Mini port to HDMI not working

Trying to connect iMac to my TV with mini port to hdmi genuine adaptor with no success. Works ok if I connect iMac to works Microsoft laptop, it displays immediately. Then connect Microsoft laptop to TV , absolutely fine.
I have looked on Internet & apparently in Display on iMac , arrangements should appear but doesn't on mine.
Any suggestions welcome please.

I think it was my terminology.
What I bought today from PC World was a IMDHDD13 Mini Display Port adaptor which they advised would work!
It plugs into the thunderbolt port on Mac, screen turns blue for a couple of seconds then returns to normal.
In DISPLAY, arrangements doesn't appear & if I search it, it tells me it is hidden because there is no other screen connected.
I'm thinking now after reading your post this is not a genuine apple part PC World have sold me!

I recently purchased a mini-DVI to HDMI adapter so I can hook my macbook to my Vizio 1080p LCD TV. The macbook detects the TV correctly but no matter what I do the TV never detects the macbook on the hdmi input.
Doing some searches I saw discussion of a bug with 1080p that and a trick to get two 1920x1080 resolutions to show up in the display options but it never works for me.
When I connect to my 42" Panasonic 720p everything works great.
Any thoughts??

This sounds a lot like the problem relating to an Apple disclaimer about the mini driving non-coherent displays which seems to especially affect the original G4 mini. See here under the "Video" sub-section:

The problem is the timing for 1680 x 1050 will often have a dot clock above 135 MHz. There are really only a couple things you can do; one is to use the VGA interface as you have been and the second is to use a program like SwitchRes X to lower the pixel clock and stay with the DVI interface. If you want to go the SwitchRes X route, download and install it (get the SwitchRes X Control Panel version and not the full version of SwitchRes X) and then write back to this thread and I can take you through the steps you need to perform. Macbook mini-DVI - DVI - HDMI not working with My 32" Vizio

Okay so my Macbook mini-DVI - DVI - HDMI is not working with My 32" Vizio. I've connected an 18 pin plus one slot DVI to HDMI cable to my 32" Vizio HDTV, this cable is connected to my macbook via a Mini-DVI to DVI cable, this one has 24 pins plus one slot on the DVI side. My Vizio display is blue, no signal, it reads. I'm wondering if the reason it's not picking up the display is the lack of pins on the DVI to HDMI or because I dont have any display options aside from screen size and color on my display menu. BTW I hit the detect display button and nothing happened.... I know I just wrote alot here but hopefully someone will read it and come to the rescue. thanks

Oops, I guess all I had to do was restart my macbook. I feel like an idiot.....all is well.

Mini dvi to hdmi not working in Mountain Lion

mini dvi to hdmi (my TV) worked fine with Lion. After upgrading to ML and trying to use mirroring it says i cannot as it only see one display. TV report no signal.
Any advice?

I recently purchased a new mac pro (2011). I have been trying to connect it to my HD ready tv using a MiniDisplayPort to HDMI cable (from Cablematters). However when I go to system prferences and choose Sound, on the mac, the TV is not showing up in the list of available output sound devices.
Anyone able to help please?

This is probably NOT the solution you're looking for, but use a 3.5mm to 3.5mm (headphone jack) cable to transmit sound. I use stereo speakers with my setup, sounds far better than the TV.

Macbook late 2009 mini DVI to HDMI not working

I never had a problem using my external TV with my macbook untill now. I always connect it using a mini DVI cable to HDMI to TV. It worked pefectly for a while. But recently it stopped working, when i plug in my macbook to TV it shows a blue screen for few seconds and then nothnig. there's no signal on the TV.
Any resolution will be appreciated.

I Started seeing this on my Mac Mini attached to my HDTV from DVI to HDMI after upgrading to 10.5.8.
I am running Spaces. Are you? Is it possibly related to this? I have seen a couple times where the screen was blue for some time and after pressing CTR-Left Arrow
to switch spaces, I would get my screen. Try switching spaces with the keyboard shortcut and see what you get.

Mini Display to HDMI not working

I currently have iMac connected to toshiba tv through minidisplay adapter to hdmi. We can't seem to get it to recognize that the tv is hooked up, we've tried unplugging and replugging turning each device off and on in different combinations. here's what I get on the "display" menu when everything is hooked up.

I had said to my husband that it's probably the adaptor but he didn't think that could be the cause - thanks for confirming that for me! All I can find about it the iMac is this if it helps...21.5-inch, Mid 2011,Processor 2.5 GHz Intel Core i5. I had read that some older macbooks needed to go mini display, to...dvi and then hdmi I think it had said. I was hoping that would've been resolved with thunderbolt. Then it is working! This is how it works:
Your built-in screen and you external screen are each show at sizes proportional to their pixel count. If this is not the correct arrangement, then drag the screens so that they correspond with their placement on your bench.
Then move the mouse off the edge of one screen, and it appears on the other. Next drag a window across to the other screen.

MINI PORT TO HDMI HOOKING UP MAC TO TV

When I connected my mac to my TV using a mini port to hdmi cable I did not see my computer screen view on the TV but instead I saw apples default screen saver (the galaxy shot). I can move pages off my computer to the right and it slides it into the TV shot as if my screen extends out to the right where I can only see it on the TV. How do I change it to view on the TV exactly what I see on the computer?

Well through lots of trial and error I finally figured it out. System Preferences > Displays > Arraingement > check the box that says "mirror displays" I only hope this helps someone else from a long fustrating night.

The Port : 6001 is not working in the system

In the OS level the Port : 6001 is not working and giving the out put as...

As it is the BI java stack system & I configured the SMD & wily in the system. From the BI java stack system the wily agent is not working and it uses the port : 6001.
Now the issue is regarding to the port : 6001
when telnet in the same system which is Virtual host : abcprdpb2 is not working and which I have given the output above. It is working when I telnet to the other systems. Please see the output below...

As I have checked with the firewall team and said it is fine in the system and same us AIX team also. But still port : 6001 issue is not resolved in the Virtual host : abcprdpb2
Can you please let me know how to open the port : 6001 in the Virtual host : abcprdpb2 and also how we can confirm that port : 6001 is opened or blocked in the Virtual host : abcprdpb2.

The both mentioned virtual systems are in different LPAR's (Physical host).
Already I have checked the /etc/services and looks every thing is fine in the file. I have also checked the file inetd.conf and I didn't find any thing # on the Telnet.It seems every thing is fine in the both files.
Can you please look in to it and provide some thing which I have to look in the OS level.

Disable port monitoring task not working

Hi,
On SCOM 2012 SP1 the task "disable port monitoring" is not working. When I run it shows a success message but the port\interface keeps to be monitored on scom, the ports that I'm trying to disable the monitoring are members of the Relay Network
Adapters Group. Is there any way to fix this task or manually stop the monitoring of the port\interface ?

Hi Carlos,
By coincidence I ran into the same problem today.
It can be disabled by creating an override where you target the specific port object and set the parameter enabled=false.
I am not 100% sure this is the correct way but it works. I am assuming the disable port does something similar but I have to open up the task to confirm this.

I was under the idea that if I wanted to convert my
Mini port to hdmi I would get audio as well. Am I missing something?

If your MBP was made before April 2010, there is no audio output from the Mini-Displayport, and you'll need to run a separate audio cable from your headphone port to the TV.

Mini display port to DVI not working

The mini display port of my late 2009 27" iMac is not working with DVI. Using the same monitor, DVI cable, and mini display to DVI adapter, I can connect my Air with no problems. So the monitor, adapter, and cable are fine. I can also connect my iMac to the same monitor using a VGA cable and a mini display to VGA adapter. So the problem clearly seems to be with my iMac. Has anyone had similar problems? Any advice? I think the image quality of DVI is substantially better than VGA so I really would like to get this working. But I don't think the difference is worth carrying my 27" monster into the Apple Store. I could buy a mini display to HDMI adapter, but I would rather not buy yet another adapter (I think I have about 15 already with my various idevices) - and it might not work either. The DVI setup is simple and really should be working. I bought a monitor and also a HD TV with DVI ports specifically for this. Thanks.
