Mini display to adc?

I can't seem to find this question anywhere. Interested in buying an old 17" Apple Studio Display that has an ADC output. I'd like to know if I can somehow connect it to my 2009 27" iMac via Mini Display.

Apple's own store states, "The Mini-DVI to DVI adapter is designed for the iMac (Intel Core Duo), MacBook, and 12-inch PowerBook G4 -- allowing you to connect to an external DVI monitor. It can also be used in combination with the Apple DVI to ADC adapter to support older Apple flat panel Studio or Cinema Displays." See the following link:
http://store.apple.com/us/product/M9321G/B
I, too have a Cinema display with an ADC connection that got "legacied" just about the time I bought it. It looks to me like it's a better idea and even cheaper to buy a new DVI monitor and a Mini-DVI to DVI adaptor rather than the above connectors. Price is similar, depending on how large an external monitor you select.
Hope this helps.

  • Mac Mini and 17" Studio Display CRT (ADC)

Is there someone who can tell me if there is a DVI to ADC Adapter to get a Mac Mini to work with the beautiful 17" Studio Display CRT (ADC). Which is an anolog monitor, the adapters i can find work only on LCD (digital) screens.
    Please let me know...
    Ger

Do NOT buy the Apple DVI to ADC adapter, it does not work with CRT displays.
The 'geniuses' at the Apple store recommended that I buy this adapter. It didn't work. I have since found out (after extensively surfing the web) that I am not the only one who has been recommended to buy this adapter by an Apple 'genius'. However, It is simply not designed to work with the CRT's, it is LCD only.
There is no way to make the ADC 17" CRT studio display work with new non ADC Apple hardware. Apple have simply dismissed it, much to the annoyance of all the customers who had purchased this perfectly respectable display.
If you want to use your Mac Mini you will need to use either a non-Apple display or one of their new displays. Your perfectly functioning CRT is now a doorstop.

  • Ancient ADC to mini display adapter

I would like to connect my (old) 17" flat panel studio display to my Powerbook Pro. Maybe all I need an adapter? The display male connector uses a single cable for all functions (power, USB etc) it is rectangular with rounded ends (.35" x 1.22). Part of the rectangle has 30 pins arranged in 3 rows of 10, the remaining part of the rectangle has a blade contact surrounded by 4 round pins. The round pins are all the same size. The total round pins is 34.
I see an adapter that is close, but its connector is a little shorter and has 3 rows of 8 pins (24) and no holes for the 4 pins that surround the blade contact. The Apple store people said this was an early version of the Apple ADC and adapters for it had been discontinued.
Any suggestions for hooking this up would be much appreciated. I consider myself a skilled constructor of kluge ups and posses excellent soldering skills, if it comes to that.

If the display uses ADC (Apple Display Connector)

If noo joy invert the affored mentioned proceedure. You should see your image if not, try going to system preferences>displays, click display.   Try readjusting the resolutions in display. reboot monitor.

  • What do I need to connect my late 2009 Mac book (mini display port) to the TV and get sound?

    I'm totally confused!
I have a late 2009 model Macbook. And I want to connect it to my TV.
So my research has led to believing I need a Mini display port adapter and a HDMI cable - but from some of what I have read, this won't carry sound...
Can anyone clarify this and what I do actually need?

The Mini DisplayPort to HDMI doesn't carry audio unless you have the Mid 2010 model 7,1 and there're no audio plugs on most TVs to work with HDMI since it's expecting audio with theHDMI.
If you have the Late 2009 model 6,1 White Unibody with the MiniDisplay Port there is an adapter that can combine video and audio to HDMI.

  • Is there a way to predict which video projectors will not work with the 2012 MacBook Air using the Mini-display to VGA adapter?

I recently upgraded from a 2011 MBA to a 2012 MBA due to the larger capacity SSD.  The 2011 MBA running Lion and Mountain Lion worked with every video projector for lectures.  The new 2012 MBA is hit or miss with video projectors.  It is not an adapter problem.  I have multiple Apple mini-display to VGA adapters with the latest firmware.  They all work just fine with the 2011 MBA. Re-starting the 2012 MBA with the adapter and projector connected has not helped.
It it not acceptable to have a laptop that works with projectors some of the time.  Apple is aware of the problem.  Is the only choice to go back to the 2011 MBA?
    RC

I installed 10.8.2 update today with my 2012 MBA.  The details of the update include:  Resolves a video issue with some VGA projectors when connected to certain Mac notebooks.
I tried using the MBA with a video projector and it found the correct resolution and connected with the projector automatically.  Using detect displays in the disoplay preference pane wasn't even necessary.
I hope this is the fix I have been waiting for with the 2012 MBA.
    Thank you Apple.

  • Mini Display to VGA adapter doesn't fit

I have an older(2008) MacBook and the MIni display to VGA adapter I purchased doesn't fit my book. Is there one that I can buy that will fit?

The Late 2008 model 5,1 Aluminum Unibody and the Late 2009 model 6,1 and Mid 2010 model 7,1 White Unibody have a Mini DisplayPort. The Early 2006 model 1,1 through Early 2008 model 4,1s plus the Early and Mid 2009 model 5,2s have Mini-DVI ports.

If your computer has a Thunderbolt port, plug it in. Otherwise, check what type of display port your computer has and get an adapter for it.

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
That's exactly what you need. A Mini DisplayPort to HDMI adapter and a HDMI cable. See > http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4241?viewlocale=en_US
This is the only way to view a video on the TV. After connecting your MacBook Air to the TV, image on your TV should show immediately. Then, press Command and F1 keys to mirror your MacBook Air display, and open the video

  • How can I connect a new mac mini to my old vga monitor? There doesn't seem to be a mini display port

I have an old monitor with VGA port, and was wondering if anyone knows how to connect this to the new mac mini. Older mac minis have the mini display port, and if that were the case I would use the mini display port to VGA adapter, but this new mac mini doesn't have one. It just has the thunderbolt port or HDMI port for displays... I've been looking for an adapter to connect my display to one of these but cannot seem to figure it out. Any advice? Thanks in advance.

The Thunderbolt port is the one to use; you use the same mini-DisplayPort adapter you used for the older minis.
    Regards.

  • How do I  connect MacBook Pro without mini-display port to my HDMI TV?

I have a MacBook Pro computer purchased around 2008. I want to connect it to my Panasonic HDMI TV; however, this MacBook Pro doesn't have a mini-display port. Is there a work around? I would like audio & video.
Thanks so much in advance for any help.

You will need a [DVI-to-HDMI adapter|http://www.monoprice.com/products/product.asp?cid=104&cp_id=10419&cs_id=1041902&pid=2029&seq=1&format=2], a standard HDMI cable to connect the adapter to your TV set, and an audio cable with a headphone plug on one end to connect to your MBP's headphone port and two RCA plugs on the other to connect your your TV's audio inputs. I know of no way you can get audio into the HDMI cable.

Is the Thunderbolt port similar to a display port or mini display port? Can I use thunderbolt port to connect thru a mini displayport to HDMI cable or converter?
