Mini Display supports Audio out on HDMI?

Hi,
http://support.apple.com/kb/ts3065
This tells that mini display supports audio out for hdmi. Does this apply for MBA?
I can read english pretty well so for those who wants to tell me the article states Macbook (13inch mid 2010) is not MBA, the product description states that moshi mini display supports audio out and MBA.
Some genius bar folks please advise.

Hi,
a loong look at the product desrciption here http://store.apple.com/us/product/H1824ZM/A?mco=MTgxMzM1NzE shows some '*' at "audio support".
And the '*' then clearly states that *Audio support is only available for MacBook Pro 13/15/17-in. mid-2010 release; iMac 21.5/27-in. early-2010 release".
So video with it and a MBA => yes ; audio with it and MBA => no.
Regards
Stefan

Run MDP to HDMI for picture. Use a cable like this to run sound from your audio out on your Mac to your TV's audio in.  That's about all  you can do.

  • I need to have audio out from HDMI and headphone jack simultaneously

I need to have audio out from HDMI and headphone jack simultaneously.
I seem to be able to select one or the other, but not both ? !
    Thanks

No. You can only use one sound output:
Why can't I select HDMI audio on my Mac mini?
If you connect an HDMI display or television to a Mac mini (Mid 2010 or later), you might not be able to select the HDMI audio device (in System Preferences > Sound > Output). This can happen if you also have headphones plugged in to the computer. Unplug the headphones to be able to select HDMI audio.

  • Multiple Audio out: usb dac audio out and hdmi out

Good afternoon everyone, I have a 2010 mac mini with the following audio set up.
    - A usb dac (xtreamer) connected to my stereo amplifier
    - an Hdmi cable to the tv to get  video and audio diretcly to the tv
Is it possibile by any chance to get simoultanesly audio output both from usb audio out and hdmi audio out???
In "midi preference panel" I tried to create a "virtual" sound card but i am not able to get sound simoultanesly. or via hdmi, or via usb.
this is quite disappointing because if I want to listen to music with the amplifier and then watching a simple video with mac mini and tv only I need to go back to the audio preferences and set up manually each time.
Is it possible to solve this issue???
Thanks a lot and gretings from Italy

I can select ATV audio out (Airplay setting) to either my Airport Express or my computer so it must be transmitting via airplay. Using a combination of Airserver, Airfoil and Airfoil Speakers I managed to get the ATV audio content on both my PC and my Airport Express at the same time but it cuts out the ATV audio.
My aim is to have a movie on ATV transmitting the Audio to ATV AND my stereo (which is hooked up to the Airport Express).
    Cheers

  • M73 Mini display port Audio

Does anybody know if the Thinkcentre M73 mini display port passes audio if I use a display port to HDMI cable? Thanks!Jasper

    Hello,
I have also have been trying to get audio to work via MDP to HDMI, and have been surfing groups to find out how but it seems that many people have had no luck.
But with a little trial and error, I found that the video sets itself up (plug and play) however the audio settings need selecting and hey presto the audio does work.
    Hope my maiden post helps.
    Regards Guy.

  • Audio out from HDMI port?

I have connected my TV and Booklet via a standard HDMI cable.  This same HDMI cable works fine with my DVD player.   When I use it with my booklet, only video seems to be sent to the TV via the HDMI cable.  Is the HDMI out port supporting only video, or audio as well? I understand the booklet supports HDMI 1.2, which should support an audio profile, as far as I know.
Let me know if you have been able to get audio to work over HDMI.
    thanks,
    John

I found your discussion attempting to find the answer to the same question.
I won 5 of these things at auction and wanted HDMI to be a selling point
I researched far and wide and now I think I have the answer now.
I had to reload the OS and  all the drivers for all 5 units
I read some of the replies to this topic and with some people saying that they had audio and I didn't, I felt that either I was crazy or someone is not truthful. so i had a thought ,
after about  the 3rd unit I tried to just try to hook it up to a TV bare without Nokia updated software
What do you know, it worked.
So I have come to the conclusion based upon using both units after testing them with and without the update, is with the stock driver provided, you will get the audio from the HDMI port; if you update the software from the updater(which I noticed it says the driver is MANDATORY)
    You will not.
There is a plus and minus on both occassions
With the graphics driver update you can scale your video once hook to an HDTV to full 1080p HD; but you wont get any audio (at least for now)
Without the update you will get the audio out , however you will only get the same native resolution as the netbook 720p
So contemplate which feature is more important you   and make your choice.
Higher picture quality(full HD) with the driver yet I need 2 cable  (HDMI AND 2.5 to RCA)
OR lower  resolution720p but audio as well
I hope this helps but i see my next challenge for both you and is to see if we can roll back the driver if we want audio over HDMI.

  • Expand mini to two audio out ports?

I am thinking about purchasing a Mac mini, but I noticed it only has one audio out port. I am using both audio outs on my Dual 1GB now - the audio out on the back panel and the headphone port on the mirror front. I use one for speakers and one to my stereo.
Is there a way to have two audio outs on a mini? I am not sure a Y-connector will work (impedance issues?), and an A/B switch will only give me output on one line at a time.
Any ideas? Some kind of 3rd-party device?

One option would be to use a Bluetooth headset, a second option would be to get a USB audio interface or USB speakers, and a third option would be to run speakers from your stereo system (many modern AV receivers support more than one set of speakers).
What are you trying to output? It sounds like two different thins at the same time?

  • G62-a50sf : (only) audio out over HDMI?

We have a G62-a50sf notebook at my gf's place that we'd like to use as the source for a (somewhat) audiophile audio set-up.  One possibility to get better-than-headphone-output into a good receiver AND avoid using a separate DAC would be to feed the digital audio output over HDMI to the receiver.
The question I'm hoping to get an answer to is: will this be possible while retaining video output on the laptop's own screen?
    thanks in advance,
    René

Sorry, but your Mac doesn't send sound over HDMI, only mid-2010 and later MBP's send sound (and even then some require different adapters).  Yours is a 2009 MBP, so only video will go over the HDMI cable.  You will need to run audio from the audio out to your TV or digital audio out from your optical audio out to your receiver.

  • Audio out from HDMI to TV cuts out

I'm looking for help to troubleshoot the following problem:
I have a brand new iMac, 27", i7 (my first Mac ever). Using the Moshi Mini DisplayPort HDMI adapter, I output video and audio to my LG 55LH90 1080p LED TV. Everything is fine except that approximately every 15 seconds, the audio will cut out for 2 seconds completely.
The problem occurs regardless of whether the audio is from iTunes, YouTube, VLC, Quicktime, etc.
Does anyone have any ideas about what could be causing this problem or how to fix it?
    Thanks

    I have solved my problem.
After spending an inordinate amount of time trying to troubleshoot this (trying different cables, adapters, settings on my TV and iMac, different devices, scouring the internet for help, etc.), and with both LG and Apple customer service pointing the fingers at each other, turns out Apple was right (and LG was incompetent).
The fix was simple. When I was about to give up, I played around with my TV settings one more time. I disabled the "Clear Voice II" setting on my LG TV and it made the problem go away. Audio is 100% fine over HDMI now. Hurray!

  • 5.1 or 7.1 audio out with hdmi? MBP 15inch 2011

I've gone through two adapters and endless hours of trying to get 5.1 audio to my receiver via hdmi or with optical and I can't seem to get it to work. Well, let me correct myself. I got it to work in osX but whenever I start vlc the audio goes from 7.1 to some random configuration where it only comes out of the side speaker. I can't seem to get dts or ac3 to consistently output from vlc to my receiver. Honestly if I have to use the optical I don't care I just want it to work. I got normal audio but not dts or ac3 to work with osX. Then using bootcamp and windows 7 I got the vlc to output only some ac3 via the optical to the receiver. I never got hdmi sound to output in anything other than 2 channel in windows. Anyway if anyone can spread some light on how to accomplish this it would be greatly appreciated at the moment I am using http://www.kanexlive.com/v2 which they claim will pass uncompressed 5.1/7.1 as well as dts and ac3 through. This entire thing is frustrating. Their technical support is laughable.

If anything, the external decoder is your best bet, as it doesn't require drivers/updates/more money
    A product to consider is...

As it authors blurays, excellent interface, options with the software, audio editing. Great for creating movies and such.
    Does this answer your question?

  • Dual Audio Outs? / HDMI and RCA Analog at the same time?

I am trying to figure out if the Apple TV supports dual audio output. My Onkyo receiver supports dual-room/dual-source audio (powered and line-level stereo audio output for 2nd room). The problem is it can only accept an analog source for the second room.
I know that HDMI takes precedence over component video connections if both are connected.
Will the ATV send audio signal out of the HDMI and RCA Analog jacks at the same time so I can enjoy streaming music is two rooms simultaneously?

I like to be a helpful soul, so I decided to pull the owner's manual from Onkyo and take a look at the receiver, without ever thinking about the model number, and come to find out, I have my Apple TV hooked into an Onkyo TX-SR606.
    I appreciate that!
    Iowabeerguy wrote:
Problem is, I have the HDMI into the Onkyo and the analog outs going to to another stereo receiver for the outdoor speakers. Both work at the same time, which means that the Apple TV will output both digital and analog at the same time.
    Good to know.
    Iowabeerguy wrote:
Now, let's look at the receiver - if you have the HDMI plugged into the - say DVD input, and it's playing through the main system, and you plug the analog outputs into the DVD analog in on the receiver, the Zone 2 out will automatically look at the HDMI input, and not put out anything to the Zone 2 outs, because it won't pass digital to the Zone 2 outs.
    Oh yeah, that makes sense!

I can't try it tonight, but I think if you plug the analog outputs from the Apple TV to an input that isn't assigned to an HDMI in, (like CD) and then set the Zone 2 amp to play that source, it should work.
I've set aside some "tinkering" time this weekend to try that. I'll let you know if it works; I think it will. Thanks again!

  • Audio out via HDMI won't work.

MacBook Air running lastest Lion will not putout audio via HDMI. Video is good, but audio will only play on Air's speakers not on TV. What can I try?

When you say the adapter works fine on the TV at the store, you mean the very same one you purchased, or anothre Kanex adapter just like yours?
Also, if you did in fact take your adapter down to the store, did you also take your HDMI cable? How long is your HDMI cable and have you tried another one?
And another point...is your notebook set to mirror mode within Displays Preferences under the Arrangement tab? If it is, try turning mirroring off so that the TV can run at its own, independent resolution. See if that helps.

  • Need a mini display port and audio to HDMI adapter for mid 2009 13" macbookpro

Can some body recomend an adapter cable that plugs into the audio (mid 2009 MacBookPro 13") and mini display port and outputs to HDMI with audio and video all together for a TV?  I would rather not run a separate audio cable in addition to the HDMI cable.
