Mini jack splitter

I bought a mini jack splitter, sold as a stereo splitter, my question is this, does this split the stereo from my ipod into a left and rightr mono 0or does it split the stereo output and give me two stereo outputs.
Peter

The most common one is the "split the stereo output and give me two stereo outputs".
It is very rare (but possible) to have a mini jack splitter with a left and right mono outputs - and it will show by L & R signs or Red and White colour jacks

  • Why do regular stereo mini jack headphones no longer work in macbook pro

I have a macbook pro (2009) v10.9.5, 2.53GHz Core 2 Duo. Lately normal non apple stereo mini jack headphones no longer work. The jack doesn't cut the speaker sound as normal. It wasn't like this until comparatively recently. Apple iphone headphones do work.. is this a software or hardware problem?

That is odd.  Try a NVRAM reset:

Not all the sound docks accept both analogue and optical on the auxillary input - I don't think the portable ones does but may be wrong - check the user manual.
As I said earlier all the mini optical (min Toslink) adapter does it make the optical connector fit a smaller socket, it does not convert digital audio to analogue for an analogue only auxillary input.

  • Use a mini jack-USB Converter to plug iRig Mic into the apple Camera Connection

My new recording studio is GarageBand on our NEW iPad -of course!   Ill be using the iRig Microphone but i wonder if it would be better to go thru the iPad's camera port as i would, the Apogee 'JAM'.  There are mini jack USB adaptors I could use for the iRig Mic ,as i have mentioned . Does it matter ? Would that be an un-needed expense?

Probably not. A 2011 software update significantly reduced the amount of power allocated to the USB, rendering many devices that used to plug in non-functional now. If there's no app then there's not likely to be a driver to allow the keyboard to work.
If your keyboard manufacturer has any sort of support board then you may want to look there and see if they have more info.

You can output audio thru HDMI, with appropriate adapter.
You can use additional cheap external usb audio for monitoring.

  • Apple Pro speakers with mini jack connect to new Intel iMac ?

I would like to be able to connect the pair of perspex globe Apple Pro Speakers with mini-jack that came with my PowerPC G4 Mac to my new Lion desktop Intel iMac.
However, the mini-jack is too small for either the ' audio in / optical digital audio in port ' or the ' headphone out / optical digital audio out port ' (I'm not sure which is the correct one to use !)
Is it possible with an adaptor, or by some other means, to connect them ?
If it is unfortunately not possible, any cheap alternative speakers recommended would be appreciated.

There are no adapters that are readily available to use the old Apple Pro speakers with other computers or newer Macs.
The only adapter that worked but has long been discontinued in the Griffin Technologies iFire.
These are even harder to find now and if you do, indeed find one, you're going to pay an outrageous amount of money just for an adapter that used to sell for $40!!
For the cost of this adapter, you could just buy new speakers.
The big problem with the old Apple Pro speakers is that Apple went out of its way to make sure you couldn't use these speakers with anything else but certain G4 Mac models. The connector and subsequent wiring make these speakers very proprietary and limited use without spending gobs of time altering some of the components and purchasing external computer audio amps and connectors.
Apple simply made these unusable on anything but their own hardware at that time.
It's simply not worth the effort.
Look in the Apple Store online. There are a lot of decent priced, good-looking speakers to use with your iMac.
    Good hunting!

  • Mini-Jack to RCA connector scheme nee

    Hi!
I've purchased a Creative X-Fi card and got a receiver with bookshelf speakers for gaming and listening music, but didn't notice that SPDIF doesb't carry a Dolby Digital encoded sognal ;((.
In such case I need to make the interconnectors from mini-Jack to RCA input of my receiver. Please give me the scheme of this connectors (I mean where on mini-Jack is left /right and where on RCA must be plus/minus).
I need this information very much, as I still cant get satisfied with my equipment .
    Thank you for help
    Timur.

    timur,
I think (but I'm not certain) this is what you are looking for. Go to the link below and click on "External Connectors such as Microphone, Line-In, Line-Out, Digital Out, Center/Subwoofer/Rear Center Out." Then click on "Line-in and Line-Out" for a diagram of the rear jack Line-out & 2 connections for the left and right, front and rear speakers. Then click on "Line-out 3..." for the center, subwoofer, etc connections. These diagrams refer to Line-outs , 2, & 3 on the backplate of your X-Fi. (The 2nd, 3rd, and 4th /8-inch jacks from the top.) The center of the RCA connector is signal, the outer shield is ground.

I'm afraid, my explanation is too complicated. The question is wich cable do I need to connect X-Fi Fatality to my reciever, which has digital SPDIF input and MultiChannel analog RCA input.
And please give me the scheme of such a connector, or a link where it is described, as, unfurtunately, Russia is not covered by Creative on-line store. The best variant for me would be of course DTS-60, but this device is unavailable in Russia at the moment ;(.

  • (Too) Variable Audio Output through mini jack

Tried looking through prior posts to see if anyone had remotely similar problems. Just lately my 5G iPod will radically change in volume level mid-song; so much so that it distorts and is in danger of blowing my speakers in my car. Don't have Sound Check on but doesn't seem to be an issue here as it's midsong. I mostly listen to it through speakers plugged in to the mini jack, or headphones and not the dock. Any ideas what this might be caused by?

Only the most recent late 2010 MacBook Airs support audio over Mini Display Port.
For an older machine, you'll need something like this: http://www.amazon.com/Mini-DisplayPort-HDMI-Adapter-Audio/dp/B0033SM2BQ/ref=sr_1 _14?ie=UTF8&qid=1306806721&sr=8-14 or this: http://www.amazon.com/Displayport-Toslink-Female-Converting-Adapter/dp/B003BS2PF G/ref=pd_sim_sbs_e_5

  • Mini jack headsets line level or mic level?

Can someone please tell me if they have tested the mini jack headsets with a mac.  I know for a fact that if the microphone doesn't provide a line level input, that you won't be able to use this type of headset on a mac.  Even if you have the physical ports needed on your mac and the mac knows how to interpret the mic signal, you won't be able to use the headset unless it provides a line level input.

G4 Minis do not have optical out - only analog.
Line-level seems to be a strenght of analog signal - according to this WikipediA article. Whether the G4 will adjust the signal depending on which type of cable you use or always send the same signal is unknown to me, but there is no option in System Preferences nor in Audio MIDI Setup (in /Applications/Utilities) to specify which kind of signal can be sent.

  • Left channel stops working when I use headphones, with mini-jack AND iMic

Hello. Both the external speakers work on my intel iMac 20 inch. I can go to system prefs/sound and toggle from left to right, and they both work. BUT: when I plug in headphones/earbuds (I've tried 4 different pairs), I only get sound in the right ear. I thought it could be a problem with the audio out mini jack at the back of the iMac, but even when I plug earphones/headphones into my USB griffin iMic, the same thing happens. Sound in one ear only. Any help would be appreciated!

    Hi there,
I assume you are saying your Internal Speakers are working correctly (not external), and audio out jack does not work properly and even using your iMic gets you the same results.
There is one last place you can check, HD > Applications > Utilities > Audio MIDI Setup... here you can do some adjustments etc... it's the last thing I can think of other than calling it a hardware problem.

  • How to use 5.1 sound using mini jack output ?

    Hi there,
I have an iMac 27" core i5, and I would like to plug my Dolby 5.1 6-speakers-system (including sub) to it. How can I do else than using the mini-jack output which produce only stereo 2.1 sound ?
NB : my speaker system uses 3 mini jacks (green, pink and black) for rear speakers, front speakers and center/subwoofer.
Thank you for you answers and proposals.
    Best regards,
    Pierre Goffart

thanks again but perhaps i didnt explain clearly enough. I dont want to have simultaneous optical input and output, other wise there wouldnt be a problem. The speakers i have are 5. computer speakers. The computer is connected to them via 3*3.5mm jacks from the sound card to the sub, the other sattelite speakers are connected by audio rca to the sub. My speakers have no optical-in on them, hence having to to re-route the sound through a sound card (if it would work). Essentialy using the sound card as an amp or as a big optical to 3*3.5mm jack adaptor.

  • Shuffle mini-jack gone bad

Yesterday my Shuffle started cutting in and out and making crackling noises. Straight to the point - it's not the earbuds after all. They work fine with the PB and my FM walkman. The in and out and crackling noises happens with another earphone and the cassette adapter.
If you wiggle the mini jack it seems snug with no give. Pulling it partway out or pushing it in and holding it tighter seems to be the trick. Just leaving it when it's "both channels go" it's fine - but if I'm sitting still I can plug into my PB and iTunes.
Shuffle is about 16 months old and I love it. But... the service fee to exchange it is about $13 less than a brand new one. So are there any alternative ways to fix this thing? Is it just a dirty jack? (I should be so lucky!) Any ideas?
    Thanks.

First, spritz both jack and plug with a bit of CRC or other electronic cleaner, then exercise it in and out a few times. That might help. If it does, go no further.
Caveat: All of these suggestions are based on the mini-jack not having an actual mechanical fault. They may not work but, absent disassembly and detailed inspection and testing, they are the things that you can actually be doing on your own.
If no luck, I'd hit it with a few quick puffs of compressed air, very dry, give it a few gentle knocks, and then repeat the step above.
Still no luck, and out of warranty and desperate, there would be a few other things. Start with any solution to mechanically fix the jack in place at a spot where it works; use museum security clay, use duct tape, use epoxy, your choice.
Last gasp steps, assuming disassembly's not intended and it was seen as unuseable anyway, might be something like a heavy application of cleaner, allow to dry, then a total fresh water soaking for a while followed by a long drying time in a slow, dry oven.

  • Actually i use the mini-jack to cinch connection to stream music to my stereo.  is there a possibility to use the digital output?  my sterea amply does not have a digital imput.

actually i use the mini-jack to cinch connection to stream music to my stereo.  is there a possibility to use the digital output?  my stereo amp does not have a digital imput.  are there good converters available?

By default, your AirPort Express is using an internal DAC to convert the digital audio stream to analog when you connect an analog audio cable to it audio output port. You can; however, connect an external DAC to the same port using a optical digital cable and let the external DAC do the conversion for your stereo.
