Mini DisplayPort adapter? Any Solutions?

What do I need to setup two devices as secondary monitors from the iMac? Least complicated solution for have both a preview monitor and projector (running the same image) from the MiniDisplay Port.
Thanks for any input. Some colleagues purchased a Mid 2010 21.5" iMac as a Media Shout solution. Our workflow/line of devices now is:
iMac > Apple MiniDisplay to DVI adapter > DVI cable > Kramer VP Scaler/Switcher (DVI input) > VGA cable (only output) > Kramer 1:3 VGA Distribution Amplifier > Cable run to projectors (LC-XGC500L).
Problem is no preview monitor. Hoping to have the preview monitor prior to the Kramer so if there is a need to setup a different program or slide, we will be able to see what we are doing on the monitor, while the Kramer is set to black.
Trying to troubleshoot. If I split the Mini DisplayPort at the iMac to the Kramer and preview monitor, must they both be at the same resolution and Hz? I can't get both the projectors and monitor except the signal at the same time.
Again thanks for any input.

Called up AppleCare, they believe its a grounding issue. Naturally curious, and them having made it exceptionally easy to access, I opened up my notebook and found several issues with the placement of the motherboard. Firstly, some of the various spring-loaded grounding pins were unable to contact the bottom case. Also, the ground of the MiniDP was in direct contact with the upper case, rather than only touching its respective grounding spring. I suppose it must have been a problem with this running batch, but the problem was easily solved by loosening the motherboard, shifting its placement and closing it all up Another work-around I've found if nobody is so adventurous as to open up their case, just put the notebook to sleep, then plug in the adapter, then wake it back up :P

  • How do I get a Mini DisplayPort adapter and HDMI connection working for my Older MacBook Pro?

I bought a Belkin Mini DisplayPort adapter and attempted to hook it up on two different tvs using two different HDMI cords. I've always received a "no signal" message. I haven't even been able to get my desktop to appear. My display settings doesn't include a mirroring option and I only have the option to use my computer as a sound output. I've called apple support and I went to geek squad. Is it just impossible for older MacBooks?? I have Snow Leopard 10.6.8 and all of the forums I've read say that video should work at least. I switched out my adapter for a rocket fish one and still no luck. The geek squad employee couldn't get it to work on either adapters. Please Help!

I upgraded my OS to Mountain Lion and now it works perfectly. However, I'm getting random green and black splotches on my screen when I'm not using it with the TV.

  • External monitor loses signal to macbook pro through DVI cable and Mini DisplayPort Adapter

    Hello,
So I had my external monitor connected to my MBP with a DVI cable and a Mini DisplayPort Adapter, for a while already. But sometimes, the monitor would lose signal from the laptop and gives me a white noise screen. Now, the monitor can't receive signal at all, even after I got a new Mini Displayport Adapter. When the monitor and the MBP is connected by the cable and the adapter, the monitor would say "no signal" and the MBP screen would flicker (I think it's trying to connect to the monitor, but can't). The new Mini Display Port Adapter also makes the screen flicker, so I'm not sure if it's the problem is at the adapter or the DVI cable. I'm pretty sure it's not the monitor.
What do you think? Have you ever have a screen flickering problem when your MBP is connected to an external monitor?

I have had the same problem.  By following your suggestions I got to arrangements.  I could not send them off to the side.  When I hit the mirro disply key everyting worked.  I got it solved by clicking in arrangements and setting displays to mirror display.
I am still have a problem of no sound coming through my tv.

  • Apple 20" CD connects fine to MacBook Pro 2009 via DVI to Mini displayport (adapter) but not to Radeon 5770 (either MDP ports) on MacPro 2008?! Have Eizo CG223 on DVI to 5770. Any ideas?

    Here's the setup:
Eizo Coloredge CG223 DVI to DVI on MacPro 5770 interface (ACD works fine on this too, naturally).
Apple Cinema Display 20" have the DVI connector. I have a Mini Displayport to DVI adapter on this, into one of the 5770's MDPs, neither of which seem to work.
Plug the same ACD via DVI (with DVI to MDP adpater) into my MacBook Pro 2009 MDP and it works fine as a second screen.
So what's up with the 5770 MDPs? I've seen online that the card should at least support two displays, either MDPs x2 or MDP and DVI. I've seen there may be an issue with three, not two.
    Any ideas please?
    Thanks,
    Y

Striped down to bare inputs - monitors and keyboard/mouse. Works! Dimerising must have interfered with it. Phew!

  • Display Undetected: Cintiq 12WX to iMac via DVI + Mini Displayport Adapter Thunderbolt

Hello all. I'm connecting my Wacom Cintiq 12WX to an iMac 27-inch, Late 2013 (brand new) via a DVI cable connected to the iMac's thunderbolt port with a Mini DisplayPort to DVI adapter. Returning a "No Sync" response on the tablet, iMac is not detecting the display.
The cable is DVI-D (Dual Link), the adapter is DVI-D (Dual Link), and the port on the Wacom appears to be DVI-I (Dual Link) except with a vertical socket for "Analog Ground" connection which is missing in DVI-D – but from my understanding this shouldn't be an issue. Could be wrong, not my area of expertise.
However, in the past I have used this device with a Late 2008 Macbook and a DVI to Mini DVI adapter to the Mini DisplayPort, back when Apple was pre-Thunderbolt, same cable and it worked like a charm.
I've contacted Wacom's support, but they usually take a day or two to get back so I'm hoping someone here can shed some light.
    Thanks in advance.

yeah thats how I connect my 24" dell
minidisplayport is the same connector as thunderbolt

  • Mini DisplayPort adapter for 23" Apple HD Cinema Display?

    hello all,
I'm sure this has been asked and answered here, but I can't find it! (grrr...)
I've got an 23" Apple HD Cinema display and a new iMac. The iMac has a "mini DisplayPort". Now, the Cinema Display has a 3 x 10-pin (not 3 x 8) DVI connector. The WIKI thing about DVI calls it a "DVI M1-DA (Dual link + USB)".
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DigitalVisualInterface
For the life of me, I can't find an Apple (or other) adapter with the 10-pin connector to attach to the iMac?
    many thanks,
    b myers

If it's the old, plastic cased, 23" display, it may use ADC (Apple Display Connector).
    <http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/0/09/AppleDisplayConnector.jpg>
In that case, you will need a DVI to ADC adapter

  • Mac is not connecting to TV after using Mini DisplayPort to HDMI Adapter Cable?

Macbook Pro is not connecting to TV after using Mini DisplayPort to HDMI Adapter Cable. 2010 Macbook Pro, just purchased Mini DisplayPort to HDMI Adapter Cable from Amazon. Link here: http://www.amazon.com/Mini_Dis-HDMI-CB6-Mini-DisplayPort-Adapter-Cable/dp/B003OC 6LWM/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1406238976&sr=8-2&keywords=mac+to+tv --When i connect both ends of the cable to the TV and to the laptop, the screen will blink, but then afterwards it will not mirror on the TV. I have tried going to display setting but cannot find the arrangements tab. When i searched "arrangements" a message said, "The Arrangement tab of Displays preferences is hidden because you only have a single display attached to this computer." Not sure how to fix this problem. I have connected this laptop to a TV before, but with a different cable other than the one i just purchased. Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

Found the fix.  Still don't know if it was Windows, iTunes, or Norton 360, but this worked immediately for me:

Start --> Programs --> Accessories (Right Click on Command Prompt) --> Run as Administrator
    then type in:
    Netsh winsock reset
Hit enter, restart PC, open iTunes, go to Store

  • Mini displayport to dvi adapter not working

    hello,
I have both a 2008 Mac Pro tower with 2 Apple Cinema Displays, and a newer MacBook Pro that I'd like to hook up to one of the monitors.
The 2 monitors are both DVI, so I bought a mini displayport adapter to plug into the thunderbold port on the MacBook Pro and the other end to the monitor.
When I plug it all in, I get no video on the monitor. I am sure the monitor works, I'm sure the cables work (from the monitor), not sure about the adapter (I just bought it, so it could be bad)....
I did see quite a bit of the same issue online, thought I couldn't find any help in fixing it.... short of driving back to the apple store and replacing the adapter, I'm wondering if there's anything else I should do to trouble shoot this....
I've restarted the computer, checked all connections, nada....
    help??

The problem was simple: my laptop wasn't plugged in...
The desk where the Mac Pro is isn't where I typically use my laptop, so I carried the laptop over and plugged the monitor in, when that didn't work I looked online and checked here- I also returend the original adapter to the apple store. I inquired about it there, and the genius asked if my laptop was plugged in when I tried it out... sooo when I got home I tried it again with the new adapter and with the laptop plugged in, and it worked right off the bat with no trouble shooting or "detect display" necessary...
The laptop must be plugged in for the external monitor to show up...
    now I know.

  • Mini Displayport DVI Adapter Problem

I'm currently having issues with my MacBook Pro's DVI out (via Apple Mini-Displayport Adapter). Whenever my displays go to sleep (which is set after an hour) and wakes up, sometimes the external display (a SyncMaster 220WM) shows "snow" or "static" ... basically what you'd see if a TV station had no reception. If I let it sit for a minute, the second display will return (the MBP's primary display is fine, no errors of any kind). If I power off the Samsung display, the MBP treats the connection as if I pulled the cable out and reverts to a single screen setup. I have been able to reproduce this by using "Hot Corners" to sleep and wake up the displays. I'm using the 9600m GT as the computer is my desktop replacement. I never had this happen to me before with my older MBP with an 8600m GT using the same DVI cable and display. I think it's the mini-displayport adapter. Is this a common issue. Anyone else having these problems.
    Thank you!

I have been experiencing the same flickering problem when using the mini Displayport output on the GT120 to drive secondary monitors at my office. Using a Monoprice cable instead of Apple's adapter provides a more stable signal, but we still get intermittent flickering where the screen goes black for a second, then a full image returns. I think this issue is due to massive loss of signal strength via the mini Displayport output on the GT120 card. Hot Plug Detect is also weak which points to low signal strength. This might be fixable by increasing the output voltage of the card slightly to boost the signal strength. Apple really should just issue a firmware/BIOS fix for this problem since the implementation of mini Displayport on these cards seems poorly engineered. Does anyone know how to do this?

  • Use Mini DisplayPort to DVI adapter to connect Mac Mini to Cinema Display?

    Hi
I have a new-to-me current model Mac Mini and want to use it with my 20" Cinema Display (model A1081).
The Mac Mini instructions say to use the HDMI port on the Mac Mini with a DVI>HDMI adapter cable. I seem to have only a DVI>Mini DisplayPort adapter cable. I'm guessing this will be OK to use, but don't want to fry the system straight out the box
Can anyone confirm it's OK to use DVI>Mini DisplayPort connection to drive the display?
    TIA
    Jim

    Thanks for the reassurance BSteely!
One thing I've seen when rummaging through the forum is a suggestion that with MDP>DVI adapter is problems with display waking from sleep. Short of setting it not to sleep, is there a workaround to wake it up again if it doesn't respond to usual stimuli?
    TIA

  • Mini displayport to VGA resolution

I use an external monitor with my imac 27" i was using an old Tube style vga monitor so i have a mini DisplayPort adapter to VGA.. i just hooked up one of my LCD monitors with a native resolution of 1680x1050 but it does not seem to give me that option... I can choose 1600x1200 or 1920x1200?
I dont get why i could choose a higher resolution but not the one i need.. looks like crap at that 1600x1200..
    Any solutions for this?
I did a bunch of googling and it seems to be possibly something with Lion maybe... People had the option dropped when they upgraded.
Just wondering if there is a solution.. Yes i could go out and buy a new DVI adapter but this monitor also belongs to another computer so i am also using a VGA kvm so i would have to go out and buy one of those too... so just trying to cut costs.
Hmmm i should try one of my 1920x1200 capable monitors...
    Q

Ok tried a higher resolution monitor and it works just fine... but the size of the screen does not match up as well but i guess i will keep it like this for now. It would be nice if someone had a fix for this.

  • Connect 24" Cinema Display with Mini DisplayPort to new 21.5' iMac

I'm having a bit of an issue attempting to connect my new 21.5' iMac to my Apple Cinema Display. The display has a mini DV port that used to connect into my MacBook Pro but now I see there is no such port on the iMac.  They clearly state they offer support for it but I don't see a way to connect. Any suggestions?

    19. How do I connect my Mini DisplayPort monitor or monitor using a Mini DisplayPort adapter to my Thunderbolt-equipped Mac when I have other Thunderbolt devices connected?
When connecting a Mini DisplayPort display or a display using a Mini DisplayPort adapter to a Thunderbolt peripheral (except as described in question 14), make sure the display is connected at the end of the Thunderbolt chain. You can use only one Mini DisplayPort device in the Thunderbolt chain.
Note: Systems with more than one Thunderbolt port, like an iMac, can have more than one Mini DisplayPort monitor or monitor connected with a Mini DisplayPort adapter connected as each Thunderbolt port can support one Mini DisplayPort display.

  • Connecting a vga monitor to mini displayport with 2 adapters

Hi. I have a 21.5 inch iMac and I want to attach a second monitor. The monitor that I bought, the MultiSync LCD1560m, says it is mac compatible. it has two inputs; one DVI-D and one VGA. The monitor came with a vga cable, but not a DVI-D cable. I bought a dvi to mini displayport adapter, thinking the monitor would come with a DVI-D cable. I also had a VGA to DVI cable laying around, and attached that to the other adapter. The iMac won't detect the monitor. The chain from the iMac to the monitor is as follows: Mini DisplayPort > DVI > VGA. I don't want to shell out $40 for a new DVI-D cable. I've already rebooted multiple times plugging and unplugging the mnitor in before and after the iMac started up. I've also reset the PRAM. Does anybody have a solution that doesn't involve spending (much) money? (I'm broke. my monitor only cost $75). Thanks.

$40 for a DVI cable, where are you shopping Macy's?

  • Mini DisplayPort + Cinema Display woes

So we have this brand new MacBook Pro, and a Mini DisplayPort to DVI adapter was purchased to hook it up to a 20" Cinema Display, but it has this weird problem. If the MBP goes to sleep while hooked up to the second monitor, and then you wake it up, the second monitor flickers on and off wildly, also showing some bizarre colored lines. This happens roughly 75% of the time the Mac is woken up from sleep while plugged into the display.
Unplugging the DisplayPort and plugging it back in will solve the problem. So my question is, what could be causing this? At first I figured it could be the Mini DisplayPort adapter itself, but the problem seems to be too consistent for that to be the case. The problem ONLY happens when waking from sleep, and works totally fine otherwise. Could it be the MBP itself? Any thoughts?

There are NUMEROUS thread now about this in the Display forum, so please feel free to check them out. It's a bug that affects anybody with an external display. I'm hoping Apple fixes it soon....
