Mini Power Adapter

While looking for a 3rd party small AC adapter for MacBook Pro i came across the A1105 at this website
http://www.shentech.com/apa1mapro85w.html
I tried to find it on Apple's website but cannot. Is this only for an older MacBook Pro? It sells for $25, is it discontinued? unsafe?
Thanks

That is a power adapter for the Mac Mini, not the MacBook Pro (correct wattage, but clearly not a MagSafe connector). Just confusion (or falsehood) on the part of the vendor to call it an MBP adapter.
Apple has not licensed out the MagSafe design, so there are no 3rd party vendors that supply approved power sources for the MBs/MBPs. (There is at least one company out there that sells various adapters, e.g. 12V DC for auto use, where they cut the MagSafe connectors off of Apple power supplies and splice them onto a different adapter. Caveat emptor on those...)
Hope this helps...

  • Using iPod mini Power Adapter to charge iPod 5G ???

    Hi!
I got my new iPod 5G. Now I'd like to use the old iPod mini power adapter. It got a Firewire connection. Does it work? Or do I destroy my new iPod???
    Thanks a lot!

The power adapters can be used with any iPod or iPod Nano, they aren't model specific. A 5th Generation iPod can be charged by Firewire, it just can't use a Firewire cable to update. Updating of any iPod after the 4th Generation or the Mini can only be done via USB.

  • Using ipod mini power adapter for nano?

I just got an ipod nano and I have a few questions:
I noticed that it doesn't come with a charger (or power adapter?...not sure what it's called) which I thought was unhandy for traveling because then I can only charge it through a computer and I won't always have one around. I had an ipod mini before which did come with a charger. Can I charge the nano with my old ipod mini charger?
And also I was stupid and forgot the instalation CD for the nano at my sister's who lives really far away, so I was wondering do I need the CD or is the software that I have for ipod mini ok too?

    Hi Hol,
You can use any iPod charger. See charging FAQ's:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=61127
For the software, you definitely want the Nano software. You can download the Updater from Apple which covers all models.
    Good luck,

Can anyone tell me the dimensions of the Mac Mini Power Adapter Brick? I'm trying to communicate with an architect for Mac Mini placement locations and need to know how big the brick is... Can't locate the info anywhere.

One also has to take into account the power in and out cables of course.

  • Is it possible to use old Apple Flat Panel Display (62 watt power adapter) with MacBookPro 13" Mid-2012 running 10.8.4? Tried mini display to VGA cable

Is it possible to use old Apple Flat Panel Display (62 watt power adapter) with a MacBookPro 13" Mid-2012 laptop?  Would like to use larger screen when working at home.  I have a mini display port to VGA cable and have tried to hook up the old display but it seems not to work.  When I try to activate the screen on the old display-- a window comes up in the MacBookPro and asks me if I want to shut down the computer.  What little I have read it that the MacBookPro had Thunderbolt and the old display may not be compatible?  Any assistance would be appreciated.

    11.09.12 22:16:06,148 ClamXavSentry[286]: I will quarantine infected files
This doesn't have anything to do with your problem, but it will likely cause other issues with your e-mail.
Here's my standard recommendation concerting the use of A-V software to deal with potentially infected messages:
Never use ClamXav (or any other A-V software) to move (quarantine) or delete e-mail. It will corrupt the mailbox index which could cause loss of other e-mail and other issues with functions such as searching. It may also leave the original e-mail on your ISP's e-mail server and will be re-downloaded to your hard drive the next time you check for new mail.
So, if you choose to "Scan e-mail content for malware and phishing" in the General Preferences, make sure you do not elect to either Quarantine or Delete infected files.
When possibly infected e-mail files are found:
Right-click/Control-click on either the infection or file name in the ClamXav window.
Select "Reveal In Finder" from the pop-up menu.
When the window opens, double-click on the file to open the message in your e-mail client application.
Read the message and if you agree that it is junk/spam/phishing then use the e-mail client's delete button to delete it (this is especially important when the word "Heuristics" appears in the infection name).
If you disagree and choose to retain the message, return to ClamXav and choose "Exclude From Future Scans" from the pop-up menu.
If this is a g-mail account and those messages continue to show up after you have deleted them in the above manner, you may need to log in to webmail using your browser, go to the "All Mail" folder, find the message(s) and use the delete button there to permanently delete them from the server.
To fix the corrupted mailbox index(es), highlight each one that was corrupted and choose Rebuild from the appropriate menu.

  • IPod mini can't see firewire power adapter after 1.4.1 update

I updated my mini to the (infamous) 1.4.1 update, and now my firewire connection doesn't appear to work. When plugged into the computer with the firewire cable, mini doesn't appear on desktop or in iTunes, though it will start recharging the battery. When firewire power adapter is plugged into dock or into mini to try to recharge, it doesn't work. I purchased a new firewire cable & adapter but it's behaving the same way. USB cable to computer works fine (mini shows up on desktop and in iTunes). I've tried the Reset, Retry Restart, Reinstall, Restore. protocol several times with no success. I've tried Resetting the mini while plugged into the firewire power adapter. No luck.
    Any suggestions?
Is there a way to uninstall this update?
    g5   Mac OS X (10.4.4)

Thanks Chris - I did this, and am now running the earlier version of the software, but my iPod still can't see my power adapter. Any ideas about this?

  • Voltage of new Mac Mini (2009) Power Adapter

I want to take my new my new Mac Mini overseas, but when I received it I was surprised to see the power adapter rated at 100v-120v only. The tech specs on Apple's website list the line voltage as 100v-240v and I assumed the power adapter would follow suit. Both my iMac and the power adapter for my macbook are dual voltage.
Can anyone confirm that the new adapter is rated only up to 120v? Apple Support seemed as miffed by the discrepancy as I was. Additionally, Apple does not seem to have a special dual-voltage power adapter for sale. I would like to be able to plug the mini into a 220v grid, but will not do so unless I can find a definitive answer to the question above.
    Thanks.

Thanks for the information, but I think we are talking about slightly different things. The watts are equal to volts * amps. I believe the power brick ensures that the mini is powered by 110W, but the the brick itself has to be appropriately rated for the local voltage or else it will not function correctly.
For instance, if my mini power brick is truly rated for 100v-120v and I plug it into a 240v outlet, then I would expect to hear a pop and smell some burnt electronics. It might spare the mini, but the adapter could fry. I speak from experience--I was careless with a treadmill in the past.
I believe that you mean you use 240v power and your adapter works fine. Could you do me a favor? Could you look at the small print on your mini adapter and see if it says 100v-240v or something else? If it says 100v-120v and it still works in the UK, then mine might be ok for 240v as well.
    Thanks again.

  • TS2634 Can my iPad mini use the same 12 watt power adapter that the iPad uses?

The small one-inch square power adapter that came with the iPad mini no longer works. A Best Buy employee told me I should be using the larger 12 watt adapter that comes with the iPad. I don't want to damage my mini by using the wrong one. Help?

Absolutely no problem.  The device will draw only as much energy as it can safely absorb.  The 12W rating for the charger is maximum available power.
I've been using a 12W charger with my iPod for about a year now.

Thanks Anamusic!  Since my other Apple products have the square adapters (iPhone, iPad, macbook) it seemed strange only to have a plug cord for mini.  don't want to fry it over here in Europe.
You only will need a new Duckhead US-Plug-Type C (2 pin Europlug) for your MagSafe power adaptor. See picture below.
All Apple MagSafe adaptors are mulitivoltage devices and support AC 100V to 240V
All Mac's with build in power supply (like iMac) have also multivoltage units.
Mac Mini uses (depending on production year) different power units, Mac Mini 2011 have a internal power supply, but ALL are "multivoltage".
So you just have to change the cord or use a adaptor.
The above adaptor is suitable for use with Apple's laptop power adapters, and some other products e.g. some iPod, iPhone, iPad adapters. It will however not fit the Mac mini of any generation.
Also, only the MacBook, MacBook Pro, and MacBook Air have the Mag Safe connector which is at the laptop end of the cable. The picture you posted is for the wall socket end of the cable. Older Mac mini computers use a proprietary connector, the 2010 and 2011 models use a standard IEC C7 connector.

You won't need a plug adapter if you buy a figure-of-eight mains lead (like most portable radios etc) with a UK plugtop to replace the original lead.
