It seems very compact and affordable.
Anyone tried this yet?
Any feedback/review would be appreciated.

If your iMac has mini display port and/or thunderbolt no reason it shouldn't work.
It works great for me, when I'm on the road, I can watch movies I have on my computer on the hotel CRT TV.

  • Macbook, Mini DVI to Composite/S-Video and Vizio 32" LCD.  HELP: Resolution

So I bought this adapter to hook-up my LCD TV to the Macbook, and I cannot get the correct resolution for this TV.
"32" HD 1366 x 768 native LCD HDTV" is the Specs.
NOW, I did download SwitchResX, but was unsuccessful in registering the custom 1366 x 768 resolution, the LCD TV simply prompts: "No Signal"
Under 1280x768 the TV does work, but it looks blurry.
    Please Help

The Mini DVI to Composite/S-Video is for use at standard TV resolutions, such as 640 x 480. Fo the full 1366 x 768 try using a DVI to HDMI cable with the Mini-DVI to DVI adapter

or use VGA with the Mini-DVI to VGA adapter

  • Mini DisplayPort to VGA Adapter for new MacBook

    Hi,
I have an old MacBook (2 years old) and am planning to upgrade to the new MacBook.
Can my current Mini DisplayPort to VGA Adapter be used for this new MacBook as well?
This is so that I don't have to order another Adapter if they are the same still.
    Thanks!
    QF

A two-year old MacBook will have a Mini DVI port on it, not a Mini DisplayPort. So you will need a new adapter. Apple Mini DisplayPort to VGA Adapter.

  • Mini DVI-to-Composite (PAL): Video sync problems

    Hi all,
I have a rather awkward-to-explain specific question and I'm wondering if anyone knows enough about video to explain it...
I've recently been using my MacBook to play back video through the DVI port to my PAL TV (UK). I have the Mini DVI to video adapter.
The problem I am having is with video frame rates. If I play a PAL video through the MacBook (25fps), it seems to play it back on the TV with no problems. However, if I try to play any video that has a rate of 24fps, it *starts off* okay for maybe 5-10 minutes, but then the picture becomes really juddery and difficult to watch. If I am using video mirroring I notice that on the LCD screen, the video has started updating frames midway through a screen refresh (you can see a "ripple" running through the picture).
I do have a way round this problem at the moment... I burn them all to DVD using Toast. Unfortunately though this means about 12 hours of encoding for each DVD, not to mention that I'm getting through so many discs!!
The result of converting the videos to DVD is that every second there is a slight pause, but this is still miles better than the output from the MacBook directly to the TV.
Does any of the above make sense? Any ideas on how I can solve this little problem? Anyone? Thanks!
    :-Joe

Yes it's PAL... I've tried all resolutions, both PAL and NTSC. Obviously all the colours are washed out on NTSC but both have the flicker problem
Like I say it's fine when running a PAL video - but if I play one recorded in 24fps (ie HD content, DVD content) then I get the flicker problem after a few minutes. Maybe it's something to do with the processing power? Although I can watch the videos fine on the LCD screen.
I've used Quicktime Player, VLC and Wide Screen Movie Player, all give me the same problem.
Maybe I should use this as an excuse to get an HDTV

  • Thunderbolt Display with mini-displayport Sapphire HD 7550 video card

I have a Mac Pro 5,1, Model A1289, made in June 2012.  It came with a Nvidia Quadro 400 graphics card, but I want to purchase a Sapphire HD 7550 3GB Mac Edition graphics card in order to use a 27 inch Thunderbolt Display.  I know the Sapphire 7550 card will work in the Mac Pro version I have.
The description of the Sapphire 7550 card says it has two mini-display ports.  Will the 27 inch Thunderbolt Display work with this card?
I have read information on various forums that suggest it will work and others that say it will not.
Will a Thunderbolt Display work with a video card that has mini-display ports or does it have to specifically say it is a Thunderbolt port?
Does anyone have a clear answer?

  • MacPro update Mini DisplayPort both audio and video?

Apple confirmed to Ars that the just-updated MacBook Pros will pass both video and audio signals to an HDTV or receiver when using an miniDP to HDMI adapter.
Just wondering if this is true or if anyone has tried it out yet?

Hello Rick! Thanks again for the reply. I took the one adapter back but at the time they had no other new ones to replace it with so I just took the refund. I was back in town at my brothers so i checked them out again and they had 3 brand new never opened adapters. I bought it again. It actually worked.
My bro had the audio splitter cables so I connected them and it did work. So not sure if the adapter I bought has the audio capability or not because I used the other audio out on the MBP. The one where it is headphone to RCA..whatever those connections are called.
I will try the adapter on a Toshiba 26" TV I have at home with just the adapter and see if audio comes through or not. I hope it will.

  • NTSC monitor component/RGB to Imac via min-displayport

I'm trying to hook up an NTSC monitor which only has RGB and component (Y, R-Y, B-Y) ports to my 2009 iMac, which thus must use a min-display port to do so.
Does anyone know of the best way of connecting this NTSC monitor to my iMac? I had thought about...mini displayport/DVI-->DVI to component.
Although mini displayport/VGA-->VGA to component might work too.
One concern I had was that I heard the mini displayports were DVI-D opposed to DVI-I, which may or not mean a component adapter would work.
    help lol.
    thanks

There was a long thread on the forum with good info regarding conversion of Mini DisplayPort to composite/S-Video.
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=9692969
I don't think component will work for the same reasons, unless you use something like the rather complex method explained in the post by Lougle in the above thread (the one with pictures). Maybe it is different...
I thought of something the other day though. OWC has a recent USB video adapter product.
    http://eshop.macsales.com/item/Other%20World%20Computing/VIDU2DVIA/
I wonder if you could put a DVI-to-component adapter (or a DVI-to-composite adapter) at the end of this USB-to-DVI adapter, and get it to work. I don't think the product description has the answer, and I was going to send an email to OWC's sales/tech support to ask. I'm only curious, since I don't need such an output myself. If you decide to ask them, please post back with their response.

  • Mini DisplayPort to S-Video or RCA (yellow)

I know this has been addressed in other topics by other people, but I was wondering what the final outcome of all the discussion was. Is it possible to connect my MacBook Pro 13-inch with Mini DisplayPort to female S-Video or RCA (composite--yellow color). I can already connect the audio with no problem. I just need the video connection to be made.
    Sincerely,
    markerline

It can be done but you need a converter box like this:
    http://www.monoprice.com/products/product.asp?cid=101&cp_id=10114&cs_id=1011407&pid=4724&seq=1&format=2
And you'll also need the Apple Mini DisplayPort to VGA Adapter if you don't already have one.

  • Mini displayport to Video

Is there any way to go to VIDEO (RCA) from MINI DISPLAY PORT? I really need to go from my MACBOOK PRO (2010) to VIDEO to a projector.

Does your projector not have a VGA input? That would give you better picture quality than antiquated composite video. Nearly all projectors have VGA inputs.
If yours doesn't, you'll need a mini-displayport-to-VGA adapter and a converter box like this:
    http://www.amazon.com/PC-To-TV-Video-Converter/dp/B001CJOLBW/ref=pdcp_e2

  • Is there a way to go from the mini displayport to a video .

I would like to be able to hook my new MacBook Pro up to the older tv's at school.
Is there an adapter or series of adapters that will create a connection between the mini displayport and a RCA video connection.

Yes, though the image quality will be dramatically inferior to what you see on the built-in MBP screen. You'll need a mini-Displayport-to-VGA adapter and this or a similar converter box:
    http://www.amazon.com/PC-To-TV-Video-Converter/dp/B001CJOLBW/ref=pd_cp_e_2

  • Mini DisplayPort - DVI - Video

    Hi
Just bought two adapters from the iStore, Mini Display Port to DVI and DVI to Video.
The reason for this is that my (old) TV does not have any digital inputs at all.
However, when I connect the computer to the TV I don't get a signal. When I connect the adapters the screen flickers briefly and then nothing.
Is there something wrong with my adapters or can this not be done?

It can't be done with what you have there. You need a mini-Displayport to VGA adapter and a converter box like this:
    http://www.amazon.com/PC-To-TV-Video-Converter/dp/B001CJOLBW/ref=pdcp_e2
Then you'll need an RCA male to RCA male video cable to run from the box to the TV, and if the TV has audio inputs, you'll need a separate audio "Y" cable with a mini stereo headphone plug on one end and two suitable plugs (most likely RCA, but look at your set to confirm) on the other.

  • Does the mini displayport able to transfer audio and video to an external monitor (example: a tv) using a 2011 13" MacBook Pro with an hdmi cable?

I was wondering this, because I want to hook up my 2011 MacBook Pro to a external monitor (TV) using an hdmi cable.  This would be heplful before I buy a mini displayport to hdmi adapter, and then maybe find out that the mini displayport might not transfer audio, only video.

Yes, min Displayport supports audio and video for the 2011 MBP 13" via HDMI.

  • Tecra A11 - No Video via mini DisplayPort

    Hi There,
I just recently purchased a mini DisplayPort -> HDMI cable to be used with my Tecra A11 Notebook. My intention was to run two external displays by running a VGA cable to my LG W2242 Monitor and run the mini-DP to HDMI cable to my HP 2509m Monitor. Unfortunately I cannot get my HP monitor to recognize the Video Signal from the mini DIsplayPort.
I have downloaded the newest drivers for my laptop, but still no luck. Is there anything special I need to do to get the mini DisplayPort to send a Video Signal?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Regards,
    Landon

The Tecra A11 I have purchased (the A11-00N) only has two external video ports; A mini DisplayPort and a VGA.
I am currently running the Tecra A11 hooked up via the VGA Port to my HP 2509m Monitor. When unplugging the VGA cable and attempting to use just the mini DisplayPort to attach a SINGLE external Monitor I still have trouble getting a signal.
@Andrej - I'm currently attempting to attach 2 external monitors while closing the lid of the built-in display. In any case this should work as the laptop would still be only running 2 displays total.
What troubles me is that the mini DisplayPort doesn't work in a single display setup. I am going to attempt using the cable with a MacBook Pro later today and hopefully it will help in pointing to the root of the problem.

  • DVI Adapter for LED Cinema Display Mini DisplayPort?

Is there an adapter for use with the new LED Cinema display port? I expect the new Mini's to switch to the Mini DisplayPort, if there is a new Mini, but in the meantime ...
Now that everything is going black, glass and aluminum, when is Apple going to update:
    1) Keyboards to black keys?
    2) Mouse to black and/or aluminum?
    3) Mini, AirPort Extreme, Time Capsule to black & aluminum?
    4) Power Adapters, Airport Express, cables, etc. to black and/or aluminum?
    Finally a unified product line/look!

Actually after thinking about it, the immediate solution is likely a short DVI extension cord combined with the Mini DisplayPort to DVI adapter. I would prefer a small Apple adapter to ship with the display however, much in the same way as the DB-15 adapter shipped with the VGA version of the old LCD Studio Display, or at least make one for sale. Guess Apple is leaving this up to third parties as usual.
The Apple Mini DisplayPort to DVI adapter would not work in this case as it is a male (Mini DisplayPort) to female (DVI) adapter. The new 24" Cinema Display has a non-removable cable ending in a male (Mini DisplayPort). As a male plug will not connect to a male plug it will not work.
I am sure soon enough various third-parties like Gefen, Griffin, and Belkin will come up with suitable adapters which do have the right genders. It is somewhat disappointing Apple have not done this themselves as I am sure plenty of Mac Pro owners are also salivating over this new display.
Arguably, Apple are repeating the same mistake they made with the ACD (Apple Cinema Display) connector and making it much harder and more expensive to use their displays with non Apple computers. That is they should have stuck with a standard DisplayPort connector rather than the esoteric Mini DisplayPort.
I equally hope someone comes up with Mini DisplayPort to (big) DisplayPort adapters as well.
On a totally different topic, I was also surprised and disappointed Apple did not switch to 16:9 displays for these new products (they are all still 16:10). The rest of the industry has already started switching to 16:9 displays and the clear trend is that 16:10 is on its way out. Still, the black border of these Apple displays does very conveniently hide the blank pixels (when playing a 16:9 video).
