Mini-DVI has simply stopped working. Any ideas?

I had been appily using the mini-DVI port to play content on TV, using the DVI to Video adapter : plugging and unplugging probably twice a week.
Now it seems to have stopped: no signal at all is reaching the TV. Tears everywhere. (Adapter still works fine on my MacBook.)What are the chances of wear and tear damaging the DVI port? Is this a complicated fix? Any other thoughts? No recent upgrades or updates. "About this Mac" reckons it's mirroring fine, so it feels like a hardware thing. Many thanks in advance.

does your Mac have ADC + DVI ports on rear or 2 DVI ports, if your Mac is a G5 towe? if so you'll need to get the appropriate adapters--either ADC> DVI or VGA + DVI or VGA cable & DVI > DVI or VGA cable, depending on the inputs on your LG monitors & what you may want to use. connect both displays, turn on. one should appear as main display(menu bar & dock). go to System Prefs>Displays>Detect Displays>Gather Windows. set rez on 2nd display, turn Mirror Off if you don't want/need it.
if your Mac is an iMac G5 same applies as to how, but you'll need to use a MiniVGA>VGA adapter to connect your 2nd display.

Use another browser to install Safari again.
You can download Firefox for the Mac, place the download on a USB thumb drive stick it into the Mac and copy it, run the installer.
Once FF is on, download a new copy of Safari from Apple's site.

After I upgraded OS lion to Mavericks, in app store I had some new updates, then after a system update, which require restart, then App Store, stopped working, any one can tell me what should I do to fix this problem?

Guys just contact apple support team . They will guide you well and your problem will most probably be resolved. I contacted them and following their instructions my mac is working totally fine again. If at all the problem persist the re-install mavericks by following steps
1). Switch of mac
2). Hold option/alt key and then switch it on.
3). Then choose your language and continue.
4). Now Re-Install OS X .
5). It will start downloading and installing.
6). Leave it idle for the required amount of time.
7). It will restart automatically and your problem will be definitely resolved.
Note:
a. If there is any problem of connection follow the same steps and the downloading will start where it stopped.

My mini DVI port suddenly stopped working! :(

Hi! I hope everyone is doing well. I bought a mini DVI port to connect my macbook pro to the projector. It was working perfectly until yesterday, it suddenly stopped. I mean the laptop won't show on the projector. when I play around with the port and the cord and move them, they show a blue screen like the one that appears when the laptop detects a projector but NOTHING happens then. The laptop normal screen comes agian! I know that there is a problem maybe with the cord or the laptop mini DVI slot! How can I know where the problem is? I don't wanna buy a new port then the problem appears to be from the laptop.

They tested it with their cable and mine. First off, they connected an external screen to the mini port. With their cable and mine, they could not get the "detect display" to see the screen.
Then they rebooted the machine from an external drive/os and it immediately recognised the external screen.
So the diagnosis was that it was a software thing. I asked them if they could refresh the drivers or clear the settings but they were pretty unhelpful - did not want to go there. Basically they said rebuild the OS from the ground.
I find this somewhat frustrating as surely there is some soft settings that can be done without rebuilding. Are there any "preferences" or similar types of things that I can delete out of the library file.....? (I am not a Mac tech guy - I am a user.....).

My sound jack does not turn red. I tried the toothpick thing, gently plugging in and out my headphones and nothing. Reseted my computer, turned off my computer (left it off for over a day) while I unplugged everything. No sound comes out when I turn it on (no chime at the start), and my on keyboard keys on controlling the sound dont solve the problem. Any ideas and help on this issue?

I can't seem to get the sleep function to work on my iPod. When I click on 60 minutes, nothing happens and the iPod never turns off. Does anyone know how this works?

Besides making sure the hold switch is off etc... has it worked before? If so, did you have it plugged in usb and headphones? Have you changed what is plugged in? If it worked and you changed nothing then try a simple reset first..then go to those 5 R's

I just got this resolved.
Go to www.macfixit.com and scroll down a little bit and you will see an article about any problems with updating to 10.4.4.
You will have to redownload the combo updated for 10.4.4 and reinstall it.
I did this and Spotlight is working fine now

I get 5 bars but still need a MicroCell (which stopped working), any ideas?

OK, I get 5 bars without the Micro Cell BUT only about 20% of my incoming calls get through (the rest go straight to VM). Outgoing calls seem to be OK, but text messages will take about 10 minutes to come in. Obviously this is unacceptable so we decided to purchase a MicroCell a couple weeks ago and it started off working great. As soon as we were in our office all our iPhones would show "AT&T M-Cell" and incoming/outgoing/text all worked as you would hope.
All of a sudden (around the time of the iPhone 4.0.1 update) the phones in my office would not connect to the MicroCell. All the appropriate microcell lights are on (3G, GPS, Power and Ethernet). I turned the unit off/on, went to ATT.com/3gmicrocell and tried disconnecting the device and then re-registered it all to no avail.
The only way I can get the phones to utilize the MicroCell is by turning the phone off for a minute then turning it back on (or putting them into airplane mode for a minute and then taking them out again). I have to do this while 2 feet away from the Micro Cell otherwise it just jumps on the tower (which says 5 bars but doesnt work). If I leave the immediate area of the microcell and come back the phone will not connect again.

Here are some things my research turned up:
1 depress home button on one side, place a thin bristled tooth brush underneath if possible and move it around
2 put a tiny drop of alcohol on the edge of the button. Using a rubber push the button and work the alcohol underneath. . Then press home button repeatedly. I wouldnt recommend doing that but if u r desperate...

Itunes has always worked fine on my HP laptop running Vista. With no changes in configuration or software, Itunes has suddenly stopped working any time an Ipod, Nano, or Shuffle is attached. I have tried to reinstall all software, restart computer, checked devices for updates. Have also tried solutions published on Apple support page. Nothing works. Itunes starts and works fine until a device is connected, but then I get the message that the program has stopped working and needs to close. Occasionally the whole system crashes and I get a "blue screen" error.

I, too, am having a problem with my Yahoo email account on my first generation IPad. I can't download my emails to my IPad from the server. The IPad looks like it's trying to download them but can't do it. I am able to send emails from my IPad with my Yahoo account.
This problem started yesterday, Aug., 25th, the day after I uploaded the last update from Apple. I am able to set up another email account through Sbcglobal that will download my emails to my IPad but it is not sync'ed with my desktop mail which creates a mess when I move or delete emails.
I've tried deleting my Yahoo account and then adding it back. Also I've reset my IPad and I've done a full restore.
I think it has something to do with the last update, which I believe was a security update, which may have reset the firewall. That's just a guess.
Has anyone figures out anything else?

I receive Adobe updates on a regular basis without any problems. The other day, my Adobe Photoshop Elements 7.0 (Editor) function has suddenly stopped working. Windows cannot seem to solve the problem. I can open all the other function buttons without any problems just not the most important one which is the Editor Function. Has anyone experienced this situation and knows what to do?
