Mini Display to HDMI not working

I currently have iMac connected to toshiba tv through minidisplay adapter to hdmi. We can't seem to get it to recognize that the tv is hooked up, we've tried unplugging and replugging turning each device off and on in different combinations. here's what I get on the "display" menu when everything is hooked up.
os x 10.8.2

I had said to my husband that it's probably the adaptor but he didn't think that could be the cause - thanks for confirming that for me! All I can find about it the iMac is this if it helps...21.5-inch, Mid 2011,Processor  2.5 GHz Intel Core i5. I had read that some older macbooks needed to go mini display, to...dvi and then hdmi I think it had said. I was hoping that would've been resolved with thunderbolt. I'll check and see if we can exchange the adaptor. Thanks again! (and I would've been a bit more polite if I felt like they weren't being saucy with their response )

  • MacBook Mini-DVI to HDMI not working on Vizio VO22LF 1080p

I recently purchased a mini-DVI to HDMI adapter so I can hook my macbook to my Vizio 1080p LCD TV. The macbook detects the TV correctly but no matter what I do the TV never detects the macbook on the hdmi input.
Doing some searches I saw discussion of a bug with 1080p that and a trick to get two 1920x1080 resolutions to show up in the display options but it never works for me.
When I connect to my 42" Panasonic 720p everything works great.
    Any thoughts??

This sounds a lot like the problem relating to an Apple disclaimer about the mini driving non-coherent displays which seems to especially affect the original G4 mini. See here under the "Video" sub-section:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/SP65
The problem is the timing for 1680 x 1050 will often have a dot clock above 135 MHz. There are really only a couple things you can do; one is to use the VGA interface as you have been and the second is to use a program like SwitchRes X to lower the pixel clock and stay with the DVI interface. If you want to go the SwitchRes X route, download and install it (get the SwitchRes X Control Panel version and not the full version of SwitchRes X) and then write back to this thread and I can take you through the steps you need to perform. • Macbook mini-DVI - DVI - HDMI not working with My 32" Vizio

Okay so my Macbook mini-DVI - DVI - HDMI is not working with My 32" Vizio. I've connected an 18 pin plus one slot DVI to HDMI cable to my 32" Vizio HDTV, this cable is connected to my macbook via a Mini-DVI to DVI cable, this one has 24 pins plus one slot on the DVI side. My Vizio display is blue, no signal, it reads. I'm wondering if the reason it's not picking up the display is the lack of pins on the DVI to HDMI or because I dont have any display options aside from screen size and color on my display menu. BTW I hit the detect display button and nothing happened.... I know I just wrote alot here but hopefully someone will read it and come to the rescue. thanks

Oops, I guess all I had to do was restart my macbook. I feel like an idiot.....all is well.

  • Mini port to HDMI not working

Trying to connect iMac to my TV with mini port to hdmi genuine adaptor with no success. Works ok if I connect iMac to works Microsoft laptop, it displays immediately. Then connect Microsoft laptop to TV , absolutely fine.
I have looked on Internet & apparently in Display on iMac , arrangements should appear but doesn't on mine.
    Any suggestions welcome please.

Hi, thank you for your response.
I think it was my terminology.
What I bought today from PC World was a IMDHDD13 Mini Display Port adaptor which they advised would work!
It plugs into the thunderbolt port on Mac, screen turns blue for a couple of seconds then returns to normal.
In DISPLAY, arrangements doesn't appear & if I search it, it tells me it is hidden because there is no other screen connected.
I'm thinking now after reading your post this is not a genuine apple part PC World have sold me!

  • Mini display to vga not working on 2010 Macbook Pro

I'm trying to hook up my MBP to an external display but it kept showing "No Signal" on the external display. I have verified that the mini display to VGA adapter is working as I've tried it on a separate MBA and 13" unibody MB.
I brought it down to the service centre and they've replaced the motherboard for me but it's still the same. I have also tried the SMC reset but to no avail.
    Help!

This is the Mac Pro desktop forum. I requested your post be moved to the MacBook Pro laptop forum.

  • Macbook late 2009 mini DVI to HDMI not working

I never had a problem using my external TV with my macbook untill now. I always connect it using a mini DVI cable to HDMI to TV. It worked pefectly for a while. But recently it stopped working, when i plug in my macbook to TV it shows a blue screen for few seconds and then nothnig. there's no signal on the TV.
    Any resolution will be appreciated.

I Started seeing this on my Mac Mini attached to my HDTV from DVI to HDMI after upgrading to 10.5.8.
I am running Spaces. Are you? Is it possibly related to this? I have seen a couple times where the screen was blue for some time and after pressing CTR-Left Arrow
to switch spaces, I would get my screen. Try switching spaces with the keyboard shortcut and see what you get.

  • Mini display port is not working after upgrading to 10.6.8

    I use a LG monitor (E2350V) on OSX 10.6.8 ( macbook pro).
Since the update my monitor wont wake up.
I've tried it on other computers (pre update ) and it still works and I have checked all leads and connections.
Please find me an (easy) fix, someone?
    Thx
    K

Had a similar problem, but the answer is not a good one.
You are going to have to wait until Apple fix this as some 3rd party monitors are not supported by this update.
    So you can:
    Go back to 10.6.7
    Wait for Lion
    or
Use Onxy to clear up your computer and it may link to it again.
I deleted some preference files, which when they rebuilt themselves after a restart did the trick.
It worked for me, let me know how you get on?

  • Mini Display to VGA adapter stopped. The Mini Display to HDMI is still working fine. How´s that possible?

The mini display to VGA adapter had stopped, whinle the Mini Display to HDMI keeps working fine. The minid display to VGA adapter was replaced and the VGA cable as well, and the problem is the same. This test was made with two diferent monitors with VGA entries. How´s that possible to happen? Is that a configuration trouble in the MBP?

The Apple´s customer support gave us the solution for this problem:
    SMC reset
    PRAM reset
The VGA adapter return to work properly aflter this procedure.

I ran a Mini Display to HDMI lead to the TV but the picture quality was disappointing. I also tried a Mini Display to VGA lead and that wasn't much better. I tried all variations of resolutions in System prefs - Displays but nothing helped. Am I getting something wrong? Thanks all.

In addition to pixel density, you are up against the translation driver card in the TV.
If you read the fine print of computer-resolution-capability in the TV user guide, you will see a chart as tall as the manual page.  At the top is the smallest resolution capable, at the bottom is the full use of the 1080p in the TV.
Mac falls into the top 25% of the page, maxing out at 1366x768 often.  This is because the TV control card is expected to do too much of the work, but is not designed for computer-monitor processing.
I looked at the resolution charts on 2 TVs before deciding to buy a 1080p LCD monitor that has a TV interface/connector.  Computer monitor first, TV second.  But the thing is only 27 in.  Good thing TV is not as important to me as it is to others.

Run MDP to HDMI for picture. Use a cable like this to run sound from your audio out on your Mac to your TV's audio in.  That's about all  you can do.

Try this  - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.) No data/files will be erased. http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1430

  • Mini display to hdmi adapter problem

    Hi,
When I connected my mini display to hdmi adapter to hdmi, and hdmi cable to my ASUS PA238QR monitor, my early 2011 MBP 13" detects the monitor, but the monitor shows "hdmi no signal".
I tried unplugging everything, including the adapter and hdmi, but to no avail. I tried putting my computer to sleep, and waking it up, still, nothing seemed to be the cause of the problem.
I read through some old discussion on this issue, and nobody seems to have a solid solution besides purchasing another adapter.
I tried booting into win7 and still, the monitor shows "hdmi no signal".
I am 100% sure my monitor and hdmi works becuase when I used other laptops it's fine.
Thus, I'm suspecting it's the mini display to hdmi adapter's problem.
Is there a way I can make sure that my macbook pro is outputting the signal?
Any recommendation or advises are welcomed. Thanks for reading.

If you've an HDMI port on your television, you could always try that.
I've used this adapter from Monoprice successfully - not bad for under $7.
Give your TV a try - if no go, then you'll know that it's an adapter problem.
    Good luck,
    Clinton

  • The Best Mini Display Port HDMI Adapter?

I am looking for recommendations on a good Mini Display Port HDMI Adapter for my Macbook Pro 2011 Sandy Bridge. I have gone through about 4 adapters in the past year due to the adapters become unresponsive after 2 or 3 months. I use my Macbook heavily on external monitors for my work (averaging 7 hours or more a day between various monitors).
I can rule out the HDMI wire itself not being the cause of the problem but the adapters have been a huge miss and drain on cash this year. If anyone who is also a heavy user can point me in the direction of a durable adapter I would be very grateful.

I always recommend monopriice.com for cables and adapters.
Mini DisplayPort | Thunderbolt® to HDMI® Adapter w/ Audio Support
But all these adapters are in the form of "pigtails" and no matter where you get them the strain relief and the cables can fatigue and break from constant bending or pulling (doesn't help your macbook socket any either).
Maybe you should order a bunch.  They are cheaper that way at monoprice.
Another possibility might be you trying a mini displayport to HDMI cable.  No adapter.
Kanex Mini DisplayPort to HDMI Cable with Audio Support (10 ft.)
But of course you could get about 6 adapters for the price of that one cable!
