Mini DisplayPort to HDMI Adapter plays video but does not do Audio

Ok I was told by someone at the Apple Store durring my one to one secession that I could get a mini to HDMI cable and the video and audio from my laptop would be displayed on the TV.
This was the cable I was told to get http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0025V2VO0/ref=oxya_ohproduct
Mini DisplayPort to HDMI Adapter (female) Cable for Apple Mac
Now it displays the video on the TV but no audio.

Apparently it's the current range of MBP's that's the issue. In theory, the displayport standard supports audio.

It would help to know which one of the 9 different models of MacBook you have. To see which model you have go to the Apple in the upper left corner and select About This Mac, then click on More Info. When System Profiler comes up check the Model Identifier and post it back here.

  • No audio via Mini DisplayPort to HDMI Adapter

    I have a late 2008 model (MB470LL/A) 15" MacBook Pro running 10.6.7.
I purchased a Dynex Mini DisplayPort to HDMI Adapter that's not picking up the audio signal. The video plays  fine via HDMI to our TV, but no audio.
In looking online I've seen this is a known issue. Has anyone discovered a work around other then running a separate audio cable from my computer to the TV?
I'm really surprised there is no audio this way. Someone dropped the ball on this one.

I might be wrong but the MBP 2008 does not have audio supplied capability over MDP to HDMI.

  • Mini DisplayPort to HDMI Adapter by Belkin for iMac 2009 failed to work

This is an SOS message. I have purchased another Mini DisplayPort to HDMI Adapter and I have iMac (27-inc, Late 2009) running OS X Yosemite (Version 10.10.1).  I have carried out the connection of Mini DisplayPort to HDMI adapter to LG Plasma TV Screen, but there is no sign of any of the equipment reading or aware of the connection.  Is there anybody out there who can help me make it work?  Also, why is that Yosemite - System Preference, click on Displays does not contain - Arrangement?  I'll greatly appreciate any useful tips from the community or apple support team.

Eric has helped in providing in dept understanding around the subject matter, but unfortunately, it has not provided the solution to the problem.
The Mini DisplayPort to HDMI Adapter when connected to the external Plasma TV screen, nothing happens.  The System Preferences was accessed -and the Displays monitor sign was clicked, but it only showed - Display/Colour, which according to the instructions / descriptions contain in the - Video Troubleshooting Internal and External Monitors literatures and video, there seems to be missing - Arrangement / or AirPlay from my OS X Yosemite version.
The above is the version of OS X Yosemite - showing on my *iMac when clicked on System Preferences, and as result I have not been able to make the Mini DisplayPort to HDMI Adapter to LG Plasma TV Screen to work.
    My *iMac is -
    iMac (27-inch, Late 2009)
    iMac10,1
    (10.10.1)
    MB952XX/A
    Running OS X Yosemite
When the above image is compared with the following image below, there is definitely something missing and it’s probably affecting the Mini DisplayPort to HDMI Adapter to work in my connection.
    Questions:
How can I make my iMac 10,1 (27-in, late 2009, currently running OS X Yosemite 10.10.1) to have the above AirPlay mirroring or Arrangement to activate the connection?
Are there other ways I can make the connection to work?
Is there any body who has a similar iMac specs and OS X Yosemite who has overcome connecting to external Plasma TV Screen?

  • Mini Displayport to HDMI Adapter - Sound?

I have hooked up my mini by the Mini Displayport to HDMI adapter to my Philips FlatTV. Sound is only played by the internal mini speaker, not from TV.
According Apple Support the sound should be working on the TV when using the adapter. They reckon my adapter is broken.
I know that there is no sound from the Minidvi to HDMI adapter unless you use external audio cable, but with the Mini Displayport?
Has anyone actually managed to make this work?
    Thanks!

As already pointed out in this thread, Apple currently do not support routing audio out via the Mini Displayport connector even though the Displayport specifications allow for this. Therefore a 'standard' Mini Displayport to HDMI adapter will not be able to provide audio since the Mac will not be sending it.
However many people have been disappointed with Apple's omission and as a result at least one manufacturer of adapters has developed a solution to workaround this.
If you look at http://www.monoprice.com/products/product.asp?cid=104&cp_id=10428&cs_id=1042802&pid=5311&seq=1&format=2 you will see the 'standard' style Mini Displayport to HDMI adapter which due to Apple, does not currently provide audio. If you however look at this model http://www.monoprice.com/products/product.asp?cid=104&cp_id=10428&cs_id=1042802&pid=6331&seq=1&format=2 then it gets round the problem by connecting to both the Mini Displayport on a Mac and the Mac's Mini TOS-Link digital output and then 'merges' them together before sending them out via a single HDMI cable. This would therefore provide audio to your TV.

  • Any Mini DisplayPort to HDMI adapter with audio for macbook pro mid 2009

connecting MacBook Pro (15-inch, Mid 2009) to Hisense TV with audio?!?!!?
    hello everyone.
if anyone is familar with successfully getting the older macbook pros that dont support audio out to stream and preform digital audio on a TV or has any helpful information that will get me familiar with trying to successfully stream audio and visual. and can PLEASE HELP ME in any way to understand what they know and teach me how to solve my problem id really appreciate it.
i want to connect my MacBook Pro (15-inch, Mid 2009) to my Hisense LED LCD TV, ModelNumber:40H3E  and getting digital audio sound from my TV as well as video, but have no clue on how or where to even start to successfully pairing the two and getting sound.
I own a MacBook Pro (15-inch, Mid 2009) this MacBook model doesnt support an HDMI port. My MacBooks model has the Mini Displayport which supports video out but does not support audio out. Can someone help me by telling me exactly which Mini DisplayPort to HDMI adapter with audio will support my model MacBook Pro (15-inch, Mid 2009) and exactly what HDMI wire do i need to buy that will successfully preform digital audio and sadisfying quality visual through TV?
i have NO expierence with the proccess have NO knowledge about any of this or these Mini DisplayPort to HDMI adapters with audio. i have no idea what kind of adapter and HDMI cord to buy that will give me sound from my tv for my type of macbook. '
im not familar AT ALL with any of this so i hope me giving you my MacBook Pros make and model and my TV's model number will be enough information for someone to help me.
just please give me anything you can on this topic
    thank you so much,

With a 2009 MacBook Pro, you need to use two connections to your TV: one for video and another one for audio.  The miniDisplayPort on the 2009 models does not support audio, so you need a separate audio cable:
miniDisplayPort adapter for video - I use the Apple miniDisplayport-DVI adapter + a DVI-HDMI cable like this one
audio cable for audio - use a 3.5mm male stereo-to-2xRCA male cable like this one
Connect the miniDisplayport adapter + DVI/HDMI cable to your MacBook Pro's miniDisplayPort output and the HDMI input on your TV
Connect the audio cable to your MacBook Pro's audio out and your TV's audio in
The only potential gotcha is if your Hisense TV requires audio via the HDMI cable when you use an HDMI cable.  The H3e user manual is unclear about this.

  • Is HDCP protection always on when using Mini DisplayPort to HDMI adapter?

I'm trying to capture my MacBook Air (2010) desktop for use in a Podcast.
So I purchased a Mini DisplayPort to HDMI adapter and plugged that into a HDMI capture card on another machine.
Unfortunately it keeps telling me the stream is protected and it won't display anything.
I've tried my 2010 iMac and 2011 Mac Mini too, but they all produce the same issue.
If i plug them directly into a TV instead then they display fine, but not when connected to the capture card.
A windows based laptop with HDMI out works fine as does a DVD player. But when I attempt to play a cop protected DVD - then the HDCP kicks in and the picture is blocked.
Does anyone know if there is a way to display just the Lion Desktop without invoking HDCP protection?
    Thanks in Advance
    Anthony

Is the failure repeatable? If not, I would forget that it happened once and move on. It had something to do with pages moving in and out of the registers. S**t happens.

  • Mini Displayport To HDMI adapter

Just installed Lion on my 2010 MacBook Pro 15" (Intel Core i7). I bought a mini displayport to HDMI adapter and it doesn't seem to detect my 27" LED monitor. The screen flashes for a moment on my MacBook and my external monitor wakes up but suddenly goes into power save mode. Is there something I'm missing? I thought it was a simple plug and play. Any advice would be great.
    Thanks.

    Hello there people.
I have found the solution to this hdmi sound problem on lion.
I recently bought a TECHLINK WIRES MEDIA off ebay and it worked perfect with my 2011 apple macbook pro lion. I plugged it in to my 2008 samsung tv in to the hdmi 3 port and there it was sound and vision like you have never seen it before picture perfect and quality clear sound, just shut the lid and it displays on the big screen. The quality of this cable is excellent and i am wondering if it is worth paying that bit extra for a TECHLINK APPLE MACBOOK PRO MINI DISPLAY TO HDMI CABLE 2.0M as it might be the quality what you need to solve this problem.
Thanks everybody for your support on this subject, and thanks to jon who sent me the cable to do a review for him.
Feel free to leave a comment.

  • Mini DisplayPort to HDMI Adapter ... yes or no

    Hi
Is it possible to use a Mini DisplayPort to HDMI Adapter like this one to connect the HDMI out port on my Nokia N8 to my 27" imac?
    http://www.monoprice.com/products/notify.asp?cid=104&cp_id=10428&cs_id=1042802&p_id=5311&cmd=ansubmit
    Thank you

You are right: Thunderbolt supports both Mini DisplayPort cables and adapters without any problem, but Mini DisplayPort does not support Thunderbolt cables.
If you have got an Apple display with Mini DisplayPort, you can use it with the new Mac Pro. Just use the Mini DisplayPort cable or adapter you need. See > http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5219?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US#22

  • HT4241 Mini DisplayPort to HDMI adapter, no sound

I've bought a Mini DisplayPort to HDMI adapter when connected to my SONY BRAVIA, it only showed video, the audio sound still came from my laptop not from my tv? shouldn't HDMI support both audio and video

I believe the 2010 and newer ones support audio through the HDMI cable. Earlier MBPs will require one to tap the audio output port and run separate wires to the RCA audio input connectors on the TV.  Also you might check your Sony user manual to make certain that you have it set up correctly as well as the MBP.
    Ciao.

  • Mini-DisplayPort to HDMI adapter not coming soon

Despite what has appeared in various blogs around the web (and what I had been told previously), it looks like a Mini-DisplayPort to HDMI adapter from Monoprice will not be arriving this month. An e-mail message from monoprice tech support states:
"We are searching for vendors who can produce this for us, but have not found a solution yet. We can not provide any type of time frame regarding when they will be available until we find a source, get a contract and make an announcement. We appreciate your patience and will do our best to find a source if any exists."
So, for those of us expecting such an adapter by the end of this month, this is not good news. It's possible a manufacturing source will be found soon, though now that it has been announced that the mini Display Port is part of the new VESA Display Port 1.2 industry standard.

i was wondering why the website did not even show the MDP to HDMI at all but showed a MDP to VGA and MDP to DVI. sigh..
maybe i'll have to buy the 24" Cinema display hahaa

  • Mac is not connecting to TV after using Mini DisplayPort to HDMI Adapter Cable?

Macbook Pro is not connecting to TV after using Mini DisplayPort to HDMI Adapter Cable. 2010 Macbook Pro, just purchased Mini DisplayPort to HDMI Adapter Cable from Amazon. Link here: http://www.amazon.com/Mini_Dis-HDMI-CB6-Mini-DisplayPort-Adapter-Cable/dp/B003OC 6LWM/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1406238976&sr=8-2&keywords=mac+to+tv --When i connect both ends of the cable to the TV and to the laptop, the screen will blink, but then afterwards it will not mirror on the TV. I have tried going to display setting but cannot find the arrangements tab. When i searched "arrangements" a message said, "The Arrangement tab of Displays preferences is hidden because you only have a single display attached to this computer." Not sure how to fix this problem. I have connected this laptop to a TV before, but with a different cable other than the one i just purchased. Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

Found the fix.  Still don't know if it was Windows, iTunes, or Norton 360, but this worked immediately for me:

  • Connect Mid-2009 Macbook Pro to HDTV via Mini Displayport to HDMI adapter

    Hello,
I'm trying to connect my Mac to my HDTV via a Mini Displayport to HDMI converter I bought at the Apple Store. I have tried on three different HDTVs, none of which allow me to output video. I have tried adjusting the resolution to every available resolution under system preferences. Any advice as to how to resolve this problem would be very much appreciated.
    Thank you,
    Jordan

I'm having the same problem, also with a 2009 13" MBP and a Mini DisplayPort to HDMI adapter.  Does anyone out there have a solution?  Do we need a different kind of adapter?  My tv is a Samsung 720p.  My boyfriend can connect his PC laptop with an HDMI cable with no issues.

  • Can i connect a "Mini DisplayPort to HDMI Adapter" to my macbook pro and t.v without having to buy the hdmi adapter?

I have a macbook pro 13 inch running on mavericks 10.9.2  and i was wondering if i could just use the "Mini Display Port to HDMI Adapter" and connect it directly from my computer to my t.v? because i see a lot of people on youtube connecting the "hdmi adapter" to the computer first, then connecting a regular HDMI cord to the adapter, then lastly to the t.v........ Does it make a difference whether or not I connect a "HDMI Display Port" directly from the computer to the t.v without using a adapter to connect with a regular hdmi cord??? what is the adapter really for anyways???

    eric199398,
without knowing precisely which computers the people on YouTube are using, it’s hard to say whether they’re taking unnecessary steps or not. You should be able to connect the Mini DisplayPort side of a Mini DisplayPort to HDMI adapter to your Thunderbolt port, and connect the HDMI side of the adapter to your TV’s HDMI port.
