Mini DVD stuck in drive

My darling son, who never causes us any problems, has done it this time.
He inserted a mini DVD into the drive slot. It never booted, the machine doesn't recognize it has a disk in the slot, it can't be ejeted, there's no little paperclip hole, etc.
Any ideas for removing this?
(My son appreciates a prompt reply so he can once again have dessert after dinner.)

If that doesn't work, you may have to try this trick:

If that doesn't work, you may have to get a compatible Firewire DVD drive from http://www.macsales.com/

  • Mini dvd stuck in drive - how do I eject it?

I inserted a mini DVD into the dvd drive.  The dvd player doesn't show that anything is in there and therefore won't eject it.  Please help.

I found another discussion on this same topic and already resolved the issue.

  • Mini handycam DVD stuck in drive

My son put a mini dvd into the drive and I am unclear as to how it can be ejected.

You can get it out easily using double-sided sticky tape. Just put it on a credit card and insert the card partially in the CD/DVD slot with the sticky tape facing downwards and press the eject key. Wait for the DVD drive to stop trying to eject the DVD and then just pull out the card and the DVD will come out stuck to it.

  • Mini dvd into optical drive

I have put a mini dvd into optical drive, what should I do to get it out?

If your computer has a tray-loading drive, eject it normally.
If it has a slot-loading drive, tilt the computer so that the drive faces downward, or try using a business card to grab hold of it.

How do I eject a dvd stuck in the drive? It does not appear on desktop.

  • How to get a mini-dvd out of drive

I'm sure this has been asked dozens of times, but I can't find it on here---maybe someone can point me in the right direction. My kids put a mini-dvd from our camcorder into our slot-loading drive. I know this is a big no no, but is there any good way to get it out? Thanks.

The best you can hope for is to try and shake the disc out of the optical drive, but it's not likely to work. You'll need to take the computer in for service in order to get the disc safely removed.

  • DVD stuck in drive ... tried everything...

I have an older (2007) Macbook Pro with a DVD stuck inside of it.
I have tried to force eject by using
    Terminal commnand
    Restart holding mouse / trackpad
    Restart holding EJECT
    Restart holding OPTION
and even downloading DISK EJECT app.
    None have worked.
The DVD does not show up on my desktop nor in any application.
When I attempt to burn a disc in iTunes (to see if it sees a disk in the drive) it tell me that there is no burner or software.
When I start up the macbook I hear the disc spinning in the drive but when it gets to my desktop screen, it spins down and never can be accessed.
This is an important DVD disc with files on it I need.  can anyone help with this?

you need to take it somewhere to have a professional look at it if none of the following steps work
    Force eject a stuck cd/dvd
First try the normal methods to remove the disc. Drag its icon to the Trash can in the Dock or select 'Eject' from the File menu.
If you are running a virtual machine, e.g. VMFusion, ensure that the CD is disconnected from the virtual machine. This will sometimes allow the CD to now show up in Mac OS X.
Shut down the computer and start up whilst holding down the mouse button. This may take some time, but keep your finger on the mouse button right up until the disc comes out or the log-in screen has appeared.
If you have Toast Titanium installed on your computer, choose EJECT DISC from the menubar.
Sometimes you can successfully use the eject disc button in iTunes even if the disc is not visible to the Finder
Open Disc utility and choose the disc you wish to eject in the left-hand pane, then click on the Eject button.
Some Macintoshes have a paperclip hole that you can insert a straightened paperclip into, manually triggering the eject mechanism.
Open Terminal and type "drutil tray eject" to eject the disc/tray, and "drutil tray close" to close the tray.
If your computer has an eject button on the keyboard, restart the computer holding down the Option key. When the startup disk selection screen appears, let go of the option key and press the keyboard's eject button.

  • MacBook osx 10.6 won't boot and has DVD stuck in drive

I have an older MacBook running osx 10.6 and it recently became unable to boot up.  It gets stuck on a gray screen with a dark gray apple logo, a spinning icon and a progress bar which goes all the way up and disappears.
I have tried the following from this page: Mac OS X: Gray screen appears during startup
-safe boot verbose, it gets partway through and then black screens
-resetting NVRAM / PRAM, it seems to just be trying to boot and persists in the problem.
It has a DVD in the drive and I cannot eject it any way I try, there is no pinhole to force eject and the eject arrow or left mouse key don't do a thing, and as I can't boot into safe mode or any other way I don't know how to eject it, and because the DVD is in there I can't reinstall the OS.
Any ideas?  I do have an external USB dvd reader I could try attaching to it to install the OS anew but not sure that would work...
    thanks
    Tamar

OS X- Gray progress bar appears under Apple logo during startup
    If you need to reinstall:
Reinstall OS X without erasing the drive
    1. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your Snow Leopard Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior and/or Tech Tool Pro to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
    2. Reinstall Snow Leopard
If the drive is OK then quit DU and return to the installer.  Proceed with reinstalling OS X.  Note that the Snow Leopard installer will not erase your drive or disturb your files.  After installing a fresh copy of OS X the installer will move your Home folder, third-party applications, support items, and network preferences into the newly installed system.
Download and install Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1.

  • Re: Mac Mini cd stuck in drive (Con't.)

    Hello All,
I've got quite the same pb with my mini (Intel 1.66, superdrive).
CD desapears from desktop, in the System Profile, the superdrive is non-existent : "no burning device avalaible etc...".
It's the fourth time that happens to my mini, and the only thing to do is to open the cover and remove the blocked CD manually. All tricks (mouse left click during start up etc...) are totally unefficient.
Then when i take off the drive, clean it, replug it and close the mini, the drive is there again, untill it stucks again...
=> hardware problem? => motherboard or the superdrive?
Any advice, idea of the origin of the problem?
    Thx!

    Welcome to Apple Discussions, Mugen!
This is a curious problem, and perhaps there's one piece of information missing that might be useful to know: when the CD disappears from the desktop, is it when you are trying to eject it?
If so, then to me, it sounds like what's happening is that the CD is fouling the inside of the mini's casing instead of sliding out into the slot in the case designed for it. In that situation, the system might sometimes recognize the problem and draw the disk back in, but often it doesn't, leaving a fault condition which it has no way to understand since there's no method by which it can recognize the jam.
In that situation, it's entirely possible for the drive itself to vanish from the system profile, and certainly the system would not recognize the CD such that you'd have a means to eject it by holding the mouse button or using the eject key (or F12 if not using a dedicated Apple keyboard), or even with the eject button in iTunes or Disk Utility etc. As far as the system is concerned at that point, there isn't a drive connected, let alone a disk in it to eject!
When you open the system and remove the drive, remove the disk, then reconnect, the system then sees the drive correctly again and all is well.
In other words, you may not actually have a hardware fault at all. Try operating the system without the top cover on (and thus nothing for the CD to foul against. If in the same circumstances that the problem had occurred previously the system behaves correctly and does not fail, then all you need to do is ensure the drive and the slot are correctly aligned when everything is reassembled. Even a tiny disparity in the alignment of the drive and the slot in the casing could be enough to cause this issue, and if the top has been removed before and the drive removed and reinstalled, that can often leave the two components slightly off-line with each other.

  • DVD stuck in drive but drive opens on Satellite A notebook

    Hi,
I have a DVD that is stuck inside the drive even though the dvd drive door opens and closes normally. The DVD was put in the drive and the drive door closed but the DVD was never snapped/locked into place.
Any idea on how to remove it?
    All help will be appreciated.
    Steve

Sorry but I do not understand what you want. If you can open the DVD devices door open it and try to remove the DVD media. DVD media is fixed with three small plastic parts that can be removed back. If you cannot remove alone ask somewhere for help.
I do not know what to say here. For some concrete opinion I need to have the notebook in front of me to see how it looks like.

  • DVD stuck in drive on OS 9.2 help

I've accidently put a blank DVD in the cd tray of my G4 quicksilver (which has a cd/dvd-rw drive!), it is now stuck!!, when i reboot the whole machine locks up and the OS won't load.
How can i force it to eject the disk without hammers??
P.S have tried frowning at it....
    G4 Quicksilver 933mhz   Mac OS 9.2.x

    Hi, ben -
Boot or restart - immediately press the mouse button down, keep it held down until the disk ejects. That's a hardware-based command to the Mac to eject all removable media.

  • !.4 GB DVD stuck in drive please help

hello i put a 1.4Gb DVD in my MBP and the drive touck in like normal but when i went to eject it it got stuck in the drive its lauged too far ford for the sencers to pick it up so i wont to know how to get it out.

Use something thin and hard like a strip of plastic or the tip of a knife, hold it just on top of the disc and hit the eject key.
Some CD's/DVD's with labels or funny thickness have been known to get stuck.

  • Mac Mini cd stuck in drive

I've had aMac Mini for less than a week and I've got an audio cd stuck in the superdrive. When I first inserted it, the mac spat it out, and I had to re-inserted it. It's now well and truly stuck. I've checked out the excellent forums here, and elsewhere, and tried all of the methods I could find, including terminal commands.
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=Mac/10.4/en/mh1750.html
None of these work. It sounds like the drive is continually trying to search for the disc. On re-boot the (audio) CD is briefly identified, but disappears when I try to eject. In the disk utility program the eject button is 'greyed-out'. It seems that the computer doesn't think there is a disc present, I know there is (Snow Patrol - Final Straw).
    thanks,
    Chris

Stuck discs, along with loading and unloading problems are an inevitable risk when using the sort of slot-loading drives found on the mini, iMacs and Mac laptops, but given the sheer number of these systems out there, it's not really a greatly common problem.
The business card twisted to stop the disc spinning is a good trick for those situations where the Mac doesn't recognise the disc because it forces the system into an eject, but in a situation where the disc is stuck in the drive due to fouling the casing, it doesn't help of course - hence the advice to try and guide the disc out. It must be said that sometimes the only solution is to remove the casing!
In the past, this issue has most commonly been caused by discs which are slightly thicker than standard, or a casing that has not been correctly refitted after opening the system up for something like a RAM upgrade.

  • DVD stuck in drive, will not recognize anything is inside

I am currently traveling through Mexico and Central America. While in Mexico my friend bought a bootlegged dvd (i know, no bueno) and one night I attempted to watch it in my macbook. It spun and did the bad dvd thing for a while then it stopped spinning and I haven't been able to get it out for a week. My computer almost acts as if it doesn't have a cd drive anymore. I tried rebooting with the eject button held down and then with the mouse button held down. I typed various commands into terminal and finally it said, unmount failed for disk1, and unable to find disk for disk 1. The drive is making no noises anymore but I still can't get the cd out. In the system profiler under disc burning it says no disc burning device is found. Please help me I don't know what to do anymore.

Yes, i tried drutil eject, usr/bin/drutil eject, and a couple others, i also tried all the suggestions from the link that chamar sent (thank you), except the one with the cardboard, but the disc is no longer spinning.
