Mini DVI video adapter doesn't plug into MacBook
I purchased a Mini DVI video adapter at the time that I purchased my MacBook in late 2007. I planned to use it later to connect to a larger monitor. I also purchase a MacBook for my wife in late 2008. I recently realized that this Mini DVI video adapter will not plug into the display plugin on either MacBook. I searched, but cannot find any video adapter that will actually plug in to either MacBook.

Mini DVI - Video Adapter, Not Working?
I would like to use my standard definition television as an external display for my Macbook (late 2008 model running OS X 10.6.6), so I purchased a mini DVI-video adapter. I connected the adapter to my Macbook, then an S-video cable to the adapter, and then the S-video cable to my TV. Doing this makes the Macbook screen fade to blue then back to the regular screen, however the TV seems to not even register for it continues to show nothing. In my display settings there is a button for detecting external monitors, though when pushed nothing happens.
I have tried to change the screen resolution and nothing happens. Also I have substituted a composite cable for the s-video cable and nothing seems to happen.
CAN SOMEONE HERE PLEASE HELP ME SOLVE THIS ISSUE, OR ADVISE ME ON WHAT I SHOULD DO NEXT?Are you sure the adapter is compatible with your MB? There is a list here that should tell you if it will work or not.

Screen changes on mini DVI - Video adapter plug in

When I plug in my mini DVI to video adapter into my MBA the font size increases and any windows that i have open are increased in size and float off the screen. its really annoying when this happens and the only way I can make the window smaller is by holding opt-then clicking the green window button. The font/borders remain larger in size, is there a way to correct this?
fyi- the dock and apple menu bar remain in the screen parameters but have larger font.I poked around where you pointed me to and the mirroring is fine. When I use the adapter it set the resolution way low so I had to bump it up manually thru the display preferences. Dont know why it was so low because it had this same effect when I just plugged the adapter in and left the s-video cable to the tv unplugged. whatever.

IMac CD with mini-DVI - Video adapter woes
I bought a mini-DVI to video adapter when I first got my iMac Core Duo. I never used it, and so a few weeks ago I was distressed to find out that it didn't work. So I ordered another, assuming the cable was the problem. Nope -- this one has the same trouble.
The problem is that the display is distorted and "rolls" occasionally like the V-Hold is off. There are also two black "bumps" or places where there are waves in the display, one on each side of the TV's tube. The TV itself is a little 20" Orion -- not too new, but not too old either.
* The TV should be fine, since I've used it with a mini-VGA to Video adapter with my previous Mac, an iBook G4.
* The cables should be fine, because I've switched them all out and tried different ones.
* The adapter should be fine, since I ordered another cable and it displays the same thing.
* The computer should be fine, since I can output to an LCD monitor with my mini-DVI -> VGA just fine and dandy.
So does anyone have an idea of what the problem might be? I'm really perplexed, and I don't think I'm missing anything obvious. Like I said, I've used a couple of similar cables before without problems, my iMac is otherwise flawless, and so on.I reinstalled the OS to see if that solved the problem. It didn't.
I tried to get an appointment with an Apple Genius, but apparently the Concierge was experiencing a large amount of traffic and could not help me. I don't really understand if I'll be charged for calling tech support (I'm out of the 90-day period, but obviously not out of warranty), so I don't particularly want to drop any money for support on a computer that apparently arrived lacking a significant feature. Unless I'm greatly mistaken, that's also known as DOA... -
Please confirm use of mini DVI-Video (s-video) cable with Macbook

I have tried to use the Mini DVI-> Video cable with my new Macbook in order to be able to connect to my TV.
Unfortunately it doesnt work, I do get the resolution change when I plug in the cable but nothing on the TV. I went back to the local Apple center and they tested the cable on a Powerbook G4, it worked flawlessly. Then they tried a monitor on my Macbook's DVI port, it also worked.
But when trying the mini DVI to Video cable on the Macbook, no luck!
Can anybody please confirm they have used this cable and connected successfully to a TV?? Using either the s-video option or composite?

G5 DP2.0, Macbook Mac OS X (10.4.6)I can confirm that the s-video connection to a standard CRT TV using the mini-DVI video adapter does NOT work with my MacBook.
The display is detected, and when mirroring is enabled, the resolution on the MacBook display is adjusted, but the TV doesn't display the MacBook signal. Instead, I get a black screen or some random flickers of color. Following the instructions in the help files, I've adjusted the resolution down to its lowest level with no success.
My guess is that this is related to the fact that the integrated graphics relies on system RAM, and I am running my machine with the stock 512 Mb RAM it shipped with (2 GB are on their way).
On the off chance it would help, I even tried closing the display, in hopes that the memory savings from turning off the MacBook display would enable the TV signal, but no luck.

And the way I read that is you want video input (keyword you used was "capture"). Is that what you really want? If so adapters you are looking at is for video output, i.e., to send video from your computer to a display device (e.g., a TV or monitor). If you really want to video input (into your computer) then a simple cable isn't going to work. You need a pci card that handles such functionality. -
I've just hooked my 20" iMac display up to my Toshiba 37" HDTV using a mini dvi-HDMI adapter, and everything works well, EXCEPT for the green tinge (or hue) that is showing up. Everything else looks pretty good though..... The color that is on my iMac is still good, Its just green on the TV.
Anyone have suggestions or ideas?Try opening the Display System Preferences, then click on the Color options in the Display preferences window that appeared on the Toshiba display. Click on the Calibrate button and follow the instructions for creating a custom ColorSync profile that will hopefully solve the green tinge issue. The Apple Display Calibrator Assistant software that launches when you click on the calibrate button will walk you through the process.Assuming that the green tinge is minor and that you don't have a more serious cable or hardware issue, I am hopeful the results will be worth it.

I upgraded to mountain lion, now my mini dvi to hdmi doesn't work
I installed mountain lion and now my mini dvi to hdmi doesn't work. I did a disk permission repair, but that didn't help. Any suggestions?
My internet card will only work on 32bit,and it sounds like mountain lion only works on 64bit so that must be my problem. I think I will have to upgrade my internet or go back to lion.

I'm running V10.6.8 and the system is not recognizing the presence of a San Disc (SDHC) adapter that I plug into the left side of the keyboard. This always worked in the past. Whats changed? I can't upload my images to a folder.
Another item I'd found when getting an SD card for an older camera was the lack of backward support from the SD card if it was too new, while a newer camera can sometimes use an older SD card at a slower read-write speed. There are limits and ceilings on what kind of card works with old/new stuff.
So I ended up taking a nice SD card back to one store and had to settle on a 'walmart kinda dubious kingston two pack a cure' for the older Panasonic Lumix. Smaller capacity but seems to work OK for the era. I don't trust kingston with macs, but this 10 y/o Lumix seems to not care about that.
Hopefully you can obtain the correct cards, because some stores only sell parts for their inventory of cameras. And some adapters are limited too.
Depending on what I'm doing with the card and the camera it goes with, I attach the camera to the computer and not just the card in a reader. That way I can file items inside the camera SD card in a way the camera won't overwrite them. Later when I save everything from the card into an external hard disk drive, all my filed folders of images by date (I created in the SD) appear in order, in the later archive. Easier too, when I burn to DVD or CD media, to create yet another archive away from the computer or the camera.

Okay, here's an update: the DVI to ADC adapter does work with the Apple displays that I have tried, but it won't work with the Formac. I have tried multiple time to contact them, but to no avail... they don't even respond to threats of posting my opinion of them, which is this:
DON'T BUY ANYTHING FROM FORMAC! They make quality products, but their customer service is a big time joke! They won't take care of you. -
iTunes no longer recognizes my iPod nano 5th gen. When plugged into macbook usb it appears as my iPhone. Previously both devices had individual identities. Have reset iPod and turned macbook off/on.

Apple Mini-DVI to Video Adapter doesn't fit my aluminum iMac
I previously had a 17" white iMac (pre-Intel) machine, and about 6 months ago I bought the mini-DVI to video adapter so I could connect it to my television. Worked like a charm. But I recently bought a new aluminum iMac, and the adaptor doesn't fit into the mini-DVI port in the back of the machine. It appears the adaptor and port are both male ends.
Has the port changed on the aluminum iMacs? The product description for the adaptor on Apple's website says it works with iMac (Intel Core Duo). Isn't the aluminum iMac an Intel Core Duo? I can't figure out why it doesn't fit and which cable I'm supposed to be using instead.

Mini-DVI to S-Video Adapter doesn't work
Hi, I am using the Mini-DVI to S-Video adapter from apple to connect my macbook to the TV. But the only thing I get is a grey flickering picture on my TV. When I click on the monitor-button I can see that my macbook detects only a monitor (but not a TV) in addition to the macbook-LCD-display. I tried all different resolutions, but needless to say it doesn't work.
Can the adapter be broken, or is there a problem with the macbook?

If you connect the Mini-DVI to S-Video adapter, the monitor button on the menubar should show resolutions for Color LCD in one section and NTSC/PAL in the other.
A grey flickering picture is indicative of picking the wrong standard-PAL vs. NTSC. -
