Mini port display to vga adapter  won't work

Hi,
since I upgraded to Maverick I haven't been able to connect to my projector via the miniport display to vga adapter. It all worked before that.
I need to connect to the  Interactive White Board for my work and it really annoys me. I'm forced to use a windows computer. Can you help me?
Have you considered fixing this problem, which is complained by many as far as I know?
Thanks.
El3na.

By any chance were you using a VGA->DVI adapter when trying to use the Mini-DisplayPort->VGA adapter? As in Mini-DisplayPort->VGA->DVI?
I had trouble with this. I found going straight to Mini-DisplayPort->VGA or Mini-DisplayPort->DVI worked perfectly but once I added a VGA->DVI or DVI->VGA adapter to the chain the screen would be detected by OS X but the monitor itself would give the "No signal detected" message. I tried all these combinations on the same monitor.
Not sure if it helps your situation but I have noticed some similar issues.
EDIT: Oh, and I have the new MacBook Pro 15inch with Retina all fully updated. I noticed that with my late-2009 White Macbook didn't have this issue with the cables and adapters.

  • Mini DisplayPort to VGA Adapter won't work on thunderbolt port

    Hello
    I bought 2 new Macbook Pro 13' , 2.9 Ghz Intel Core i7, with 8 Go 1600Mhz DDR3,  Intel HD Graphics 4000 512 MB, Mac OS X Lion 10.7.4 (11E2617).
I have connected a Mini DisplayPort to VGA Adapter in order to show presentations on different LCD projectors but  no image appear.
The external monitor is detected but no image is shown. I have tried to change the frequencies: parts of the screen appears but no a correct image. I have the same symptoms with the 2 Macbook Pro. Using old Macbook Pro with the same Mini DisplayPort to VGA Adapter, the slides are showns normally.
I make a test with a Mini DisplayPort to DVI Adapter and with a Mini DisplayPort to HDMI Adapter and everythings works correctly with both adapters.
    Does anybody has a solution?
Thank in advance for your help
    Philippe

I have an older(2008) MacBook and the MIni display to VGA adapter I purchased doesn't fit my book. Is there one that I can buy that will fit?

The Late 2008 model 5,1 Aluminum Unibody and the Late 2009 model 6,1 and Mid 2010 model 7,1 White Unibody have a Mini DisplayPort. The Early 2006 model 1,1 through Early 2008 model 4,1s plus the Early and Mid 2009 model 5,2s have Mini-DVI ports.

  • Does the mini display to vga adapter work with a pc (win 7 64-bit)

Its not a thunderbolt adapter. its a mini display to vga adapter. my hp ency pc has a mini display port next to the hdmi port.

First make sure the mini-displayport is firmly seated.  They are a bit "sneaky" in that they look like they are fully in but aren't.
I assume that windows has something similar to the mac Displays system preferences.  So you need to check that and set if necessary the proper refresh rate and resolution for the projector.
how do i make it work or is it formated for macs only?
What's "it"?  The projector shouldn't care where it gets its vga signal from (when using the proper refresh rate and resolution).  The adapter is passive and just converts a digital mini-displayport signal to analog vga to pass over the cable (is the cable ok?).  That leaves your laptop.  I can't speak about it or its video card.  But I have to assume that if it supports mini-displayport it should follow the standards for mini-displayports.

  • Mini Display to VGA adapter stopped. The Mini Display to HDMI is still working fine. How´s that possible?

The mini display to VGA adapter had stopped, whinle the Mini Display to HDMI keeps working fine. The minid display to VGA adapter was replaced and the VGA cable as well, and the problem is the same. This test was made with two diferent monitors with VGA entries. How´s that possible to happen? Is that a configuration trouble in the MBP?

The Apple´s customer support gave us the solution for this problem:
    SMC reset
    PRAM reset
The VGA adapter return to work properly aflter this procedure.

You have the display set in Extended Desktop mode. The Menu Bar and Dock will be on the MacBook display and your background screen on the monitor. In System Preferences>Display on the MacBook screen there should be an Arrangement tab when you have the MacBook hooked up to the monitor and both screens working. When you click the Arrangement tab do you see two monitors side by side? One of them will have a Menu Bar at the top. Just click on the Menu Bar and drag it to the second monitor. That will make the second monitor your main screen. You can now use your MacBook in Clamshell Mode with a wired or Bluetooth keyboard and mouse.  http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3131 When you disconnect from the monitor your Menu Bar will automatically change back to the MacBook.

  • Updated OS X Mavericks and now USB ports and MS Office apps won't work. How do I fix this?

I updated  my MacBook Pro (mid 2012) to OS X Mavericks 10.9.4 and now my USB ports and MS Office apps won't work.  What do I do to fix this?

What system version were you running before you updated to 10.9.4? Another 10.9.x or something earlier?
What version of Office? 2004, 2008, or 2011?
Were you aware that Office 2004 does not run on recent versions of the system?
When you say your USB ports do not work, on what are you determining that?
Were you aware that Mavericks does not display external disk volumes by default?

It's not that simple. You need a "smart" device to connect a hard drive to, like a Time Capsule, or another computer, or an Airport Extreme/Express that was made to share a drive, or some other brand router that has a USB port for sharing a drive, etc.

  • Using external Display via Mini-DVI to VGA Adapter does'nt work

    Hey Guys,
    i recently bought a mini-dvi-to-vga adapter.
When I plug it into my macbook and connect it to my 19" external TFT, the MB recognizes the TFT as [Medion] MD30219PH but the display stays blank (no matter if i choose mirroring mode or extended desktop)...
Already changed the Hz-Rate between 59.9, 60 and 75 Hertz and the Resolution also... but nothing happens.
In extended Desktop mode i can even slide the cursor into the area where the display is supposed to be...
    Hope u can help me
    thx

From what I've been told, using the computer's video output isn't outputting a true NTSC picture. I was told when talking about how the Macbook Pros dropped the S-vdieo port that I shouldn't use that anyways, but rather to go the firewire route. THat was actually converts the video source to true NTSC instead of taking a computer output to a TV. While I have no doubt that it works, I'm willing to bet that you'll see a noticeable difference between the G5 S-video and your MB using firewire. Most consumer camcorders from the past several years do digital (firewire) to analogue (NTSC) conversion, so you probably don't even need a new box.

  • Mini display to VGA adapter only supports up to 800x600

I recently bought a mini display port to VGA adapter to connect a second monitor to my mini, but it only detects two resolutions:
640x480 and 800x600. The 17 inch LCD display is capable of much higher resolutions (I think 1400x900), but I cannot find a way to increase the resolution, since the mac only detects the two settings above. How can I tell it to switch a higher resolution?
The monitor works on a windows laptop, so I am sure its not defective.

Do you have an official Apple adapter or did you get a third-party one? If the latter, that could be the problem.

  • Is there a way to predict which video projectors will not work with the 2012 MacBook Air using the Mini-display to VGA adapter?

I recently upgraded from a 2011 MBA to a 2012 MBA due to the larger capacity SSD.  The 2011 MBA running Lion and Mountain Lion worked with every video projector for lectures.  The new 2012 MBA is hit or miss with video projectors.  It is not an adapter problem.  I have multiple Apple mini-display to VGA adapters with the latest firmware.  They all work just fine with the 2011 MBA. Re-starting the 2012 MBA with the adapter and projector connected has not helped.
It it not acceptable to have a laptop that works with projectors some of the time.  Apple is aware of the problem.  Is the only choice to go back to the 2011 MBA?
    RC

I installed 10.8.2 update today with my 2012 MBA.  The details of the update include:  Resolves a video issue with some VGA projectors when connected to certain Mac notebooks.
I tried using the MBA with a video projector and it found the correct resolution and connected with the projector automatically.  Using detect displays in the disoplay preference pane wasn't even necessary.
I hope this is the fix I have been waiting for with the 2012 MBA.
    Thank you Apple.

  • I have a macbook pro with lion os. and i want to connect it to my optoma dlp projector. when i connect through a mini display to vga adapter in MBP it detects as OPTOMA XGA but no image on the screen.

i have a macbook pro. i want to connect it to projector and i have a minidisplay to vga adapter. i could connect my MBP to benq projector successfully and for  all other displays( Monitors). but when i connect it to optoma projector, MBP detects the display as OPTOMA XGA but nothing on bigger screen. i tried changing the resolution and refresh rate also but no changes.
In my office we got benq projectors , for that it is working very well.(plug and play).
and also i want to say that there is no problem with the optoma projector seems, because all other windows laptops are working well with that.
i was struggling with this since one month. i googled it could not find anything supportive for my problem. please help me regarding this. i am new to apple. i hope there must be genius around here.

I need to know which MacBook Pro you have.  Only mid-2010  and later MBP's transmit sound through MiniDisplay Port to HDMI.  I have no information about the Mac Pro, so you might want to go to that Forum and ask there.

  • Mac mini with minidisplayport to vga adapter: display does not sleep

I have a late 2009 mac mini. When using a mini displayport-vga adapter from Apple, whenever the mini puts the display to sleep the video goes black and my monitor goes into test mode (not sleeping).
It's almost like the signal to tell the display to sleep is not passing through the adapter. I have a Dell 2007WFP.
It works correctly with a minidvi-dvi adapter, but I have another computer connected via dvi so I would like to keep the mini on vga.

The dell would not go to sleep, ever.
For anyone else having the same issue, I got it resolved. I got another VGA cable and it now works perfectly. It is possible the cable I was using was older and didn't have a required wire or maybe was broken.
