MINI netbook NB505-N508GN

I purchased this little 10 1/2" netbook last week. It's great but I ordered a memory upgrade shortly after - after talking with 2 tech support people and chatted with another 2.  There were 2 moduals recommended for this mini book.  One was Kingston and one was a toshiba.  I ordered the Toshiba and when I got it and tried to install it the 'notch' and the 'key' didn't match up!  Toshiba customer service is going to take it back but then I contacted tech support again to find out why this happened and what I should do, the young man asked me more info, looked it up and found out that this netbook takes only a Hynix or a Micron memory module.  He gave me the numbers but Toshiba's website doesn't have them and I can't find anyone who does.  Has anyone else run into this problem?  the numbers are Hynix: K000065750 or Micron K000087460.  I've done a lot of searching.  I can't believe 4 tech persons didn't know this.  Now I'm not even sure about the 5th ones information.  Any suggestions are welcome.  Thanks

Sorry folks, I removed my reply. I read some reviews on Amazon.com that indicated that the "GN" netbook takes DDR3 memory, as does the "BL". So the recommendation I made in my previous posting, for a DDR2 upgrade, would be incorrect. Sorry.

  • Upgraded my NB505 mini netbook from win 7 starter to 7 home premium. Then cam & mic stopped working.

I upgraded my NB505 mini netbook from win 7 starter to win 7 home premium. My cam and mic worked fine directly before the upgrade. I tried to reboot, reinstal the drivers, and redownload the app, but nothing worked. When I open the cam app, the blue cam light cuts on, but there is no feed onscreen. It will "take" pics and videos in the sense that it will show a preview of a default pic but not the one taken. These media files are unopenable, because they aren't real. please help!!!

When you upgrade properly, no drivers or utilities are disturbed. And it takes only minutes.

  • USB Recovery of Netbook (NB505-N500BL) w/o USB Boot Option

I recently recovered from malware, and would really like to recover the netbook to out-of-box state.  I've found the links to order the recovery USB (this netbook does not have a DVD drive).  The manual suggests creating/using recovery media on either DVD or USB.
In checking out the boot menu though, it doesn't appear to have a "Boot From USB" option.  It only shows HDD/FDD or LAN.
The only thing I can think of is, when a bootable USB is attached (at start-up), the boot menu will recognize it, however, my experience with BIOS/boot menus, this isn't expected behavior (it should show up as an option whether or not something is connected).
Is there any way to do recovery of this netbook?

I think you'll find that when there is a drive plugged in, the BIOS does indeed show USB in the boot sequence.
Notice in the section Restoring from recovery DVDs/media, which begins on p. 60, you are instructed to insert the USB flash drive before turning on the computer.

  • Adding programs to mini notebook NB505-N508?

This is a novice question, but I was hoping someone could confirm.
Can this mini notebook run Quicken?  I have an external CD-ROM drive for installation, and the specifications for this computer seem to match what is required from Quicken.
My concern is that this computer seems to be for web surfing and such.  I just wanted to confirm it could also run software programs.  Quicken is the only program I need to run, and the only thing I will use this computer for.
    Thanks in advance!

Sure, Michelle. You'll find it can use most any programs that are compatible with Windows 7.
If it's a little slow, you can double the memory (from 1 to 2 GB).

  • Flash player for mini netbook with windowsCE 5.0 ???

    Help !!!!
We bought our 2 sons a mini netbook each with windows CE 5.0 but no matter how many times we have tried we are unable to download any flash player onto them, is this windows not compatable with flash player ????

    Hi
since this happens in a new user account too, we can presumably exclude the user settings for enable plug-ins, which would cause a near-identical problem (Blank plug-ins page), as well as Safari extensions & other per-account add-ons.
Do you have any add-ons in HD/Library/InputManagers/ ?
tried quitting Safari, temporarily moving all except the Flash Player.plugin from HD/Library/Internet Plug-Ins/ & testing again ?
(sometimes a plugin can interfere with others on Safari, yet other browsers behave normally)

  • How to make Media Manager work on HP Mini netbook

I'm trying to lift all the images off my Bold as it's running out of memory and keeps crashing.  I use an HP Mini netbook (with a Bold a brilliant combination).  BUT media manager won't run as it says the screen size is too small and it closes itself.  How to get around this?
Also... how to lift all images from device memory onto the memory card in one go instead of image by image?
    thanks!

Screen resolution with the Roxio Media Manager is a known (but, so far, unresolved) issue. See most recently -
    http://supportforums.blackberry.com/t5/BlackBerry-Desktop-Software/BB-Media-Sync-Windows-Overrun-Dis...
I don't know if the HP can handle screen resolution up to the Roxio's minimum requirements. In my case (an ASUS 1005HA),  I opened the Desktop Manager and got to its Media screen. Then I right-clicked a blank part of my ASUS Desktop and went to Properties > Settings and slid the Screen Resolution up to 1024 x 768 > OK. Once this was done, I was then able to open the Roxio Media Manager and scroll cown the screen to access the appropriate controls for shifting files to / from the BB and the microSD. Once done with the Roxio closed, I then reset my screen resolution.
    Tedious, n'est pas?
Plan B (if your HP can't handle the increased recreased resolution) - and possibly more elegant in the long run if it works - might be the freeware BeamExplorer File Manager -
    http://appworld.blackberry.com/webstore/content/4841
I've not tried it myself yet, but if it works as it implies, you should be able to move your photos from the BB's memory to the microSD from within this program on the BB itself.
    Hope this helps!

  • HP Mini Netbook Power Switch

My sister is not able to power on her HP Mini 1010NR netbook.  I was looking at the HP Mini 1000 Mainteance ans Service guild and could not find a part number for the replacement switch.  Is there a parts manual and breakdown on this hardware area?  The netbook is out of warrenty, but I would like to fix the issue with a replacement power switch.
    Thanks for any help!
    Update:
I found part #506336-001 to be a "on/off switch and USB card" through a google search, but the service manual only states it to be a USB board.  Can anyone verifiy that tis is the correct part number?

I happen to own one of those.
There is no internal power unit, per se.  Notebooks and netbooks have power circuitry that distribute and rectify power to various parts of the system board.
The greates likelihood is that your power adapter is faulty. Does the power led light up when it is plugged into the netbook?
    Troubleshoot power/battery.

  • Toshiba Mini Netbook Not Booting

Hi everyone, I'm sorry if this is under the wrong category as this is my first post, but anyways I am having problems starting my Toshiba Mini NB 205 netbook. It was fine until maybe the end of May. What happens is when I turn it on, nothing happens, but the light for the power button does light up and I can hear the computers fan go on, but thats it. The display is blank and there is nothing on the screen, not even a back light. I was dual booting into Windows 7 and Windows XP if that makes a difference, but then I removed Win 7 due to its trial ending, so now every time its boots I just click on Earlier Version of Windows, the only solution if you want the computer to boot is if you wait half an hour, then it will boot fine until you try to restart it then it wont boot back up. Much help is appreciated, thanks.

One thing you can try is to boot it up and let it just marinate for a few minutes and see if the storage light starts to show activity.  That would be consistent with a timeout selection of OS if you have a dual boot option.  Eventually the unit will select the first option highlighted within a certain amount of time.  If the storage light does start to show activity after a moment or so, you could have an issue with just the display.  Still a hardware fault though.
Other than that, it honestly sounds like a motherboard fault.  Do you have a spare RAM chip to drop in the unit to check if perhaps you have a bad chip?  Not truly sure if this would influence things, but if you do happen to have a stick around, it would be worth a shot.  EDIT: You could try to boot the unit without the RAM chip if you don't have a spare.  It may beep at you to indicate no RAM, but at least this would allow you to reseat the chip if that may have been a problem.  Worth a shot anyway.
Not much you can do when your unit gives you no video or response on boot other than send it in for repair.  If I can think of anything else, I will come back to post.

  • HP Mini Netbooks - Nothing But Trash!

My HP Mini 1120NR failed after one year of very little use.
HP wants a hundred buks just to talk on the phone some more. I won't put another dime into this inferior product.
You're better off buying local. I had my last machine made to my specs buy knowledgable techs who will service and upgade it in an sustaniable, business-like relationship - not some "telephone support" half-way across the globe.
If you're considering one of these "netbook" computers, you will probably be better off with a full notebook. This HP Mini was nothing but a waste of money.

Part of that may be that when you take your out of warranty system to the local shop, they aren't required to provide you with a resolution - whereas the agents that HP puts on the phone are required to provide you with one, or at least to try their best.
Beyond that, it's opening up a can of worms to talk to someone about an issue, however small. Try talking to a family member who is clueless about computers (Not saying that you are - just that it's generally safer to assume family or someone calling would be) and suggesting that they update their BIOS for an issue, or try older drivers, or rolling back updates. They would require assistance with that, that's very expensive, time-wise. You may be able to do it for family, but on such a large scale, it would be an unwise business move for them to provide free (expensive!) phone support for folks out of warranty.
Chat support is cheaper, and they DO provide it, where - as stated - most manufacturers do not.

  • What the pin out of headset of mini netbook 110-1033CL?

Would you please show me the pin out of the jack that plug in this HP Mini 110-1033CL audio, microphone socket so I can build one?
    I tried:
4 Pole Jack                  Headphone Socket          Mic Socket
    Screen                               Screen                             Screen
    Tip                                       Tip
    Ring 1                                 Ring
    Ring 2                                                                         Tip + Ring
but only hear the sound but not microphone.
    Thanks,

No USB, no Firewire problems. If they went and change the connector from one to another, I can understand and I would not buy the new one.
It is simple, I've used a iPods for years now. Since generation 2 and I've had nanos, iPods, Touch, all of them but an iPhone and the dock connector always worked to get a standard line out signal on the Apple specific connector.
Now, with no warning or indication that we are changing the signals on the Apple connector, it no longer works. Why on earth would I buy one if this is the only one which doesn't work with a very basic accessory ?
I might see if all the Touches used a new connector, but to change the signals on the connector going into the 2nd generation is crazy.
I've googled around and don't even see anyone selling an apple connector to standard mini plug used as inputs on car stereo inputs.
Again, I must be missing something ? am I the only person out there using the dock connector to plug a 2G touch into a standard line in on a stereo ?

  • Toshiba NB505 Netbook having issues....

    Hi,
I have a Toshiba NB505 Mini Netbook and two nights ago it was working fine. Last night when I tried to start it up there was no screen at all, there was no Toshiba logo nothing, the screen remained black however there were lights where the WIFI indicator is as well as it processing something and the power light indicating that it is on, but no screen. Then I notice that I could not power it off properly. When I pushed the power button to power it off manually it would just turn a few of the lights off on the bottom but the power light was still on. The computer is full charged and I have no idea what is going on. I have photos on this Mini netbook that I would like to take off and I would like to use the netbook but need some troubleshooting solutions to either get my files off or get the screen to turn back on. Also when I first booted it up I heard the fan on and it was blowing hard but now the fan goes on for a few seconds and then off. I am also having trouble starting up the computer now as if the power button does not work. I have never dropped the computer ever and it is alway in a cool environment. I tried the unplug the power and batter and push the power button for a few seconds thing and it did not work.
If anyone knows of anything I can do to get my files off or get the computer to magically work I would be very thankful.
If anyone knows of any solutions please email me at [email protected] please no spam!!
