Mini DV decks to use with Premiere Pro?

I have a few questions regarding mini DV decks and Premiere Pro.
First, is there any Mini DV deck on the market right now that will actually NOT be useful with Premiere Pro?
Does anyone have a personal favorite?
Is there anything I should look out for when I'm looking for one?
I know these are very general questions, but I have no clue whatsoever, and the only way to start to get a clue is to ask. If there's anything else I should be aqskingg/looking for, please say so.

1. Not that I'm aware of.
2. Yes. Sony, SR11 in particular or Panasonic NV-DV2000.
3. Reliability, switchable between NTSC and PAL may be of interest

  • What's a good HD camera to use with Premiere Pro CS4

I've used Premiere Pro CS4 for a while now and most of the time I don't have any problems, but recently, I've been buying HD cameras, shooting some AVCHD and then having a hell of a time getting them to play nice with Premiere Pro (or WMindows Media Player... or Quicktime... or anything but their crappy bundled software that won't let me edit or anything). My girlfriend says I should give up and buy a Mac and use FCP, but I like Premiere Pro. I'm about to take another camera back to Best Buy and I'm wondering if anyone has a suggestion for the easiest camera to use with Premiere Pro.
In case you're wondering, I've bought a Canon Vixia HF10 and a Samsung HMX-H100 so far and both had every issue I can think of from codec incompatibility to aspect ratios changing to A/V sync being lost to all-out-I-don't-know-WTF-just-happend-errors. I just want a camera that's going to give me a file I can drop straight into Premiere.

Unless you want a new computer, forget about AVCHD. It requires too much muscle to edit comfortably on anything but the fastest computer.
What camera is nice, depends on your budget. Formats that are easy to edit are HDV, DVCProHD (P2) and XDCAM. In the consumer range you could look at the Canon HV40 or XH-A1s, in the prosumer range look at the Panasonic AG-HPX170, Canon XH-H1s, JVC GY-ND250 or Sony HVR Z5 or Z7 and all Sony XDCAM cameras, especially the EX1 and EX3. In the professional range look at the Sony PDW-F355 or upward.

  • I just purchased a 28" 4K monitor to use with Premiere Pro CS6 in WIndows 8.1 and the fonts are super tiny.

No matter what settings I choose, the fonts on the display are impossibly tiny.  The menu fonts at top are readable, but everything else feels like I am taking an eye exam.
Is this fixable, or do I need to return the 4K monitor and fuhgedaboutit?
Since I am doing some shooting in 4K, I thought this monitor would make sense.
If in fact it can't work with PP CS6 on WIn 8.1, what is the best recommended monitor to use with PP CS6?

I understand your issue and I don't have a solution for you. Sorry. In Premiere Pro CC 2014, you can increase the size of the fonts in the Project panel, but not in CS6.

You may want to ask this in ourHardware Forum.

  • What is the best PC laptop to use with Premiere Pro 2014?

I'm excited that I get to buy a NEW LAPTOP!!!
I'm editing a documentary with tons of footage.  I'll use external SSD drive for files.
What is the best PC laptop to get for editing movies on Premiere Pro 2014?
I can spend up to $1500
Thanks SO MUCH for your help!!!!

premiere will run fine with the 7200rpm hdd. while editing, if your hdd/ssd isn't fast enough it will stutter and skip as it cant feed the data fast enough to premiere. thats with high bitrate footage, if you are using low bitrate footage the 7200rpm might work ok to hold your footage too. odds are that external samsung ssd will be fast enough to hold the media, project cache and any preview files. you shouldn't need another external hdd for export/render.
the ssd for internal will let windows boot faster and let programs open and close faster. once windows is loaded and programs are opened, they load into ram. there is little to be gained after that for ssd/hdd speeds while using most programs.

  • What's the BEST MINI DV deck to use with FCP 5?

I'm tired of using my Gl-1's to capture with. My small zr50 doesn't work that great for a dv deck.
Tell me what brands you have had complete success with.

I'm looking at buying a DVCPro deck to add to my
arsenal right now, which will also play mini-dv and
DVCAM, so depending on what else is going on in your
market, that might be something to look into.
I bought my DSR-11 when I lived in San Francisco.
Outside of news, nobody used DVCPro. All shoots
were hired for DVCAM, Beta, or HD. So I bought a
DVCAM deck. Around Des Moines, nobody shoots DVCAM.
It's all DVCPro and mini dv, and I shoot HD
    occasionally.
AJ-SD93, very sweet machine! this is the vtr i would love to have.
thrillcat, RAGBRAI overnights in waukee, close to des moines this year. if you're out there with your camera video taping folks in lycra who shouldn't be wearing it and should know better, i'll wave at your camera as i'm zipping by!

  • What is the ideal monitor for use with Premiere Pro CC?

I am looking for a new monitor in the 27-28" range.  I edit mostly HD content, but also some 4K.  My price range is up to $1,200.

For HD you should consider the Dell UltraSharp U2413 it is a 10-bit monitor with 100% coverage of sRGB and has a built-in hardware 14-bit LUT. With just a little bit of work you can get it to a pretty much perfect broadcast output. It is only 24", but it is 1920x1200 so the output is true pixel to pixel, which I find is more important than size. You can get it for under $500.
For 4K you could go with the UP2414Q or if you prefer 27" over 24", the P2715Q. Although the P2715Q is not a "Premier Color" monitor, it still gives you a 10-bit display and 99% sRGB coverage.

  • Which DV Deck to use with Powermac

I'm trying to find out which mini dv deck to use with my G5 Tower to import footage to edit in imovie and final cut. I don't want to waste money on a camera just to import footage, but I also need a deck that can import mini dv, VHS, and DVD, either on the actual machine or to be able to hook those up to it seperately. I do have a budget, but I'm willing to stretch it if the product will be worth it, do everything I want it to do, and last pretty long. Any suggestions are very welcome as I'd like to purchase as soon as possible.
    PowerMac G5   Mac OS X (10.4.4)   2.0 Ghz, 2GB RAM, 160GB HD

That's a good suggestion. I had something similar called the Hollywood DV Bridge and I'm afraid it malfunctioned and blew out my firewire ports, so I'm a bit wary about those converters. Also, I don't have a camera to import mini dv so I need an actual deck and not just a converter, but I will look into because it looks like a good product. Does it also connect with DVD players to import footage?

  • Using my JVC BR-DV3000E DVR with Premiere Pro CS5

I have been testing out the use of my JVC BR-DV3000E DVR (Digital Video Recorder) using a new PC running Windows 7 (64 bit) and Premiere Pro CS5.  The connection is via the firewire cable supplied with the device.  It worked fine on my original PC running Windows XP with Premiere Pro 1.5.1.
When I open the capture window in CS5 it shows the message "Device Offline" at the top of the capture window and all the transport controls are greyed out. I have played around with the settings but nothing seems to overcome the problem.  I am trying to capture miniDV footage in SD.  Has anyone come across this problem before on either the same device or similar and has anyone any suggestion on how to fil the problem please?

Try these to see if they work
    SD capture http://windv.mourek.cz/ or http://www.scenalyzer.com/main.html
I do know that the demo of Scenalyzer puts a mark in the video, so don't do anything real until you pay and enter the registration code
I don't know about the other program

  • Using an external microphone with Premiere pro

Hey Guys, I'm new to this forum and I really don't know if you guys could help me with this. But I have bought a Samson C01U microphone a few days ago and I really want to use Adobe Premiere pro to record some guitar covers of myself. The problem is however; I record my video's with my sony handycam and I want to use my new mic to record the sound but when I press F5 (to capture a movie in Premiere pro) it still uses the microphone from my camera. What should I do?
I have already tried this: http://premierepro.wikia.com/wiki/Microphone
    Thanks everyone
    Stijn Jasper
    ~The Netherlands

This is how I do it at the moment: I start premiere pro and Audience. Then I turn off my speakers to make sure it doesn't get feedback from it. Then I hit record on both programs and sync up the video and audio lines after my movie is done (then I also disable the audio that my Handycam has recorded)
But that's a lot of work if you want to shoot many video's. There must be a better way right?
This is how I got my microphone enabled in Pr: http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/408/kb408222.html
It works, but only if I want to record AFTER I have recorded the movie (like a voice-over)
Any more ideas? (thanks for all the great reply's btw) you guys are really helpful

  • Using XVID with Premiere Pro CS3?

I'm trying to export to video using XVID encoder, two pass. I start the first pass, an XVID status window appears, and then it appears to get stuck.
Has anyone here used XVID with Premiere Pro CS3? If so, any suggestions?

Thanks, I'll try the options on XVID. Currently I've been exporting to raw AVI, then using AutoGK. I normally don't do use XVID, but for a partcicular racing game, there are some telephone wires that appear less aliased with XVID mpeg4, than the encoders you get with Premiere. I've tried the mpeg2, mpeg4, and windows encoders, and don't get quite the same results. One of the final destinations is a you tube "hi-def" video. I also make windows movie files since they also can be viewed while streaming via Windows Movie player. My web host throttles throughput to 350kb per second now, so I keep most of my videos at 640x480 at around 1972kbps for the video, 128kbps for the audio. <br /><br />Example wmv video from racing game<br />http://jeffareid.net/nfsuc/nucreoznds.wmv<br /><br />Example youtube video same video (<ctrl>+click to open new window):<br />http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wQuRfJMgsms&fmt=22<br /><br />Better example of youtube video, I don't know if it's content related or if youtube compressed better. This video was uploaded well before youtube had hi-def, but apparently they keep the original and re-encoded it for me. This is of a radio control glider at a slope site. Well, when I start working (should I say try to work with FCPX, activity monitor in the %processor column for FCPX jumps rapidly over 100% and reaches more than 200% ??? What the **** is that ?
200% or more is not strange. Remember that your mac has 4 cores (you say it's 3 months old, so I assume it is a new model), so 200% amounts to using 2 of these 4 cores to the max.
Regarding the question of creating a new admin user: while it sits in the same system, it may help if the problem is caused by some user-specific preferences or settings. Not likely in your case, since you seem to have reinstalled from scratch, but still it is worth a try. It takes 5 minutes and may help pinpoint the problem.
