Mini ipod skipping

The music on my mini ipod and on itunes keeps skipping every single song and then goes back to the beginning. I have uninstalled itunes, quicktime and the ipod software and downloaded all of the updated versions needed and it still isn't working.
Do I need to have my ipod serviced?
What could it be?
PLEASE HELP!!!!!!

If it says that the ipod cannot be mounted, restart your computer, place the ipod into disk mode (article #93651) while it is not attached to your computer. Then after your computer is booted back up plug the ipod in, then bring up the ipod updater program and attempt to restore the ipod again. This should work for you.
songs skip on the ipod because the ipod and itunes programs installed on the computer are not up to date. The newest itunes is 5.0 and the newest ipod is 2005-09-06. If this isn't what you are using you need to update your software.

also - be sure that you have service pack 2 downloaded and installed from the microsoft web site.

  • IPod Mini continually skips tracks all the time every half a second!

My iPod Mini continually skips tracks all the time every half a second. The only thing that stops it is if you press pause but once you press play off it goes again. This means noi music is able to be played because it's always skipping. The menu button works as does the backlight if you hold the menu button down. The enter button works and the touch pad navigation also works. Both skip buttons have no effect on the unstoppable skipping. Can anybody help or at least verify the problem with other users of simular problems and if they were able to fix them simply, without having to go to an Apple dealer (it's out of warrenty i think)Any help would be appreciated.

  • Ipod skips songs and / or freezes, won't play any song

Listening to my ipod I skipped to next track, but no sound came. Looking at display I noticed that the ipod had skipped about twenty tracks. Tried going back to track I wanted to play but ipod wouldn't play it - time display stuck at 0.00 for a few mins then skipped to next track, same problem. Went to completely different track - same problem.
Checked on itunes - all songs played fine, both those listed under my home hard drive, and those listed under the ipod's drive on itunes.
Resynched ipod - same problem - initially one or two songs would play, but when trying to play the specific track I first tried, it would skip through the next twenty or so tracks then stop playing anything.
Tried soft reset - same problem.
Tried restoring to factory settings - same problem.
Took to apple store genius bar - they made no attempt to work out what was going wrong, just replaced ipod as it was still under warranty. Got home and resynched all songs - same problem!
This suggests it is a problem with the song files, but I don't understand why they play fine on itunes. Also, the file type (mp3), bit rate, sample rate, file size, etc is exactly the same in both locations.
Have tried all troubleshooting tips on this site, and all software is latest version.
    Any ideas?

    Good night, Chris.
Well, it may have lots of reasons: changing files from original folders, uninstall/install codecs in other programs, errors on iTunes Sync service, deleted .dll's, viruses and etc...
To easier the work for you, you can do it in all your iTunes library or make a backup of your files and reinstall iTunes (enjoy to update it, if you haven't yet).
Try "consolidate files" also, it can avoid that iTunes search from the files in wrong places, and automatically organize your .mp3/.aac files.
In a last tool, try to change the iTunes import preferences.
Once you are in a high step level, give a glance on this things on:

and give a special look to this scripts:

  • 160 GB iPod skips when EQ is engaged.

I may have found a huge issue with the 160GB iPod classic.
Have an 160GB Classic in hand?
    1. Choose an upbeat song. Something fast.
    2. Play it.
    3. Then stop it.
    4. Then go into settings EQ and change it to Latin or Dance or something. (I've not tested with other settings.)
    5. Now go play the same track.
    Mine is skipping like crazy.
Turning off the EQ solves the issue 100% of the time.
Please let me know if I'm not the only one...

After further investigation with the EQ engaged I found:
    1. Simply navigating to a new track was producing skipping as well.
    2. Just listening to some tracks without the EQ on at all produced skipping.
The following temporarily cured my iPod of skipping:
Reset the iPod (Menu + Center Button)
My iPod had been running for 7 days without incident. After this short amount of use/time I can only theorize that there is a memory leak that causes the iPod's behavior to become erratic.
My iPod currently contains 17,000 tracks.

  • Ipod skips mp3 files

I recorded an audio book on tapes to wave files and then converted the wave files to mp3. I added these mp3 files
into Itunes but Ipod has trouble playing them. When I click on file Ipod skips to another file. I even converted
these file to AAC and same thing happens. What can I do?
HP Pavillion 120 gb   Windows XP

    1. suggest you use freeware Audacity to record to mp3 files to begin with -- much smaller than wav files and don't require a second conversion -- and split up into smaller files. Record at not too much more than the ultimate kbps rate you want. Suggest 32-48 kbps for audio spoken word files is adequate. Use line in from a stereo audio cassette player, etc (see guide below)
    2. Then, you are probably creating too-large files. The iLounge consensus used to be 5 hours/300mb max for satisfactory play, but now maybe 13.5 hours. have a look at this post:
    http://www.ipodlounge.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&postid=767618#post767618
    3. I think that if you use higher bit rates and sampling rates, you will approach the limit at shorter time length files. I would love to have a definitive answer on this.

  • IPod skipping on 3G iPhone

Is anyone else having problems with their ipod skipping on their 3G phone? Some time ago I saw a couple of similar posts and theirs, like mine, happened in the gym. It sounds like an old CD player skipping all around. The problem is, I only walk on the treadmill, so this could happen anywhere. Still, it should not happen even if you are running hard on a treadmill. Mine skips from a podcast to music and then to other music and then back to a different podcast, staying in one place for only a couple of seconds. Most days it works fine, but this is frustrating. Has anyone else encountered this?

I've never had this happen, but the manual suggests restart, reset for most issues:
"If something is not working right, restarting or resetting iPhone will likely solve the
    problem.
Restart iPhone: Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button until the red slider appears.
Slide your finger across the slider to turn off iPhone. To turn iPhone back on, press and
hold the Sleep/Wake until the Apple logo appears.
Reset iPhone: Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button at the
same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
For more troubleshooting suggestions, see Appendix A, “Troubleshooting,” on
    page 132."

  • How much does IPOD skip with movement?

Hi, I am hoping to get some feedback on this, I want to buy a regular IPOD (my Nano screen cracked). Apparently it is much more durable. But I never did buy one because I am afraid of it skipping.
Do the regular IPODS skip while running? (I run for an hour)
Would a regular IPOD skip while doing housework? (Vacuuming, cleaning bathtub eg: bending over etc) I do that for hours at a time.
Would it skip while on an elliptical training machine? I do it for an hour but it is not high impact.
Finally, the salesmen at the stroe where I bought my Nano said that with a regular IPD, I could keep it in my back pocket or purse without fear of breaking it. Is that true? Is is generally rugged? Can you sit down with it in your back pocket? If you drop it accidentally, say on pavement, would it be ok?
    thank you very much.

non-hard drive based iPods (video iPod, nano, shuffle) will not skip since there is no hard drive inside to worry about
all hard drive based iPods (mini, photo iPod, U2 iPod, etc) will skip is shaken semi violently
you DO NOT want to place any ipod (except the original ones) in a front or rear pants/slacks pocket since as soon as you sit down, there is alot of crease there and you will break some ipods, plus you never ever want to put one in your back pocket as you are just inviting trouble....
as for dropping it... well, it may it may not break - it depends on the height it is dropped from, the surface it hits, etc. under normal wear and tear, it should be fine, but.........

  • MINI IPOD FROZEN!

please please help, my mini ipod has frozen in between skipping songs..now it wont switch off or do anything! what can i do?

  • 2 brand new mini ipods, same problem!

Me and my brother each bought a mini ipod today, and we both have the same problem. the ipods are skipping parts of songs and getting stuck, like a cd player does when the cd is scratched. please help!

Mine had a similar problem after I plugged it into my computer's speakers to play. I sent it in for repair and they sent me a new one...still don't know what the problem was though.

  • Ipod skips only with songs purchased from ITunes

My Ipod skips with a handfull of songs that I purchased from ITunes. They play fine on my laptop, but my Ipod wont play the entire song. Some play for 2 minutes others play for 20 seconds. I can't get anywhere with help topics, and I went through the whole 3 R's list twice. HELP!! Thanks

Did you try carving a pentagram into the ground, filing it with gasoline, lighting it on fire, placing the ipod inside the pentagram, and then dancing around it naked while howling at the moon yet ?
I supose its possible that there were internet interuptions during the download of theese songs. Most computer soundcards have technology that eliminates skips by... skipiing the skips. If you have a problem like Goldwave (freeware), you can open the file and zoom in to look at the wav. If there are little holes, you can delete them and it will be seemless. This is something I have done in the past, but likely isn't your issue.
Sorry I cant offer a more definative answer.

  • Transfering music from mini ipod to a nano

i just bought the nano and would like to transfer my music form my mini ipod to the nano. i can only transfer 1/2 of my music. i'm also using a new computer to do this. why can't i get all my music?

Are you transferring these tracks back from your Mini
to iTunes and are the ones that transfer purchased
tracks? The transfer of non purchased content such
as songs imported from CD is designed by default to
be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there are a
number of third party utilities that you can use to
retrieve the music files and playlists from your
iPod. You'll find that they have varying degrees of
functionality and some will transfer movies, videos,
photos, podcasts and games as well. Have a look at
the web pages and documentation, this is just a small
selection of what's available, they are generally
quite straightforward. You can also read reviews of
some of them here: Wired News - Rescue Your Stranded

    TuneJack Windows Only
    iPod2PC
    Windows Only
    iGadget Windows Only
    iDump Windows Only
    YamiPod Mac and
    Windows Versions
    Music
    Rescue Mac & Windows
    iPod
    Copy Mac and Windows Versions
There is also a manual method of accessing the iPod's
hard drive and copying songs back to iTunes on
Windows or a Mac. The procedure is a bit involved and
won't recover playlists but if you're interested it's
available at this link: Two-way Street: Moving Music Off
    the iPod
My songs are currently on my mini and in itunes, but when i try to transfer them to my new nano, it will not work. The only songs it will transfer are the songs that I copied from cd's. I also have a new computer that I am using, does this have anything to do with it? If I use my old computer would it work. From you response, it sounds like there is a solution w/ the link that you provided. Correct? Thank you for your feedback.

My mini ipod appears off and not respond to any commands when pressed the buttons to reset, apple logo appeared and then the apple support site and it shuts down. already tried all the steps, but none worked, and when I plug it into my computer it does not appear in the iTunes bar. what do I do?

If MacKeeper corrupted the Recovery partition then even I underestimated its potential for damage. Garbage "cleaning" apps will cause misery but I have not found that the Recovery partition to have been affected by using MacKeeper or anything like it. I doubt that it did so, but I have learned not to underestimate the potential for such things to result in system corruption.
Before concluding your Mac has a hardware failure, try booting OS X Internet Recovery by holding command option r on startup (three fingers). That will force your iMac to bypass the Recovery partition altogether, and convey the ability to create a new one.
An Internet connection will be required (wired or wireless).
At the Mac OS X Utilities screen, select Disk Utility. Select your startup volume (usually named "Macintosh HD") and click the Repair Disk button. Describe any errors it reports in red. If Disk Utility reports "The volume Macintosh HD appears to be OK" in green then you can be reasonably (though not completely) assured your hard disk is in good working order.
Assuming the HD remains usable you can then use Disk Utility to erase it. Reinstall OS X, restore your essential software and other files, and don't reinstall the junk.

  • Music not appearing on mini ipod

I bought my mini ipod 2 weeks ago. I loaded one set of music on it fine, but now i've updated my itunes library and am trying to transfer the rest of the music to my mini ipod. When I connect my ipod to the computer(it's set on automatic, but I've tried manual too to no effect) it says its updating music (takes about 45 mins) The updated music is appearing under the ipod in itunes, but it doesn't appear on the actual ipod. I've tried resetting the ipod, restarting my computer, using different USB2 ports etc but nothing works. Can anyone please help?

    Try this;
Go to SETTINGS > MAIN MENU > MUSIC and set it to ON. Then, hit the MENU button several times to get back to the main menu & see if it's there.
You can control what appears in the main menu in this settings menu. Apparently, your ;music' option has been turned off.
    Cheers!
