Mini-PCIe port for WAN on X120e other uses

Hi, I ordered a X120e without the WAN conectivity option so it came without the card but i do have that mini-PCIe available, is it possible to use that port for something else? I wanted to put a second wifi card for penetration testing and research... or even some solid storage card in there.

Well, unless you hack the BIOS to white-list whatever wireless card you install, it'll be a moot point. Also, you'd need to find a pcie ssd with an onboard controller that advertises itself as a drive controller, of which none of the available ones I know of does. So, in conclusion, unless an engineer comes out and says it can support more, odds are we can't use it for much anything outside of Lenovo wireless cards.

  • Using ssd in mini pci-e for U260

I saw the post about installing an ssd into the ideapad u260 http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/IdeaPad-Y-U-V-and-Z-series/Ideapad-U260-Installing-an-SSD/m-p/483963#M39...,
but that is technically beyond what I'm willing to do at this point, and I'd like to keep a large drive for data, and use ssd for OS, etc.
My laptop has a Mini PCI-e, that I can't imagine using for anything, and I can get mini pci-e drive with mSata controllers apparently fairly reasonably priced. http://www.amazon.com/MyDigitalSSD-64GB-50mm-Bulletproof-mSATA/dp/B004X5YAP4/ref=sr_1_2?s=electronic...
    But I'm wondering
    1) will this work with a u260
    2) will it actually fit IN the slot?? Or will it end up sticking out of the side of the computer
    3) (this is a bit sad), how do you get the PCI slot open? I see it on the left-side, but the cover doesn't want to seem to come off. Why would Lenovo put the slot there and then just hide it behind this peice of plastic?

Hi pedalpete and welcome to the community,
Are you sure that isn't the multi-card reader, for SD cards and such?
Try pushing the cover in and it should spring back out if it's the card reader.

  • Wireless mini PCI card for Satellite P10

    Hi all,
can anyone help me find a wireless mini pci card for my Satellite P10-304 in the UK?

    Hi
I found several WLAn minPCI Wlan cards which could be compatible with the Satellite P10 notebook.
Wireless LAN card PA3212U-4MPC (Agere 802.11b)
    PA3273U-2MPC (Atheros 802.11ab)
    PA3300U-1MPC (Atheros 802.11g)
    PA3298U-1MPC (Atheros 802.11a/g)
Please take a look on the WLan 802.11 standards!
If you WLan router support an 802.11 standard I would recommend taking the PA3273U-2MPC or PA3212U-4MPC

  • Is a 1394 mini firewire port for DV cameras a regular firewire port?

I wanted use the mini 1394 mini fire wire port for some peripherals (IDE drive in firewire enclosure). I have digital camera cable with a 4pin? mini firewire plug and a 6pin? normal fire wire plug (both are males). Or mini fire wire ports for cameras only. All I will do is some backups, performance is not needed.
Just cause it fits, it don't make it right. (remember the ADB and Svhs cables?)
I do not want to be surprised with a burnt inexpensive resistor that cost very much to change.
    Thankyou in advance

No, Apple dropped the firewire port on the White Unibody MacBooks in 2009. If you you need a firewire port you'll have to upgrade to a MacBook Pro or get a used pre-2009 MacBook.

  • What to do with free mini PCIe - Flash for pagefile

    Hi,
in my T500 there is a free mini PCIe Slot near the SIM Slot, but it is only half length. I found an SSD from SuperTalent in this Dimensions. Anybody out there who tried to use this Slot for storage purposes e.g. $TEMP or pagefile?

It will not work. This SSD is intended for the Dell Mini 9, which utilizes a special kind of mini PCI-e slot [FLASH_CON]. This slot is connected to a PATA or SATA controller on the mainboard.
The SSD will not work on standard mini PCI-e slots because they are not connected to a PATA or SATA controller.
I believe that half height mini PCI-e slot is used for Intel Turbo Memory.

    Hi,
I don't think supressing through Global Personalization will change the business logic. Within the Business Logic it checks for the mandatory field.
After the changes I guess you need to make the changes accordingly.

  • Query on SR520-ADSL and using FE ports for WAN

    Hi all,
Apologies for a noob type question here but I am hoping to save myself a junk of money:
I currently have a Cisco SR520-ADSL router in place utilising my current ADSL2+ Broadband connection.
The router is using a /29 Public address range on the ATM interface and on one of the FE ports to a firewall on the same subnet, which does the NAT to the PCs etc.
    Internet <> SR520 (Public) <> Firewall (Public) <> LAN/PCs (Private/NAT)
This is all working fine but we are looking to upgrade our WAN link to a corporate Fibre link.
My ISP has given me new IP addresses, including a seperate WAN IP Subnet to my LAN IP Subnet, but all are still public.
e.g. (Addresses Just for example purposes)
    WAN = 195.1.1.1 /30
    My Router IP = 195.1.1.2
    ISP Gateway = 195.1.1.1
    LAN IP = 190.1.1.1 /29
So my question is simply this: Can I utilise my SR520 to route the two networks, using two of the FE ports and ignore the ATM (ADSL) port?
If so then I don't need to invest in a 1841 or similar and, for now, this will save me money.
I am just not sure if the useability of the 4 FE ports on the SR520 is reduced in any way when compared to a 1841 or similar?
    Regards,
    Chris Snape

    Hi Chris,
Sure, the port itself is layer 2 only, but there is no reason why you couldn't assign that to a dedicated layer 3 vlan interface.
    eg:
    conf t
    vlan 32
      name WAN
      exit
    interface fast 1
      switchport access vlan 32
      exit
    interface vlan 32
      ip address 10.10.10.10 255.255.255.0
The SR520 supports 4 VLANs, you can use the show vlan-switch command to see what is already configured.
As I mentioned previously, there may be certain limitations to using this approach, but it may be sufficient for many scenarios.
Also, just to repeat for others reading this thread, while possible, this is not a specifically supported configuration for the SR520 series routers.
    Regards,
    Andy

  • Mini PCIe card for LTE?

Does anyone know if this is available thru any seller? My laptop is set up with a SIM card slot. Would be nice to have that option. I know VZW doesn't sell them directly, it took 3 online chats to get that answer, the 1st 2 people were clueless.

    CIAVT wrote:
Use the Sonnet tech cards, they have a 10.6 compatibility matrix in the support section of their site. Yes, I paid more for the card when I got it, but I haven't had any headaches with it at all. I guess you get what you pay for.
This is good advice for both PCIe and Expresscard. I have discussed this with Sonnet and I think they regret the cheap/expensive strategy owing to the lack of support on SI drivers. They did lower the price on the Expresscard/34 Pro by 1/3 , or $100.
I still have their E2P (PCIe Si 2 port based card) and an Expresscard/34 (non-Pro) available cheap for anyone who thinks Si drivers are a good value.
The new 64 bit driver will be nice for the handful that run in a true 64 bit boot situation which won't be many and is not really necessary at all anyway. OF course if you have one 32 bit driver you need then that won't be a viable option.

  • How to specify one ethernet port for network home directories (other for normal filesharing)?

So I'm trying to get Home Directories up and running on a 10.6.8 Xserve (waiting until I get my NFS sharepoints migrated to a Linux server [for other reasons] before moving up to 10.7 Server). But posting here since that will be happening in the next few weeks, and it might be applicable now (so I can at least get that resolved ahead of time).
I have a different DNS entry for each ethernet port: server.office.domain.com at 192.168.0.11 for the first, and homes.services.internal at 192.168.0.10 for the second. DNS lookups for both resolve correctly (as does the reverse lookup).
If I use the Server Admin to pick a sharepoint as an automount for Home Directories, everything is fine, but it picks the server.office.domain.com hostname. Picking that works just fine, but that is also the connection that feeds the filesharing. I'd prefer to split that home directory traffic out onto the second ethernet port. So I tried just duplicating the initial connection (since it can't be edited directly in Workgroup Manager) and changing the hostname to the internal one, but I get an error when attempting to log in (the client login screen gives a very helpful "Couldn't login because of an error" error message) and don't see anything in the server logs.
The client machine shows the following line:
    Code:
    10/20/12 5:27:42.688 PM authorizationhost: ERROR | -[HomeDirMounter mountNetworkHomeWithURL:attributes:dirPath:username:] |
         PremountHomeDirectoryWithAuthentication( url=afp://homes.services.internal/Users,
         homedir=/Network/Servers/homes.services.internal/Volumes/HomeDirectories/Users/ user123, name=user123 ) returned 45
(added line breaks so it didn't extend off the page)
So it looks like this is failing because the automount isn't in place, but I'm not sure how to work that out either (i.e. how do I add that making sure it uses the internal hostname?).
Any suggestions on getting this to work?
I realize one solution is just to LACP the two ports, but that is a different ball of wax (I may do that later if I get a 4 port ethernet card and performance limitations demand it).

A possible solution might be this.
On ADSLBOX and CABLEBOX configure different subnets for the LAN, e.g.
    ADSLBOX:    192.168.1.0/24
    CABLEBOX: 192.168.2.0/24
The MEDIABOX gets these static IPs:
    ADSL-LAN: 192.168.1.2
    CABLE-LAN: 192.168.2.2
On the MEDIABOX, configure the two network interfaces using two routing tables.
    The ADSL-LAN routing table
ip route add 192.168.1.0/24 dev eth0 src 192.168.1.2 table 1
ip route add default via 192.168.1.1 table 1
    The CABLE-LAN routing table
ip route add 192.168.2.0/24 dev eth1 src 192.168.2.2 table 2
ip route add default via 192.168.2.1 table 2
    The main routing table
ip route add 192.168.1.0/24 dev eth0 src 192.168.1.2
ip route add 192.168.2.0/24 dev eth1 src 192.168.2.2
    # use the CABLE-LAN gateway as default, so general internet traffic from MEDIABOX runs over CABLEBOX
ip route add default via 192.168.2.1
    define the lookup rules
ip rule add from 192.168.1.2 table 1
ip rule add from 192.168.2.2 table 2
    To test the setup:
    ip route show
    ip route show table 1
    ip route show table 2
I don't know how to persist something like this in ArchLinux using netctl. Might require to write a special systemd unit for it. Above is a working example from a RedHat box at my company.

  • Mini Display Port for early MacPro

I want to be able to drive a 24" LED monitor from my 2007 MacPro (i.e. with 667MHz DDR2 FB-DIMM memory and PCI Express 1 slots). Does anyone know of a card with MDP that will work in this Mac?

Hmm, interesting, although I'm always reluctant to have yet another device sitting on the desk and it's powered, so that means yet another mains adapter that has to be plugged in somewhere.
However, at $180 that's slightly more than a Geforce GT120 display card which has Mini DisplayPort built-in.
BUT, I'm now pretty well convinced that the GT120 will NOT run in a CloverTown MacPro due to the EFI 32/64 issue:-(
The best option therefore appears to be either the Atlona adapter above, or the ATi Radeon 4870 that should run in the CloverTown, but at more than twice the cost of the GT120.
All a bit of a mess really isn't it.

  • Y580 - Unsoldered mini PCIe or mSATA port?

I noticed that there are pins for a second mini PCIe port next to the wireless card in my Y580.
A little research led me to discover that it was for a TV Tuner card.
(page 47 in the pdf, 43 in the document)
    http://download.lenovo.com/consumer/mobiles_pub/ideapad_y480_y580_hmm_1st_edition_mar_2012_english.p...
The actual port is not soldered onto the board.
I don't know if the pins can work with an mSATA SSD (pins go to the SATA host controller too?).
The port is there and I would like to make that port useful.
Given amazing soldering skills, could I solder a port there and install another mSATA card?
Or are those pins specifically for mini PCIe?

Any success soldering an msata connector?

  • Mac Mini Early 2006 Mini PCIe SATA Card Not Showing Up

I'm trying to add a couple of SATA ports to an early 2006 mac mini by swapping out the mini PCIe AirPort for a SATA card. This is the card I'm using http://www.startech.com/Cards-Adapters/HDD-Controllers/SATA-Cards/2-Port-Mini-PC I-Express-Internal-SATA-II-Controller-Card~MPEXSATA22I, problem is it doesn't seem to show up when installed in the mac. The card works perfectly when installed in a different machine.
The AirPort card shows up fine when swapped back, so the connector's okay. But with the SATA card installed, System Profiler says the computer doesn't contain any PCI cards. I've tried resetting the NVRAM with no success. I don't even see an entry for the device it in the ioreg output, so I'm thinking there might be a power issue. Does the mac mini supply both 3.3V and 5V to the mini PCIe connector? Is there anything special I need to do to get this card to show up?
    Thanks.

There a long thread about this on the 123MacMini forum.  At page three, they mention drivers (you need drivers, right?) and there is a link...
    http://www.123macmini.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=22943&postdays=0&postorder=asc& highlight=pcie+sata&start=30
Actually, that thread might refer to a different, but similar, card.
Don't know if it finally worked.  Be very interested to hear.  (Not sure why Apple is/has always shunned eSATA?)

  • Mini-DVI port not working: wear and tear?

I had been happily using the mini-DVI port to play content on TV, using a DVI to Video adapter : plugging and unplugging probably twice a week.
Now it seems to have stopped, abruptly: no signal at all is reaching the TV. (Adapter still works fine on my MacBook.)
What are the chances of wear and tear damaging the DVI port? Is this a complicated fix? Any other thoughts? No recent upgrades or updates.
"About this Mac" reckons it's mirroring fine, so it feels like a hardware thing. Many thanks in advance.

    Hello ewfelton
It is very possible that the DVI port on the iMac has been damaged from wear and tear, as it's harder to get at than the MacBook.
I would disconnect everything from the iMac, grab a clean towel and turn it face down on the desk. Then with a magnifying glass and light inspect the DVI port for a broken or bent pin. In the process of inspecting the port your SMC will also be reset, follow the instruction for "How to reset the System Management Controller" when your done.
If the port seems OK and the SMC reset doesn't get it going use Disk Utility to Repair Disk Premissions and try it again.
Your local Apple Store or local Apple Service Provider can replace a bad or damaged DVI port.
    Dennis
