Mini display - svga

Hi people,
Please help as this is annoying me. lol
I bought a macbook pro do use with Final cut! I could only afford the 13 inch but thought this would be fine to put through my tv.
I bought the wrong lead 2 or 3 times but finally have the correct one which is Mini Display port to VGA.
I put my other windows laptop through the svga lead and this works (So theres no prob with the lead or tv or anything) But when i put the lead into the adaptor i bought it dosnt. The screen on the macbook goes blue for a split second but nothing! I have put this into youtube and no one seems to have a problem! It comes straight on?
Someone told me its something to do with a 2009 model or something? Is this the case? I only have 1 hdmi port that is in use so i need to use this vga port.
Can anyone help or is there a software update? Or am i being stuip and once plugged in i need to do something?

Dell XPS 15 l502x mini-Display Port stopped working after update.

After the updates on the 11-10-2014 my mini-display port (which worked great previously and is part of the Intel Graphics) stopped working.
Am running Arch 64bit with Slim + E19
The symptoms are:
1. Detects monitor from the laptop and xrandr throws no errors
2. Enlightenment thinks the screen is connected and it appears in the screen setup as on.
3. The monitor no longer recognizes that there is a laptop plugged in and just stays off...

As far as I can see my options are to try and roll back via pacman -U in my /var/cache... or to figure out how to make my Nvidia HDMI output work using Synergy...
I suspect this is some type of driver regression (kernel/mesa/xorg) but am not sure as I have not seen much information about this issue online.
Unless someone has a better idea... when I get time to try to resolve the issue I will update this post.

So I downgraded those packages and the kernel with no luck.
I tried to get the HDMI working via Synergy... and failed
I then tested the Display Port on Windows and it did not work there either - exhibiting the same symptoms as Linux - the OS sees the monitor but no data was transferred.
So I ended up using one of my Display Link monitors at work... the USB monitors were ok, just an irritation with a flickering mouse.
I hope it is the miniDP>HDMI adapter and not the port... very frustrated by this problem.
I hope to test another adapter soon.
I think as nobody else is experiencing this issue that it may well be hardware/firmware related.
Hope there is a happy end to this post but not feeling so positive right now.

Try connecting the Minidvi to the VGA and connect it all together, first try turning ing on the MBP, then connecting dvi to the the projector. Make sure your projector input is set for VGA. If noo joy invert the affored mentioned proceedure. You should see your image if not, try going to system preferences>displays, click display. Try readjusting the resolutions in display. reboot monitor.

What do I need to connect my late 2009 Mac book (mini display port) to the TV and get sound?

I'm totally confused!
I have a late 2009 model Macbook. And I want to connect it to my TV.
So my research has led to believing I need a Mini display port adapter and a HDMI cable - but from some of what I have read, this won't carry sound...
Can anyone clarify this and what I do actually need?

The Mini DisplayPort to HDMI doesn't carry audio unless you have the Mid 2010 model 7,1 and there're no audio plugs on most TVs to work with HDMI since it's expecting audio with theHDMI.
If you have the Late 2009 model 6,1 White Unibody with the MiniDisplay Port there is an adapter that can combine video and audio to HDMI.

Is there a way to predict which video projectors will not work with the 2012 MacBook Air using the Mini-display to VGA adapter?

I recently upgraded from a 2011 MBA to a 2012 MBA due to the larger capacity SSD. The 2011 MBA running Lion and Mountain Lion worked with every video projector for lectures. The new 2012 MBA is hit or miss with video projectors. It is not an adapter problem. I have multiple Apple mini-display to VGA adapters with the latest firmware. They all work just fine with the 2011 MBA. Re-starting the 2012 MBA with the adapter and projector connected has not helped.
It it not acceptable to have a laptop that works with projectors some of the time. Apple is aware of the problem. Is the only choice to go back to the 2011 MBA?

I installed 10.8.2 update today with my 2012 MBA. The details of the update include: Resolves a video issue with some VGA projectors when connected to certain Mac notebooks.
I tried using the MBA with a video projector and it found the correct resolution and connected with the projector automatically. Using detect displays in the disoplay preference pane wasn't even necessary.
I hope this is the fix I have been waiting for with the 2012 MBA.

I have an older(2008) MacBook and the MIni display to VGA adapter I purchased doesn't fit my book. Is there one that I can buy that will fit?

If your computer has a Thunderbolt port, plug it in. Otherwise, check what type of display port your computer has and get an adapter for it.

The Thunderbolt port is the one to use; you use the same mini-DisplayPort adapter you used for the older minis.

How do I connect MacBook Pro without mini-display port to my HDMI TV?

I know of no way you can get audio into the HDMI cable.

Thunderbolt uses a Mini DisplayPort adapter to send video and audio to HDMI. Hi there I am connecting a Canon 5D to my laptop trying to use it as a webcam trough camtwist.
At the same time I need to output the streaming to a videoprojector.
The cam is connected to the mini display port do there is no port available for the VGA cable anymore.
Do I need to use a different port for the projector? Should I buy a video card?
Can't connect the camera via USB as that is too slow and it will freeze.

So I have a Mac Book Pro with a bootcamp Windows 8. I dual monitor on the Mac side with my Mid 2011 iMac through my mini display port via thunder bolt cable. In my perfect world, I would be able to switch to the Windows side and have the iMac mirror or extend my windows display for my gaming pleasure, etc. I'm not sure if it's just a simple driver or that it cannot be done.
