Mini Displayport Input and Windows

When booted in Windows 7 on one of the 27" iMacs, is it possible to still utilize the Mini Displayport Input? The Apple + F2 to switch to input does not work when using Windows.

The video input function requires OS X to be running, so it won't work from Windows.

  • How do I get a Mini DisplayPort adapter and HDMI connection working for my Older MacBook Pro?

I bought a Belkin Mini DisplayPort adapter and attempted to hook it up on two different tvs using two different HDMI cords. I've always received a "no signal" message. I haven't even been able to get my desktop to appear. My display settings doesn't include a mirroring option and I only have the option to use my computer as a sound output. I've called apple support and I went to geek squad. Is it just impossible for older MacBooks?? I have Snow Leopard 10.6.8 and all of the forums I've read say that video should work at least. I switched out my adapter for a rocket fish one and still no luck. The geek squad employee couldn't get it to work on either adapters. Please Help!

I upgraded my OS to Mountain Lion and now it works perfectly. However, I'm getting random green and black splotches on my screen when I'm not using it with the TV.

  • New 13" Macbook Pro trying to connect to a Panasonic VIERA TC-L42U30 as second monitor. I've used multiple hdmi-thunderbolt/mini displayport adapters and multiple hdmi cables and still no success. The Macbook does not sense the second monitor (TV). Help?!

I've been a Mac since 2008, so I know my way around the system pretty well. This issue, however, has me stumped. I had an iMac until now and only now am I experiencing some difficulty with my new MacBook Pro. The model I have is the newest 13" Macbook Pro model and I'm trying to connect a Panasonic VIERA TC-L42U30 42" HDTV as a second monitor via the Thunderbolt port.
It worked the first two times and hasn't worked since, after 10-15 attempts with different configurations, turning things on n off, restarting the mac, unplugging the cables, adapters, TV, resetting the P RAM, etc... I've used multiple hdmi-thunderbolt/mini displayport adapters and multiple hdmi cables and still no success. No matter what I do, the Macbook does not sense the TV as a second monitor anymore.
I took the MacBook Pro to the Apple Store, and their "genius" there had it working fine with a DVI connection to a regular monitor. The Panasonic TV I have has HDMI connections and one VGA connection which does not support HD, but no DVI option. I want an HD connection to mirror or extend my MacBook Pro screen. At the Apple Store, they didn't have a Thunderbolt/Mini DisplayPort to HDMI adapter, so he could not try that out for me.
Anyone else have this configuration or another similar one with a Panasonic HDTV?
    Ideas? Suggestions? Anything?! Help!!
P.S. I'm running Mountain Lion, if that wasn't already obvious. Everything is up to date in my App Store as well.
    Thanks!

    Hi There,
I have had the exact same issue but with a projector.
The issue lies with Mountian Lion 10.8.2.
I tried many a combination with no luck to get HDMI working.
Took my mac into the apple store and came to the conclusion it was the software, so I asked them to install 10.8 onto it (this is destructive so a backup is a must)
Bought my macbook home and voila, now displaying through my projector.
There is a small graphics update after 10.8.1 which seems to be the cause.
    Hope this helps.
    Thanks.

  • Mini DisplayPort - VGA and MBP 2011 not working

    Hi,
I can't get my 13" mbp 2011 to connect to VGA screens. I've bought a mini DisplayPort to VGA converter (an Apple one, not a no name) and if I connect a display over VGA the screen stays black. My mbp recognizes the display, I can see the display's model, resolution etc but no signal. I've tried multiple screens, none work.
I don't have other converters so I can't test if HDMI screens for example do work.
    Anyone else having this problem?

I have a 2011 13" i7 and am having the same issue when connecting it to my LG TV through the HDMI adapter. However when I connect it to my HP external monitor it works but it's VERY blurry... so blurry that it hurts the eyes to look at it for more than a few mins.
My previous MBP (2010 13") works fine however with both the TV and monitor. I even reconnected it just to make sure and they both work flawlessly.
I only have 14 days total to return this new MBP and 5 of those days are used up so if I can't get this fixed by then I have no choice but to return it and go back to my old MBP.

  • Any way to record mini displayport input?

    Hey there,
Now that some companies offer hdmi and others to mini displayport adapters, I was wondering if the incoming data was "passing through" SL, or if it goes straight to display, so there would be no way to record it.
I'm asking because I want to webcast a live sport event this summer on the cheap. So I could use an external hdmi video switch, output that switch to the minidisplay port adapter then video mix on the fly using Wirecast.
    Any answer is appreciated, thanks!

    Hi

  • Mini Displayport, Audio and Snow Leopard

    Hello everybody!
It is my first post here, so excuse me if I'm in the wrong section (and by the way, sorry for my skill in english).
I'd like to know if audio is now supported in the mini displayport with Snow Leopard?
    Thanks,
    Julien

I did see this, however, with a Google search.
    http://www.macyourself.com/2009/07/10/kanex-mini-displayport-to-hdmi-adapter-wit h-audio-in-august/
Apparently, this product will combine the video output from the Mini DisplayPort with audio output over USB into a consolidated signal over HDMI. Pretty cool.

  • Mini Displayport input support

I have a late 2009 27" iMac now that I connect to my Dell via a mini display to display cable and  in "Target Display Mode" can see my Dell's screen. I am looking at buying a new iMac, But am not sure if I will be able to do this anymore.
Does anyone know if this is still possible?

If I'm understanding the answers correctly it will not work anymore. I'm wanting what is on my Dell screen to go to the screen of my iMac by pressing cmd-f2 which I can do now with my current setup.I thought that was target Display. I am NOT trying to send the iMac screen to the Dell screen.
I have poor eye site and all of my business programs are on my small Dell laptop. I don't want to put Windows on my iMac so this setup has worked great for me the last few years.
As I mentioned in my first post I was going to buy a new iMac before the end of the year, but if I lose this feature I will hold off.
rkaufmann87, if I could bother you. Could you tell me if your statement you made is still correct before I confused everyone with the wrong terminology.
    Thank you

  • Mac Mini, USB, BootCamp and Windows Software Updates

Right so ive recently bought a Mac Mini and Installed Windows 7 Home on it.
First time went a bit haywire and now ive managed to sort it.
Ive downloaded the WindowsSupport updates for the Mac but its stuck in my Mac OSX.
When i log onto Windows there are no drivers and it does not recognise my External Hard Drive, so i cant install the updates. Because i cant install the drivers i have no internet connection on Windows.
Its really frustrating me now, ive been at it for a good couple of days and i just cant find the solution to the problem.
The Mac Mini has no Disc drive and i dont want to buy one. I only want to transfer the Drivers so everything works fine in Windows.
    Can anyone help?
Appreciate any comments back to help me find this solution.
    Thanks

itake it you have lion yea bad news you kinda need the mac drivers disk that is created by boot camp there is another way of doing it without internet access but you need a usb thumb drive.
Here is how you do it
    1. plug in the usb thumb drive in mac os x
    2. go to utilitys
    3. go to disk utility click the thumb drive erase drive as ms dos partition fat32
    4. once thats completed close disk utility
    5. now copy your drivers to the thumb drive (but be farwarned you need the apple bootcamp drivers without those drivers you will not be able to leave windows and return to mac os x without the bootcamp control panel)

  • No display on 2nd monitor with a mini displayport to dvi

    Hi there,
I have now owned my Macbook Pro for 2 weeks and received my mini displayport in the post today. Once everything was plugged into my LG monitor, there is a signal present as it shows up in the system preferences and i can move windows to the other screen, but the monitor screen is black and telling me there is no signal.
This is very frustrating as I hate being restricted to a small screen.
Hopefully someone will have be able to help.
    thanks,

You are right: Thunderbolt supports both Mini DisplayPort cables and adapters without any problem, but Mini DisplayPort does not support Thunderbolt cables.
If you have got an Apple display with Mini DisplayPort, you can use it with the new Mac Pro. Just use the Mini DisplayPort cable or adapter you need. See > http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5219?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US#22

  • How to connect a 2009 Cinema Display with mini DisplayPort to modern card

    Hello:
I am ready to install a new NVidia Quadro K5000 for Mac in my not so old Mac Pro 4,1 (2009). I already installed Mountain Lion (10.8.3) as required. The problem is that the Mac Pro came with a Led Cinema Display which apparently only can be connected with a mini DisplayPort plug and the graphics card only have DVi and DP 1.2. I tried to find an adapter but the ones I have find are minidp male to DVI female and obviously I need a minidp female to DVI or DP female.
    I will appreciate any help.

The fifth and sixth item on this page are DisplayPort male to Mini DisplayPort female "Extension cables". Under US$6 plus shipping from a reputable seller:

  • Connect MacBook Pro with Mini DisplayPort to TV?

I have a 15" MacBook Pro with the Mini DisplayPort outlet. I used to have a PowerBook which I was able to connect to my TV via the video adapter. No such adapter is included with my MacBook. How can I connect it to my TV to view videos, movies, tv shows, etcetera?

You only need a cable from MBP to Display, i.e. Mini DisplayPort Male to HDMI Male Cable
    Link: http://www.cablematters.com/pc-30-30-gold-plated-mini-displayport-male-to-hdmi-m ale-6-feet-cable.aspx
    It's only $9.95.
But you know, until now Mini DisplayPort can not output audio but only video. As far as I know Cable Matters Inc. has solution for audio output. If you want high audio quality Mini Displayport Male and Toslink Audio/USB Male to HDMI Female Adapter is good for you since it supports 5.1 Channel audio.
    Link: http://www.cablematters.com/pc-56-26-mini-displayport-male-and-toslink-audiousb- male-to-hdmi-female-adapter.aspx
The price is $47.95, a little expensive. You will need another HDMI to HDMI cable from this adapter to the TV/Screen.
If you don't require high quality audio this is an alternative Mini DisplayPort Male and USB Male Audio to HDMI Female Adapter.
    Link: http://www.cablematters.com/pc-24-32-mini-displayport-male-and-usb-male-audio-to -hdmi-female-adapter.aspx
The price is cheaper for $37.49. You will also need an HDMI to HDMI cable from this adapter to your TV/Screen.

  • Target Display Mode - Thunderbolt to Mini DisplayPort?

I have a MacBook Pro which has a Mini DisplayPort and I connect this to the Mini DisplayPort on my 27" iMac and use Target Display Mode.
I am interested in the MacBook Air but there is no longer a Mini DisplayPort and I want to be able to go into Target Display Mode on my iMac. Is this going to be possible ie can I connect the Thunderbolt port on a MacBook Air to the Mini DisplayPort on my iMac and go into Target Display Mode? If possible, are the cables available yet?
    Thanks
    Tony

Yes, you can use the Thunderbolt port (which doubles as a Mini DisplayPort).
And yes, the cable (Thunderbolt/Mini DisplayPort) is available.
You can probably use your existing cable for Target Display Mode, just not for connecting Thunderbolt devices to your MacBook Air.

  • Mini DisplayPort to HDMI Adapter ... yes or no

    Hi
Is it possible to use a Mini DisplayPort to HDMI Adapter like this one to connect the HDMI out port on my Nokia N8 to my 27" imac?

You are right: Thunderbolt supports both Mini DisplayPort cables and adapters without any problem, but Mini DisplayPort does not support Thunderbolt cables.
If you have got an Apple display with Mini DisplayPort, you can use it with the new Mac Pro. Just use the Mini DisplayPort cable or adapter you need. See > http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5219?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US#22

  • Mini DisplayPort to HDMI adapter with sound

There are 2 Mini DisplayPort to HDMI adapters that combine sound into the HDMI signal, http://www.monoprice.com/products/product.asp?cid=104&cp_id=10428&cs_id=1042802&pid=5969&seq=1&format=2 (one that uses USB for the audio) and http://www.monoprice.com/products/product.asp?cid=104&cp_id=10428&cs_id=1042802&pid=6331&seq=1&format=2 (one that uses the mini TOSLink for the sound). The USB sound one is cheaper, but does it output a true 5.1 signal? I know the more expensive TOSLink one will, but if possible I'd like to get the cheaper adapter. If it outputs a 5.1 signal, I can get the USB sound adapter, otherwise I'll get the pricier TOSLink one. Thanks, Zach

Only the adapter with Toslink can supports the 5.1 Channel audio. You can get the product through the Link: http://www.cablematters.com/pc-56-26-mini-displayport-male-and-toslink-audiousb- male-to-hdmi-female-adapter.aspx
There is more helpful information on its site and has Youtube video. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oc1zI7LMlls
