Mini help...do not disconnect

Help...I got a new Dell computer two weeks ago, transferred my iTunes over just fine, and everything was working well until Sunday. Suddenly, my computer won't shut-down or restart while my iPod is connected. Also, iTunes does not always open on the first try. When it does open, it will read and update my mini once...then if I remove the iPod and reconnect it, it flashes a "do not disconnect screen" and it will not update. ITunes says that it is updating my iPod, but the mini does not update, and the light does not come on. I have the latest versions of iTunes and updater (loaded last night 1/16/06). Apple Cust. Service said that my antivirus software was scanning my iPod and that it was considered in use. I use AOL 9.0 security, and they say this is not happening. I have looked at USB ports and tried to disconnect from there but get an error saying that Drive e: (my iPod) is in use and can not disconnect. I have tried three different USB ports, and two different wires as well as a connecting dock. Any thoughts?

the same exact things has happened to me! i plug it in, i it recognised, and "updated." but i look at my nini and it still says "do not disconnect." so i disconnect it anyways, and none of my new music is on there. i even left it there for a while with that message on the screen, and came back hours later and it was the same. is it broken? and if i have a warranty on it still, can i upgrade to a nano for some money (i forget how much)? somebody please answer this question!

  • URGENT HELP - DO NOT DISCONNECT!!

    Hi all.
I've read the backposts on this and tried, but its not helped.
Just plugged my iPod in to update and it came up with the usual "do not disconnect" sign on the iPod, however iTunes did not recognise that the iPod had been plugged in.
Went through the menus to see if I could figure how to do it manually (couldn't), so just thought I'd try removing the iPod and see what happened, and its still sitting with the do not disconnect like it thinks its plugged in. This has been for almost 30 mins now and I'm worried its going to sit like that all night.
It doesn't respond to shutting it off or the menu keys etc etc and although its now not even plugged in its sitting like it thinks it is.
    Any help??

You have 2 options, if you can't get the iPod to eject from iTunes. The first is the Windows "safely remove" hardware button which is at the bottom right of your desktop, the other is to simply shut down the computer. Please do not disconnect the iPod from your computer while the "do not disconnect" is flashing. You may be a high risk of disk damage on the iPod.

  • My 1st gen. mini says 'do not disconnect', but nothing changes

as i said in the subject, i have an iPod Mini first generation. Since 3 weeks i have some problems with putting new songs on it. when i connect the iPod, everythings ok. my computer (Windows XP) recognises the iPod, and iTunes gets started. the ipod says 'do not disconnect' as usual, but songs aren't transported to the ipod, or songs i removed from iTunes dont leave the iPod. after a while the 'do not disconnect' goes away, so it should be updated. also itunes says that my ipod is up to date. can somebody please help me?

  • Ipod mini flashes Do Not Disconnect forever

It will work when disconnected, but when you attach to computer it just flashes do not disconnect. I've reset it, I've restored it so there's nothing even on it, but plug it is and that's what it will say until you just take it off anyway. The computer says it's updated - Please help!

If you have your iPod set to automatically sync with iTunes, right click on the iPod in iTunes, select options and if you have a check mark in the box marked “enable disk use”, remove it and your iPod should automatically disconnect after it’s finished transferring music.

    “Firmware Update Failure” Possible Solution
    -- Disconnect the iPod
-- Right click on "My Computer"
    -- Select "Manage"
    -- Select "Device Manager"
-- Expand "Universal Serial Bus controllers"
-- Right click on "Enhanced PCI to USB Host controller"
    -- Click on "Disable"
-- Click "OK" to accept changes
Run the Updater software (Start==>Run==>iPod) and wait till it says to "Plug in an iPod to update it"
Plug in the iPod and wait (for a long while). It takes awhile because you are now running at USB 1.1 speeds. When it finally shows up, do the "update" or "restore", which ever you were trying to do.
You can try to re-enable the "Enhanced PCI TO USB Host controller" after you are done running the Updater software and try to copy your songs and pictures to the iPod. This may or may not work. If not, revert back to USB1.1.

  • Help with the DO NOT DISCONNECT frozen

I had just buy my ipod and I disconnected it by mistake while the sign DO NOT DISCONNECT was flashing. Now when I plug it it doesn't do anything. The Do not disconnect sign is frozen there and I can't reset it. Did I brake it? Is there anything I can do? Thansk you for helping me.
    Elisabeth

    First, try "resetting" the iPod.
For mine, that means turning Hold on then off, then holding down Menu and Centre buttons together for 6 seconds.
You should then be able to disconnect it.

  • IPod Mini won't play downloaded songs/Do Not Disconnect

Recently, my ipod mini has been having some problems. If I leave my ipod mini idle for 2 days and the apple symbol appears when I turn it on, all the songs that ive downloaded from itunes wont play. When i attempt to play a downloaded song,it will boot me back to the main menu of the ipod mini. To fix this problem, i have to plug my ipod mini into the computer and then it will play downloaded songs again-until i leave it idle for 2 days. Also, when i plug my ipod mini into my computer, the do not disconnect screen on my ipod wont go away even after it says that the itunes update is complete on itunes. I end up having to disconnect the ipod when im not suppossed to. I have a feeling that these 2 problems are linked, and its becoming really annoying to have to plug my ipod mini into the computer in order to play downloaded songs because i dont listen to my ipod mini every day. If anyone can help me with this problem i would GREATLY appreciate it. Thanks- VRico

ok, this is a popular problem, i think the solution is before you download each song, listen to the full thing first, i think thats the solution! give it a try.

  • Help: ipod won't connect, display screen reads do not disconnect

my ipod doesn't show up in iTunes and I've already uninstalled and reinstalled four times. When I connect it, it keeps saying "do not disconnect" and and the battery even looks low now when it was recharged not too long ago. Sometimes I could see it in the Windows My Computer when I tried to reinstall several times, but right now I can't. I cannot sync the songs I want since it doesn't show up in iTunes...
It used to work fine on this computer but recently my sister plugged her iShuffle into my computer to get access to the songs I have. Now when I plug in my ipod mini, it doesn't show up and I can't sync more songs.
Twice after I reinstalled iTunes, it showed up and then acted as if it was copying the songs, but when it finished, nothing was there...
Another time it froze on me,but now it is unfrozen.
I currently have nothing on my ipod.. not even my old songs
I've already tried all the options in the help section relating to this topic, but nothing works...
    Please help!
    Thanks

If you don't have iTunes installed, it will just sit there saying do not disconnect. Is the little charging lightning bolt on the upper corner or does it eventually change to a plug symbol? If so, it is charging fine. Now all you have to do is manually eject it from the Windows environment.
In the future, if you configure the iPod to Enable Disk Mode, it will show up as a disk drive on the computer and you can eject it as such. Right now, you should still be able to find the device on the system and eject it.

  • Ipod mini stuck in "do not disconnect mode"

I had my ipod mini plugged in and downloading music onto it...it was working fine, when I was done I ejected it off the computer so I could disconnect it...it ejected off my desktop but then the screen that says "do not disconnect" would not go off my ipod screen then my computer froze so I restarted it and unplugged the ipod, now the ipod is frozen on that screen, I tried restarting it and that didn't work, I tried plugging it back into the computer and it won't show up on my computer or my sisters computer and the screen won't change....any suggestions??

If you are sure resetting it doesn't help (and it might take many attempts), then look here.
iPod doesn't appear in iTunes or on the Mac desktop.

  • IPod say's "Do Not Disconnect" but still not recognized. Please help!!

    Hi everyone.
    Ok here's my situation.
Im using a MacBook Pro (Mac OS X Lion 10.7.5)
    iTunes 11.4 (64Bit)
    iPod 4th Gen. (White 20GB 'Click-Wheel')
After doing a system restore on my ancient dinosaur ipod 4th gen. (the white 20GB 'Click Wheel') and 'upgrading' to iTunes 11 i've had nothing but problems.
So now when i plug in my ipod it charges fine and even say's "Do Not Disconnect" *BUT* there is no 'on my ipod' button. I cant see my playlists, add songs, delete songs or anything! I just want to 'DOWNGRADE' my itunes and have everything how it was before. I find this to be a science project in itself and no amount of searching youtube videos gave me a clear answer, it only made me more afraid and confused of going forward with this.
I tried downloading 'sharepod' for MacBook Pro but this is pointless because it needs itunes to recognize the ipod for it to recognize the ipod. Ehh.
I did a 'system restore' on the ipod but when i went home where all my music is (on a windows PC) it said i have to do the restore again because it was restored on a MAC. So i did the restore again on my Windows PC (put all my music on it) and now i want to add songs from my MACBOOK Pro and its not even recognizing my ipod. Arrrgh the frustration i tell you!
Im done doing the system restore and i just want to add playlists now. Why is this soo difficult? Someone please help a newbie out. Im great with computers and feel like i honestly should have never upgraded the itunes in the first place because i feel this is what is causing my problem. I've heard the older gen. ipods dont work as well with the newer versions of itunes although im not sure if there is any truth to that or is it just rumors. Either way can somebody please take me on a step by step of what to do next? Please with a cherry on top?

    Did you restart the Mac?
Did you reset the iPod using the two button combo?
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1320
If the above do not work, try putting the iPod into disk mode, and then connecting it to the Mac.

  • Ipod flashes "do not disconnect", not recognized in itunes source - Help!

*laptop showed update was completed but DND message still flashes on ipod. I decided to check if everything else was working.
    3. downloaded a song and when it was done i checked my itune page and library...song wasn't there.
    4. i clicked file, add file to the library, browsed and found the song in documents/music/itunes.
    5. clicked open then updated the ipod.
*update completed, DND shows on ipod, clicked eject, took out the cable.
    6. menu showed on screen, all other songs were there expect for the last one i tried to transfer.

  • Please help--Ipod says DO NOT DISCONNECT and I cant stop it-

I wish there wasd someone I could talk to to walk me thru this.I was updating software, connected ipod and now the update is frozen, and I can't disconnect ipod. Help - I don't know what to do.

    Follow Michael's advice.
The iPod will always show "do not disconnect" when attached to your PC because there is an active connection there. Think of it as being on the phone, if you pull the plug it will mess up the conversation.
On the bottom right by your clock you should have a little green arrow. That shows you what USB devices are hooked into your pc. As long as you do not have the iTunes software open, you can double click that icon and it will show you a small grey window. You will a choice that says "USB Mass Storage Device". Click it once to highlight it and then click the "stop" button on the bottom of the same window. You will get a pop up balloon telling you that it is ok to remove the device (your iPod).
If you have iTunes turned on, you will need to "eject" the iPod by either choosing eject from the file menu or right clicking on your iPod icon in the playlist (left side) of the iTunes software. There is an option in there called "eject iPod" which means that you are done moving files over and that iTunes can release the Ipod and you can use it.
If you don't have iTunes open, just follow the first step. Don't plug things in during the middle of an operation as that will cause lock ups.
Also depending on if you have USB 2.0 or not, the process of moving files and updating can be much slower so try to be patient.
    Hope this helps...
