Mini hooked to a tv.. oops with resolution

I hooked my mini to my tv using the dvi to video adapter available on apple.com... I used the svideo output and everything seemed to be fine.. I think I was getting 800 x 600 not the best.. but workable form where I was sitting..
I tried to see what would happen if I increased the resolution and the display freaked.. I believe I tried to up it to 1024xsomething.. not sure to be honest.. but i do remember the refresh rate was 85 hz..
The monitor freaked out and now the picture continually scrolls and is basically in greyscale.. I cant see clear enough to switch the monitor setting back.. I tried to unplug and re plug figuring the computer would go back to the native resolution.. but that didnt work... Tried plugging it into another monitor(which worked fine) then back to the tv but that didnt do anything..
Any ideas on how to do reset it back to 800 x600??

If that doesn't work;
- Boot into safe mode and change the resolution.

If none of the above recover the situation, try deleting a file called com.apple.windowserver.plist in /Library/Preferences. This should be your last resort. Make sure your hard disk is backed up first.

Photoshop CS4 Extended, issues with resolution and font sizes on Mac

I have Photoshop CS4 Extended, which worked fine on my old 15 inch Macbook Pro, I think it was 2011 and had high definition display.
I now have a new 15 inch 'late 2013' Macbook Pro with retina display (2880 x 1800), and OS 10.9.4
I have 2 problems:
1) Using photoshop now, the resolution is a lot worse than with my old computer, even though my screen is higher resolution.
For example, the images themselves are worse resolution on my display, far less crisp and more pixelated than any of my other programs. And even the windows such as 'save as...' screens are terribly pixelated also. Is there a way to fix this?
2) When using the type tool, I cannot find how to change the size of the font. There used to be numbers which I could change, and also select the font type, both on the top menu bar always visible. Now there is not anymore. What there is there at the top, is what looks to be a bar on top of another bar. The top layer bar is on the left and reaches about one third of the way across the top, and I can drag it by its corner so it can extend more, but not less. It looks like there are things behind it which I cannot see, because it is over the top of them. Perhaps the text size and font options are stuck behind that. What can I do?

Hi JJMack, you said "Seems like you want a low resolution display hook and external display to it." I do not know what that means. I did a google search for "low resolution display hook" and it came up with zero results. Also I do not have an external display, only my laptop.
Does anyone know what I can do to fix this issue? I would greatly appreciate any solution.

Mini DVI to VGA incorrectly shipped with MBP instead of DVI to VGA

Has anyone else had a mini DVI to VGA adapter shipped with their macbook pro (2008) instead of a DVI to VGA adapter? I just needed to use it today and was told at the apple store that I had an adapter included with the computer. I went home to check and the adapter that was with the computer was a mini DVI to VGA adapter and the computer has a regular DVI output. I understand that later in 2008 the mac book pros were made with the mini DVI so I am thinking that there may have been a packaging error.......unusual for Apple???

Most likely an error when the machine was packaged for distribution. The MacBook Pro has never shipped with Mini DVI, it was a dual link DVI port until they went to Mini DisplayPort. The MacBook, however featured the Mini DVI.
I know Apple has ceased to ship the adapters with the MacBook Pro, to my knowledge they did around the time of the mid/late 2008 machines. I know with the first couple of generations (MBP) you actually got both a DVI and VGA adapter.
I'd contact Apple, inform of the discrepancy and I'm sure they'll make it right.

Desktop/Finder keeps rebooting after upgraded to Maverick (mac mini hooked up to a home theater system)

My desktop keeps rebooting ever since I upgraded to Mavericks.
Current setup, Mac Mini hooked up to home theater (Panasonic SC-HTB20) that is then hooked up to my Panasonic Plasma TV.
I usually leave my Mac Mini on running and at least once a day when I turn on the TV I can see that my desktop was rebooted. Firefox and Chrome will say that it wasn't shut down properly and if I want to restore my previous session. Also some times when I switched the input to watch TV and switch back, all my windows will be scattered out of place. For example Chrome will be in the top left hand corner to the point that it's almost minimized and I wouldn't be able to move it as well. Only thing I can do is close out these applications and relaunch them. It doesn't appear that the OS actually crashed, but more like the desktop/finder itself crashed. Cause once in a while I will switch back or turn on the TV and the screen will stay black for a few minutes then I'll see the cursor in the top right hand corner. After that I will start to see the desktop and my application start loading. It doesn't go through the regular process of rebooting where you see the Apple logo so I don't think the OS actually crashed but I could be wrong.
For some reason it seems like Maverick doesn't like the home theater system. An almost guarantee way to reproduce the issue is to wait for the home theater to turn off after it's been inactive for a while. If I turn it on the home theater to have the audio coming from it I will see the desktop goes black immediately then the whole desktop reboot process I mentioned above will kick in.
Never had any of these issues on 10.7 before I upgraded to Maverick.
Anybody have any suggestion? I really don't want to format and downgrade back to 10.7.

Sounds like a kernel panic.
If you post the report we could have a go at deciphering it.
It would be in /Library/Logs/Diagnostic Reports.

It's a VGA adapter. Nothing special about that. If your Samsung monitor supports VGA then it will work.
But why not go completely digital and use a Mini DisplayPort to HDMI adapter to skip the analog conversion? It also supports passing audio over HDMI.

I have just brought a Dell P2211H monitor, which supports 1920x1080 native resolution, but when I connect it to my MacBook 13" using the mini displayport to VGA adapter the maximum resolution I can choose is 1360x768, how can I force a 1920x1080 resolution?

Are you in Mirrored Mode or Extended Mode? In order to get that kind of resolution, you need to be in Extended Mode by going to Display Preferences and unclicking Mirrored.

For sound, try the audio output port and connecting to the RCA audio input ports on your Pioneer receiver. Use something like this:

I'm not understanding what you're wanting. You don't sync ipad to iPad. You can sync both devices to the same iTunes account or same computer.
And you can choose the content on each device. I have an iPod and iPad and maintain separate content on each one.

Portege R700 - Issues with video playback with resolution over 360p

I've got this video playback issue from day one. While for instance on YouTube, videos with resolution above 360p freeze up while the sound is ok.
I've contacted Toshiba through which I got a linke to the latest bios and drivers. After the upgrade issue persists. I sometimes get a green screen while watching flash video as well. I'm guessing this is a graphic card hardware issue. Any ideas? Thanks! (Portege R700 19L, win7 pro 64)

Mac mini late 2012 wakes up unexpectedly with password field filling by itself

I just upgraded from OS X Mavericks 10.9.5 to OS X Yosemite 10.10.1 and have difficulty keeping my computer asleep. I always put it to sleep using the drop down menu.
Symptoms are:
1. Power light on Mac mini does not always pulsate from dim to bright when asleep. It is often constantly lit.
2. Mac mini wakes up without user intervention with password field filling itself in as if someone is typing it.
Attached peripherals:
Apple Magic Mouse (Bluetooth wireless)
Apple Keyboard with Numeric Keypad (USB)
Actions I have taken to remedy the situation:
* Turned Magic Mouse off using the power switch
* Turned off Wake for Network Access
* Turned off Sharing, deselecting every option
* Turned off Allow Bluetooth devices to wake this computer
This problem did not occur with OS X Mavericks.
Nothing is resting on the keyboard or mouse that could cause this.
Thank you for any suggestions and solutions. I appreciate any help.

I did the following:
1. Turned off Bluetooth and switched off Magic Mouse
2. Installed Logitech USB mouse
3. Put Mac mini to sleep
I thought that would solve it but it woke up from sleep again with this in the logs:

I'm perplexed but now we know it has nothing to do with the Magic Mouse.
I'm no expert but this worked fine under Mavericks.
Perhaps it is a keyboard driver that's a bit wonky under Yosemite while in sleep mode?
Maybe the OS can't communicate properly with the keyboard while asleep.
I have an idea to rule it out further:
I'll try unplugging the keyboard and use the Logitech USB mouse to put
it to sleep again.
I'll report back with any findings.
