Mini ipod hold button problem

I bought my sister a mini ipod. she is having problems with it now. whenever she turns off the mini ipod, puts it on hold, after a minute or less than a minute sometimes, the ipod just turns own even if it was already shut off and put on hod. Whenever this happens she can press the buttons and control the ipod even if it is on hold. how can i fix this for her?

It is likely a hardware issue, you need to send it for repair as I did.

  • Hold Button Problem

Wife dropped her Mini (again) resulting in the sad face and the sound of a broken hard drive. Bought a replacement HD and installed it. Maybe the drop broke the Hold Button, maybe I did when I put in the HD....in any event.... the mini works in the BOSE player but the 'lock' shows on the screen and I can't get it off hold. I tried a restore via ITunes to no avail. I can't reset since I can't get the hold button off to do that. I've taken the thing apart a couple of times, worked the Hold Button back and forth and nothing seems to work so...
Question - is there any way via software to disable the hold button?
Question - the hold button seems to be soldered to the board. I assume it's not worth trying to replace it, is it?
    Any suggestions would be appreciated.

You may have broken a connection between the top board that houses the jack and the slide to lock and unlock the iPod.... Try opening up the iPod again and make sure that it is securely seated into the logic board. The connection is only about 1/16th inch square and it can work loose during disassembly and reassembly (It is really the only thing to hold on to when sliding the board in and out of the case).
I hope this helps you out!

do i need a new ipod?
    iPod Video   Windows XP

First thing to do is reset the iPod and see if that doesn't clear it up...
To reset your 5th generation iPod with video:
    1. Toggle the Hold switch on and off. (Slide it to Hold, then turn it off again.)
    2. Press and hold the Menu and Select buttons until the Apple logo appears, about 6 to 10 seconds. You may need to repeat this step.
The above is Apple's instructions. I would add that you want to hold the two buttons a good long time like 15-20 seconds before declaring it a no-go. As it says above, sometimes if it doesn't reset the first try... try, try again.
If that doesn't work, then do a Restore on it. If after a Restore, it still is stuck on Hold, then you may have a hardware problem like a broken hold switch or the little sliding part slipped off the switch inside.

  • Ipod hold button not working

I sent my ipod to apple to get the battery replaced.
On receiving the ipod back i realised the hold button did not work and that the ipod was continuosly crashing when on the move and downloading songs from i tunes.
I contacted the support team thinking i could send it back under the 90 day gurantee (because it was apple who sent me the new ipod back), but because i purchased it 2004 they said I had to purchase some apple protection at £39.99, is this true?
Even though it was apple who sent me a brand new ipod back!!

Have you tried resetting or restoring the iPod?

  • IPod hold button broken(?)

My 2nd generation nano's hold button will not switch off. It is about three years old and the adhesive started detaching from the top button housing, where the hold button is.
After flicking the ipod on and off, and seeing no change, I decided to remove the top covering and expose the hold switch. I tried manually flicking the little red switch with a paper clip, nothing happened and it remained in the hold position.
The ipod is still working properly.

Almost assuredly the answer is yes.  Take it to an Apple store for replacement or contact them using the Contact Us link at the bottom of this page.

  • HP MINI 3535t Keyboar Button Problem.

    Hi,
I'm having HP Mini 3535t Netbook and undergoing with keyboard problem that some of my keyboard keys aren't working like backspace, prtscr, esc, and mute is there any way to make them working or just to replace my keyboard is the only solution.

I actually found that uninstalling the Alps driver and rebooting and letting Windows 7 detect it and use a default pointing device driver worked better. I had tap to click and virtical scrolling. So it might be a option if you are running Win7

the home buton on my ipod togh5 has stopped working even when its not 6 months since i bought it.
can it be repaired and how to contact apple regarding this?

How do I obtain service for my iPod?
The iPod support site has troubleshooting articles to help you solve your iPod issue. If you have reviewed those articles and still need service for your iPod, you can contact Apple. You can also take your iPod to your local Apple Authorized Service Provider. Note: There may be a fee for diagnostic service.

  • Hold button on iPod (touch wheel) 3rd gen problem

well my hold button on my 3rd gen ipod touch button has just stopped working so when you slide it nothing happens, which is a problem as it is all touch button so it keeps changing tracks and stuff without me pressing anything.
so i was wondering if anybody else has had a problem like this and if so how they had it fixed because calling up the apple support the fix was about £170! might aswell get a new one, so any help from anybody will be appreciated.

    Try:
    fix for Home button
Fix a broken, unresponsive or sticky iPhone Home Button
    - If you have iOS 5 and later you can turn on Assistive Touch it add the Home and other buttons to the iPods screen. Settings>General>Accessibility>Assistive Touch
    - If not under warranty Apple will exchange your iPod for a refurbished one for:
Apple - Support - iPod - Repair pricing
    - There are third-party places like the following that will repair the Home button. Google for more.

  • I have got a problem!!!!! Hold button not working

My ipod is the ipod phota and my problem is that my hold button seems to have stopped working. It will move side to side but it remains locked no matter which side it is on. It is like it is frozen with it on lock mode so I cant restart it. If any one can help that would be great.

I don't know for sure but it's my impression the Apple iPod's "iHold" switch is not a very robust design and is subject to failure. Apparently shortly after the warranty is over. If yours is still under warranty take it back to iStore, they will probably replace it. My daughters iPods' warranty just ran out... hold switch broke.... oh well, tough luck. The genius at the istore's genius bar (their terms, not mine) said I could probably find someone on line that could fix it.

  • Hold button turns iPod off...

I looked through the forum and found one person who had a similar problem to mine but their question wasn't answered.
My iPod has two main issues right now, after having gone through the 5 Rs. My computer and iTunes does recognize it but...
--The hold button when toggled instead turns the iPod off
--The click wheel (no matter how many times I refresh it) doesn't respond (except the Menu button)
Is there any hope for it or should I look into shipping it to an Apple Store?

Have you been through these? (I don't think there's anything else you can try)

Or you could take it into an Apple store and have them take a look at your iPod.

My mini ipod appears off and not respond to any commands when pressed the buttons to reset, apple logo appeared and then the apple support site and it shuts down. already tried all the steps, but none worked, and when I plug it into my computer it does not appear in the iTunes bar. what do I do?

If MacKeeper corrupted the Recovery partition then even I underestimated its potential for damage. Garbage "cleaning" apps will cause misery but I have not found that the Recovery partition to have been affected by using MacKeeper or anything like it. I doubt that it did so, but I have learned not to underestimate the potential for such things to result in system corruption.
Before concluding your Mac has a hardware failure, try booting OS X Internet Recovery by holding command option r on startup (three fingers). That will force your iMac to bypass the Recovery partition altogether, and convey the ability to create a new one.
An Internet connection will be required (wired or wireless).
At the Mac OS X Utilities screen, select Disk Utility. Select your startup volume (usually named "Macintosh HD") and click the Repair Disk button. Describe any errors it reports in red. If Disk Utility reports "The volume Macintosh HD appears to be OK" in green then you can be reasonably (though not completely) assured your hard disk is in good working order.
Assuming the HD remains usable you can then use Disk Utility to erase it. Reinstall OS X, restore your essential software and other files, and don't reinstall the junk.

  • Hold Button and Headphone Jack problems (not a question, DO NOT ANSWER)

I received an old iPod with color display when the hold button appeared to be locked. The previous owner gave it to me for free. I waited about 3 years and finally looked into actually opening and fixing it. It turns out that a small ribbon cable connects the headphone jack and hold switch to the motherboard. The cable simply came out of its jack on the motherboard. All that was needed to fix the problem was simply opening the iPod and reconnecting the cable. For information on how to open your iPod's case check this link:

The blue tool pictured is not necessary. A few flathead precision screwdrivers work perfectly. Try it and good luck!

    P.S.
The hold button was constantly locked and had no control.

If you successfully restored to factory settings/new iPod via iTunes (Not via Settings>General>Reset>Erase all Content and Setting) and still have the problem that indicates a hardware problem. Could be the screen or something else.
