Mini PCI Card causes Mac Pro to think the CPUs are overheating

I bought a Mini PCi Card that I am using in an 8x 2.28 machine and when I put it in the system thinks the CPUs are overheating (red lights near RAM risers). When I pull it out there is no problem.  Any way to force MacPro to bypass POST?  Any other ideas?

This is called driving in the dark, blind.
What card is it you are trying to use, and what is the make, etc of it? and there are a couple makes of adpaters.
There are PCI cards that were keyed for 3.3v and 5v and some for both.
Anyone that dealt with SCSI controllers, with how even the drivers and firmware of the drive and card and OS had to be matched and certified to be compatible.
Buit all of this is just meaningless chatter.
I think you are calling a PCIe 1x slot as mini.
And why would you want to?
Again, plug in the make/model and other specs and facts, then hit Bing (or Google, but I come to prefer Bing).

  • Can you use regular PCI cards in Mac Pro?

My G5 is getting a bit long in the tooth and I want to buy a Mac Pro. It says that it supports PCI Express cards, but I have several PCI cards in my PowerMac. Since I don't want to buy them all over again, I was wondering if they will work in the Mac Pro?

    Hello Hatter,

It's that last sentence I'm curious about.  "However a MacPro already has much more capability already built in than Thunderbolt can add."
I'm thinking of getting a Mac Pro, but see that it doesn't seem to have Thunderbolt. I'm not sure if I care. The reason for the Mac Pro is that I'm topping out my 8gb RAM 27" iMac capacity with the volume of work going through it, and my tech tells me I'm pushing it too hard.  I use it to run a small law office, but usually have about 15 apps open, with lots going on in the network in the background.
Is there any reason to wait until Apple puts Thunderbolt into the Mac Pro?
Thunderbolt will not increase the performance capability of the MacPro. It will add a bus that can be convenient, especially later on when Thunderbolt devices become more common, more mature and better supported - oh, and with more common will come less costly. From a pure performance standpoint the existing PCIe slots are much more capable and cheaper to implement. You would be giving up nothing with a current MacPro.
My opinion. Thunderbolt is really a great move forward in the long run - needed something to replace Firewire and this is it. But there is no reason to wait on Thunderbolt on MacPro - it is redundant.

  • PCIe x1 video Card for Mac Pro 2006?

    Hello ,
My need is a little backwards of the regular request. We have a 2006 Mac Pro (upgraded to the dual quad-core Xeon 2.33ghz E5345) we are using for LTO data backup, not the usual graphics/editing setup.
So what we have found is the original NVidia card is PCIe 8x graphics, we also have an 8x RAID card and an 8x SAS HBA for the LTO tape drives. All this is taxing the PCIe bus on this older mac. We would like to free things up a bit by putting in a video card that does not attempt to use, or at least reserve a full 8 lanes for it's own use.
If this was a newer Mac Pro then no issue... But as it is now, I am getting lockups and freezes and other issues that I am sure are related to having 3 high-bandwidth cards in the same machine.
Anyone know of a good x1 business graphics card that can work for a Mac Pro (Snow Leopard 10.6.8)
    Robert

    Move the cards.
    Some slots can't be 16x, and one can't be 8 or 16x.
Also, the PCIe is 1.1 which means half the bandwidth of current specification.
A driver or utility ought to tell you it isn't getting bandwIdth I guess.
A PC with PCIe 2.1, or wait for next generation of motherboards that could have even more bandwidth, PCIe 3.0, to support things like ThunderBolt, SSD controllers with 8 and 16Gbit/sec in bandwidth.
Or a computer with more than 4 PCIe slots or an expansion chassis.
    What could be cause?
    drivers
    IOKit
Rule out means trial and error of trying with just one thing changed at a time and get it working, then move on.
7300GT in slot #3 for starters.
Put your most demanding in slot #1 which is double width.
More air flow, boost the darn fan rpm and keep them @ 1200 rpm
I'd pull drive bay #4 and keep it free to allow more airflow for an 8x card
High density FBDIMMs. Odd but 4GB DIMMs run cooler and better, and in 1,1 the ideal is just a set of 4 (two on each Riser) for 4 x 2GB or 4 x 4GB.
Different SAS and RAID cards. Maybe they don't get along and have bus contention or driver conflict.
Are you using ATTO? usually a good bet.
You aren't using Mid-2010 Mac Pro and can't use 64-bit kernel, which is a shame but simplifies troubleshooting and no issue with 64-bit drivers.

  • 4 port Esata PCIe 8x card crashes mac pro

    Hi
I now have purchased a couple different PCIe esata cards. A cheap one at Best Buy that the drivers crashed my computer. So I bought and expensive 4 port card that is suppose to be compatible with a Mac Pro. Loaded the newest drivers from the site and guess what it crashes my computer. I had a powermac G5 prior and it worked fine with a esata pcix card. Any suggestions???

    Hi kasmik;
Your PowerMac G5 used Open Firmware and the Mac Pro that you are running now uses EFI. So the old PCIe card doesn't have the correct code in RAM to run with the Mac Pro.

  • Multiple GeForce GT 120 Graphics cards on Mac Pro

I have  an Early 2009 Mac Pro 4,1 Quadcore 2.66GHz running OS 10.6.8, with the factory-supplied NVIDIA GeForce GT 120 Graphics card (in PCIe Slot 1), connected to a Lacie Photon19vision Monitor (via VGA thru MiniDisplayPort adaptor) and a 30" Apple Cinema Display (via Dual-link DVI) - this has been working perfectly for years.
I have just got a 2nd GeForce GT 120 from eBay to utilise a 2nd Lacie Photon19Vision Monitor as a 3rd display via this 2nd NVIDIA card, which I installed in PCIe Slot 2. Both this 2nd card and this 3rd display are recognised in System Profiler, but I am unable to get a visible signal through to the display. I have tried the following connections:
VGA (monitor) - VGA/MiniDisplayPort Adapter (card)
    DVI (Monitor) - DVI (card
DVI (monitor) - DVI/MiniDisplayPort Adapter (card)
    None of these have worked.
Any advice on using more than 1 GeForce GT 120 graphics card in the Mac Pro, and/or the best connection configuration?
    Many thanks in advance!
    Na1dacra

The hatter is right that at one point, multiple NVIDIA cards caused a problem. But that problem was Kernel Panics, not failure to operate.
You need to be certain the new card works by itself. To do that, install it in slot 1 as the only card, and be certain all the old functions work as you expect. Then you have known-good parts going forward into more complex testing.
When using multiple display, you must be certain you have completely eliminated Mirroring, which will limit resolutions to those that seem to be possible for both displays. You should have a separate blue box for each display, and none should overlap.

  • Satellite 5200-903: Mini PCI Card doesn`t work

    Hello,
I am a user of an:
    Satellite 5200-903: P4-M 2.2/256+256 DDR/60GB/15T SXGA+/DVD-R-RW/nV FX 5600/cPad/WIFI ready/XP
My computer is equipped with an Toshiba Wirless lan Mini PCI Card.
I installed the card a few years ago - everything worked wonderfull.
At the beginning of 2006 I installed a new operating system (XP Pro + SP1, same system as before) because it was necessary.
I installed all driver for the W-Lan Card, obviously the card worked in the correct way (no driver incompatibility or other problems).
But, and thats the reason of this topic here. It isn`t possible to connect my card to any Hot Spot. I tried it with 2 different access points, but the result is the same. "No connection Point found".
Has anyone any idea what to do or in which direction I could look for the failure? Is there maybe any special Software necessary (I couldn`t remember, that in my last installation I had needed special driver or software)
If further informations are necessary, please inform myself.
(sorry for the terrible english, but it isnt my first language.)
    THX for your help

    Hi,
thx for the hints. But unfortunately none of these solved my problem.
    1. I checked my device Manager, it`s shown a Toshiba Wireless LAN Mini Pci Card
    2. The device is activated, with no problems
    3. My wireless activation switch on the left notebook side is activated (led lights yellow)
    4. Pushing the Fn+F8 Button results nothing
(wenn i press the combination during the Notebook switch is off - i got the message "wireless connection is deactivated, please activate")
What have to happen, when pushing the Fn+F8 Button during the wireless switch is activated? Is there any message on the screen?
Concerning the installed driver, how could I check what type of card is installed in my notebook. I know, that there a two types of driver and card existing, toshiba and atheros.
But, if the installed driver causes no problems I guess the right driver is installed.
    Thx for any further Idea...

  • Replace WLAN Mini PCI Card in U350

I got a brand new U350 end of last week, and beside the fan noise I'm really happy with the device (like many others I do hope Lenovo will provide an updated BIOS that will change the fan behavior to make it more quiet).
However, I'd like to replace the Broadcam b/g WLAN Mini PCI Card with a b/g/n card. I was thinking of getting an Intel 5100AN card and was wondering if such a card would work, or if there is a lock in the BIOS that will prevent it from working (I read somewhere that even if Lenovo uses such cards, the ones you can purchase in stores would not work).
    Thanks,
    Mike

Thank you for your answer. I appreciate.
Since my question, I've found a solution for my wifi card to work. It was given by "electrochain". It just consisted by manually disabling a specific pin on my card. And now, it works.
    Thank you again.
    Best regards

  • ATI 5770 1GB Video Card For Mac Pro dvi hdmi cable

I am sending video signal over a 50FT HDMI To DVI from my Mac Pro (3,1) via ATI 5770 1GB Video Card For Mac Pro (5.0 GT/s) (181062917108) and I cannot get a constant signal to my TV. The signal stays on for a few seconds or several hours or my TV (Samsung) says there is no signal or I get just a gray static screen.
I never had a problem before with my previous video card the 512MB nVidia GeForce 8800GT with a 25ft long cable. Any ideas people?

A cable of about 5 meters (16 ft) can be manufactured to Category 1 specifications easily and inexpensively by using 28 AWG (0.081 mm²) conductors.[114] With better quality construction and materials, including 24 AWG (0.205 mm²) conductors, an HDMI cable can reach lengths of up to 15 meters (49 ft).[114]
    from: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HDMI
You may need a higher-quality cable or a lower resolution for your display to make this work without an HDMI Repeater.

....Have Power Mac ver. 10.9.5 system Maverick w/ 4 MB RAM & am trying to locate hardware for:
acquiring "FIRE WIRE" video capture cards for mac pro.... ? Any suggestions....?(Just purchased Adobe CS 5 premium)

Your question doesn't make much sense.
What type of Mac Pro do you have? Is it the new black cylinder or the old style silver tower?
Firewire is built-in to the old models & the new Mac Pros can use Thunderbolt to Firewire converters to capture from Firewire sources.
    Maybe like this http://store.apple.com/us/product/MD464ZM/A/apple-thunderbolt-to-firewire-adapte r
Many older cameras used Firewire for capturing, but that has been replaced by other connection types. What are you trying to capture from?

  • Motion:  Video Cards with Mac Pro?

I don't see the new video cards for the Mac Pro listed in the "minimum" or "recomended" system requirements.
Does anyone know how these new cards will rate?

My understanding is that the X1900 is pretty powerful, the 7300 - not so much - more like the 6600, and of course the Quadro is smokin' - but probably not good bang-for-buck when it comes to Motion. Meaning that the Quadro will give great results, but not a LOT over the X1900...
Of course, the x1900 still has the 2k texture limit. And it's too early for any aftermarket/flashing options yet.
