Mini guide and little video preview window causing Black screen!!!

I now have the same issue. Pressing the B button used to give me a pip with the guide on screen at the same time as live TV in the lower right corner. Now when pressing B the small box with live TV appears in the corner but the guide goes black. Pressing B again, closes the small pip window and restores the guide - different from what it was doing before.

The quick fix is to restart the DVR box but as soon as you use the mini guide and then the litle preview window it happens all over again. It is happening on all 3 of my Arris XG1v1 boxes with updates  1.55.02 and 2.02p12s1. Are you guys seeing this also?  I hope this will be fixed soon as I use the preview window often.  Can a Comcast Tech look into this issue please. ThanksI was able to replicate the issue you have, but instead of having to reboot the box, I just pressed the "B" buton to exit out of small pic and my Guide returned to normal.  Takes some experimenting...

The EXACT same thing happened to me last night!  Rented a movie; it had barely started and then froze.  When I touch the video app icon, all I get is a blank, dimly lit screen.  None of the other videos I own will display either.  Was your problem ever resolved?

  • Video Format Total Solution: How to Convert and Edit Video on Windows/Mac

More and More video formats are coming out with different video encoders and it makes our spare time more and more colorful. However, it is not to say that there is no problems. Actually, different video formats make it difficult to share video with others, even your own camcorder and iPod. Is there an easy way to convert videos effectively. Yes, there is.
In this article, I will show you guys how to convert videos on windows and mac.
Part 1. How to Convert and Edit Videos on Windows
For Windows users, you need a Video Converter(http://www.aiseesoft.com/total-video-converter.html) to do that for you.
Here I use Aiseesoft Total Video Converter(http://www.aiseesoft.com/total-video-converter.html)
Step 1: Download and install Aiseesoft Total Video Converter
After you download it to your computer, double click it and it is really easy to install.
You just need to click “next” and it will complete it in seconds. It will automatically run after installation.
    http://www.aiseesoft.com/images/guide/total-video-converter/screen.jpg
    Step 2: Load Video
Click “Add File” to find the video that you want to convert and click “open”. It will be loaded automatically.
Step 3: Select the target to decode
In the “Profile” drop download list you can find your target according the usage of your output video, such as if you want to put the video on your iPod touch, you can select the “iPod” in the first list and “iPod touch 2 MPEG-4 640*480(*.mp4)” in the second list.
    Step 4: Set Advanced Parameters
After you select the right output profile, you can click “setting” button to set your advanced parameters. You can adjust video and audio settings separately. In video section, you can change “video encoder”, “resolution”, “frame rate”, “video bitrate”In audio section, you can change “audio encoder”, “sample rate”, “channel”, “audio bitrate”If you want to save this profile and settings and use it next time you can click “save as” button to give a name to it. And the next time you want to use it you can find it in the profile list named “user defined”.
    Step 5: Choose a Destination
To browse and find a output folder for your output files or just the default one.
Finally, Click “Convert” button to begin your conversion, here in the converting
interface you can choose “shut down the computer when conversion complete” or “open output folder when conversion complete” or you just do not choose neither one.
Tips: How to Edit the Output Video
This video converter is also a video editor, you can use it to edit your output video as follows:
    http://www.aiseesoft.com/images/guide/total-video-converter/effect.jpg
    1. Effect:
You are allowed to adjust the “Brightness”, “Contrast”, “Saturation” and you can choose the “deinterlacing” to make the video more enjoyable.
    2. Trim:
In “Trim” section you can pick up any part of the video to convert.
There are two ways to select the part of the video you want. One is set the start and end time in the box. The other one is to drag the start and end button in the processing bar.
    3. Crop:
This function allows you to choose a certain play area to convert. That means you can choose a part of the screen you like to convert. For example, you just like the tv in the middle of the screen, then you can drag the frame around the preview window to select the tv and the output preview will show you the output video. In this section you can also choose the “zoom mode”, such as “keep original”, “full screen”, “16:9”, “4:3”.
    4. Watermark
In the section, you can add a watermark on the output video to show people something, such as your name, website, studio name or other things. The watermark could be words and picture. You can adjust the transparent of the watermark easily to make it more beautiful.
Part 2. How to Convert Video on Mac
This time you need a Video Converter for Mac(http://www.aiseesoft.com/video-converter-for-mac.html)
    Step 1: Add File
Click “Add File” button to load the video you want to converter
    http://www.aiseesoft.com/images/guide/mac-video-converter/steps.jpg
Step 2: Choose profile and adjust settings
You can find your output video format from a drop-list called “Profile”You can also adjust the specific settings of the output video, such as “Resolution”, “Bitrate”, “Encoder” and so on.

  • Multicam : my 2 angles preview windows are black

I try to make a multicam with 2 different footages and even I converted both in FCPX, when I make a multicam my 2 angles preview windows remain Black   When I click on both black windows to make my multicam final footage, it's working, I mean the Multicam footage is working well (but I have to do it in blind mode).
    I'm 10.0.7 and my Imac is a mid2010 corei7 + 16Go so everything is usually working well...
FYI I tried with several different footages (GoPro, 5DMKII, etc) and it's the same.
I chose automatic settings for the TL and for the multicam.

When I open FF there is no text displaying(menus, content, etc.), and most of the window is blacked out. For example... I can see the the firefox button on the top left corner, when I go to it the drop down list drops and there is no text, if I move down the drop down I hit where there is a slide out in that drop down and no text is there. So, to start in safe mode you need to go to the firefox button, and click on start in safe mode. I can't See safe mode or click on anything were safe mode should be.

hello, close all firefox windows & hold the shift-key while opening firefox in order to launch it in safemode. in the first dialog just choose "continue in safemode" and go to firefox > options > advanced > general. in there disable hardware acceleration, restart firefox normally again and see if this has changed anything.

  • IMac, update causing black screen and randomly powers off...?

I've seen many comment on this with few solutions.  It had never occurred until yesterday afternoon after the latest security update for Mavericks, 2014-005 v.1, was loaded and the system was rebooted.  After that moment the mac has been unusable.  It will start and after user log on, will black screen, sometimes still running and other times instantly powered off.  I have followed resetting the PRAM, and SMC procedures with no change and have booted into safe mode in order to examine the system and it is just as unstable there.  The times I have gotten it booted and running, attempting to access an earlier Time Machine backup, but before I can start reload it goes black.  The same goes while trying to check the sleep mode and security settings.  Unless this is an amazing coincidence, I believe the latest update has caused this problem and has for others as I have seen on many conversations.  Can this be uninstalled or does the drive need to get wiped and then reload from the Time Machine?
    Thanks.

Well, initial call into Apple Care and one answer.  "We have no idea what it is, we can get you an appointment at a Genius Bar in 4 days!"  4 days?!  Seriously?  At least they were kind enough to only put me on hold for 30 minutes, AND then transferred me to a "Sr. Care Specialist" who basically blew smoke up my arse only to tell me the same thing... why transfer me at all?

  • Windows 7  Black Screen solution found, needs to be verified.

    Hi all,
I've seem to have found a way to get Windows 7 64Bit working and more or less avoid the black screen that bugs the **** out of iMac 27" owners.
This method will probably work on any version of Windows 7 32 and 64-Bit.
This is tested with an Windows 7 64-Bit Ultimate OEM DVD with authentic license.
*1. Installation of Windows 7 with information found in support article TS3173.*
Follow instructions from Apple's support article TS3173
    Found here: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3173
NOTE! Apple states that if it remains black after several minutes you need to power it off, don't.
You need to wait until the machine goes into sleep mode, around 15-20Min!
Eg. don't touch mouse or keyboard in this periode.
Yeah I know you just could enter repair mode from installation Windows 7 DVD and delete ATI drivers manually, but this method saves you the hassle.
Ofcource you need to check if the USB device etc, is correctly configured.
    --SNIP FROM TS3173--
If the screen remains black after several minutes, power it off (hold the power button for several seconds), then go back to step 6. Ensure that your USB device or SD card is formatted as Master Boot Record, FAT, and that AutoUnattend.xml and Drivers are on the root level of the directory.
    --SNIP FROM TS3173--
*2. Resume installation of Windows 7.*
20 Mins have now passed, touch the keyboard and the black screen should light up and show you the dialogue where you enter a username and computername.
2.1 Enter you product/serial key for Windows 7.
2.2 On dialogue for Windows update: Select the recommended settings for Windows update, top choice.
*NOTE! DO NOT! I REPEAT, DO NOT! INSTALL BOOT CAMP 3.0 or 3.1!*
I will however do some research how to get BOOT Camp 3.1 service running.
*3. After successful installation of Windows 7.*
Windows now install 2 updates security in the back ground, if you have put on recommended settings for Windows update as stated in 2.2.
*3.1 Changing the power save settings for Windows 7.*
The reason you need to do this is, that after the reboot/restart you soon are going to do will give you the black screen again, eg. you would wait around 20min or so again for the iMac to enter sleep mode so you In turn could get the screen to lit up again. As in step 1.
Now change the power save settings in the following way,
Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Power Options > Change Plan settings (Next to Balanced (Recommended)).
    Turn off display: 1min
    Put Computer to sleep: 3min
    Click >> Save Changes.
    Close all open Windows.
    Reboot/Restart.
*3.2 Startup times after power save changes.*
Now the iMac 27" screen should only stay black for around 5 min after restarts/reboots.
Eg. its the same as in Step 1. Don't touch keyboard and mouse wait for it to enter sleep mode, then touch keyboard and screen should light up.
    *4. Install sound card drivers.*
This section will explain how to install and get the sound card working properly with microphone and all.
*4.1 Download latest driver from Cirrus Logic.*
    Found here: http://www.cirrus.com/en/support/lic/lic3.html?uri=/en/pubs/software/CS4207WinVista_Win7_32-64-bit6-6001-1-21.zip
    Extract drivers to eg. C:\Drivers\Sound
    *4.2 Install the drivers.*
Press (Start) The MS Windows Logo down to the left.
Right click, Computer and select, Manage.
Select, *Device Manager* under System Tools
Select, *Sound, Video and game controllers*
Select the top card in list, *High Definition Audio Device*
Right click and select, *Update driver software*.
Now select, Browse my computer for driver software.
Click, Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer.
    Click, Have Disk...
Now Browse to where you extracted your driver and select cs420x and click Open.
Then Cirrus Logic CS4206A (AB 81) Should show up in the list under Model.
Select card in list and press Next.
    Close all windows.
    Reboot/Restart.
    *5. Its not perfect yet...*
Your startup time of Windows 7 should now be reduced to around 5. Min.
Eg. Follow step 3.2 each time you boot Windows 7.
*6. Install all Windows 7 updates , including the optional one for the Atheros Wireless card.*
NOTE! I will improve this step later.
Press (Start) The MS Windows Logo down to the left.
In search field, type Windows Update and Click on Windows Update that show on the top of the start menu.
    Click Check for updates.
Now Install all Important updates and the optional one for the Atheros wireless card. Should be around 24 updates in total.
    Reboot/Restart.
*7. Now Windows 7 should now boot properly each time without the 5 min wait.*
Now step 3.2 may apply again, but it shouldn't!
NOTE! You may need to reboot a second time after installation of Windows updates to get rid of step 3.2 waiting times.
I have now tested 4 times, rebooting/restarting Windows 7 and the screen light up every time immediately after boot, also after a session in OS X.
I will also see if there is a way to install Boot Camp 3.1 services without getting the black screen issue.
If people with an iMac 27" have the time install Windows 7, please verify if this works for you or not.
I will do more reboots and tests to see if it holds and I can change power save settings back to normal. But atm, its so far so good.

I've had the same problem, and sorted it using this:
Run the Boot Camp Assistant in OS X as normal and create a partition when asked, then insert your Windows 7 disc to reboot and begin the process proper.
Windows 7 requires the NTFS file system, so once in the installer just select your new partition (labelled BOOTCAMP), click on Drive options (Advanced) and choose to format it. Then select the newly formatted partition and continue.
Windows 7 will begin installing, and once it gets almost to the bottom of its checklist, it’ll try to reboot. Now, if you leave it here, you’ll get so far and see the black screen. Any further attempts to reboot will bring you to the same dead end.
Instead, restart and press a key to boot from the Windows 7 disc when prompted.
Rather than running the installation again, choose the little option at the bottom to Repair your computer. Decline any suggestions that pop up until you see a list of options with Command Prompt at the bottom. Choose that option.
At the Command Prompt, type DEL C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS\ATIKMDAG.SYS to delete the default ATI driver, then close the window and reboot.
This time, Windows should successfully initialise a more appropriate display driver, allowing you into the desktop. From here insert your OS X disc to install the relevant hardware drivers as you normally would, then run Windows update to clear up any leftovers.

You may have a faulty USB cable. Try another.
Make sure you are following the instructions in this procedure to the letter. Here they are, with emphasis on some easily overlooked requirements:
Disconnect the USB cable from the iPhone, but leave the other end of the cable connected to your computer's USB port.
Turn off the device: Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds until the red slider appears, then slide the slider. Wait for the device to turn off.If you cannot turn off the device using the slider, press and hold the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons at the same time. When the device turns off, release only the Sleep/Wake button.
Continue pressing and holding the Home button while you reconnect the USB cable to the device. The device should turn on.Note: If you see the "low battery" screen, let the device charge for at least ten minutes to ensure that the battery has some charge, and then start with step 2 again.
Continue holding the Home button until you see the "Connect to iTunes" screen. When this screen appears (iTunes icon and USB connector) release the Home button.
If necessary, open iTunes. You should see the "recovery mode" alert ("iTunes has detected a phone in recovery mode").
Use iTunes to restore the iPhone.
If you do not see the "Connect to iTunes" screen, try these steps again. If you see the "Connect to iTunes" screen but the device does not appear in iTunes, see this article and its related links.
Select the device in iTunes and choose "restore from backup".
If you still can't get it to work, you have done all you can and only Apple will be able to help.
