly a few months ago and now when I try to connect, My Mac screen will turn blue for a minute but the TV will read "No Signal". There is nothing wrong with the cord and I'm afraid that an update on my computer messed things up. Does anyone have any idea whats wrong or how I can fix this without getting a new cord? Thanks!

  • Mini display port to hdmi not working

I recently purchased a new mac pro (2011). I have been trying to connect it to my HD ready tv using a MiniDisplayPort to HDMI cable (from Cablematters). However when I go to system prferences and choose Sound, on the mac, the TV is not showing up in the list of available output sound devices.
    Anyone able to help please?

This is probably NOT the solution you're looking for, but use a 3.5mm to 3.5mm (headphone jack) cable to transmit sound. I use stereo speakers with my setup, sounds far better than the TV.

  • Why my new Mac mini  DVI dual link mini display port adapter doesn't work  with my 30"display (LG W3000H)?

    Hello There
Can any of you advise on the below? Tried to connect Mac mini with a 30" display through a DVI dual link mini display port adapter. For the first try Mac mini go connected to the display, then i've chosen the highest resolution (2560x1600, native) and right at that moment they got disconected. Since then the display stays black. What can be the issue, is it possible DVI dual link mini display port adapter is not compatible with 30"display (LG W3000H)? It works with DVI male-male cable plus DVI HDMI adapter as long as the resolution stays under 1280x800. Any idea is much appreciated.
    Thank you, Vera

    Hi,
I can report that my Mac Mini Intel Duo connected instantly and without even having to set it up (on the first try) with my 1366x768 native resolution DELL 50" Plasma Display. It's so beautiful that I just want to stand there and fondle my HDTV as I drool haplessly like Homer Simpson with a doughnut in his mouth. Seriously, no problems.... guess I bought the right cable (ebay).
Before you buy a Duo, make sure you're aware of the airport and bluetooth issues that so many (maybe everyone who tries to use them together) are having. It seems that bluetooth interferes with airport, or maybe the other way around. Anyway, it's messed up. Also, Airport reception is generally VERY poor with the new Intel Mac Mini.
Despite these things, I still love mine (I now have 2 base stations and an airport express for my powerhouse wireless needs, and an external DLink bluetooth-2-USB dongle solved the bluetooth/airport issues... in my case).

  • Mini display port to dvi or vga adaptor?

I currently use a MacBook Pro and want to use the mini display port to my 24 inch Samsung LCD screen. My question is should I use the mini display port to DVI or VGA? My Monitor has both ports on back. I know that DVI is Digital and suppose to be the superior source compared to VGA analog, but I have only used VGA when using my Monitor with my old PC and it seemed fine enough for me.
If, I do go the DVI digital route will it be that much better graphics compared to just using VGA?
Finally, has anyone hooked up a mini display port to either DVI or VGA adaptor into an LCD monitor? What are your thoughts, concerns, advice etc. I realize its a very easy thing to do, but seem tied up between using DVI or VGA port.
    Thanks,
    DH

Diffferences are not remarkable but DVI is indeed better. I wuold then choose DVI.

  • Mini display Port To HDMI not fully working with tv

Ok So, I am using and 13" macbook Pro Alu (march 2009) and a 40" Samsung LED 120hz 1080p screen (Brand spankin New!). I am connecting the two between a dynex mini Display port adapter to HDMI out. Then have an HDMI cable Running from the adapter to the TV.
    My Problem:
When i connect the two together The output to the TV doesn't Fit the whole Screen. There is about a 4 inch Gap on the sides that are just black and about an 1 1/2 inch gap on the top and bottom. This was how it was on my old tv and was hoping it would just work better on the new tv. The old tv was 720p 32 inch toshiba. but it is very frustrating because i use ableton and it defeats the purpose of having such a large display if it doesnt work properly. ive read a couple forums that were similar but non were the exact problem nor the right solution. I downloaded switchresX and it gives me higher resolutions to output but it does not change the gap. Im starting to think it may be a setting on the tv but i have yet to find anything that with fix it on either the settings on the TV nor the computer. please help thank you

When you're in Extended desktop mode (not mirror), and you Open System Preferences > Display, there should be a preference on your main screen and one on the TV.  The one on the TV should have the underscan setting like this:

  • Mini display port to vga not detected

    Hi,
Can't put the mini displayport to VGA adapter working in my macbook pro 13" running snow leopard.
To debug I try a mini displayport to DVI and it works fine, so I think that it is not an hardware problem, unless VGA adapter uses extra pins from the mini display port. I think that VGA is active and DVI is a passive adapter.
When I connect the VGA adapter to the mac without the monitor the mac LCD flashes blue one time. If I connect the monitor cable it flashes blue 3 or 4 times.
The external monitor always says no signal.
The mac does not seems to detect the adapter, even running the firmware update it can not find the adapter. I try it with and without charger pluged.
The adapter is original from apple and works in other computer.
Can anyone give some help here?
    Thanks.

Called Apple Support and they solved my issue.
    1) Restart the computer in Safe Mode with display attached (shut down and restart while holding down shift key).
The display showed up without distortion.
    2) Change the display to my desired preferences (dimensions and refresh rate).
    3) Restart computer. ...and it works like a charm.

  • Mini display port to DVI problems

    Hello community,
I have a question regarding the connection from an iMac via the mini display port to a DVI input at a TFT monitor. I have an older TFT monitor and now I connected the iMac with this monitor via mini display port -> DVI adapter -> DVI cable -> monitor.
It is quite a simple connection, but actually when I force Mac OSX to detect external monitors it does not react at all. Mac OSX behaves as if there is no connection to an external monitor.
I already told this to my reseller and they told me that the adapter is not working correctly and they gave me another one. With that one I have exactly the same problem and now I'm quite sure, that it is not a problem of the adapter, but somehow my iMac does not find the external monitor.
Is there probably an underlying problem I do not understand yet?
By the way, my very old Macbook White has no problems detecting the monitor. If I use the older video output it works fine, but the new output at my iMac 21,5 inch does not work with my monitor.
My question is, why does it not work and what kind of monitor do I need, that it can be connected with my iMac (via DVI)?

Is the adapter plugged in all the way in the Mini DisplayPort?  It takes more force than you might expect.

  • 2011 mini-thunderbolt port to monitor not working

I have a 2011 i5 Mini which I am using as a media server - hdmi port to my tv and the Thunderbolt port to my 1920x1080 monitor.  The problem is with the Thunderbolt port.
I understood that I could use a Mini Displayport (MDP) adapter and go to the monitor either as VGA or DVI.  Hooked up the MDP-VGA adapter and all was good for the last couple of weeks:  both the monitor and the TV works and the monitor also worked fine with the TV off.
However, today, the monitor wouldn't show a signal.  Figuring it was the cheap monitor, it pulled it and hooked it to a 2010 mini and it worked correctly with dvi and vga.  Put it back on the 2011 Mini and tried a MDP-DVI adapter, but no joy.  Image came on the monitor for perhaps 2 seconds and then disolved to just white noise.  Re-booted with same result.
Pulled the HDMI cable that was going to the TV and used the supplied HDMI to DVI adapter to the monitor and it now works, but now I can't use the TV.
I am assuming that this is a trip to the Apple store for warranty work unless anyone has an idea to try.  BTW, the 2011 MIni is fully up to date according to Software Update.
    Thanks, all.
    Peter

Solved the problem with a new dvi to mini-display port cable from amazon.  My 2 adapters must be bad.

  • Mini display port to VGA not showing correctly on TV

I have a new 2012 (June) MacBookPro running 10.7.4 with a 2.5 GHz Intel i5 processor. Graphics  Intel HD Graphics 4000 512 MB.
I'm trying to connect a Toshiba flat screen TV to the computer via a mini display port to VGA adapter purchased from Apple with the computer. Sometimes I see 5 lines running down the screen. I can get the screen to show on the TV by changing resolutions and refresh rates (1280 x 768 at 60Hz) but the TV shows 5 partial screens on my laptop screen (between those different vertical lines). I feel like I'm looking at the beginnings of an abstract art piece.
All software is up to date.
    Any advice would be appreciated.

  • Is anyone else experiencing problems with the thunderbolt port on their Mac Mini's regarding using it to connect a second monitor? I've got the Mini Display Port to DVI-D adapter along with a DVI-D cable and I can't get an image on the second monitor.

I had an dual display image / setup working twice for a few seconds, but then it cut out. I think there may be a problem with the thunderbolt port.

As far as I can tell you have only listed that you have a DVI monitor connected to the Mini Displayport socket (i.e. the Thunderbolt socket) via presumably the Apple Mini Displayport to DVI adapter and a DVI to DVI cable.
You don't appear to have listed what the second monitor is and how it is connected (even though not working). As such I cannot tell what may be wrong.

  • Macbook Pro Mini Display Port To HDMI Not Connecting To Sony Bravia KDL-52XBR9 And Any HDMI TV's In My House

I have a Macbook Pro (Mid 2010) and recently purchased a mini DVI to HDMI cable. I was using it perfectly fine on my LG TV for a while but than one day I plugged it in and it just stopped working. The Macbook Pro screen would flash blue for a few seconds than return to normal as if nothing was plugged in. I tried detect displays and everything and it sill does not work. I tried it on 4 HDMI inputs on TV's in my house and none of them are working. Does anyone have any idea on what's wrong? I didn't change the settings at all. Just plugged it in than it stopped working. Anyone know whats wrong?

    Hi 1,
You are far from the first to experience this issue. An SMC Reset may resolve some video issues, although this scenario is not listed; still, I would try it: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964
