Mini DisplayPort to VGA Adaptor not Mirroring

13-inch MacBook Pro (Mid 2012) running 10.8.3
Monoprice Mini DisplayPort to VGA Adaptors freeze the system (no issues with Monoprice Mini DisplayPort to DVI connected to monitor) so I tried an Apple Mini DisplayPort to VGA Adaptor and that works ok, EXCEPT it doesnt automatically mirror to projectors like older models I have used.
Is the 13-inch MacBook Pro (Mid 2012) supposed to auto mirror when connected to projectors using Mini DisplayPort to VGA Adaptor?
Thanks for any assistance.

I havent had a chance to test, yet it looks like if I create the settings for mirroring when the projector is attached to the laptop, the setting should stick moving forward..  I thought it just auto-sensed.  Will try and report back here if there are any changes or to solve the ticket...

  • Mini DisplayPort to VGA Adaptor : Gateway Monitor FPD1760 - Compatible ?

Hi. Is the Apple, Mini DisplayPort to VGA Adaptor compatible with Gateway Monitors?, I own a Gateway FPD1760 (Specs : http://www.dealtime.com/xPF-Gateway-Gateway-Monitor-FPD1760).
Just wanted to know if I should be going with Mini DisplayPort to VGA Adaptor or) Mini DisplayPort to DVI adapter, as I have heard too many complaints about the former.
    Thanks in advance

If your monitor has DVI input, get the DVI adapter. DisplayPort is digital, DVI is digital, but VGA is analog - the signal conversion will result in a (slight) drop in quality.

  • Mini DisplayPort to VGA adapter not working under Vista (Boot Camp).

    Hi there,
I'm facing a very serious issue with MacBook Pro Unibody running MS Vista under Boot Camp: using the Mini DisplayPort to VGA adapter to hook a projector is 95% impossible because the only resolution available is 640x480 or sometimes 800x600. No solution came from the adaptor firmware update, still same behavior: connecting the external projector/monitor toggles 640x480 resolution with no more choices available. Just 5% of attempts on selected projectors gave me access to the complete resolutions list.
This is having a serious impact on my job where I do need both Mac&Windows running natively and with external display capabilities, please I'm looking for some feedback from users facing the same problem or someone who had an official answer on this issue from Apple. Do avoid posting about using modded display drivers please: I know they exist but the adaptor should be working with original ones.
I can understand Apple does not support MS Vista issues but this seems to be a hardware/driver one.
I'd like to point out I'm using a clean Vista installation with Apple drivers (from the Leopard DVD) and I've run Vista (same version, same gfx drivers etc) under Boot Camp on my previous MPB (with integrated DVI output+adapter) on hundreds of different projectors with never a single problem.
    Any feedback is really appreciated.
    L.

I'm having the same problem. When I try to connect to the switch in our conference room (connecting both a flat panel display and/or a projector, both with much higher native resolutions), all I get is 640x480. This is a huge problem to using bootcamp, and I really need to get this to work. I was able to get a higher resolution 1280x800 on a separate, portable display, so I'm wondering if people have the problem with standalone projectors or only with projectors connected to some sort of switch, in my case an Extron MPX423A. I have also tried this in both Windows Vista (32-bit) and Windows 7 RC1 (32-bit), with the bootcamp drivers and the latest NVidia drivers, and the behavior is the same all around.

  • Mini DisplayPort auf VGA Adapter not working

    Hi,
While in Germany I bought a 'Mini DisplayPort auf VGA Adapter' in order to be able to do presentations on a Beamer. This worked fine for a couple of weeks but now has stopped working.
I reinstalled the operating system to be sure that no drivers are missing but still would not work. I borrowed the same adaptor from a friend and his works fine.
How can I have it exchanged please? On top of that I am not sure I can still find the receipt because as it was working fine for the first few weeks I assumed it will remain fine and probably threw this away.
    Any help is appreciated!

    Thanks CellarDwellr.
I live in Vienna and things are always different here.
We do not have any Apple Store but a company that represents Apple called McShark.
I went to them with the adaptor and they said they needed my MacAir serial number in order to send it in. Never heard that in order to replace a faulty cable one needs also the serial number of the machine, did you?! ...
So I go home again and get the serial numbers of both my iMac and my MacAir.
After waiting on them for over half an hour they say they may still not be able to send it in because I do not have the receipt of the purchase. I asked why they could not have told me this earlier on instead of wasting half my day ... The assistant said, yes they could have, but didn't even apolgoize!
Anyway she needs to verify with her colleague and call me on Monday to tell me if they can send it to Apple or not.
Unbelievable bad service and even worse attitude. If anyone from Apple company reads this my suggestion is to revise their association with this company as it ruins the good brand they have.

  • X1 connectivity problem with old VGA beam projector using mini displayport to VGA adaptor.

    Hi all,
I would like to ask you how to connect this X1 with VGA projector as well.
actually, X1 has a external interface specification as  mini displayport 1.1a.
So I bought mini displayport to VGA adapter from MAC store.
(Actually, Lenovo Korea office doesn’t sell this adapter directly on Korea, even in the future.)
and try to connect both of LED monitor and beam projector.
LED monitor was worked as well. but, this adaptor doesn't work with VGA projector. TT
Please help me how to work this adaptor with projector as well.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Hi everybody. I was having the same issue here, but I bought a Mac minidisplayport to VGA adapter. It worked on my Monitor but it was not working on my clients VGA beam projectors. But today I figured out a way to make it work, and it is pretty easy; just change your laptop screen resolution.
When you connect the mini Dport to VGA adapter to the projector VGA receiver cable, just change your laptop screen resolution to 1024x768 (maximum) and the projector will receive the signal with no problem.
This is the best solution that I found, because is easy to find a Mac/Apple Mini display Port to VGA adapter.
Hope this works for you too.
    Regards,
    J.

  • Mini DisplayPort to VGA adapter not waking monitor

    Hi,
I've had my Mac mini for about a month now (the 2010 model with 2.4GHz Core 2 Duo and 2GB of RAM). Initially I had it connected to a 32" TV via HDMI which worked perfectly. However I have now switched to a 24" Iiyama ProLite E2410HDSD which doesn't have a HDMI socket. I've bought a Mini DisplayPort to VGA adapter.
Whenever I put the mini to sleep or switch it off, the display does not come back on. To get it to work, I have to unplug the adapter from the mini and plug it back in again. Is there any way to get it to work all of the time?
    Thanks,
    Thomas
Edit : Just booted into Windows 7 using Boot Camp, and putting that to sleep and waking it works perfectly!

I think I know what's wrong, but I don't know of a good way to fix it. The Iiyama is not constructed correctly. It appears that it's DDC channel goes down when it's sleeping, which it shouldn't do, unless it allows auxiliary power on the VGA cable to keep the channel active, which it also seems like it isn't doing.
Does the Iiyama have a DVI input? That might work better with the correct adapter. Although if they messed up the architecture of the VGA port, they may have messed up DVI, too.

  • Mini DisplayPort to VGA Adaptor for my iMac app?

I installed my Mini DisplayPort to VGA Adapter to my iMac and connected it to a ViewSonic Pro 8500 DCP projector and was unable to get the image on my iMac projected on to the screen.  Do I need an app for this and if so how do I obtain one?

No. No 'app' is required. Check the display resolution you have set. It's likely the Mac is not able to detect the max resolution of the projector you've connected it to. You may have to set the display resolution manually.

  • Elitebook 810 - Displayport to VGA adaptor not connecting dual monitor

I bought a displayport to VGA adaptor (Insignia) for connecting Elitebook 810 to my old HP monitor. When I connect the monitor 'goes to sleep' and won't display. Received msg I can't recreate about not recognizing the hardware and to use HP hardware. Any fixes? Thanks!

    Displayport is a digital signal.
    VGA is an analog signal.
This will never work. Your solution is to either get the ultraslim dock that comes with VGA or get a monitor that has displayport OR HDMI.  Then you can buy the DP to HDMI (because both are digital signals). DP and HDMI carry the audio signal so you can hear audio from the monitor (if it has speakers).

  • Mini DisplayPort to VGA Adapter NOT DISPLAYING ON EXTERNAL SCREEN

    Hello!
    Mid 2012 MacBook Pro
Processor  2.9 GHz Intel Core i7
    Memory  8 GB 1600 MHz DDR3
    Graphics  Intel HD Graphics 4000
    Software  OS X 10.9.3 (13D65)
I have a mid 2012 MacBook Pro, I have connected a Mini DisplayPort to VGA Adapter in order to watch movies on a HP w19e LCD display.
Ive been using this adapter for a year now and I have never had any problems with it, until now...whenever I connect it to my mac's display turns black, and nothing happens, so I wait and the LCD display shows the unfurtunate NO SIGNAL message, so I wait a little longer and still nothing happens, I unplug the Mini DisplayPort and plug it back in, and nothing happens, and when I say nothing happens I mean nothing happens, my mac's display is black as if it was in sleep mode, I get no signal on the HP LCD and I can't get my computer's display to show image again, the only way to do it is to force restart it.
I looked up the problem and I found a forum with a possible solution for it and did as it said.
    1) Restart the computer in Safe Mode with display attached (shut down and restart while holding down shift key).
The display showed up without distortion.
    2) Change the display to my desired preferences (dimensions and refresh rate).
    3) Restart computer. ...and it works like a charm.
I followed the directions and it worked... but after I restar to go back to um.. normal mode, the problem is back.
Please I need my LCD screen how can I fix this.
I hope I didn't confuse anyone, sorry for my english

  • Can I use the mini displayport to vga adaptor with the xbox vga cable to connect my xbox 360 to my macbook pro?

I'm trying to find a way to connect my xbox 360 to my mackbook pro. I've searched the internet and found that I can use a eagle eye device but, its to expensive. So after looking at the xbox website, I found a vga adaptor for my xbox and an vga to mini displayport and I was wondering if this would work.

The minidisplay port is output only. It's not going to show anything from your xbox.

  • Poor colour depth/banding with Apple Mini-DisplayPort-to-VGA adaptor?

I'm using the Apple Mini Display Port to VGA adaptor to hook my MBP up to a projector in the theatre where I give lectures.
I am getting colour depth/ banding issues - images seem to be displayed in thousands of colours, rather than millions, creating really bad banding problems.
I know it isn't an issue with the projector - for comparison purposes I tried playing a DVD through a DVD player connected to the projector, and then through the MBP connected to the projector, and the diference in colour depth was really noticeable. In fact it was virtually unwatchable through the MBP.
Is there a preference pane I'm missing somewhere which will increase the colour depth?
Is there a better adaptor than the Apple one that I need to buy?
Or is this a problem inherent in the minidisplay port to VGA conversion process?
Any tips or pointers would be greatly appreciated.

If your monitor has DVI input, get the DVI adapter. DisplayPort is digital, DVI is digital, but VGA is analog - the signal conversion will result in a (slight) drop in quality.

  • Mini Displayport to VGA problem - not recognizing

    Hi all,
First, thanks for your patience as I am new to these forums and thanks for reading and hopefully helping.
We purchased an apple branded mini DP to VGA adapter about a week ago from an auth. reseller in Prague (US expats). We are using the adapter to watch video from our MacBook Pro on an Epson projector. Everything worked great for about a week and all of a sudden (truly, no software changes, updates, dropped adapters, etc. etc. etc.) it stopped working. By "it" I think I mean the mini DP adapter or the plug itself. The reason I think this is b/c the computer doesn't even recognize when the adapter is plugged in; previously, when plugging ONLY the adapter into the mini DP plug, the screen would flash blue, now - nothing.
I have reset PRAM and the SMC and still no change. I checked when I first purchased the adapter and found that the firmware was indeed up to date.
Any ideas? Hoping for insight before having to deal with the extraordinary language barrier.
    Thanks again.

    Hello
I have this Problem too, my monitor best resolution is 1680 X 1050 but I can not set it, i have only 1600*1200 or 1440*1050, what can I to do?
but i don't have this problem with my MacBook Pro 10.6.4, I have best resolution 1680*1050

  • HT3492 mini displayport to vga adapter not working under windows 7

i've read the article above. How can this firmware affect operation under Windows 7 OS? I have a dual boot system and tested several mini dp-vga adapter, all of them seem to either stop working after a while or doesnt work at all. i have a macbook pro 13"(early 2011) and a macmini i5 4gb

  • Mini DisplayPort to VGA adapter not working

    Hello all!
I purchased a new adapter today off amazon. When I plug it in (with or without VGA cable attached) the screen goes blue for a few moments and comes back to my OS Screen, however, none of my external displays are recognized! My projecter, HDTV, 4:3 monitor, and my Dell 16:10 monitor are all undetected. I tried installing the infamous update and it did not want to (said could not detect adapter). I'm assuming it's rather new seeing how it said thunderbolt on the box, but the box came all ripped open.
Other than returning the product, is there any way to try to get this thing working?

Yeah i tried it with another 19" monitor which had the same outcome, there was a signal but no image.
If it's not working with two different monitors, that's a pretty sure sign the adapter is bad.

  • Mini DisplayPort to VGA

Have a New MacBook Pro - Trying to get it to work with the mini DisplayPort to VGA cable on a DELL 2100MP Projector. Can not get anything to happen. The DELL Projector works fine with a PC Laptop plugged VGA to VGA and or a PC Desktop plugged VGA to VGA cable. The desktop PC is using Analog RBG 1024 x 768 75Hz.
The MacBook Pro and the mini Display Port works fine on various monitors around the office, just can't get anything to happen on the Projector?

    Hi tforbes7,
When you plug an external display into a new unibody MacBook Pro (15" or 17") the graphics circuitry in the computer decides whether the external display is an analog display or a digital display, based on the adaptor that you've plugged in. *It does support both analog and digital.* The Apple rep you spoke to misspoke themselves. A VGA connection is always analog, and a DVI connection is always digital.
The problem here is that your 17" MBP only detects the mini-DisplayPort to DVI adaptor. So, because DVI is an all-digital signal, the MBP sends out the digital signal. The VGA adaptor cannot deal with this video signal, and so the video is not able to be passed on to the projector.
The solution, of course, is to purchase a mini-DisplayPort to VGA adaptor for use with VGA external displays, including projectors. You cannot use a mini-DisplayPort to DVI adaptor and a DVI to VGA adaptor in tandem. I myself use a mini-DisplayPort to VGA adaptor (for greater compatibility) and it has worked with every external display I have tried as of yet. When you plug in the mini-DisplayPort to VGA adaptor, an analog signal that is compatible with the analog display is outputted from the computer.
The bottom line is this: If you need to connect a projector or external display, choose the best quality connection "method" that is common to both devices. If your projector supports DVI, you should use the mini-DisplayPort to DVI adaptor that you already have, and bypass VGA entirely. If your projector only supports VGA, then you must purchase a mini-DisplayPort to VGA adaptor for use with that projector. It should work.
    One more thing:
Make sure you upgrade the firmware on the mini-DisplayPort to VGA adaptor if you do indeed need to purchase one. This upgrade will show up in Software Update when you have the adaptor plugged into your MBP and is necessary for compatibility with some external displays.
If you have any further questions or require clarification please don't hesitate!
